KingEdgarSo, I have an HP Pavillion g6 1211SS, and t he speaker audio, even when I max out speakers, master, and PCM is too low04:49
KingEdgarheadphones and hdmi out sound perfect though04:49
KingEdgari tried disabling pulseaudio to see if that was a culprit and adding myself to the audio group, then of course re-enabling and removing myself from audio when i discovered that did nothing :v04:51

dunasdanI have kubuntu-ppa/backports in my wily. I updated today. plasma 5.5.3 was in it. Afterwards sddm only showed a blank screen. In the logs was "sdd-helper exited with 6" and there was a message about Qt Platform not finding xcb in the log. But sadly I no longer have the log, (Since i did a ppa-purge and reboot afterwards)07:40
soeedunasdan: strange, i did an upgrade and all works fine here07:45
soeedunasdan: are you running propriety gpu driver maybe ?07:46
soeedunasdan: also what if you run: sudo apt-get install --reinstall sddm07:48
dunasdani have intel graphics07:50
dunasdanBut my /usr/share/sddm/scripts/Xsession prompted a diff. I don't think i have cahnged it manually by myself but I have zsh installed. The following was the diff07:50
dunasdanhttp://pastebin.com/qW0R6EME07:51
dunasdansadly I can't run your command right now since I need the system for work now ;-). but i will try it again in the evening07:52
soeeok :-)07:52
dunasdani did do an aptitude safe-upgrade first. there where 6 packages left. Then I did an apt-get dist-upgrade. Then I rebooted.07:55
lordievaderGood morning.07:57
valoriebest to use apt now, rather than apt-get08:00
valorieso `sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade`08:01
valorieworth getting used to, imo08:01
OerHeksvalorie, one can use both, except apt autoremove does not work, it needs apt-get.08:01
dunasdanNever heart of apt command before but i will try to use it then. It even has colors so it must be better ;-)08:04
valorieOerHeks: you are correct08:05
valoriebut I've found apt better, where it works08:06
valoriecolors!08:06
valorieand full-upgrade is better and less confusing that dist-upgrade08:06
SmurphyHmmm. Interesting. latest ppa of KDE don't resolve dependencies completely;. Something is still broken.08:25
soee?08:26
Smurphysoee: http://pastebin.com/DRNLMqSf that ...08:27
soeehmm, strange08:29
Smurphyremoved kde-style-qt5-curve already.08:30
ChronotossHey guys .. I just got the new updates, and it's causing artifacting on my main screen, it's flickering blocks through the top of the monitor. Any ideas were to look to fix this? It does go away after a minutes.08:31
hateballWhat new updates are these?08:32
hateballChronotoss: You can see what packages have changed by "cat /var/log/apt/history"08:32
hateballWere there changes to your video driver for instance?08:33
SmurphyChronotoss could be that you need to clear your cache -> .cache/plasma*08:33
ChronotossUmm ... Not sure, it updates KInfo and some other things. I didn't see anything change my video drivers.08:33
ChronotossSmurphy: Just delete the cache folder?08:34
Smurphyhateball: Could you check this ? -> http://pastebin.com/DRNLMqSf08:34
hateballSmurphy: Hmmm?08:34
hateballI don't use PPA, so08:34
SmurphyChronotoss: yep, and the cache files starting with plasma.08:36
SmurphyBest is you logout, go down to a console and delete it. If not, it will be written back from memory.08:36
ChronotossOkay! yea and it took out my ability to move and X out of programs. brb!08:36
SmurphyUpgrading my system. Let08:38
Smurphys see what breaks :D08:39
SmurphyUpgrading to plasma 5.508:39
ChronotossAlright I'm back. Am I going to have to clear the cache everytime a change is made to any graphics portion of the system?08:43
hateballNormally no08:44
valorieI've never cleared the cache08:46
valorieit's rarely necessary08:46
ChronotossOdd I'm looking at my systemlog and it looks like i got an error in X ... says :  XIO:  fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server ":0"08:48
SmurphyChronotos: What was to be expected. That's why you should have moved to a console first -> Alt-F108:48
SmurphyChronotoss: No. You will have to clear the cache everytime major changes in the plasma libraries take place.08:48
valorie?08:49
ChronotossSmurphy : Oh-kay,I'll just try that first from now on XD08:49
Smurphy:}08:50
valorieSmurphy: I never have08:50
Smurphyvalorie: Depends. Do you upgrade your systems, or do you make clean installs ?08:50
valorieusually upgrade08:50
SmurphyI upgraded my system from Kubuntu 10.x to 15.x so far :)08:50
valorieoccasional fresh installs08:50
SmurphyWell, it helped me from 15.04 to 15.10 and plasma 5.08:50
valorieI use laptops and the laptops eventually die for one reason or another08:51
SmurphyI have to restart my Desktop. Just upgraded to plasma 5.5. brb ...08:51
Smurphy:}08:51
valorieusually a broken hinge or so08:51
ChronotossHopefully at some point I'll be helpfull for someone else.08:53
