Clutchhello there, I get this error while trying to install an application: http://paste.ubuntu.com/14602632/  I am new to this, can you please help me?00:03
Clutcham I online?00:05
Clutchyes00:05
vilitalttiClutch: yes you are :P00:05
BackBroke12Make sure that `gem install sqlite3 -v '1.3.8'` succeeds before bundling.  Does this succeed or fail?00:05
ClutchBackBroke12, it looks like this: http://paste.ubuntu.com/14602671/00:07
BackBroke12You forgot a ' at the end00:08
Clutchsorry, a typing error there00:08
Clutchyes00:08
Clutchjust corrected00:08
mcphailClutch: as you've found, running non-standard package management software is an exercise in frustration. If you must persist, I suggest you install the "libsqlite3-dev" package which should provide the missing header file00:08
ClutchBackBroke12, now I have this: http://paste.ubuntu.com/14602691/00:09
Clutchmcphail, thank you for the hint! sure, doing it now00:09
BackBroke12Run as sudo, Your installing to the /var directory00:09

=== 7JTAAA711 is now known as foobarbecue
ClutchI mean this one: http://paste.ubuntu.com/14602632/00:11
BackBroke12Did you run `gem install sqlite3 -v '1.3.8'` as sudo or bundle install --without production00:12
Clutchhope it works after lib install00:12
Clutchyes, I ran it as sudo00:13
Clutchtried after libsqlite3-dev is installed, and bundle install is completed now!00:14
mcphailPlease don't run gem install as sudo unless (a) you really want to and (b) you really know what you are doing00:14
Clutchmcphail, BackBroke12 thank you very much!00:15
Clutchmcphail, thank you, I'll remember it, too!00:15

Clutchhello back! :) apparently this will not be easy..I have this problem now: http://paste.ubuntu.com/14602796/00:20
mcphailClutch: I think you'd be better finding a Ruby channel for this kind of thing00:21
_SLM_Hi. When I try to start Unrest, I get the error: ./Unrest: error while loading shared libraries: libSDL2-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory00:21
_SLM_I searched online first, but found no useful answer00:21
Clutchmcphail, if it's a ruby problem, sure..but I wonder if they can help with any ubuntu-related fix00:21
miteshhi All00:21
_SLM_So idea what a so.0 file is either00:21
BackBroke12mcphail ubottu Apologies I have never heard of popcorn. I just search youtube and posted the first link. I though it was just some useless media server.00:22
miteshi am looking for a DLNA manager (GUI) any pointers?00:22
_SLM_*No idea00:22
mcphailClutch: that isn't ubuntu-related at that point - you're deep into Ruby country there ;)00:22
miteshi have tried Rygel and minidlna00:22
mcphail_SLM_: have you tried installing SDL2 from the package manager?00:22
Clutchmcphail, I felt myself like that, too :)00:22
_SLM_mcphail I did that, now I got this error: ./Unrest: error while loading shared libraries: libSDL2_image-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory00:25
mcphail_SLM_: what error did you get before?00:25
_SLM_Before it was ./Unrest: error while loading shared libraries: libSDL2-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory00:26
mcphail_SLM_: oops - misread. Yes, install SDL2-image as well00:26
mcphail_SLM_: you might need SDL2-mixer and SDL2_ttf as well00:26
_SLM_yeah, mixer was next00:27
_SLM_maybe ttf will follow hehe00:27
mcphail_SLM_: this is a game you've downloaded from somewhere, I presume?00:27
k1l_doesnt that ship a depencies list?00:28
_SLM_The Humble Bundle website. first time user00:28
_SLM_I previously used GOG.com (which IMO is easier, but more expensive)00:28
mcphail_SLM_: check the install directory. There might be a list of dependencies supplied00:28
_SLM_I'll check00:29
_SLM_good suggestion00:29
_SLM_No list found. But I did see in /lib a hint and what deps will come next. Not a long list if those are all00:31

_SLM_Changed it, didn't make a difference01:12
_SLM_Changed to: Exec="/home/dennis/Games/Mark of the Ninja Special Edition/bin/ninja-bin64" -nocontroller01:12
mcphail_SLM_: definitely changed the right one? Didn't change it in the one which is hidden behind conky? What is output of "ls ~/Desktop/*.desktop"?01:13

