darkxstricotz, xorg 1.18 and nvidia 361 (from archives) working ok for you? I keep get boot to a vt12:44
darkxstthen when I switch back to Xorg all backgrounds are corrupt12:44
ricotzdarkxst, this combination works fine here12:48
ricotzthe corrupted background is a fbo bug (of g-s/mutter)12:48
darkxstok, its kinda strange being kicked to a vt, but the session is still running fine apart form bg corruption12:50
ricotzoh, I assumed you are talking about two different problems12:51
ricotz(switching to tty and back results in a corrupted background in any case)12:52
ricotzboot process is fine here12:52
darkxst5mins into a session, I get booted to a text vt12:52
darkxstI can then switch back to Xorg but with corrupted backgrounds12:53
ricotzmaybe triggerd by some energy settings, like a failing suspend12:53
darkxstits a desktop, and suspend doesnt work ever so its disabled12:54
darkxst(well suspend works, resume doesnt)12:54
ricotzdid you spot something weird in the logs?12:54
ricotzis this with stock ubuntu or with staging?12:55
ricotz(I am running "stock" on my nvidia system here)12:56
darkxstwith staging, and I couldn't find anything in the logs12:57
ricotzhaving updated xorg-server while it got updated could cause trouble too12:57
ricotz(I mean while it runs)12:58
darkxstwell it got updated a few days ago, but i only rebooted today12:58
ricotzjust noticed there is a server update12:58
ricotzI see, there were multiple kernel updates too13:00
ricotzI can't say much about optimus setups if you have an integrated intel graphics in parallel too13:00
darkxstno, its only the nvidia GPU13:03
darkxstanyway I should go to bed13:04
ricotzalright, cya13:05

Shawnubuntu gnome has been acting slow since wily. animations are choppy. at first i thought it was my laptop, so I bought a 5th gen i3 laptop and no change17:44
Shawnand debian with backported intel drivers is smooth as butter, just like ubuntu gnome was before wily17:45
Shawnon xenial and the new laptop , the intel drivers (xserver-xorg-video-intel) is the same as in debian Sid17:46
Shawnand that version works smoothly on debian17:46
Shawni wonder if debian is useing some build optimization that ubuntu-gnome doesnt use?17:47
Shawnfedora 23, which uses 3.18, was marginally less smooth than debian which uses 3.14. that can be explained as the difference in gnome versions17:49
Shawni  am installing openSuse gnome now to see how it handles17:50
Shawnhuh,  openSuse using 3.16 works fine too18:00