ChronotossAlright, looks like I have to do some Icon resizing and everything will be back to normal! Thank you all I hope you all have a good night!08:56
nicolsvalorie: i had to clear cache when upgrading to 5.5.3 ... i had some smaller problems with some icons not displaying correctly. after clearing cache it was OK :)08:57
valoriecool08:58
valorieI probably should do it more often08:58
bdcompHi! Just updated my Kubuntu 15.10 64bit via the Kubuntu Backports PPA to 5.5.3 (old xsessions file choosen). After reboot, all the screen full with horisontal lines, although everything seems to work. ~/.cache cleared - same result. Here my .xsession-errors http://pastebin.com/a4jdykNK Please advise09:02
SmurphyAs I faired, the sddm won't start the plasma session anymore.09:05
SmurphyWhat to do ...09:05
SmurphyCould someone check this out for me ? I have no browser to check -> As I'm on the CLI.09:06
SmurphyHow can I prevent sddm from starting over when I tell it to stop, so I can start my X session manually ?09:06
Smurphystop sddm will just restart sddm09:07
Smurphyfound it. Using service actually does it.09:07
bdcompvalorie: Any suggestion?09:08
valoriebdcomp: as I said before, please do `sudo dpkg configure -a` in a konsole or a terminal (control + alt + f2)09:09
bdcompTrying now09:09
valorieif you use a terminal, it's control + alt + f7 to come back to the gui09:09
valorieor try other f-keys if that doesn't work for you09:10
valorieand this time, use a new xsession09:10
Smurphyvalorie: doesn't work here.09:10
valorieSmurphy: what doesn't?09:10
Smurphysudo dpkg configure -a09:11
SmurphyNeed an action option it tells me.09:11
valorieI'm sorry, sudo dpkg --configure -a09:11
valoriesheesh09:11
SmurphyI however remember, that the system has change some stuff, specific NVidia files -> in the Xsetup etc.09:11
Smurphycame back empty.09:12
valorieok, there is nothing to configure09:12
SmurphyChecking to revert the Xsetup stuff, if I remember what it was.09:12
soeeSmurphy: you ar eusing nvidia driver ?09:12
soeedpkg-reconfigure -a09:13
SmurphyNo. That's the point. Plain intel.09:13
SmurphyBut X won't start up since las upgrade09:13
valoriegads09:13
valorieI need to clear my brain-cache09:13
valoriethanks, soee09:13
Smurphy:}09:14
bdcompsoee: valorie: So I need the reconfigure or configure command?09:15
soeeSmurphy: after sddm upgrade ?09:18
valoriebdcomp: perhaps try `sudo apt-get install -f` (f is for fix) to see if you have broken packages, first09:18
valoriesometimes it is necessary to do that more than once09:19
SmurphySo - X works, tried: "xinit /usr/bin/xterm -- :1" and it starts a session.09:19
valoriethen you can do the sudo dpkg --configure -a to see if any configuration remains to do09:19
SmurphyI rather suspect that it is the kwallet missing, that is failing.09:19
Smurphysooe: yes09:20
valorieapt install -f also works09:20
soeeSmurphy: yes there were changes in kwallet pam etc.09:20
SmurphyYes, I noticed. Only pam-kwallet5 and pam-kwallet4 won't work together. Just force pam-kwallet4 to be installed next to it.09:22
Smurphyso - X is actually up, sddm is up too, but won't display a thing. What can I check ?09:23
SmurphyWrong output ? How can I check which output is being used .09:23
soeeyou see only black screen? no cursor etc?09:24
solvarrThe system tray trashes everytime I make changes to it?09:24
solvarrDoes anyone else have problems with their system tray applet?09:25
valorieI hope you folks are filing bugs!09:25
soeesolvarr: trashes? What Kubntu version / Plasma version ?09:25
valorieI had very few problems09:25
SmurphyNo - I see the remnants of the boot up (system styl stuff: App started [OK] etc.09:25
solvarrkubuntu 15.10 with kde 5.4.309:25
Smurphyvalorie: I can't file bugs. No X ...09:25
Smurphy:} 15.10, plasma 5.5.3 I think09:25
solvarractually when I make changes to the system tray the whole plasma crashes09:26
soeesolvarr: did you upgraded to 5.5.3 today ?09:26
solvarrnope09:26
solvarris it out today?09:26
soeeit landed in backports as users report :)09:26
soeeand if you said you are on 5.4.3, than you probably have backports enabled09:27
Smurphyso, a startx won't work. How can I force a failsafe session ?09:27
solvarrwhat does that mean if i have backports enabled?09:27
Smurphysoee: yes.09:27
valorieSmurphy: `ubuntu-bug packagename` in the terminal09:27
soeesolvarr: kubuntu backports ppa09:27
solvarryeah i do have that09:28
Smurphyvalorie: Ok. That's nice. But how do I know which package is failing ?09:28
solvarris it unstable?09:28
SmurphyI'll send it in for sddm09:28
valorieSmurphy: file against SDDM09:28
Smurphydoing it right now.09:28
valorieexcellent09:28
SmurphyThe problem cannot be reported. This is not an official ubuntu package ;D09:29
Smurphy*lol*09:29
soeesolvarr: backports contain something that can't go through standard system updates. it contain for example newer Plasma version09:29
valorieum09:30
solvarris it tested enough that it wouldn't be too much trouble for daily use?09:30