_SLM_The icon is currently not hidden behind conky01:17
mcphail_SLM_: it sounds as if you're _almost_ there. Can I leave you to experiment/tweak the Exec line? (Paths with spaces always cause problems). I need to get to bed as I have work in a few hours01:18

themapplzso yeah the ubuntu server receives the http stream and, for now, i have an icecast server decode it to listen to it, but i actually need to redirect this audio into pyAudio12:11
bekksthemapplz: How about just answering my question?12:11
tomreynthemapplz: here's a different take on ths same: why do you need it in PyAudio, what is it going to do with it? maybe you could use a different application which is better suited for what you are trying to achieve (and have not yet discussed)12:13
themapplzwhat I want to do with my stream is use it in a python script using pyaudio12:13

tomreynVolkodav: for now, concentrate on removing packages which have no apt source available (apt-show-versions | grep -v uptodate). |TheWolf|Hi! Out of curiosity, I wanted to test the live kernel patching introduced in the new kernel, so I installed the 4.2.0-18 kernel from the trusty repositories, rebooted and then installed the linux-generic-lts-wily package. However, uname -a still says I'm on 4.2.0-18, not 4.2.0-25. Is there anything else I have to do to trigger the patching?16:28
k1l_baxx: ask the fedora guys if they know if and why their isos dont run in some virtualbox versions16:28
|TheWolf|It's a 14.04.3 server, btw16:28
tomreynjarnos: this depends on how you install chrome. i'd suggest you install chromium instead, though, since it's open source and an official ubuntu package.16:29
tomreynjarnos: ...which means it'll get security support, too.16:30
qwebirc42066My Linux is now updating thanks Rito.16:30
pc_magasHello Fellows back again16:31
pc_magasI changed the bios settings still no sound16:31
tomreyn|TheWolf|: i don't actually know how live kernel patching works in ubuntu, if it already works there. but i doubt it works the way you seem to expect it to work, i.e. i don't expect that installing a different kernel image will result in this being switched to during runtime.16:32
|TheWolf|tomreyn : yeah, I kinda thought it wouldn't be that easy, but I didn't find any info on how to do it, so I just tried it.16:32
pc_magasOn the front I have a hisser and on the back no sound. It just gives the output from the mic.16:32
tomreyn|TheWolf|: live kernel patching support in linux is just the kernel's side allowing some additional utility to apply (security, could be other, but that's the primary purpose) patches to the existing / running kernel image in memory.16:34
jarnos_tomreyn, unfortunately, I have some issues with chromium-browser generally and in 15.10 specifically: Some WWW-sites, such as http://www.katsomo.fi does not work by chromium-browser, at least, if Chrome is not installed. chromium-browser seems to start slowly in 15.10 and does not respond nicely to custom dpi setting (in Xubuntu's settings).16:34

MonkeyDustexcelsiora  there's also this ... https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4653463/Ubuntu%20Linux%20Toolbox.pdf18:05

They 'work' until they've been written beyond the true size. In these cases the firmware in them is deliberately (fraudulently) reporting incorrect sizes.21:31

yigalboxmein: what version of Ubuntu are you using?22:58
boxmein15.10 with unity and gnome files as the file manager :D22:59

