buddhajukeAnyone using uzbl in lubuntu? I am trying to disable scrollbars but instructions call for gtk theming. That doesn't apply to lubuntu, correct?00:15
NOOBis anyone around01:36
NOOBI have a few quesdtions about ssh on linux01:36
NOOBthey prolly seem silly01:36
NOOBBut i am a recovering windows user01:36
NOOBand would like to learn the proper way to do a remore ssh session in linux01:37
NOOBremote01:37
ianorlinNOOB: are you talking about as a client and have a server ?01:47
NOOByep i am ianorlin01:47
ianorlinor setting up the server say between your laptop and the desktop01:47
ianorlinis the server already ssh setup or anything01:47
NOOBi am sshing into a dedicated01:47
NOOByes it is01:47
NOOBall works in putty01:47
NOOBbut you see01:47
NOOBI have a handy cap01:47
NOOBI learned all this in windows01:48
NOOBso its all wrong for dingin linux01:48
NOOBdoing*01:48
ianorlinah so you will have hopefully have server setup to use keys01:48
NOOBi am understanding i can add my key to my linux box01:48
ianorlinthen you need to use the ssh-keygen in a terminal can make you a key01:48
NOOBalready have01:48
ianorlinyes that is what you need to do01:48
NOOBits already all working and has for some time in windows01:49
ianorlinthat is really all there is too it01:49
NOOBand also all working in linux, kinda01:49
NOOBbut01:49
NOOBI have putty working01:49
ianorlinwhat can't copy the file from your linux partition?01:49
ianorlinoh there are rules on the permissons for your key01:49
NOOBbut i understand i can add the key to the ssh keyring01:49
NOOBnoppe01:49
NOOBbut also how do i get a remot file browser in linux01:50
NOOBand in windows there was pagent01:50
ianorlinpcmanfm the  defualt file manager can do this over gvfs  and sftp01:50
ianorlinand several others can01:50
NOOBok, how do?01:50
NOOBand what is linux pagent tool01:51
ianorlinyou need to add your key into the server01:51
NOOB?01:51
ianorlinand then in the file manager open a new tab and type sftp://yourseverhere.me/01:51
ianorlinit will ask for your key and you have remote file browsing in the defualt file manager01:51
NOOBhow add my keyfile to server?01:51
ianorlinwhich is awesome01:51
ianorlincopy it to the windows manchine and then transfer it01:52
NOOBwait01:52
NOOBnope i am not drunk01:52
ianorlinor upload to launchpad and then ssh in and run ssh-import-id in launchpad01:53
ianorlinbut you need an ssh for that01:53
NOOBlol i think i see.  let me try this01:53
ianorlinhaving someone externally being able to upload keys like that is horrible for security01:53
ianorlinwhich works on windows01:53
NOOB i have the key local on the machine01:53
ianorlinyes you need it on the machine you have access to put on your server01:54
NOOBum01:54
NOOBok so i am in pcmanFM01:54
NOOBand i am connection to server01:54
NOOBwhat is path?01:55
ianorlinthe path is the path to your server01:55
NOOBits an ip address01:55
ianorlinthat works as well01:55
NOOBin the host spot01:55
NOOBok so it id not ask for my key01:56
NOOBtry 201:56
ianorlinNOOB: did you add to keyring ?01:56
NOOBnope01:56
NOOBhow do01:56
ianorlinit is probably asking to use the key putty uses under the hood01:56
ianorlinI only learned ssh after switching to linux01:57
NOOBi understand that it should have but it didnt01:57
ianorlinok so did it offer to input a user password01:57
NOOBnope01:57
NOOBconnection refused01:57
NOOBcause i think server no allow non key login01:58
NOOBok so is "keyring" lie pagent on windows?01:59
ianorlinNOOB: The easy way to do this is to get the key on a machine you have access on01:59
NOOBlike*01:59
ianorlinI don't know what pagent is on windows01:59
NOOBit is there01:59
NOOBi have the key fille right here01:59
ianorlinthen on the windows machine transfer the file01:59
NOOBwait01:59
NOOBi already have putty working01:59
NOOBon the linux box02:00
ianorlinI don't use putty02:00
NOOBbut putty lets me cheat by just telling it where the key file is02:00
NOOBso how do i add the keyfile to this linux client02:00
NOOBso i can remote file manage in filemanager02:01
ianorlinMaking different keys for each machine is best practice unless say they were both desktop in your house02:01
NOOBI am on a linux laptop02:01
NOOBand i want to connect to my dedicated on the net02:02
NOOBit is already working in putty02:02
NOOBbut that is not the proper linux way02:02
NOOBI need to add, i think, my key to the 'keyring' whatever that is02:02
NOOBso it will know when to use that keyfile when i try and connect to my dedicated02:03
NOOBdoes that make sense02:03
ianorlinif say you left your laptop somewhere you can remove the key having accesss to ssh and not make a crisis by ending up removing the putty key as well02:05
NOOBi dont understand that02:05
NOOBoh02:06
