shane_Sorry folks, but I'm about to put kubuntu down like a rabid dog. Screen flicker is out of control. suspend lasts maybe 12 hours, dolphin can't drag and drop files to a browser, nor can it recall how to submit samba credentials to a network drive, and bluetooth can't send audio12:36
shane_I just don't see how this level of OS issues hasn't created a firestorm in the community....12:36

pat_rickI'm suffering from some annoying wifi issues, anyone got some experience with that?12:50
pat_rickapparently, my connection speed randomly (and quite often) slows down to a crawl and I would like to find out why12:50
shane_16.04 beta - each batch of updates seems to bring more issues. ie. bluetooth worked great!  and now, it will find and connect, but audio stops playing as soon as I switch to the BT device. Starts again when I stop bluetooth12:51
shane_screen flicker driving me crazy12:51

pat_rickthe issue seems limited to my Kubuntu (15.10) installation, it works fine in Windows (dual-boot here) and on my Laptop currently running Mint 17.3, so I suspect it's a driver issue12:55

sithlord48pat_rick: did u check the driver manager in system settings.. iirc the realtek wifi cards perfer the propitary driver13:03
pat_ricksithlord48: I just mentioned my Mint installation to point out that the network is working fine with other pcs, just not this one13:04
pat_ricksithlord48: I'm not offered different drivers in the settings, the card was detected out-of-the-box13:05
pat_rickI tried intalling the proprietary driver from the Realtek site, but the installation is not working right, at some time it stops with some error message13:05
pat_rickI suspect that it's not working with recent kernels, the drivers are ~3 years old13:06
sithlord48yeah sounds about right for propertary drivers...13:06

sithlord48seams like it could be an issue for some time now...13:09
pat_rickI had problems on older versions, too13:13
pat_ricksince about 1 year or such, it's at least "working" out-of-the-box without the need to tell him manually which driver to use (which has been included in the frimware for some time, apparently)13:14
pat_rickI always had issues with my connection stalling out, but when it worked, it worked reasonably fast13:14
sithlord48its an improvement..13:14
sithlord48thats is what seams to be the problem .. have you check the power status of the card like in that thread.13:15

sithlord48http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/daily-live/current/13:19
sithlord48pat_rick:  at very least booting in to live mode should tell you if the wifi driver will be better or not as you should be able to use it from there13:20

sithlord48the daily is made daily from the packages . so that you are always mostly up to date on that realease . dailys stop after the release and they move to the next release13:22

neanderslobhi all, where can I submit bugs related to kubuntu?  I checked the wiki and it only mentioned how to report bugs relevant to specific applications21:51
user|41446If I install now the 16.04 beta 2 and update is it like to install tomorrow the 16.04 released21:51
clivejoneanderslob: depends what the problem is related to21:51
neanderslobclivejo: I went for it to avoid the rush and it's certainly stable enough for me to get my work done on it21:51
clivejoneanderslob: whats the bug regarding?21:52
neanderslobclivejo: one is the audio volume settings21:52
clivejohave you checked Launchpad to see if the bug has been reported?21:53
neanderslobclivejo: yep! (though a good recommendation)21:53
clivejoif its actual KDE software we post the bugs to KDE directly21:54
neanderslobclivejo: ah, very good21:55
clivejohttps://bugs.kde.org/21:55
clivejocan you descript what the bug is?21:55
neanderslobclivejo: so all those bugs on launchpad are relevent to kubuntu-specific applications?21:56
clivejothey can be all different issues, but some bugs are due to upstream (KDE) software21:57
neanderslobgot it21:57
clivejoand some are cause by how we (Kubuntu) puts it on top of the Ubuntu base system21:58
neanderslobso the particular bug: the volume settings say "No Output devices available" but the audio works just fine21:58
neanderslobactually on the initial install, the volume controls also worked; they stopped after I ran an upgrade21:59

clivejoah22:04
neanderslobI always try do-release-upgrade on ceremony and it always throws errors for me (probably because I always go from lts to lts)22:04
neanderslobwhen I said I ran an upgrade and it stopped working, I was talking about a standard sudo apt-get upgrade22:05
valoriewell, lts > lts upgrades are only supported in the .1 release22:05
valorieusually a month or six weeks after the initial release22:05
valorieLTS users are after stability after all, so that first bugfix is a good time to upgrade22:05
neanderslobah, well there you have it22:06
neanderslobvalorie: thanks for the explanation22:06
valorieif you want to upgrade upon release, tell your upgrade manager "all new releases"22:06
valorieinstead of just LTS > LTS22:06
clivejoI’ve never had much trouble with audio, so I’m not familiar with this problem.  But it does seem odd that it worked then stopped after the upgrade22:06

valoriealsa22:08
clivejobut able to control via alsa terminal22:08
neanderslobvalorie: alsa works very well22:08
neanderslobvalorie: the problem isn't that I'm not getting sound; I am.  The problem is that the gui control isn't working22:09
neanderslobnot recognizing existance of output devices etc22:09
valorieyes, I read what you said, but do not know the cause22:10
valoriecould be kmix, could be pulseaudio, etc.22:10
valorielinux sound is so complicated, with so many layers22:10
telegram1<athoneycutt>: try alsamixer in konsole and see if something is muted22:11
telegram1<athoneycutt>: the right audio interface might be picked22:11

keithzgclivejo: Ah, fair enough. Yeah, I don't have that since Google's text messages have been . . . inconsistent in actually arriving for me (sometimes entire months have gone by where they never have when I've had to use them) so I don't trust 2-factor that way.23:13
neanderslob_clivejo: got it, seems to be the .config/kmixrc settings23:14
neanderslob_thanks for the help!23:14