OerHekssublime is paid software23:00
yigalOerHeks: however the ability to set a particular application to a given mimetype isn't23:01
OerHekshttp://askubuntu.com/questions/396938/how-do-i-make-sublime-text-3-the-default-text-editor23:02
OerHekspretty old issue :-( they must learn packaging.23:03
yigalboxmein: one issue is that there isn't a singular mimetype text/code so you'll need to set this for different extensions, e.g. C++, Python, Ruby or what ever type of coding you're doing23:03
boxmeinOerHeks: did that23:04
boxmeinOerHeks: no effect!23:04
boxmeinyigal: true... but I just globally replaced all defaults.list entries mentioning gedit with sublime_text23:04
boxmeinthe desktop file exists23:04
boxmeinso the open-with entry exists23:04
yigalboxmein: as stated earlier, what is the file extension are you testing on?23:05
OerHeksit will take effect after logout/login i guess23:05
yigalboxmein: not sure if I stated that earlier, but we should, what are you testing on?23:05
dcunit3dquick question. i'm running ubuntu 15.10 and kernel 4.2.0. can i just upgrade to kernel 4.4? that works, right?23:06
cappicardgood evening. anyone running openchange in ubuntu 15.10? every time I try connecting to openchange from openchangeclient or outlook, i keep getting storage backend initialization failure (followed by samba crashing).23:07
OerHeksdcunit3d, you *could* test it, with the mainline repo23:07
OerHeks!mainline23:07
ubottuThe kernel team supply continuous mainline kernel builds which can be useful for tracking down issues or testing recent changes in the Linux kernel. More information is available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds23:07
boxmeinyigal: picked a .c file now, used to test on an extensionless filename23:08
dcunit3dcool, thanks OerHeks23:08
yigalboxmein: what do you get when you issue, 'file --mime-type -b <file>.c' ?23:09
OerHekscappicard, you might want to reask in #ubuntu-server too23:10
HamRadioHey Guys....So I'm getting a new computer in a few days23:10
boxmeinyigal: text/x-c23:10
HamRadioAnd I can't decide whether to put Ubuntu 14.04 on it or 16.04 on it23:10
cappicardok, thanks.23:10
HamRadioIs anybody running 16.04? Is it stable?23:10
yigalboxmein: ok so that's the file type you want to associate with sublime 3.23:11
k1lHamRadio: 16.04 ist still alpha. so if you cant fix stuff on your own keep the hands away from that until april23:11
yigalboxmein: text/x-c23:11
boxmeinyigal: where is the pairing stored+23:11
HamRadioThanks k1l23:11
dcunit3di had some wierd issues with 16.04, but i think it was bc of Mir and Nvidia.  I tried to install the proprietary drivers23:11
yigalboxmein: per user it should be '~/.local/share/applications'23:11
HamRadioGuess I'll install 14.0423:11
k1ldcunit3d: that is not right. ubuntu 16.04 doesnt use MIR23:12
okovkoi'm having issues connecting to my router using the 5 GHz band23:12
cappicarddcunit3d, I've had some issues running mir too. nvidia drivers doesn't run for me either.23:12
okovkohow can i debug what's happening?23:12
yigalboxmein: excuse me '~/.local/share/applications/defaults.list'23:13
cappicardGTX-750-2C here.23:13
yigalboxmein: do a locate defaults.list and you can see what the defaults are currently set as, so in /etc/gnome/defaults.list23:14
OerHeks"Proprietary video drivers do not yet offer the required level of support for Mir, so your experience if you're using the binary block nVidia or AMD drivers will be somewhat disappointing."23:15
boxmeinyigal: ohh, there's another system-wide defaults list23:15
boxmeinyigal: changed that too. :P23:15
boxmeinactually I might grep all the system ones for sublime, change them back to gedit and make sublime only locally23:16
yigalboxmein: yes, there's unfortunately these types of complications, let us know if things are working properly23:16
boxmeinyigal: defaults are reloaded on relogin?23:16
OerHeksis sublimetext in your %path% ?23:16
yigalboxmein: they should be immediate, afaik23:16
boxmeinyigal: let me try relogging anyway, then, because right now text/plain which i clearly reassigned still opens with gedit23:18
dcunit3dk1l: it isn't? I thought Mir was one of the major changes to 16.04.  nevermind then.23:18
yigalboxmein: ok, I wish I knew each version it seems to change23:18
k1ldcunit3d: no. its still xorg and unity7 as standard desktop23:18
boxmeinyigal: relogging changed it!23:19
yigalboxmein: awesome!23:19
dcunit3dOerHeks: if i download a kernel build from the mainline, is there anyway to download the kernel config options for that build?23:19
boxmeinnow let me do the trick23:20
boxmeinyigal: there we are, now copied all the sublime text changes over to local config23:22
Agent_92The results are released for how many GCi tasks each org has completed.23:22
boxmeinwhat's especially freaky is that there's only 9 sublime_text lines23:22

dcunit3dahh ok, the kernel configs are in the mainline repo.  for v4.4, there's a patch that states the config changes for ubuntu23:23
yigalboxmein: sweet man, glad I could help, and glad I'm now up to date regarding Ubuntu/GNOME mimetype changes, well at least a bit :)23:23

noahmg123how can I find the remaining packages on an apt-get install? I ran it for a metapackage and it has been going on for a while now.23:38
SubCoolk- ill google them. thanks guys.23:38
yigalnoahmg123: what is the current state of the upgrade?23:38

