nolsen._. Anyone else getting segmentation fault crashes from plasma shell?00:34
nolsenI don't even have a taskbar right now.00:34
nolsenand running plasmashell doesn't even bring it back properly.00:35
nolsenWindows 10 taskbar in a nutshell basically.00:35
valorienolsen: not for a year or so -- what version of kubuntu are you running?00:38
nolsenvalorie: 15..1000:39
nolsen15.1000:39
valoriehmmm00:39
valorieare you up-to-date?00:39
nolsenYes.00:39
nolsenUnless the update checker is being lazy00:39
valoriemost strange00:39
nolsenI checked apt-get upgrade myself, it's up to date.00:40
valorieyou can always do `sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade`00:40
valorieI have backports too however00:40
valorieand have plasmashell 5.4.300:41
nolsen5.4.200:41
nolsenYou have cutting edge?00:41
nolsenerm, development.00:42
nolsenOr is 5.4.3 stable?00:42
valorienot really, that's been out for a couple of months I think00:42
valoriemy travel notebook I have on 16.04 already, for testing00:43
valorieso far, so good00:43
valorieyes, I've had no crashes for months00:43
nolsenIs it any better than 15.10?00:43
valoriewell, in 15.10 I was running neon, so back then I really was bleeding edge00:43
valorieoops, got my versions mixed00:44
valoriein 15.04 I was doing that00:44
valorieI don't recall, but I almost always update to the latest, especially bugfix ones00:45
nolsenlatest qt version is 5.4.2 right?00:46
nolsenkinfocenter just segfaulted xD00:46
nolsenvalorie: https://paste.kde.org/pehp3uubv/acov8m/raw00:50

ubottuPackage qt does not exist in wily00:51
valoriepish, what is the package called00:51
valorienolsen: I'm not a coder00:51
valoriejust a tester00:51
nolsenvalorie: What backports you're using?01:01
nolsenGoing to update plasmashell to 5.501:01
nolsenor something newer than mine.01:03
valorienolsen: we don't have 5.5 done yet01:04
valorie5.5.2 is nearly done, but 5.5.3 is released Tuesday01:04
valorieso we'll see01:04
valoriebetween holidays and deaths in devel families, we've gotten a bit behind01:05

nolsenreborn: It's pretty stable in my opinion.03:18
nolsenI'm even running the latest kernel version and no crashes.03:18
nolsenand using backports seemed to make the segfaults go away so far.03:18
nolsenActually, I'm one version behind on the kernel. 4.4.0-040400rc7-generic is what I'm currently using.03:21

X9nLinux9Can Kubuntu be used on a newer Mac as a start up system from a USB drive?  Anybody know how to configure that if so?08:56

X9nLinux9Anybody running Kubuntu on a Mac here?09:13
mediahey09:19
valorieX9nLinux9: I think what works is finding one of the images for mac, and then installing kubuntu-desktop on top of that09:26
valorie!mac09:26
ubottuFor help on installing and using Ubuntu on a Mac, see: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MactelSupportTeam/CommunityHelpPages09:26
valorieubottu, always so helpful09:27
ubottuvalorie: I am only a bot, please don't think I'm intelligent :)09:27
valorieX9nLinux9: such as ubuntu-mate: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-mate/releases/wily/release/09:31
lordievaderGood morning.09:35
valorieX9nLinux9: I also found http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-mac-osx09:38
valorieeh, better than my first advice is to just get the server and add kubuntu-desktop: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/wily/release/09:40
X9nLinux9Valorie, are you starting up on Kubuntu?10:16
valorieX9nLinux9: ? I'm not sure what you mean10:19
valorieI've been using kubuntu for around 8 years I guess10:19
valoriebut never on a mac10:19
X9nLinux9What I mean is... at one time I could start up with Linux on a Mac.  I tried to startup with Kubuntu on a new Mac recently and cannot get it to do so10:20
X9nLinux9even used a DVD that had it on and would run it from the DVD... but it won't install in a way that allows me to use it as the start up system directly from a USB drive10:21
valoriedid you read my replies above?10:23
valoriestart by installing the image made for mac for server10:23
valorieand then install kubuntu-desktop10:23
valorieand you'll have kubuntu, essentially10:24
X9nLinux9I have it on a working DVD.10:24
valoriewe no longer spin Kubuntu-mac ISO images10:24
valoriewe don't have the people or the time10:24
X9nLinux9What I'm looking for is to have it as a working Startup system10:24
valorieand I just told you how to do that10:25
valorieget the server and add kubuntu-desktop: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/wily/release/10:25
X9nLinux9Why would a DVD work as a startup and then not work when moved to a USB drive?10:26
X9nLinux9I'll give that a try.10:27
valoriewell, it's always good to verify the image10:27
valorie!md510:27
ubottuTo verify your Ubuntu ISO image (or other files for which an MD5 checksum is provided), see http://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM or http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/answers/LQ_ISO/Checking_the_md5sum_in_Windows10:27
X9nLinux9Ok.  Will try that.  Thanks10:28
valoriethis is why I always torrent the ISOs -- ktorrent at least verifies before finishing10:28
valorieso I know all my ISOs (I seed all the *buntus) are A-OK10:28
valoriemoving to a USB might have left out some vital bits at the beginning or so10:29
X9nLinux9Thanks for the info Valorie10:34
mparilloI believe zsync verfies the ISO also; very good if you are frequently using the daily builds.10:35
valoriebest of luck, X9nLinux910:35
valoriemparillo: I have to keep re-learning how to use zsync10:35
lordievadervalorie: Isn't checking inherit to the torrenting protocol, since chunks can arrive out of order.10:56
rom1504that's not the reason why you check11:28
rom1504the torrent contains the hashes, you check peers send you the correct pieces11:29

m_tadeuhi...I'm having trouble connecting to the vpn using kubuntu 15.10....I can't access anything inside the vpn, dispite it connects  without errors12:26
rom1504m_tadeu: when you ask a question, you have to provide *context*, "the vpn" assumes a context nobody here but you knows about12:27
m_tadeuI'm using openconnect to reach my comapny's network12:30
m_tadeuso I created a vpn connection in nwtwork manager to do so12:30
BluesKajHi folks12:33
rom1504m_tadeu: what does route -n says ?12:34
lordievaderm_tadeu: Is that ipsec, openvpn? Or is openconnect something else altogether?12:34
rom1504ah yeah I read openvpn12:36
m_tadeulordievader: openconnect is the opensource couterpart of cisco anyconnect....don't know the specifics of it12:40

ntzhello BluesKaj13:23
ntznever ever experienced this behaviour elswhere13:23
lordievaderntz: What version of Kubuntu are you running?13:27
ntz14.04.3, up-to-date13:28
BluesKajntz:  you haven't attempted to install plasma 5 I hope ?13:33
ntzafaik no, problem is, that it's the workstation of my boss - he asked me if I can fix it so generally said, I didn't install anything there13:36
ntzI fixed 10 other issues but only this one - kde related - still persists13:37
ntzpersonally I am using kde since 2.x and never experienced this behaviour13:37
lordievaderntz: Does system settings -> autostart (not sure where that was) list it four times?13:38
ntzno, that's weird ... as well as it is placed there once and does it like that for both application and script13:38
ntzeg I want to run existing "foo" app there .... it starts it 4 times both ways - from script and as an app13:39
BluesKajntz, dunno if you read about this bugfix ppa that was advertized back in november, check to see if it applies to your issue, https://bugs.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa14:01