NOOByou are saying make a second key02:06
NOOBoh i see02:06
NOOBone key per maching02:06
NOOBok that is great02:06
NOOBbut the machine will be lubuntu soon02:06
NOOBand i wll add a new key for it02:06
ianorlinwhich machine02:06
NOOBi have a wndows laptop and a linux laptop02:07
NOOBputty works for both of them02:07
NOOBok so let me stop and back up02:08
ianorlinyou can install putty in lubuntu if you really wanted to I think02:08
ianorlinbut you need to install it from net02:08
NOOBhow do i add this ssh key to this laptop so that ssh stuff works connection to my dedicated02:08
NOOBconnecting*02:08
ianorlinyou need to transfer to a machine that has access02:08
ianorlinand then transfer the key over02:09
ianorlinI should say the public key02:09
NOOBi am saying i already have the ey local to that machine02:09
NOOBto this machine02:09
ianorlinyou need it in ~/.ssh/authorized_keys if you are sshing into a user02:09
NOOBi have the key file here, it is just not installed02:10
ianorlinor add it to that with ssh-add02:10
ianorlinthanks for clarifying02:10
NOOBso i need to make a "authorized_keys" dir in .ssh ?02:13
NOOBok so my key is in wrong format02:17
NOOBlol02:17
NOOBok id added02:21
NOOBhow use it now ianorlin02:21
NOOBlol so easy02:24
NOOBLOLOLOL02:24
NOOBok so how do i get better permissions support02:25
NOOBso i san see the perms on the remote machine better02:26
NOOBthanks ianorlin02:39
LocutusOfBorghi folks, did anybody had a change to look at libsdl2 sync I did for xenial?10:43
alstownHello, I have an issue with my wired Internet connection, I'm not using a router and I'm using DHCP so all settings should be automatic. I just built a new computer and installed Windows 8.1. The internet worked fine and I ran all my updates and installed all the latest drivers. Then I installed Lubuntu 15.10 alongside windows. After installing Lubuntu the Auto ethernet would not connect in Ubuntu. In Windows I tried reinstalling the drivers, disabling the car11:19
alstownBecause I had this issue twice I ran ipconfig /all while the Internet worked in Windows, so I do have that output if it would help. I can also do it now while it's not working if that would help also11:20
alstownSorry I accidentally dc'd if someone said something since I posted a few seconds ago11:22
hateballalstown: that's an issue with windows not releasing the lease when you shutdown11:22
hateballwell it's more of an issue with how your ISP has their shit configured11:23
alstownokay11:23
alstownthanks, that's more of an answer than i've had so far :) at least i know, are there any workarounds?11:23
hateballalstown: you could try going in windows and doing "ipconfig /release" then boot linux and see if it plays nice11:24
hateballI am not sure networkmanager returns the lease by default either, so you might need to make something similar for going linux to windows11:24
hateballin the case of linux it is at least scriptable11:24
hateballanyhow, try it manually first11:24
alstownsorry, i'm a bit confused right now i'm on lubuntu and windows won't connect. so i would need to do the equivalent of "ipconfig /release" in linux? as a side note, i did try that while i could connect in windows and not ubuntu, but that did not help.11:27
alstownfor ubuntu i would need to run "sudo dhclient -r"?11:30
alstownand then "sudo dhclient"?11:30
alstowni'll try brb11:31
alstownhateball: i ran "sudo dhclient -r" in ubuntu but could not connect in windows, would manually inputting the network settings i'm assigned while in ubuntu into the network settings in windows allow me to connect there? i don't use windows much. i mainly use vm's in ubuntu, but when i do use windows i need the internet, so a manual solution like that is alright for me.11:43
alstownby "there" i mean in windows11:43
hateballalstown: well the problem is how your ISP handles dhcp requests. a painless solution would be to get a router11:46
hateballalstown: I'm not sure it'd work entering static, but you can of course try. The lease is set to your MAC so it should work I suppose11:47
hateballalstown: but then you'd need to re-do it should the leased IP change11:47
hateballalstown: I also don't see why your Windows VMs couldnt use the internet11:48
alstownhateball: they could, i only use them through ubuntu for work, i don't use vm's  in windows. I just use it to play some games :) every once in awhile so a one-off solution should be alright since i don't need to do it that much.11:49
hateballalstown: There's many native games these days you know. Also there is Wine11:50
hateballanyhow, you wont break anything by trying static network settings11:51
alstownhateball: to be specific it's just league of legends and the graphics through wine are not very good. I think this will be the last time i drop $100 on windows though.11:52
