=== chrko_ is now known as chrko [02:52] computer just hung and rebooted about 3/4 through the install? not sure what happened there. [02:52] so i need a little help [02:52] !ask | austin_ [02:52] austin_: Please don't ask to ask a question, simply ask the question (all on ONE line and in the channel, so that others can read and follow it easily). If anyone knows the answer they will most likely reply. :-) See also !patience [02:53] studio-user843, if the install did not complete, assume your system is unstable and suspect. reinstall [02:53] ok so just installed ubuntu studio with encryption an well... I started to do the update an for some reason it wants to save everything to the /boot partician [02:54] austin_, I would guess that is what you specified in the partitioning stage. did you manually partition?? [02:56] i didn't manually partition I simply followed the instructions if this is too difficult i can always reinstall w/o the encryption [02:57] austin_, I have had greater success doing the encryption in post install. I suggest you reinstall, let ubuntu automagically partition itself then encrypt. [02:57] keep an eye on the system to observe errors and whatnot in case it reboots again. could be something else happening [02:58] cfhowlett, I let it do its thing.. all i selected was encryption of my hard disk and my home folder [02:58] just weird that it wants to save my updates to the smallest partition [02:59] austin_, understood. I am suggesting NOT encrypting during the initial installation. do it afterwards [02:59] yeah that is extremely abnormal. [03:01] well I guess i'll be back in i don't know maybe 30 minutes while i reinstall [03:01] thank you cfhowlett [03:01] austin_, hey [03:01] yes? [03:01] for grins and giggles: do an md5sum of your .iso and your USB [03:01] !md5sum [03:01] To verify your Ubuntu ISO image (or other files for which an MD5 checksum is provided), see http://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM or http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/answers/LQ_ISO/Checking_the_md5sum_in_Windows [03:02] let's' ensure good media before we do anything else. bad downloads DO happen --- and they cause unpredictable behavior [03:03] as soon as I read through an figure it out I'll be back with the results [03:07] ok I'll be honest I just downloaded this off another computer since I kind of formatted windows an I don't exactly have access to the iso now the usb I have in my possession [03:10] austin_, in future, *always* verify your .iso. saves confusion, time, headaches. [03:39] cfhowlett, im back [03:40] hey! [03:40] clean install [03:40] no issues so far, then? [03:40] well i haven't done any encryption [03:45] updates going smoothly [18:30] hello o/ [18:32] when i right click on items per se in a program and choose open folder i get audacious opening up how do i change that so that it actually opens the folder in file manager ? [19:00] parlabane_: LP bug 1196339, a few hints here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/267514/open-containing-folder-in-firefox-does-not-use-my-default-file-manager , and it'd be 'Thunar-folder-handler.desktop' in Ubuntu Studio by default.
