=== dax is now known as daxcat [07:53] Well, time to find out if Ubuntu dropping the AMD Catalyst drivers means I can't boot graphically anymore. Will be fun times! [07:53] It's exciting because that's how I wanted to spend my evening. [07:57] radeon works well these days [07:57] which graphics card do you have? [07:58] there's a new kernel driver, amdgpu [07:59] yep. Volcanic Islands cards use that, and I think Sea Islands can too but not 100% sure. Everything else is radeon. [08:37] daxcat: sort of a Radeon HD 6520G. [08:41] i don't think catalyst has supported that in a long time [08:50] Well, that'd be wrong. [08:50] In any case, there's just vesa support now. [08:54] there should be radeon [08:56] It isn't loading. But I think Ubuntu didn't uninstall fglrx cleanly, so making the appropriate changes. [08:59] Seems to work now. [09:03] Video playback is smoother on the occasional trouble videos, too. Have to test gaming, but so far this is auspicious. [09:13] We'll maybe call it suboptimal. [09:38] radeon does video and desktop stuff better. fglrx does gaming better and everything else worse [09:38] since the only good game is nethack, radeon ftw [09:58] I do most of my gaming in Windows, so it will be a slight inconvenience, but it should suffice. === daxcat is now known as ezri === ezri is now known as daxcat
