pitti | Good morning | 06:44 |
larsu | good morning! | 08:21 |
pitti | it's a Lars! | 08:23 |
* pitti hugs larsu | 08:23
larsu | hi pitti! | 08:23 |
larsu | one more day and I'm flying to BRU \o/ | 08:24 |
pitti | larsu: one more day and I take the train! :-) | 08:25 |
ochosi | larsu: you goin to FOSDEM? | 08:25 |
pitti | larsu: I'll work in the train tomorrow morning and will then be in Leuven around 13:30, at a friend of mine | 08:25 |
larsu | pitti: yeah I was going to do that as well, but the timing was off | 08:25 |
pitti | it's only ~ 6 hours | 08:25 |
larsu | are you coming to the GNOME hackfest? | 08:26 |
larsu | or systemd? | 08:26 |
larsu | ochosi: yep. Are you coming as well? | 08:26 |
ochosi | larsu: yep :) | 08:26 |
larsu | cool :) | 08:27 |
ochosi | any places specifically where you'd hang out? | 08:28 |
ochosi | (in case one wanted to meet up for a meet'n'greet) | 08:28 |
larsu | ochosi: GNOME booth is the general meeting point for many of us | 08:29 |
larsu | just in that hall in front of it | 08:29 |
ochosi | larsu: sounds easy to spot. i'll try to stop by to say hi! | 08:31 |
larsu | please do! | 08:31 |
ochosi | on another note, i looked into the whole gtk3.18 linked buttons css yesterday (ambiance/radiance are also suffering from that still), it's really really exhausting to maintain themes in css | 08:32 |
ochosi | i know that for xubuntu i'll port our default theme to SASS for 3.20 | 08:32 |
ochosi | (probably not before that because of all the changes 3.20 will bring) | 08:32 |
ochosi | but in case i get anywhere on that i'll let you know | 08:33 |
larsu | yeah hopefully maintaining a theme gets much easier from 3.20 forward | 08:34 |
larsu | at least that was the idea | 08:34 |
larsu | it's a pain now | 08:34 |

alexarnaud | Good morning all ! | 08:39 |
larsu | morning alexarnaud! | 08:41 |
willcooke | what up dawgs | 08:56 |
Sweet5hark | willcooke: just the usual: everyone tries to make this an amazing day. | 08:58 |
Sweet5hark | ...or something | 08:58 |
willcooke | :D | 08:58 |
willcooke | That's the spirit! | 08:58 |
larsu | morning Sweet5hark and willcooke! | 08:59 |
willcooke | hey larsu | 08:59 |
larsu | Sweet5hark: it already is an amazing day! | 08:59 |
Sweet5hark | larsu: true dat. | 08:59 |

willcooke | hey, it wasn't dark when I got up this morning at least | 09:03 |
willcooke | so spring is on the way | 09:03 |
Laney | morning! | 09:04 |
alexarnaud | willcooke: all good today, I meet lots of interesting people :) | 09:04 |
willcooke | hey Laney alexarnaud | 09:04 |
alexarnaud | willcooke: and you how are you ? In which country do you live ? | 09:05 |
willcooke | alexarnaud, fine thanks. I'm in the UK | 09:06 |
alexarnaud | OK :) | 09:06 |
alexarnaud | willcooke: is alpha Ubuntu usable in a real world ? | 09:07 |
alexarnaud | I'm using Debian Sid everyday with relatively no problem. | 09:07 |
larsu | morning Laney! | 09:07 |
Laney | hi gangstas | 09:07 |
willcooke | alexarnaud, there was a problem with nouveau drivers yesterday, but yeah, should be totally usable. | 09:08 |
alexarnaud | Does Ubuntu provide alternative to Sid or it's necessar to change the repository after each release ? | 09:09 |
alexarnaud | willcooke: OK :), I will install it for testing on one of my computer | 09:10 |
pitti | alexarnaud: you can use "devel" as series name in apt sources | 09:10 |
pitti | ara: yes, a lot of us are using the devel series on a daily basis, and mostly it's outright boring | 09:10 |