hateballalstown: I see11:52
hateballI game exlusively on native games myself11:53
hateballVoting with the wallet and all that11:53
alstownhateball: yea, thanks for your help anyways. i don't know much about networking and i suspected it was my isp and the dhcp but wasn't sure. i'm glad for the confirmation though.11:53
alstownhateball: league is free! ;)11:53
hateballalstown: it's terribly annoying when they do stupid shit like that, or only offer one lease per network port per 24H or some such11:53
hateballif your network card dies or you switch computer or whatever....11:53
hateballSo, I suggest you get a router :p11:54
hateballobviously you will have the same problem if the router dies... would need to spoof mac on your computer to be able to get internet11:54
hateballalstown: maybe communicating with your ISP could help as well, sometimes there are even competent people working in such places11:55
alstownhateball: i know, it is stupid lol, yea i think i'll have to. i really appreciate your help. right, well i haven't had to much issues with that and my lease is 8 hours. so not to bad11:55
alstownhateball: i'm in latvia and the language barrier is kind of a problem some times :)11:55
hateballalstown: I think we're doing just fine, no?11:56
alstownhateball: but i'm getting 100Mb/s for $15/month, well i'm not latvian and don't speak much latvian :p11:56
hateballoh!11:57
hateball:D11:57
alstownhateball: alright, well i'm going to try to do this manually and see if that'll work. ttyl!11:59
hateballalstown: good luck11:59
alstownhateball: thanks11:59
Guesthi16:05
GuestSomeoen talk here to day ?16:06
GuestCan i install lubuntu witout internet and not doenloading the files ?16:09
Guestdownloading16:09
damasceneGuest, suer, get the live image. but many things depends on internet these days like updates and installing new softwares16:10
GuestWifi dont working before i finnish the instalation.16:11
GuestWill lubuntu extras replace the missing files ?16:11
GuestOr where can i find them ?16:11
wxlyou don't need internet with the live cd installation16:11
GuestI am using a usb memory.16:12
Guestit shud be the same i think.16:12
wxlyep, just use the live cd and you're good16:13
GuestWhen i installing it use to download some files. What files will missing when i dont use internet ?16:13
=== leszek_ is now known as leszek
wxlGuest: updates. not necessary for the installation. when you get connected to the internet, they're easy to get with a regular update.16:14
GuestThe updates dont contains flash player.16:15
wxlwhat is your reason for beliving that, Guest ?16:16
wxlflashplugin-installer/downloader is available from precise to xenial16:16
GuestI saw it when i check the details. no flash player. i am not sure the updates will replace all stuff.16:17
GuestMaybe some codecs i dont know.16:17
wxlGuest: if you don't have it installed, you can install it later when you have internet16:17
wxl!flash | guestr16:17
ubottuguestr: To install Flash see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats/Flash - See also  !Restricted and !Gnash16:17
GuestYes. but install what ? the updates is only the ordernary i beleve.16:18
wxlGuest: see above link16:18
GuestI am not interesting in the complicated terminal.16:18
wxlGuest: apparently you didn't read the instructions because that response is not applicable16:19
GuestI understand.16:20
GuestI ask in the first place about the extras.16:20
GuestWill it replace all the missing files it not download when installing ?16:20
wxlas you'll notice extras is only relevant to (a) firefox and (b) i386 version16:20
GuestYou meen 32 bit.16:21
wxlGuest: you will get the version of ubuntu that existed at the time of release. when you are connected to the internet again and you update, you will get all the different updates that have happened since but you will not get any extra packages that aren't installed. that doesn't make sense16:21
wxlGuest: i386 = 32-bit16:21
GuestI dont know what more files or what ever it donloads when i install. Some propearity software, flash player.. but what more ?16:22
wxlGuest: flash is not installed by default16:24
damascenewxl, is it included with the default Linux mint?16:24
GuestSomething will missing when i install without internet. I dont only talk about flash player.16:24
wxlGuest: generally the way people deal with the problem of missing codecs on ALL OPERATING SYSTEMS is they try to access a resource without the codec and it tells them they need it, so they get it16:25
wxldamascene: this is not mint16:25
wxlGuest: then when you have internet you'll have to work to get every single codec and browser extension that could possibly exist?16:25