Smurphywell, I for instance can't start any X based session.09:31
soeevalorie: we backported sddm, 0.1309:31
valorieSmurphy: can you install lightdm for instance, and purge sddm?09:31
SmurphyIt would remove a whole bunch of data though. I can to that.09:32
valorienot ideal though09:32
valoriebut geez09:32

yofelinstalling lightdm will default to installing the GTK greeter :/09:34
valorieI didn't remember that09:34
solvarri thought sddm is default in kubuntu?09:34
Smurphylightdm starts, but I have no way to use a plasma/kde session with it.09:34

solvarrso do you suggest i switch to lightdm or stay with sddm?09:35
Smurphyyofel: empty. Emptied it before. It does not find the default session it want to start.09:36
SmurphyI'll purge lightdm, and try to install sddm from scratch.09:36

soeeyofel: are we able to fix it, so it will be installed ?09:48
yofelsoee: that's easy enough09:48
SmurphySo - I can't get into a session. it tells me, can't change permission /dev/null in .xsession-errors.09:50
yofelis the file owned by root in any case? (wild guess)09:50
Smurphy/dev/null ? yes - always. Device file.09:51

Smurphyinside that file, that's what I see.09:52
SmurphyI deleted that file now completely. Let's see what it says :D09:52
yofeloh, I misunderstood what you said ^^09:53
Smurphyit creates the .xsession-errors file, and puts this into it:09:53
Smurphychmod: changing permissions of ■/dev/null■: Operation not permitted09:53
Smurphyand that's where the sddm desktop hangs.09:53
SmurphyI had deleted all .cache/plasma* before BTW.09:54
yofel... wtf?09:54
SmurphyHmmm. I have kwalletd/kwallet5 several times in the system etc. I think I'll reboot that box for a clean start.09:54