pitti | alexarnaud: ^ | 09:10 |
pitti | ara: sorry, wrong ping | 09:10 |
pitti | ara: but hello! :-) | 09:11 |
pitti | alexarnaud: we occasionally run into upgrade failures due to file conflicts, but they are fixed easily enough | 09:11 |
Laney | hey pitti | 09:11 |
Laney | thanks for the uploader check! | 09:11 |
pitti | hey Laney, how are you? good morning | 09:11 |
pitti | Laney: yw! | 09:11 |
darkxst | hey pitti, Laney willcooke larsu | 09:12 |
pitti | Laney: that reminds me, I should remove the email addr and perhaps real name -- we don't need those at all | 09:12 |
pitti | hello darkxst! | 09:12 |
willcooke | hey darkxst | 09:12 |
larsu | "morning" darkxst! | 09:12 |
darkxst | larsu, its evening you know;) | 09:12 |
alexarnaud | hey pitti | 09:12 |
alexarnaud | pitti: thanks you | 09:13 |
larsu | darkxst: hence the quotes | 09:13 |
Laney | pitti: I'm good thanks, got climbing last night for the first time in G_TIME_SPAN_DAY * 6 - feels good! | 09:19 |
Laney | might go again tonight | 09:20 |
Laney | raaargh | 09:20 |
Laney | how are you? | 09:20 |
Laney | & hi darkxst | 09:20 |
Laney | how's upside down land? | 09:20 |
pitti | Laney: oh, how do your arms feel? :-) | 09:20 |
Laney | pitti: arms good, fingers still retain an echo | 09:21 |
darkxst | Laney, I'm good, its Australia day today | 09:21 |
darkxst | so I guess the upside land is doing well | 09:21 |
Laney | another year of holding on by your fingertips and not falling off | 09:22 |
Laney | I'd celebrate that | 09:22 |
darkxst | Laney, well actually did have 1 fall this year! but the gear held ;) | 09:25 |
andyrock | morning | 09:29 |
andyrock | willcooke: how can i try PackageKit? | 09:46 |
willcooke | morning andyrock | 09:47 |
willcooke | andyrock, Robert has a PPA I think, one sec | 09:47 |
willcooke | Laney, do you know where Robert's PPA with G-S in is by any chance | 09:52 |
willcooke | ?> | 09:52 |
Laney | willcooke: ubuntu-desktop/gnome-software ? | 09:53 |
willcooke | ahhh | 09:53 |
willcooke | I was looking in his personal PPAs | 09:53 |
willcooke | thanks Laney | 09:53 |
willcooke | andyrock, ^^ | 09:53 |
andyrock | 👍 | 09:53 |
andyrock | just fox xenial | 09:56 |
willcooke | yeah | 09:59 |
willcooke | ah | 09:59 |
willcooke | and your xenial box is b0rked :) | 09:59 |
willcooke | maybe next week ;) | 09:59 |
andyrock | willcooke: if we want to support the full animation we should use AddLauncherItemFromPosition call from gnome-software | 10:10 |
andyrock | otherwise we should drop part of the animation | 10:10 |
willcooke | andyrock, what's involved in doing that? hours/days/weeks/months? | 10:14 |
willcooke | andyrock, also - when you get a moment, could you comment on https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-lens-applications/+bug/1534485 | 10:15 |
ubot5 | Launchpad bug 1534485 in unity-lens-applications (Ubuntu) "Stop using Ubuntu Software Centre reviews database" [Medium,Triaged] | 10:15 |
willcooke | to say that we'll probably have to remove the reviews feature from the dash | 10:15 |
willcooke | and see if anyone has any opinions or other ideas (laney for example might care) | 10:16 |
andyrock | a day (or two) should be enough once I get xenial working here | 10:19 |
andyrock | I'm trying with i386 now | 10:19 |
andyrock | otherwise I'll just do that in a vbox | 10:19 |
willcooke | thanks andyrock | 10:19 |
Laney | don't really care | 10:25 |
Laney | but maybe robert's code is reusable, might be worth asking | 10:26 |
