[01:07] need help theming xubuntu [01:08] RoadRunner, theming what precisely; window borders, greeters or what [01:08] !themes [01:08] To change your theme in Xubuntu, go to Settings Manager -> Appearance (tabs Style, Icons) and/or Settings Manager -> Window Manager (tab Style). Starting with Xubuntu 13.10, you can control some of your theme colors from Settings Manager -> Theme Configuration. [01:09] was modifying desktop's panel, removed a separator to the left of "notification area" - clock and stuff moved to the left; after that reintroduction of a new separator doesn't fix the problem: [01:09] https://imgur.com/UbHv1oR [01:12] Ie: I want the clock, indicator plugin and notification area on the far right of the pannel [01:16] bazhang: ubottu: are you guys clear about what I mean? [01:23] 2nd problem: can't seem to add a new theme to my Appearance styles; downloaded this theme http://xfce-look.org/content/show.php/Divinorum?content=65705 but droping it into the style list (ziped or unziped) doesn't add it to the list [01:34] anybody? [01:57] there were two places for themes iirc [01:57] one was a theme theme and one was a window theme [01:58] i had issues getting the B5 theme working how i expected [01:59] Network2501: are you talking about theming your irc client? I am talking about theming xubuntu os look itself [02:00] essentially, I want a high contrast white on black look [02:01] yeah i'm talking about xubuntu [02:01] there's different sections for theme [02:01] i had to go into a window section iirc and select b5 (beos like theme) [02:02] but the theme I picked doesn't seem to install and I don't know where to find info on how to create a theme of my own... [02:03] sorry, I am not following, where is "window section iirc"? [02:05] lemme rdp into my box [02:08] hmmm i might have killed something... [02:09] oh yeah i edited the vncserver config [02:11] help says you can just drag and drop a new theme into Appearance styles; is that not the case? [02:11] settings > window manager > style [theme] [02:12] and also... appearance [02:12] xfce-b5 <3 [02:13] that's where I've gone but it didn't work; so is it a problem with the theme I picked or with the process? [02:13] i'm not sure you see.. i downloaded a new package and it had the theme but i never added a single new theme [02:13] I am running 14.04 [02:13] i know there was a v2 and a v3 of the themes [02:14] gtk2.0 or gtk3.0 maybe... [02:14] yeah gtk2 and gtk3 were the things but i thought both were usable regardless... [02:15] have you tried logging out and back in or powercycle to see if the theme is detected afterwards? [02:16] powercycling didn't help [02:17] ok, let's assume that my pick on xfce-look.org was unlucky, is there a theme pack that comes with/for Xubuntu and how do I donload it? [02:18] sudo apt-get install xfce4-goodies libxfce4ui-utils xfce4-utils xfce4 [02:18] that's how i got my sweet sweet b5 theme [02:19] https://wiki.xfce.org/howto/install_new_themes [02:19] so you can't get/see them through ubuntu software center? [02:20] the themes or those packages? I'm sure you can view those packages if you looked for xfce [02:21] ok, I'll read about it there, thanks [02:22] can offer a suggestion on my first problem? [02:22] *can you [02:22] make a new one or shuffle [02:23] i haven't really changed much in xubuntu [02:24] I tried to make a new panel - I am not seeing how to do a right align there and if you look at my screen shot https://imgur.com/UbHv1oR, you'll see there are no elements to the right of the clock so there is nothing to shuffle it with [02:27] mmm dunno sorry [02:31] btw, if you install something with apt-get, how can you check in what parts of the file system stuff got installed? [02:32] do you mean where it was installed? [02:32] yes [02:36] i generally just grep and find stuff [02:36] i think /etc/ and /usr/ are pretty common install locations [02:40] so your gut feeling is that there was just something wrong with the theme I got from xfce-look.org? [02:40] could be [02:40] assuming you followed the install steps [02:41] they couldn't be easier, unzip, drag and drop [02:41] actually I don't even think is said to unzip the tar first... [02:41] reading that link i shared it also requires a file of some such [02:42] so if that's not there it wouldn't be detected [02:42] i'd also be comparing your files with existing themes [02:43] in the packages you've seen, do you recall a nice white on black theme or two? [02:52] anyhow, thank's for your help [03:02] there was actually === skribblezatcha is now known as pencilandpaper [07:48] Does xubuntu 32bit install EFI by default, or is it running legacy/BIOS boot?
