knomewell, there's the sound menu for the indicator area00:00
sakrecoeror rather:  will it be as is now: click volume icon lower volume00:00
sakrecoerok cool00:00
knomei don't know what ubuntu studio is doing with those packages, reall00:00
knomethe reason why this is brought up is that the package is removed from debian00:01
knomewe haven't really used it for a while, so it's a no-brainer to drop it from our seed00:01
sakrecoerok, i'm just trying to understand how it will impact us00:01
sakrecoeror us=ubuntustudio00:01
knomei don't have the exact answer for that, but you could always boot up an ISO and remove that package and see what happens00:02
sakrecoerok, i will try that... how do i remove a package from a live ISO?00:02
knomeafaiu, as you would normally.00:04
sakrecoersudo purge xfce4-volumd ?00:04
sakrecoeryep, i'm a post-n00b like that, learning as you type :)00:05
knomeor you can remove the package from your own installation00:05
knomeif it breaks something, you can always add it back00:05
sakrecoerok00:05
sakrecoerthank you knome ! :) i still don't realy undertsand what is at stake, since i note no difference...00:14
sakrecoerbut i guess it is good sign,,,00:14
sakrecoerexcept of course what you said: an unmaintained package less to maintain00:15
OvenWerk1sakrecoer: I have a computer in the house with xubuntu 16.04, which does not have -volumed in it. The volume keys on the keyboard still work as does the systray/indicator volume control. So we should also be able to remove -volumed with no effect except to maybe need to change a setting in the indicator... which appears to have no settings anyway :) so we should be good.00:41
sakrecoerOvenWerk1 good! :)00:50
sakrecoeri tried with another user on my dev install, i can't find any difference. it would be nice to grasp what its about, but time will teach me :)00:52
OvenWerk1sakrecoer: don't hold your breath on jack3. The development on it is still moving, but very slow. One of jackd1's top devs is quitting to focus on other projects for example. Also as applications are becoming more monolythic... people are returning to raw alsa.00:52
sakrecoer:) change is the only constant! :D00:53
OvenWerk1plugins are becoming very important.00:55
sakrecoerplugins? as? audio plugins?00:55
OvenWerk1yup00:55
sakrecoer:) yeah, well, they have been for a while, haven't they?00:56
sakrecoerwhich plugins would you reckon are.. hm.. mandatory, OvenWerk1 ?00:57
OvenWerk1the ones you use ;)00:59
sakrecoerhaha! my pugins are pugged into my physical mixer... that why i ask01:02
sakrecoerbut to answer you, i need compressors and time effect: delay, reverb01:03
OvenWerk1sakrecoer: a keyboard player would be lost with no synth plugins, a guitar player will be wanting cabinet simulator01:03
sakrecoerwe do have badass synths tho, don't we?01:05
sakrecoerguitar realm, i'm a bit... well i don't know much about it01:05
OvenWerk1The calf plugin set sort of covers the basics, but I prefer the x42 EQ or the eq10q set. Fons reverb is widely used01:06
OvenWerk1I do like some of the plate revers though.01:06
sakrecoersynth realm, i fell the only thing linux synths are missing is some supercool dude rocking them out01:08
OvenWerk1I found the last bit I did I ended up using guitarix as standalone and inserting it. It still doesn't sound as good (to me) as my tech21 cabinet simulator into a real speaker and miced01:08
OvenWerk1I would imagine a real amp would sound even better.01:08
sakrecoersound beter, as in: standing next to it, hearing on stage, listening to a record or just in average?01:09
OvenWerk1setBfree is probably the best B3 emulator around01:09
OvenWerk1sound better as in listening/recording through speaker/headphones.01:10
sakrecoersetBfree is very nice indeed, but i feel the same about all the synth we have in the GNU/linux realm. setBfree being an exception because a few cool dudes agree01:10
OvenWerk1Some of that could be my settings in guitarix though01:10
OvenWerk1yoshimi is a favourit of many people too.01:11
OvenWerk1There are some sounds that are hard to beat a DX7 (or emulator) for.01:12
sakrecoerhehe... dx7 is a pure love/hate specimen01:13