SmurphyIndeed. There is aERRFILE pointing to /dev/null. Replaced it with .Xsession-errors10:01
Smurphyniiice. It is re-creating the cache content... Abeit slowly10:02
SmurphyLook and feel has change ... I like it.10:02
SmurphyHmmm. Fonts are way smoother now, and UI is way smoother too (Movements etc.).10:03

bdcompyofel: locate xsession /etc/upstart-xsessions /etc/X11/Xsession.d/40x11-common_xsessionrc /home/boaz/.xsession-errors /home/boaz/.xsession-errors.old /usr/share/xsessions /usr/share/app-install/desktop/lxsession-default-apps:lxsession-default-apps.desktop /usr/share/upstart/sessions/xsession-init.conf /usr/share/xsessions/kodi.desktop /usr/share/xsessions/plasma.desktop /usr/share/xsessions/xbmc.desktop10:49
bdcompyofel: it's pretty strange - if exiting the current session by Ctrl-Alt-Backspace and choosing the same user - everything great. In fact, now I am working this way. sudo apt-get install -f and sudo dpkg --configure -a done, without any results or errors. How should I fix the current state permanently, so next boot it will not show the horisontal lines.10:49
yofelbdcomp: I think you meant the one in /usr/share/sddm/scripts/10:50
yofelno idea, someone said that removing ~/.cache helped, so maybe your cache just got re-generated..10:50
bdcompyofel: Should I try to backup the Xsession file in /usr/share/sddm/scripts/ and rename the Xsession.dpkg-dist to Xsession?10:56
yofelwell, you can try. But the change shouldn't really do much..10:57
bdcompSo why the auto login is to screen with horisontal lines, while Ctrl-Alt-Backspace and choosing the same user - everything great? It's not relevant to Xsession?11:01

Guite_hi all15:55
Guite_Upgraded five machines with Wily to Plasma 5.5.315:55
Guite_four work fine, but one notebook seems to have graphics broken15:55
Guite_changed from OpenGL 2.0 to 3.1 in compositor settings but this didn't make a difference15:55
Guite_after booting the machine graphics are totally broken (like if there would be a hardware issue)15:56
Guite_after somehow getting some kind of plasma restart done (e.g. by closing the notebook and opening it again) suddenly it works15:57

MaxirideI'm still testing the backports-landing stuff. I've just noticed today that if the screen is locked AND it's turned off by power management settings. When I turn on the screen (hitting a keyboard button\moving the mouse) the screen turns on as expected but I'm not prompted with the login screen.16:42
MaxirideFor few seconds (usually no more than 10s) I see my desktop\open apps etc, luckly I'm not able to interact with them but they are visibile.. kinda of a privacy\secuirty issue.16:42
hateballI think mgraesslin said "wayland will fix that"16:44

dunasdanhttp://pastebin.com/qZJDMW9Z19:43
dunasdanCan something be done?19:44
geniidunasdan: The deb files for them will be in /var/cache/apt/archives  .. you can do: sudo dpkg -i --force-depends /var/cache/apt/archives/<calibre-deb-name-here>19:46
geniiThis will make it ignore the dependencies and install anyhow19:47
Unit193I'd check down the rabbit hole and see where that package came from.  Also,  apt list | grep installed,loc19:47
dunasdanwell i installed that package myself. I guess it got deinstalled during upgrade.19:49
dunasdanI don't have the calibre package in /var/cache/apt/archives. But apt aborted before even beinning to download on the dependency check or not?19:51
geniiUse apt-get download then, it will be in the dir where you run the command. Then you can do the sudo dpkg -i --force-depends  <deb-name>19:53
BigFredyhi all19:53
dunasdanthanks genii that did install it but it did not run afterwards. So I just went to the homepage and used the linux install script from there. Now it runs. Its just not the one provided in the official repos.19:59
geniidunasdan: When you do things like that, you should put apps from outside repositories in somewhere like /usr/local/bin or the individual's bin dir in /home/theirname/bin20:00
dunasdanWell since they provided a handy install one-liner. I just used that.20:02
acher88The calibre install script installs in /opt/calibre/ then symlinks the binaries to /usr/bin20:21
acher88has compiled in qt as well if I recall so should cop on system qt upgrade20:23
geniiShouldn't be trying to put symlinks there, especially if another binary of same name already exists20:23
acher88What it does on install: http://paste.ubuntu.com/14577482/20:25
