[00:08] Hi! [00:09] hi [00:09] hello [00:11] Guys I was wondering if you could give me a hand. I was trying to install Xubuntu 14.04 in a new laptop with a new SSD and I couldn't make it boot. I went into the bios options of the notebook and it has this option called "select an uefi file as trusted for executing" and it allowed me to browse a folder with three options "ubuntu shimx64.efi grubx64.efi or mokmanager.efi" [00:11] Does anybody know what it means? [00:12] I eventually made it boot, after I chose "grubx64.efi" but I don't know if I'll have a problem in the future because of that [00:21] nobody? :( === Unit193 is now known as Hypnotoad [00:26] Ok guys, no worries then. I'll try to look up the issue :) === Hypnotoad is now known as Unit193 [02:03] hey [04:47] I was told Ubuntu MATE uses less resources. [04:47] What do you think? [04:49] i think it doesn't matter [04:49] Why doesn't it matter? [04:50] Less resources means I can pay less for hardware for the same experience. [04:52] did the person who told you MATE uses less resources say how much less [04:52] and how does that relate to the hardware you need [04:52] No. [04:52] I asked him what benefits there were to Ubuntu MATE over Xubuntu. [04:53] i don't have an answer for you but it's a question worth asking [04:53] Oh for goodness sake, try Ubuntu MATE and Xubuntu, decide which you like better and just use it. [04:53] he said it used less resources, was being developed more, and was more polished. [04:53] cool [04:53] Unit193, It sounds like you wished you used Ubuntu MATE. [04:53] So why don't you? [04:54] If that's how you interpret it, that's not my problem. But going to a channel and asking which is the best isn't really useful, as what's best for you doesn't have to be what's best for me. [04:55] There's a reason you can try it live, I'd take advantage of it. [04:55] It sounds like you're mad that you've invested in Xubuntu instead of MATE. [04:56] i still don't think it matters [04:56] That's entirely ignoring what I said, download both, and try them. [04:56] Or heck, take a coin and flip it, use whichever is heads. [04:56] nenis43: the reason i don't think it matters is because it's doing what i need, the difference of 8MB of ram used is nothing when i have GBs of ram [04:57] Network2501: Or more accuratly, Chrome or Firefox will eat half your memory if you're using MATE or Xfce. :P [04:57] yeah, sadly this is true [04:57] what does the OS usage matter when your browser is hogging all your cpu/ram [04:58] browser, office suite, etc. [04:58] nenis43: i chose xubuntu because i liked xfce, it's ubuntu for the most part right so meh [05:00] if gns3 had a lot of support for freebsd i'd be using that [05:16] Can someone please help me? I posted a little earlier that I'm having trouble with my audio and video drivers cooperating over hdmi, a little help with this please? [05:17] I'm about to toss this dang monitor out the window if I don't find some way to prevent the screen from blacking out for half a second every time and app opens an audio feed === dreamon_ is now known as dreamon [05:19] especially since I make significant use of applications like skype and tox that regularly do this kind of thing [05:22] Hellooooo? === Guest62646 is now known as IdleOne [11:16] Hi there all :) Who should I PM for support with xubuntu installation (grub + boot repair issues)?