sakrecoerin the ananlogue synth world, you better not mention it too much :D01:13
OvenWerk1anyone without an axe to grind has respect for them.01:13
sakrecoerexcept maybe in the hands of legowelt the dx7 becomes kindof cool01:13
sakrecoerresoect? haha! nonono... well, at least not were i'm about01:14
sakrecoerbut hey, were i'm about is not the hole world01:14
OvenWerk1The are keyboard players who have played them for years and state they still feel they are just getting to know them. The biggest problem was that most people used only stock sounds and did no programming.01:16
sakrecoeri've been arround computers my hole life, i still feel like i'm just getting to know them01:16
OvenWerk1The DX takes time to get to know. I have forgotten most of what I did figure out.01:16
sakrecoerthere is so much mysticism arround sound01:17
sakrecoerjust like computers01:17
sakrecoeri'd like to see through that. i believe a hit can be made with two hands and i microphone01:17
sakrecoerbut i don't want to disrespect computer made music01:17
sakrecoeri think this is where we lack something in the GNU/Linux realm: computer made compositions01:18
OvenWerk1Synths can be used two ways: 1) as a way to replay an expensive group of musicians 2) as a method of making unique sounds01:19
OvenWerk1I have more respect for the second, but often fall into the first group in my own use.01:19
sakrecoeri feel you. i think i do like you, because at the end of the day, no matter how original i think my "song" is, i got the idea from inspiration01:22
sakrecoerinspiraiotn as in, something fitting into my taste made up of everything i like about music01:23
sakrecoermaybe we should jump into ubustu-OT01:23
sakrecoer? :)01:23
OvenWerk1I should probably go make my family something to eat.01:24
sakrecoerthat sounds like a master plan!01:24
sakrecoeri'm sure it will benefit everyone in your family, hence it will benefit ubuntustudio too :)01:25
sakrecoera happy and relaxed OvenWerk1 is an excellent OvenWerk1 01:25
sakrecoeri should do something similar01:25
sakrecoerlooking forward to read you! BIG UP!01:26
knomesakrecoer, zequence: i'm sending a ticket to IS to review the community theme; do you want it available for ubuntustudio.org ASAP?11:09
sakrecoerknome: not sure we in a hurry with it, i understood it would be nice to have it for release, which is pretty soon anyways ;) what do you think zequence ?11:44
sakrecoerknome: any plan to use noto on the template?11:45
knomenot currently11:46
knomeand i would consider "for release" ASAP...11:46
knomesakrecoer, let me know your email and i'll add you to the requestors for a ticket11:47
sakrecoerknome: sent it to you in a query11:48
knomedone, you should get mail about it quickly11:48
sakrecoercool!11:48
knomethe ticket does depend on the theme getting code review, so it likely won't land that quickly11:49
sakrecoerthanks knome !11:50
sakrecoerhi cfhowlett :) you said you wanted to write me something?11:51
knomenp11:51
cfhowletterrrr, I forget ... that *was* days ago :)11:52
sakrecoer:) good to see you anyways cfhowlett 11:52
cfhowlettLikewise!11:53
luisbgknome: gstreamer 1.0 does have a mixing interface14:30
luisbgknome: if you send me an email with a summary of the issue with xfce4-volumd, I can look at their code and see how it can be fixed/updated14:31
luisbgmaybe get in contact with the maintainer14:31
sakrecoerso, krytarik, i have fixed the fonts, renamed "font-meta" to "fonts". perhaps i should push to a junk branch so you can check?22:46
sakrecoeri did a commit -m for each change22:46
krytarikDo you have pastebinit installed?  Just paste the diff through that.22:47
sakrecoerfor some reason i remember being told to do so, but i'm not sure about that memory22:47
sakrecoeryeah i have it22:47
krytarik"-m" is just for specifying the commit message directly, rather than using a text editor.22:49
krytarikSo: "bzr diff | pastebinit".22:49
krytarikAlso, check "bzr stat" before.22:49
sakrecoerah thanks! i tried to figure it out by myself first, but thats faster :)22:50
sakrecoerwhat should i look for with bzr stat?22:50
