valoriejimtendo: Ubuntu packages Qt, rather than us05:19
valoriehowever sometimes we put newer versions of Qt in a PPA because Plasma for instance runs better with a newer Qt than ubuntu supplies05:20
valoriethat won't happen for 15.10 which goes eol in ~6 months05:20
valorieour work now is focussed on getting the LTS ready for April (16.04)05:21
valorieQt 6 is a question mark right now05:21
androclushey, all.. i just upgraded to Kubuntu 15.10 (fresh install).. but now no sound (I did have it before on KXStudio distro) ..05:31
androcluscan anyone help me?05:31
androclusi've tried removing/purging alsa-base and pulseaudio packages05:32

valoriecontrols pulseaudio, if that's where something is muted05:44
androclushmm... interesting.. running pacmd results in "No PulseAudio daemon running, or not running as session daemon."05:45

valorieandroclus: `apt-cache policy pulseaudio` from the commandline please05:48
valoriedon't paste in the result, just -- is it installed?05:48
valorieandroclus: in alsamixer, M means muted05:49
valorieyou use your arrow keys to move about05:50

androclusyeah.. agreed. but that is why i am sort of surprised it doesn't.. this (Kubuntu 15.10) is the third ubuntu i've had installed on this laptop, but the first one that sound didn't work on.. hmmm...06:01

androclusjust wondering.. is there anything under my HOME dir, that could be confusing pulse or also, from a previous distro?06:06

Gary-007Hey16:11
dark-readerHi16:37
dark-readerI've a problem: after the boot I can see the loading bar of KDE but after all I see is a black screen with the cursor16:37
dark-readerIf you kindly could help me...16:38
dark-readerWhen I type in the command line "startkde" the error I get is "$Display is not set or cannot connect to the X server"16:38
BluesKajdark-reader, type startx16:42
dark-readerThe result is black screen and working cursor16:43
dark-readerBluesKaj now after the reboot, the window of a program appeared. It's a program set to start automatically16:46
BluesKajdark-reader, the window of a program? at what point in the boot sequence16:49
dark-readerAfter the loading bar of kubuntu16:49
dark-readerBluesKaj, but the desktop is still black, no clock bar... And I can't run the terminal16:50
BluesKajdark-reader, ctl+alt +F1, login then do, sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade16:50
Smurphydark-reader: Anything you did before that happened ? Eventuallally you want to check on the console if all updates are loaded16:53
dark-readerBluesKaj, thank you. I'm trying. I'll let you know16:53
SmurphyAh - ok, BluesKaj was faster :D16:53

dark-readerBluesKaj i get some errors and I'm not able to update && upgrade16:56
Smurphydark-reader: Which reader did you use ?16:58
BluesKajdark-reader, is this a clean install or release-upgrade via the internet?16:59

dark-readerBluesKaj, Intel integrated GPU17:09
BluesKajdark-reader, sudo apt install xserver-xorg-video-intel17:13
SmurphyBluesKaj: If it was working before, that should not be the issue.17:14
genii"cannot connect to X server" makes it sound as if X isn't even there17:15
BluesKajI assumed this was a recent installation, not just broken due to using the wrong pdf reader17:15
dark-readerBluesKaj Smurphy, I don't know if it can help but the Alt + Tab command shows the lateral bar with the open windows17:16
rattkinganything interesting in ~/.xsession-errors ?17:16
dark-readerBluesKaj, it's not a recent installation, I've been using it since November.17:16
Smurphydark-reader: What you can also do, is on the console, just start X -> X17:18
SmurphyIf the X-Server configuration works, it will at least show you the X Screen.17:18
SmurphyIf not, check out the /var/log/Xorg.0.log file - the content should tell you if it is a X or a Plasma/KDE problem.17:18
Smurphydark-reader: Ah - try starting the plasma desktop again -> can you still do a: Alt-F2 ?17:19
SmurphyAlternative is, go down to the console again: Alt-F1, and: DISPLAY=:0 kstart plasma-desktop17:20
SmurphyShould restart it.17:20
dark-readerSmurphy, I checked the log, not even an error17:20
Smurphyok, go down to the Console with Alt-F1, and start plasma-desktop manually again.17:21
Smurphythe DISPLAY=:0 is the Display env.17:21
Smurphytelling kstart where to actually display/.start the plasma desktop on.17:21
dark-readerSmurphy, I get "kstart: cannot connect to X server"17:22
Smurphythat's bullshit. You running on X or Wayland ?17:23

Smurphytry DISPLAY=:0.0 instead17:23
dark-readerSmurphy, now the error is "kstart(3044) main: Omitting both --window and --windowclass argument is not recommended17:25
Smurphyah, ok so the Display variable is :0.017:25

Smurphydark-reader: You got ethernet on that device ?17:57
dark-readerSmurphy, I've just finished the sudo apt upgrade. Nothing changed17:57

After I enter user credentials the bar finished also fast but at the end I have to wait 20-30sec and it seems nothing happen. I reinstall the system and I also have this on to different machines. Normally with other xubuntu systems they boot quite fast17:59
kais3nI'm not shure where I can start to search, a hint would be grate17:59
dark-readerSmurphy, now when typing "startkde" in the terminal i get "Kde seems to be already running on this display". So i guess it's a plasma-related problem, doesn't it?18:03
Smurphydark-reader: Alt-F7 - check it out18:10
dark-readerSmurphy, same situation: I can open windows but no clock bar, no widgets, no desktop, nk working shortcuts...18:12