darkxst | anyone having issues with logitech HID (unifying) drivers? | 10:27 |
andyrock | if g-s supports plugins we might write one to read and export software-centre reviews | 10:28 |
Laney | it has one | 10:28 |
Laney | that's what robert_ancell has been working on lately | 10:28 |
Laney | but I don't know if it is usable by something else | 10:28 |
andyrock | oki I'll take a look later | 10:29 |
darkxst | both my mouse and keyboard are constantly dropping out the last few days ;( | 10:29 |

Laney | upgrade? | 11:30 |
didrocks | no… | 11:30 |
Laney | sad | 11:30 |
didrocks | even if they cancelled my second flight | 11:30 |
didrocks | so, now, I'm waiting for a trian | 11:30 |
didrocks | train* | 11:30 |
Laney | is it airfrance? | 11:30 |
didrocks | they were first proposing me another flight CDG -> Lyon tomorrow | 11:30 |
didrocks | (like 1h flight, 2 hours train, yeah, sure, let's wait another day) | 11:31 |
didrocks | so, the strike isn't AF | 11:31 |
Laney | hope you get a refund! | 11:31 |
didrocks | it's the space controllers | 11:31 |
didrocks | well, they did directly pay for the train | 11:31 |
Laney | hah, you strikers | 11:31 |
didrocks | and so the gouverment asked for companies to cut 20% of their flights | 11:31 |
didrocks | the bench is heated though | 11:34 |
didrocks | so, not all is lost :) | 11:34 |
Laney | niceeEee | 11:39 |
willcooke | hey didrocks! | 11:43 |
didrocks | hey willcooke! | 11:44 |
larsu | hi didrocks! | 11:44 |
willcooke | larsu, can you give me any pointers here: http://imgur.com/KhuZ4Bx | 11:44 |
didrocks | hey larsu ;) | 11:44 |
willcooke | larsu, I'm trying to add a border to the bottom of the tab | 11:44 |
willcooke | what you can see there is what I think is a transparency where the bottom border should be | 11:44 |
willcooke | it's almost like either the border is pushed off the bottom of the tab and so can't be seen, or something is forcing it to be transparent or otherwise hidden | 11:45 |
pitti | heeeey didrocks ! bon rentré ? | 11:45 |
willcooke | Also, super secret thing: we're swapping Ubuntu Orange for pink now. Don't tell anyone. | 11:45 |
pitti | didrocks: urgh, seems not quite, just reading scrollback .. | 11:46 |
pitti | Laney: worker spam> ugh, do I smell network failure in the DC again? :-/ | 11:47 |
larsu | willcooke: oh that is weird! | 11:47 |
didrocks | pitti: yeah, not yet, thanks to strikes, but well, could be worse, I have a train as a fallback | 11:47 |
willcooke | larsu, on the screen shot you can see the css I'm using | 11:48 |
pitti | didrocks: I read G+, seems you had a busy time! did you enjoy it? | 11:48 |
larsu | willcooke: I'm inclined to say this is a gtknotebook bug, but let me check | 11:48 |
didrocks | pitti: yeah, it was awesome, like old UDS time! :) | 11:48 |
pitti | cool! | 11:48 |
pitti | didrocks: I'm sure you really yearn for travelling again next weekend already :) | 11:49 |
pitti | xnox: speaking of which, did you see that there's a systemd hackfest on Friday? WDYT about another attempt of these "dynamic presets" to clean up /etc? | 11:49 |
willcooke | larsu, Adwatia is doing what I want to do, which is have the bottom of the tab in a different colour - but I looked at their CSS and it indeed a coloured border, but I just can;t seem to make it work | 11:49 |
larsu | willcooke: yeah seems like it. What exactly do you want to do? | 11:50 |
didrocks | pitti: yeah, and chaining with a sprint week in London :p | 11:50 |
