evalHello.07:52
evalI'm trying to use preseed with the 16.04 alpha netboot image, but it doesn't seem to work. I'm pressing TAB at the install menu and then typing "auto url=http://some.url/my-preseed.cfg", but it still asks me about the language and keyboard config (which previous versions didn't) and even after that, it does not load the specified preseed file.07:52
evalI'm trying to figure out if this is caused by something that has changed in how preseed files work, or if this functionality is just not implemented yet in the alpha image.07:53
evalBTW, the image that I am using, is this one: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/xenial/main/installer-amd64/20101020ubuntu410/images/netboot/mini.iso07:56
evalIf anybody has any idea/tip on the above issue, please write it in the channel. I will check the online logs the next couple of days. Thanks a lot!09:18
lordievaderGood morning.09:41
alkisgHi, firefox insists that adobe flash needs to be updated, and blocks it by default. But I've dist-upgraded11:28
alkisgShouldn't firefox not complain when I have the latest flash available from the repositories? Or is it a glitch only because it's a development release?11:28
damascenealkisg, I've the same error in 15.0411:30
damasceneI do not think it's right to permit usage of vulnerable version of Flash just because the fix is not yet in the repositories11:32
alkisghttps://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/flash-player/apsb16-01.html - Release date: December 28, 201511:39
alkisgMaybe the developer that maintains adobe-flashplugin at canonical needs a ping?11:39
alkisgIts version is 1:20151208.1-0ubuntu1 though... it sounds like it's already up to date11:40
alkisgYup, /me continues this in #ubuntu-devel...11:41
alkisgIt's probably a packaging issue, they've included the wrong/older flash version11:48
tewardi should point out that the Adobe version in question is in the proposed state in the partner repository and hasn't landed in the 'released' state, if LP's page is right11:49
tewardhttps://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/adobe-flashplugin11:49
tewardalkisg: ^11:50
tewardso it's in the partner-proposed pocket and not yet in standard partner repos (explains why unavailable probably)11:50
* alkisg enabled the partner-proposed repository and everything is good again, thank you guys...11:57

k1l_yeah, thats a kde specific issue. please file a bug as the error message says13:49
lordievaderOr confirm one, if it exists ;)13:49
z4sk4k1l_: where i should post this bug?13:51
k1l_!bug | z4sk413:52
ubottuz4sk4: If you find a bug in Ubuntu or any of its derivatives, please file a bug using the command « ubuntu-bug <package> » - See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs for other ways to report bugs.13:52
z4sk4Where i should post it? here? https://bugs.kde.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Kubuntu%20Debug%20Installer&format=guided14:00
z4sk4in thelist isn't ubiquity14:00
k1l_z4sk4: use the ubuntu-bug command. that will report it on launchpad.net14:03
z4sk4k1l_: sure? i use it, but not sure what i send it...14:05
z4sk4well i add the bug here too : https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35816414:10
ubottuKDE bug 358164 in general "Installed Crashed in the third step when in click Continue (prepare) kde_ui.py ubi-prepare.py" [Grave,Unconfirmed]14:10
lordievaderz4sk4: Better report it on launchpad, I think Ubuntu is the only distro to use Ubiquity.14:13
z4sk4lordievader: but only fails on Kubuntu...14:13
lordievaderYeah, since it is in a kde specific thing. Point is I think the Kubuntu dev-team maintains it, not KDE.14:14
k1l_yes. kde will not touch ubuntu related stuff. thats why i said report it on lauchpad14:15
z4sk4oh! sorry14:16
z4sk4its true14:16

ubottuLaunchpad bug 1535323 in ubiquity (Ubuntu) "Installer Crashed in the third step when in click Continue (prepare) kde_ui.py ubi-prepare.py" [Undecided,New]14:23
z4sk4guys i have a question important to me: When i get the kubuntu installed, Its secure use upgrade until estable?? or is better download again the iso estable? i need to know to install or not install my tools. Thanks14:30
lordievaderUpgrading gets you in the same place, doesn't matter both work ;)14:48
dcunit3dhow do i go about troubleshooting something like this?  what logs do i look at?  when i start the computer, i see the nvidia logo, then one login screen,16:46
dcunit3dthen it looks like it crashes, the screen goes .  then i see another login screen. i login and there's no window manager.  i can get to a terminal, but it16:46
dcunit3ddoesn't have any borders. i can open chrome thru the terminal.  i've tried reinstalling nvidia and16:46
dcunit3dlightdm.  i actually want to try unity, but i want ubuntu without the amazon and search stuff.16:46
dcunit3di've looked in /var/crashes but couldn't find anything that seemed relevant there16:47
Daekdroomdcunit3d, so you're trying Unity8 with the proprietary nvidia drivers?16:47
dcunit3dyes, i think so.  i need the proprietary drivers bc i'm going to be working with CUDA16:48
DaekdroomIf your concern are the Unity online searches, they can be disabled.16:49
DaekdroomAnd I don't think the proprietary Nvidia drivers support Mir, which is required for Unity8, but I'm trying to confirm that.16:49
dcunit3dnvidia seemed to install fine on ubuntu 15.10 on the same hardware16:50
dcunit3dah ok16:50
DaekdroomUbuntu 15.10 uses Unity7 and X.org16:50
DaekdroomI found this but it seems slightly outdated (Dec 2013): https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Mir/GPUTesting16:55
Daekdroom"no proprietary driver support (dependent on 3rd parties)"16:55
dcunit3dcool, thanks Daekdroom. i'm just going to downgrade again.  kind of a bummer, since i spent some time configuring things, but i have my /home on a separate partition, so not really that big of a deal16:56