krytarikIf there is something "unknown", for example.22:51
krytarikShould just be "modified" and "renamed" in this case.22:51
sakrecoerah yeah, good! i had forgotten the last commit :p22:51
sakrecoerhmm.. "you are trying to send an empty document..22:52
krytariklol22:52
krytarikBecause you already committed the changes.22:52
sakrecoerah...22:52
krytarikWait.22:53
krytarikIf you did only one commit: "bzr diff -c 1473 | pastebinit".22:55
sakrecoeryou want the other ones too? i kranked up to 1476 ... :p22:57
sakrecoerhttp://paste.ubuntu.com/15367379/22:57
krytarikThat'd be "bzr diff -r 1472" then. :D23:01
krytarikGood job doing separate commits though. :P23:02
sakrecoer:) i believe zequence told me it was the right way23:05
krytarikYes yes, it is! :)23:05
sakrecoerah, i made an --unchanged because i wrote wrong in the comments so 1474 is empty23:07
sakrecoerbut here is 1475 http://paste.ubuntu.com/15367467/23:07
sakrecoerand 1476: http://paste.ubuntu.com/15367479/23:08
krytarikSome stuff is missing - for reference again: http://paste.openstack.org/raw/YkyGCb7IKoOOZs1tLIGo/23:10
krytarikAlso, there shouldn't be empty commits in there, of course.23:11
krytarik(Weird Bazaar, even allowing that!)23:12
sakrecoeri tried to jsut write another one, and it gave me the option when the commit was empty. and i forgot to relax :D23:13
krytarikYeah, never forget to relax. :D23:13
sakrecoerregarding the reference23:15
sakrecoertypicaly, now that we renmaed font-meta to "fonts", we would have to update it in there aswell right?23:15
krytarikYep, that's what I did.23:17
sakrecoerok, i'll grep for other ones..23:17
sakrecoerseems to be the only file in there. are we sure no other things will have broken links because this name-change?23:18
sakrecoeror rather, can we verify it somehow?23:18
krytarikUmm, did you "grep 'font-meta' *"?  Also: "sed -i 's/font-meta/fonts/' *"23:21
sakrecoerhm, i did grep 'font-meta' but i figured ubuntustudio-font-meta is something else..?23:22
sakrecoeri'll do your comando kungfu now23:22
krytarikAnd I suggest to commit that along with renaming that file.23:23
sakrecoerok23:24
krytarikNope, that's what is produced based on it at the end - after updating the metapackage part as well.23:25
krytarikThat's why it's confusing to call it "-meta" there.23:26
sakrecoer"And I suggest to commit that along with renaming that file" the font-meta to fonts, right? but that i did already, so it will have to be another commit..23:28
krytarikYes.  And well, you can still unwind and redo things - just for practice, you know. :P23:29
sakrecoernice! hmm.. did the kungfu command, but bzr stat says nothing23:30
sakrecoerit gave me an error message about "doc" being a folder..23:30
krytarikYeah...23:31
krytarikAh yes, that's why it stumbled here ealier too - sed doesn't like that. :P23:32
sakrecoeryeah, first contact with sed for me..23:32
sakrecoerit didn't do anything as it hit that error.23:32
sakrecoerlooking in man for a recursive flag or something.23:33
sakrecoerbb in 5...23:34
krytarik* earlier - and here instead: "sed -i 's/font-meta/fonts/' font-meta graphics publishing STRUCTURE"23:36
sakrecoertahnks :) hehe, i'm considering tattooing "relax" on my forarm.. 23:39
krytarikhahaha23:40
krytarikSeriously though, it really helps me too - slow down, things will go much smoother and better. :)23:40
sakrecoeryeah :)23:41
krytarikHelps with the typing as well - only sometimes you get carried away still, like above. :P23:41
sakrecoerhehe.. *blushing* ye, i'm good at getting carried away while typing23:42
krytarikLOL - I know.23:42
sakrecoerhere is the last diff http://paste.ubuntu.com/15367858/23:53
knomeluisbg, i'm not familiar with the code myself (or with most code), but you can contact the original author (steve dodier) in irc by the nickname sidi, if you are interested in making this work again :)23:55
krytariksakrecoer: Hmm, what's with 'STRUCTURE'?23:56
sakrecoerboom! good catch :D23:56
sakrecoerthere WILL be a tattoo :D23:57
krytarikhahaha23:57
sakrecoerhm.. funny tho, i had included the file in the sed string..23:57
sakrecoerkrytarik: right, i had fixed STRUCTURE in 147723:59