larsu | willcooke: ah, ok. Do they maybe color the border of something else? | 11:50 |
willcooke | larsu, I want a slightly thicker, orange border at the bottom of the active tab | 11:50 |
willcooke | looking at their css it's simply border-bottom-color: #decafbad | 11:51 |
larsu | willcooke: indeed. Looking right now if maybe our border-image stuff breaks things | 11:58 |
willcooke | I turned off border-image with border-image: none | 12:00 |
willcooke | or at least, that's what I tried to do | 12:00 |
larsu | willcooke: looks like it's a bug in GeditTabLabel. It draws over ".notebook tab" | 12:03 |
larsu | willcooke: setting a bottom border for GeditTabLabel works for me, but spacing is off | 12:04 |
* larsu hopes all of this gets better with the 3.20 revamp | 12:04
willcooke | larsu, I just had a gedit crash, and when I started again, I too seem to have a border, but it looks like it's amost round the label rather than the tab | 12:04 |
larsu | willcooke: yeah I think putting it on the label is the only way right now | 12:05 |
larsu | at least I can't make it do anything else | 12:05 |
willcooke | ahh, kk | 12:05 |
larsu | because the label always overdraws the tab | 12:05 |
willcooke | so I might be able to move it a bit with padding etc | 12:05 |
willcooke | ? | 12:05 |
willcooke | ahhhh | 12:05 |
larsu | I hope?! | 12:07 |
willcooke | larsu, so if I do this: | 12:07 |
willcooke | .notebook {background-color: pink; border-style: solid; border-color: red; border-image: none; border-width: 1px} | 12:08 |
willcooke | I get borders around the tabs, all the way around | 12:08 |
willcooke | except the active tab | 12:08 |
willcooke | which shows no bottom border | 12:08 |
* willcooke checks the selector | 12:09
larsu | probably because there's a rule in the css already that removes borders for :active tabs? | 12:09 |
larsu | pseudoclasses have higher specificity | 12:09 |
larsu | so they overrule whatever you put in the inspectorr | 12:09 |
willcooke | ohh | 12:09 |
willcooke | I thought the inspector had the highest | 12:09 |
willcooke | also, what's a pseudo class? | 12:10 |
willcooke | how would I spot one | 12:10 |
willcooke | ? | 12:10 |
larsu | willcooke: tab:active, :hover, :checked, etc. are pseudo classes, .notebook a "normal" class | 12:10 |
willcooke | ahhh, I see | 12:12 |
willcooke | thanks larsu | 12:12 |
willcooke | I'll keep playing | 12:12 |
larsu | willcooke: this works (ish) for me: GeditTabLabel { border-bottom: 3px solid green; } | 12:13 |
larsu | .notebook tab { padding-bottom: 0; } | 12:13 |
larsu | but depends on Gedit sadly | 12:13 |
willcooke | nice one, thanks larsu | 12:14 |
willcooke | I think I can tweak that a little and it will do | 12:14 |
* larsu goes for a quick lunch | 12:14
larsu | willcooke: yw! | 12:14 |

hikiko | I'm very close to fix the last bugs on shadows. I changed the code to use the existing unity shadow windows and pixmaps instead of quads that had a texture with the shape and this has fixed all the artifacts I had due to the wrong window placement on unity (when I use unity windows compiz can draw them in order even when they are not but this doesn't apply to quads), the problem I have atm is a small bug on rendering: I have a quad with the | 15:49 |
hikiko | shadow texture which I can verify is correct in size, color and alpha because I can store its texture as png image on my disc (screenshot here: https://i.imgur.com/ZoSQqtR.png?1 the cairo.png) but it doesn't appear at all when I draw it on the unity window (black quad around the shaped window in the screenshot), I intend to fix that by tomorrow and do the MP. If I find some time @the future I;ll try to debug the unity windows ordering and | 15:49 |