noahmg123yigal: Ah. Unpacking packages23:39

yigalSubCool: I'd consider zsh as an interactive shell it's bar none the best23:40
yigalnoahmg123: can you provide some of the output so we can see the likely issue on the server23:40
yigalnoahmg123: http://paste.ubuntu.com/23:41
noahmg123yigal: what server?23:41
yigalnoahmg123: the one you're attempting to install the packages on23:41
m000gleIs there any way to force Ubuntu's Unity dash to refresh the applications list?23:41
noahmg123yigal: it's no server. There is no issue. I was jsut wondering if there is a way to see the packages that are yet to be unpacked.23:41
m000gleAfter installing any new piece of software, it seems like I'm forced to either log out/in, or perform a "unity --replace", to restart the entire desktop environment, before new applications are added to the list23:42
yigalnoahmg123: no, unfortunately APT locks out the database if a single session is using it23:42
noahmg123yigal: How does it usually install a meta-package? Randomly, or in a certain order chosen by the meta-package?23:43
yigalnoahmg123: it will do a dependency tree check23:43
tomreynm000gle: possibly update-menus, not sure23:43
yigalnoahmg123: so, one package depends on the other, and another depends on ....23:44
=== younes is now known as Guest81880
noahmg123yigal: hm... Yep. I guess I will just have to wait for it to finish.23:44
yigalnoahmg123: yikes, unfortunately I'm not certain I can give you any better advice23:45
noahmg123yigal: As I said, there is no issue, it is just taking a while.23:45
yigalnoahmg123: good :D23:45
tomreynnoahmg123: if the metapackage you are installing was ubuntu-desktop, you would run "apt-cache depends ubuntu-desktop" to see the dependencies23:46
tomreynthis can be done in parallel to the curren tinstallation23:46
noahmg123tomreyn: cool, will try on the meta-package. Will it list it in the list it should install?23:46
yigaltomreyn: that's not the question, the question is what order are the packages installed in, other than a dependency tree23:46
tomreynnoahmg123: sorry, i wouldn't know23:47
noahmg123tomreyn: that's ok. :)23:47
yigaltomreyn: yes, it's quite interesting23:47
kriskropdassuming `man` is using `less` as a pager - is there a way to pass a search argument to the `man` command? `man man` doesn't seem to imply it's a feature that's built in23:47
m000gletomreyn: I've just tried "update-menus" and "update-desktop-database", with no luck23:47
artoiskriskropd: /foo23:48
PhilippeVienneHello, how to make an autologin with xdm ?23:48
artoiskriskropd: whatis, apropos, you can grep man, too, if you use it right23:48
yigalkriskropd: or backwards search '?bar'23:48
artoisPhilippeVienne: only one user on the box?23:48
yigalartois: man -k23:48
artoisor forward /foo and then 'N'23:48
tomreynm000gle: okay, i'm afraid i have no better suggestions. i don't use unity myself.23:48
artoisyigal: it's kriskropd23:48
wahyuhow to hack wirelles wpa2-psk :P23:48
PhilippeVienneartois: Yes, but another user exist for sudo rights23:48
yigalartois: my apologies sir23:49
m000gletomreyn:  The reason why I want to avoid either the log out/in or "unity --replace" is that the former will close anything that I'm working on, while the latter seems to be about 50/50 whether Unity actually comes back to life afterwards23:49
kriskropdartois yigal I think you are talking about within the less pager already loading - for instance 'less -ippattern file'23:49
yigalkriskropd: man -k == apropros23:49
m000gletomreyn: Cool.  Thanks for your help23:49
yigalkriskropd: no, the last example certainly not23:49
yigalkriskropd: although that might not answer your question23:49
kriskropdit doesn't - apropos is something else, I think - just a short description of a manpage23:50
artoisyigal: just sayin'23:50
yigalkriskropd: no all man pages associated with the given word, e.g. 'apropos word'23:50
artoiskriskropd: you want to grep man?23:50
yigalkriskropd: if you want to grep just use, man <X> | grep <word>23:51
k1lwahyu: that is not in the focus of this channel23:51
kriskropdartois: well, when you use `less -ippattern file` - it loads the file in less automaticall and immediately reacts as if you had searched '/pattern' in the pager23:51
kriskropdim trying to do that with man23:51
artoiskriskropd: man foo | less -ippattern23:52
artoispipes, use'm23:52
kriskropdah, ok23:52
kriskropdyeah that works, ty23:52
kriskropddidn't think i could pipe man into less o.o23:52
yigalkriskropd: yes, do 'less | less' :)23:52
yigal== more, ok I'll stop23:53
tomreynkriskropd: a clerner way to do this would be: PAGER=cat man bash | grep ^BUGS23:54
tomreynor: PAGER='less -p^BUGS' man bash23:56
yigalor just man -P bash23:57
yigaloh that's just using cat, for the man, excuse me tomreyn23:57
tomreyn;)23:58