wxldamascene: because of license restrictions on this program's distribution, Ubuntu cannot include Flash automatically. on the other hand, mint is a freedom-hater. :)16:26
wxlGuest: what i can tell you is that in terms of audio/video codecs, if you get vlc, it can play anything you throw at it.16:27
damascenewxl, sure but I think that will answer his question as he wants codecs and all the extra directly after setup. I'm not trying to advertise any thing here16:27
wxlGuest: silverlight, in general, does not work in linux. microsoft deprecated it but there are still people using it on the internet for some odd reason16:27
wxldamascene: yes but there's no list of codecs and extensions out there. his/your guess is as good as mine16:28
GuestWhat is Lubuntu downloading when installing with internet ? That is what i need to install after.16:28
wxlGuest: generally, updates.16:28
GuestYou mean the updates fix all the missing files ?16:29
wxlGuest: let's say there is package a, b, and c. package a and b are installed by default. c is not. when you connect to the internet, it will update a and b. it will not install c. that makes no sense16:30
wxlGuest: what version do you have?16:30
GuestI dont ask for what make sense or not.16:31
Guest14.04.316:31
GuestI get some error messages.16:31
GuestBecause i installed without internet.16:31
GuestBut i think you tell me the updates fix everything.16:32
damasceneGuest, what is your next choice if yo find out that you will still have missing files if you download Lubuntu?16:32
wxlwell you didn't say that!16:32
wxlwhat are these error messages????16:32
GuestI install the updates very first.16:33
GuestAnd it also ask for some language downloads.16:33
GuestI dont remember the messages.  It was two when i start up. I think it is similar to the messages you get when you chnage to guest account. Maybe ignore them.16:34
wxlGuest: i don't think it's wise to assume your errors are unrelated16:35
GuestI think the same.16:35
GuestI beleve the updates and restricted extras will fix it all if i install without internet.16:36
wxlGuest: here's what you get installed http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/seeds/platform.trusty/desktop-common http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/seeds/platform.trusty/minimal http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/seeds16:36
GuestAs you try to tell me.16:37
wxloops last one should be http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/seeds/lubuntu.trusty/desktop16:37
GuestIt is to much to understand at the moment.16:38
GuestI dont understand all.. I just have to hope it will be ok without internet.16:42
GuestI dont understand why it will not connect when i installing.16:43

jilocasin0afternoon everyone18:40
jilocasin0quick question for anyone in the know....  Running lubuntu under 15.10 and have the 'panel' (large bar housing menus, taskbar, clock etc.) across the top of the screen.  If I'm not careful, I lose the title bar of my open windows _under_ the panel.  How do I make it so that I can't do that?18:42
krytarikjilocasin0: Is the option "Reserve space..." enabled in the panel's settings?19:08
jilocasin0krytarik: yes, Properties: Make window managers treat the panel as dock and Reserve space, and not covered by maximized windows but checked.19:11
krytarikjilocasin0: Multiple monitors perhaps?19:11
jilocasin0krytarik: yes, two, panel only acrosss main monitor.19:12
krytarikLP bug 1476791.19:12
ubottuLaunchpad bug 1476791 in lxpanel (Ubuntu) "lxpanel reserves space on wrong monitor in mutlimonitor setup with maximized windows." [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/147679119:12
jilocasin0it isn't even maximized windows.  Any window can have it's title slide up under the panel if you aren't very careful.19:13
krytarikSure.19:13
jilocasin0grab a random window, move it to the top, scrunch your face as you can't get it back (the title bar is _under_ the panel). :(19:13
jilocasin0most desktops won't let you do that.19:14
krytarikhttp://wiki.lxde.org/en/LXDE:Questions#A_window.27s_top_title_bar_is_under_the_panel_so_I_can.27t_reach_it.2C_but_I_would_like_to_move.2Fclose.2Fminimize.2Fetc_the_window.19:14
jilocasin0krytarik: good to hear there's a way (ALT) to get it back, bad to hear that it happens at all.19:32
jilocasin0well thanks for everything19:48
jilocasin0byt now19:48
NOOBhigh.  how do i update VLC to 2.2.1 in lxle.  can i just add a ppa?22:38
Unit193NOOB: LXLE is a deriv of Lubuntu, it isn't Lubuntu.  You have to seek support from their support methods (forums, #lxle, or whatever else they have.)22:39
Unit193And, as far as VLC, yeah it isn't in backports so no supported way to get it in 14.04, just PPAs.22:39