hikiko | make a proper fix because we might need to add other features in the future. eof | 15:49 |

Laney | seb128: it's ok, just would have been good to know if something interesting happened | 16:20 |
seb128 | I'm going to try to think about it, would be good to a least tell that UbuCon was nice | 16:21 |
seb128 | but I guess others' posted about that on g+ at least already | 16:21 |
Laney | attente: doesn't seem secret to me | 16:32 |
attente | ok, i'll send it out to the list as well | 16:32 |
Laney | then you get on cool news sites! | 16:34 |
Laney | fsvo cool :P | 16:34 |
attente | lol | 16:35 |
xnox | pitti, hehe. nope did not see that. I do arrive on friday, i can gate crash i think. | 16:44 |
xnox | pitti, for the presets stuff.. in clearlinux i've ended up dropping all of them and just ship symlinks in /usr/lib to enable things by default in a "distro defaults package" | 16:45 |
Trevinho | Laney: hey | 16:48 |
Trevinho | Laney: how do I make dh to redo certain steps after that I already built everything? I mean, I built with debuild binary, but I changed something in debian/* and I wanted to redo the packaging part without rebuilding | 16:49 |
pitti | Trevinho: normally, dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc -b -nc | 16:50 |
Trevinho | I don't see stamps around anymore... Dh should do something smarter since the old days :-P | 16:50 |
pitti | Trevinho: the "-nc" means "no clean", that should keep all the built stuff | 16:50 |
pitti | Trevinho: possibly you have to call dh_prep to clean the debian/<binary> and debhelper leftovers | 16:50 |
Trevinho | it seems to work, thanks | 16:50 |
Trevinho | oh, actually no :-/ | 16:50 |
Trevinho | pitti: well... unfortunately it doesn't seem to do the thing.. :-( | 16:51 |
Laney | Trevinho: try removing debian/*.debhelper.log | 17:01 |
Trevinho | Laney: oh... thanks that works.... BUt it also wants to reconfigure/rebuild | 17:02 |
Laney | yes | 17:03 |
Trevinho | ...and fails :-( | 17:03 |
Laney | it's not really made for incremental building | 17:03 |
Trevinho | but well that's a cmake issue I guess | 17:04 |
Laney | just call the build system yourself if you want that | 17:04 |
Trevinho | well, it used to work when there was stamp files | 17:04 |
Laney | "it" is a different thing | 17:04 |
Trevinho | I only wanted the debian packaging part to go, with no compilation before | 17:04 |
pitti | dh_clean ought to do that; what happens after that and debuild -nc? | 17:05 |
Trevinho | well, I had to clean all since something got broken on cmake side | 17:06 |
davmor2 | willcooke: nvidia is working here I can try a fresh install tomorrow but probably won't have time for that today | 17:09 |
Laney | nouveau not nvidia | 17:09 |
davmor2 | Laney: ah nouveau might not work it is a prime laptop but I can give it a go | 17:10 |
tkamppeter | hikiko, hi | 17:21 |
Laney | byeeeeeeee | 18:26 |
* pitti waves good night | 18:28
larsu | good night pitti! | 18:28 |
pitti | larsu: gute Reise! | 18:28 |
larsu | pitti: danke! Bis Freitag ;) | 18:30 |
Sweet5hark1 | g'night all | 18:30 |
larsu | bye Sweet5hark1 | 18:30 |
willcooke | larsu, da fuq is dis? imgur.com/bkmTHfC | 18:53 |
willcooke | http://imgur.com/bkmTHfC | 18:54 |
