[18:43] I've been informed that some people don't mind meeting up locally, but don't want their mug shared all over the internet [18:44] right now to sign up for ubucon you need: meetup.com account, join Ubuntu California, upload photo, sign up for event [18:47] doesn't look like there's a way to just go to an event without joining the team, which is ashame for something like ubucon [18:47] That's not a good thing. Glad you mentioned that [18:47] means people flying in for the event have to sign up for our loco meetup group [18:48] Daniel got around the photo requirement by uploading a blank image :) [18:48] I'd rather not make people do that [19:16] Psuedonyms allow for a verified pic, like a cartoon character [19:17] There are some folks that cant/dont want it to be known they attend [19:17] Antoehr project Im in allows an admin to bypass known names thing [19:19] Just trying to help, Fedora found we had to drop the requirement of known names. We have an admin check it in some cases. Tho we do have a process for someone wanting to stay anon [19:19] Like say a maker/hacker type that has a govt job. They want to keep those spearate [19:20] we don't have a real name requirement [19:20] And of course, women (or atleast non men) are less liekly to participate if identity is a "thing" [19:20] I don't want to make people upload cartoon pictures if they don't want to put up a picture [19:20] it's a simple checkbox, don't require photos :) [19:20] Of course, just more saying that it should fit the Distros goal [19:20] +1 [19:20] Yep [19:21] The real name thing makes sense for others, but that would be silly for Ubuntu [19:21] a member of the Ubuntu Community Council in their last term never used their real name, it was an interesting experiment [19:21] and it worked [19:21] Safety takes many forms [19:21] indeed [19:22] ANd with doing things like that [19:22] It makes it easier when there is a need [19:22] Way cool to know. [19:23] * MarkDude loves seeing how Linux is maturing in so many ways. We have far to go. But, we are hittting point of trying things, to see hwat works. Instead of debating if we shoudl try things [19:23] Yay Penguin Family [20:35] Berkeley Linux Users Group, in progress at Bobby G's http://berkeleylug.com/meetings/ [23:14] yeah I don't like the photo thing [23:27] I see more ways someone could make an argument that making people show there faces can get kind of questionable on the code of conduct. [23:37] yeah the ubuntu community should be much more welcoming than dwarves making people take of masks [23:37] althuogh too mcuh detail could be spoilers
