gabrielmihaiKubuntu 15.10 doesn't have libgnome-vfsmm-2.6-dev package?00:01
gabrielmihaiSorry...00:01
gabrielmihaiHello! :D00:01
gabrielmihai:))00:01
genii!info libgnome-vfsmm-2.600:01
ubottuPackage libgnome-vfsmm-2.6 does not exist in wily00:01

ubottuPackage libgnome-vfsmm-2.6 does not exist in trusty00:01
geniiHm00:02
gabrielmihaiwhat means wily and trusty?00:03
geniigabrielmihai: wily=15.10 trusty-14.0400:04
gabrielmihaiA, ok00:04
gabrielmihaithank you very much!00:05
geniiIt was in Precise but must have been replaced by another package now with a different name00:06
=== em_ is now known as em
gabrielmihaiok. I'll try to find it00:07
emAny of you know of a nice app that runs on linux which would do the following: Be a gui for doing public key cryptography stuff with a GUI for users who are really crappy at using computers?00:07
geniiem: A better definition of "public key cryptography stuff" might help :)00:11
emencrypt and decrypt files that you want to send and receive using gpg00:12
geniiProbably the simplest webmail server you could find, with gnupg and a keyserver on it, and some tinkering underneath00:20
geniiBut nothing as a turnkey solutyion that I've seen yet for this00:21
gabrielmihaiCan you tell me how to find this package? I need it, otherwise I can not build someting.00:25
gabrielmihaiAt least I think so!00:26
geniigabrielmihai: Since this package no longer exists, it must have been made obsolete or replaced by a package of a different name. I would suspect libgnomevfs2-dev is the one now00:27
gabrielmihaiok. That's what you ask00:29

Guest60830hi, you probably had this topic before, but since I cannot browse history I need to post this question. I saw that Ubuntu 16.04 doesn't have beta version of Kubuntu. What is happened to kubuntu development? Is this over or?08:10
Guest60830* sorry I meant Canonical08:11
hateballGuest60830: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/daily-live/current/08:15
DaskreechGuest60830: It's still being built08:17
Guest60830Ah ok, because I have found that there are several distros that has beta 1 released but for kubuntu - it say - it is not joining the party :)08:19
Guest60830http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2016/02/ubuntu-16-04-beta-1-download-flavors08:19
Guest60830"Not taking part is Kubuntu."08:19
DaskreechSomewhat true but if you would like to get into beta testing just grab the beta08:27
Guest60830Daskreech, there is no beta of kubuntu 16.04, only daily images08:34

hateballejay: read the link I gave you, it details why13:23
MylonHmm... "Cinnamon" doesn't show up in Discover.13:31

BluesKajMylon, so you expaect an answer to that comment/question here ?13:34
MylonI was hoping for a recommendation.  But I'll go ahead and install xfce and see how that goes.13:36
BluesKajMylon, this is a kde /kubuntu channel , go look elsewhere for those recommendations13:37

TechHello!16:17
BluesKajhey Tech16:18
TechHey there16:18
TechI'm trying to figure out how to "snap to grid" the desktop icons, like you can in Windows...16:19
TechI'm using Kubuntu 15.1016:19
TechI've crawled all over the net looking, and poked around in Kubuntu, but cannot find it16:20
TechLinux Mint at least has "Keep Aligned", but I can't find anything close in K15.1016:21
BluesKajTech, systemsettings>desktop effects, scroll down to windows management>desktop grid, that's as close as i can find16:24
TechBluesKaj, I think that aligns various virtual desktopns in a grid.  You wouldn't think something so basic as aligning desktop icons would be missing.  I mean, who wants to  have icons on their desktop without being able to keep them aligned nicely.  Thanks for looking16:31
al8989hello I have a question is it ok toinstall ubuntu on the old ancient ide hard drives? Would there be a big performance hit since installing onto a computer with 3 gb ram and an  intel q6600 quadcore processor.16:34
BluesKajTech, if you align the icons manually they will stick ... sorry but i haven't used desktop icons since quicklaunch widget came along for the panel16:35
BluesKajal8989, kubuntu should run quite well on older IDE hdds , I have  WD160 from 2006 that works perfrctly fine. not as fast as the newer sata etc but close enough not to notice , especilly with 3G RAM and your cpu16:38
al8989i was asking this because it orignally had a sata hd in the computer but the sata hd died and i think some ports might be bad, however i was able to determine that the ide ports still work.16:39
al8989BluesKaj, i was asking this because it orignally had a sata hd in the computer but the sata hd died and i think some ports might be bad, however i was able to determine that the ide ports still work.16:40
BluesKajal8989, yes I read your post the first time, like I said your IDE should work just fine16:41
al8989BluesKaj ah ok do you worth me trying to salvage the pc or should i just replacethe board since sata ports aren't working right16:43
BluesKajare yoiu sure the sata ports aren't working al898916:43
al8989well the dvd drive and the hard drive don't work i tried three hard drives, but right beforethis my main hard drive startted to fail and make the loud grinding noises that a failing hard drive makes.  However, when i plugin an odide dvd rom drive i had i wasableto boot the ubuntu ive cd16:45
al8989howevermy sata dvd rom does not work16:45
al8989like either of my two hd's16:46
BluesKajok , that's not a good sign16:46
al8989but the ide portwork fine16:46
al8989i was thinking of just scrapping thewhoe thing as i can buy orbuid  a much better pc for a few hundred dollars16:47
BluesKajhow many IDE connectors on the motherboard?16:47
al8989two16:47
BluesKajsounds to me like an older pc16:48
al8989it has one of the full atx motherboards in it it has four sata and two ide16:48
TechBluesKaj - I don't see QuickLaunch as an available widget in the add widgets list.  I'm guessing it's incorporated into the panel by default? (I see I can simply drag icons to the panel)16:50
BluesKajand all the sta connections fail?16:50
BluesKajsata16:50
al8989well it finds the hard drives and the dvd ro dirve but they don't work right and makes the computer shut off, but the coputer stayson when i use the ide stuff16:51
BluesKajTech, which kubuntu?16:51
BluesKajal8989, that's strange16:52
al8989i figured a bootable system first, since my i know my primary hd that had the os died and then i try to see what sata ports i could get to work16:53
al8989i don't want tothe touch theother sata and but an os on it because that has all my documents on it16:53
al8989i hadone hd forthe os a nd software and one for my documents that are backed up ontodvds16:54
BluesKajal8989, the pc shuts down when no HDD is detected, thatprobly why the dvdrom etc won't work without a hdd in the pc...that's only thing I can think of16:54
al8989yes thats what i was thinking myself16:55
BluesKajTech, which kubuntu and kde/plasma version are you using, think the quicklaunch may have been dropped in the earlier plasma desktop widget set16:57
BluesKajTech, aamof there's no quicklaunch in 15.10 at all...I'm running 16.04 development version which has it restored17:04
BluesKajjust checked17:04