larsu | a link that my terminal doesn't make clickable | 18:54 |
larsu | haha thanks | 18:54 |
willcooke | :) | 18:54 |
willcooke | so | 18:54 |
larsu | ooh | 18:54 |
willcooke | I'm still playing with this underline | 18:54 |
larsu | you should switch to design | 18:54 |
willcooke | no way, this one is awesome | 18:54 |
willcooke | so that little white block at the bottom of the tab | 18:54 |
willcooke | is transparent | 18:54 |
willcooke | and moves with the tab when I drag it | 18:55 |
willcooke | only on the active tab | 18:55 |
willcooke | and hides the bottom border | 18:55 |
willcooke | and I cannot find where its coming from | 18:55 |
willcooke | I've stripped pretty much *everything* out of this theme | 18:55 |
willcooke | no sorry, it's *not* transparent | 18:57 |
* larsu goes digging | 18:58
willcooke | I wonder if it's part of the main pane where the text goes | 18:59 |
willcooke | coming up | 18:59 |
willcooke | rather than the tab going down | 18:59 |
flocculant | larsu disg with a transparent shovel - all the rage | 18:59 |
willcooke | I just don't see the appeal | 18:59 |
willcooke | geddit | 18:59 |
willcooke | ;) | 19:00 |
flocculant | ha ha | 19:00 |
flocculant | english sense of humour ftw | 19:00 |
larsu | you are sooo funny | 19:00 |
flocculant | :) | 19:00 |
* larsu actually did laugh | 19:00
flocculant | ha ha | 19:00 |
larsu | willcooke: adding a hover rule makes it work :( | 19:05 |
willcooke | is that a pseudo class? | 19:05 |
willcooke | :hover | 19:05 |
larsu | ya | 19:05 |
larsu | willcooke: ah, it's the border | 19:06 |
larsu | borders on ".notebook tab" are broken | 19:06 |
davmor2 | larsu: no you don't want the border to hover that needs to be static not floaty ;) | 19:07 |
willcooke | larsu, oki, in which case I think I give up on this then and just say it will be fixed in the future | 19:07 |
willcooke | thanks larsu | 19:07 |
larsu | willcooke: as a workaround, you could set a border on the labe; | 19:08 |
larsu | GeditTabLabel or something | 19:08 |
willcooke | larsu, yeah I tried that earlier, couldn't get it to look right | 19:08 |
larsu | but setting it on the tab itself makes it draw the background higher than it should | 19:08 |
larsu | willcooke: yeah in that case I'd say let's wait if we can | 19:08 |
willcooke | oki, well that actually makes me happy. Because I thought it was me | 19:09 |
larsu | hehe | 19:09 |
willcooke | Adwatia seems to do it ok, but I guess that's a special case | 19:09 |
larsu | hm indeed | 19:11 |
larsu | willcooke: intriguing ... we seem to trigger some bug. Maybe because of the border-image? | 19:12 |
willcooke | I've switched border-image: none; | 19:12 |
larsu | you've thought of everything ;) | 19:13 |
davmor2 | larsu: that's why willcooke is a manager and we lowly mortals | 19:13 |
willcooke | yeah right | 19:14 |
larsu | man, this is tricky! | 19:14 |
davmor2 | willcooke: Laney: I'm having no joy triggering nouveau on this laptop so I'll leave it till the morning and fire up a box with an nvidia card in it | 19:15 |
willcooke | thanks davmor2 | 19:15 |
larsu | willcooke: no clue, sorry :* | 19:21 |
larsu | s/:*/:(/ | 19:21 |
willcooke | larsu, no worries, thanks for taking a lool | 19:22 |
willcooke | look | 19:22 |
willcooke | sorry lool :) | 19:23 |
larsu | hehe | 19:23 |
willcooke | right, that's enough for today | 19:36 |
willcooke | g'night all | 19:36 |
davmor2 | Laney: so nouveau from live cd is running but I'll install and let you know for sure tomorrow | 19:42 |
