Camilo_Hi!00:08
ozbrkhi00:09
knomehello00:09
Camilo_Guys I was wondering if you could give me a hand. I was trying to install Xubuntu 14.04 in a new laptop with a new SSD and I couldn't make it boot. I went into the bios options of the notebook and it has this option called "select an uefi file as trusted for executing" and it allowed me to browse a folder with three options "ubuntu shimx64.efi grubx64.efi or mokmanager.efi"00:11
Camilo_Does anybody know what it means?00:11
Camilo_I eventually made it boot, after I chose "grubx64.efi" but I don't know if I'll have a problem in the future because of that00:12
Camilo_nobody? :(00:21

nenis43I was told Ubuntu MATE uses less resources.04:47
nenis43What do you think?04:47
Network2501i think it doesn't matter04:49
nenis43Why doesn't it matter?04:49
nenis43Less resources means I can pay less for hardware for the same experience.04:50
Network2501did the person who told you MATE uses less resources say how much less04:52
Network2501and how does that relate to the hardware you need04:52
nenis43No.04:52
nenis43I asked him what benefits there were to Ubuntu MATE over Xubuntu.04:52
Network2501i don't have an answer for you but it's a question worth asking04:53
Unit193Oh for goodness sake, try Ubuntu MATE and Xubuntu, decide which you like better and just use it.04:53
nenis43he said it used less resources, was being developed more, and was more polished.04:53
Network2501cool04:53
nenis43Unit193, It sounds like you wished you used Ubuntu MATE.04:53
nenis43So why don't you?04:53
Unit193If that's how you interpret it, that's not my problem.  But going to a channel and asking which is the best isn't really useful, as what's best for you doesn't have to be what's best for me.04:54
Unit193There's a reason you can try it live, I'd take advantage of it.04:55
nenis43It sounds like you're mad that you've invested in Xubuntu instead of MATE.04:55
Network2501i still don't think it matters04:56
Unit193That's entirely ignoring what I said, download both, and try them.04:56
Unit193Or heck, take a coin and flip it, use whichever is heads.04:56
Network2501nenis43: the reason i don't think it matters is because it's doing what i need, the difference of 8MB of ram used is nothing when i have GBs of ram04:56
Unit193Network2501: Or more accuratly, Chrome or Firefox will eat half your memory if you're using MATE or Xfce. :P04:57
Network2501yeah, sadly this is true04:57
Network2501what does the OS usage matter when your browser is hogging all your cpu/ram04:57
Unit193browser, office suite, etc.04:58
Network2501nenis43: i chose xubuntu because i liked xfce, it's ubuntu for the most part right so meh04:58
Network2501if gns3 had a lot of support for freebsd i'd be using that05:00
hack_Can someone please help me?  I posted a little earlier that I'm having trouble with my audio and video drivers cooperating over hdmi, a little help with this please?05:16
hack_I'm about to toss this dang monitor out the window if I don't find some way to prevent the screen from blacking out for half a second every time and app opens an audio feed05:17

grcd-xubHi there all :) Who should I PM for support with xubuntu installation (grub + boot repair issues)?11:16

grcd-xubThank you. My problem is that I canot get grub to work after installing. The system acts as if no OS is installed at all.11:21
bazhanggrcd-xub, did you read the links I just gave you11:21
grcd-xubhttp://paste.ubuntu.com/14409879/ is the pastebin from boot-repair so you can get an idea.11:21
grcd-xubI am running a single OS (only Xubuntu) on a single hard drive, from a laptop which does not allow me any room for changes in the BIOS ( I cannot change anything except boot order from there)11:23

ricksebak"sudo pm-hibernate" works as expected, so i know the concept of hibernation works on this hardware. but when i look in Xfce power manager, hibernate mode is ghosted. how do i enable hibernation via the power manager?23:09
