tonitoHello, Please someone can tell about USB 3.0 in Ubunto Studio 14.04?01:07
tonitohello ?01:09
NoobieZAHi. I need help with mysql please. I'm trying to set up zoneminder and when I get to this stage I just get "unable to locate package"12:11
sakrecoerNoobieZA: you wont find any help here for that. try #mysql or #zoneminder12:14
NoobieZAthanks12:14
sakrecoerusing zoneminder to set up a music video, NoobieZA ?12:15

clearwoodHi I have just installed ubuntu studio and I am trying to install mathbuntu on top via the script.  It does not work.  Is there someone here who have done this ?16:57
clearwoodis there any one here ?17:00
sakrecoerhi clearwood :) i think everyone is busy today.17:01
sirriffsalot_clearwood, fraid I can't help, hence quiet :)17:01
clearwoodok thanks for your reply :)17:02
sakrecoeri've never used mathbuntu, but ubuntu studio is really just ubuntu..17:02
sakrecoerso apt-get should install most things you want17:02
clearwoodbut it uses xfce doesnt it ?17:02
sakrecoerclearwood: yes17:02
sakrecoeroh but, mathbuntu is a nother flavour of ubuntu17:04
sakrecoerclearwood: to run mathbuntu within ubuntustudio, you need to set up a virtual machine17:04
sakrecoerclearwood: or you install it on another partition of your HD17:05
clearwoodmathbuntu has this install script that I have run on another pc and it worked.  But when I try to run it on ubuntu studio I get som strange messages17:05
sakrecoeri found this on their website: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fm_ygkKNJko17:06
clearwoodis another ubunt install on another machine17:06
clearwoodyes I saw it17:06
clearwoodbut its fore some old distro version17:07
sakrecoerfrom the website it looks like mathbunut hasn't been updated since 201417:07
sakrecoerbut i had never heard about it before...17:07
clearwoodmaybe its because of this xfce17:08
sakrecoerif it was made specifically for another DE, maybe..17:09
sakrecoerclearwood: you could make a bootable USB stick, and boot mathbuntu from it17:09
clearwoodwhat is DE17:09
sakrecoerDesktop Environment17:09
clearwooddone the stidk thing  before but the stick, does leaves out a few things.  Prefer prober install, via the script17:12
sakrecoerthe documentation is a bit obscure, but from the list of included software here http://www.mathbuntu.org/index.html?open=howto under "LEArn More"17:13
sakrecoeri think could apt-get install all of them, except that "R" you would have find its name in the repository17:13
sakrecoerbut i'm really affraid it is out of the scope of ubuntu studio, that is to say: you wont find much help about it here17:14
clearwoodyes.  I would love to have both thing ie. studio and math17:15
sakrecoerhttp://www.mathbuntu.org/index.html?open=information17:15
clearwoodyes I guess I can do the long walk and install it all one by one17:16
clearwoodI the 14.4 so that I possibly could use the install script.17:17
sakrecoermaybe.17:18
sakrecoerif it is important to you to have both, i would try that.17:18
sakrecoeror boot mathbuntu in a virtual machine, but that isn't much easier...17:19
clearwoodThe install script is a bit strange I dont understand it17:20
clearwood[Desktop Entry] Categories=Education;Math; Comment[en_US]= Comment= Exec=xterm -e "`dirname %k`/.files/setup" GenericName[en_US]=Install Mathematical Software GenericName=Install Mathematical Software Icon=ubiquity MimeType= Name[en_US]=MathUbuntu Set Up Name=MathUbuntu Set Up Path= StartupNotify=false Terminal=true TerminalOptions= Type=Application17:20
sakrecoerplease don't paste it here17:20
clearwoodI just thought I could use parts of it17:20
sakrecoerhttp://paste.ubuntu.com/17:21
sakrecoerbut tbh, that will not empower me to help you :(17:21
clearwoodok sorry17:21
sakrecoertry to see if they have an email list, or a IRC chanel maybe. I mean the mathbuntu guys17:21
sakrecoergood luck clearwood !17:22
clearwoodyes and thanks for your attention17:22
clearwoodmuch appreciated :)17:22
sirriffsalot_zequence, yo!17:33
clearwoodjust i little question.   is it possible to define shortcuts like for instance the windows key for the menu (topleft)17:41
clearwoodin studio that is :)17:41
sirriffsalot_clearwood, in ardour you mean? Sure17:42
olinuxxhi sakrecoer I've read a discussion on an ubuntustudio ML lastly about screencasters. Within this discussion, someone mentionned that simplescreenrecorder isn't packaged in debian/ubuntu. I've got a package of it in my LibraZiK repos (debian jessie). I'm not sure how it is in regards of DFSG but : it works. Just mentionning it here if you guys want to start from something already done. Be aware that my package is done with a 0.3.3 version o17:42
olinuxxf SSR which is quite outdated but, once again, it works and it works with JACK for audio. HTH17:42
zequenceolinuxx: Best would be to get the package into Debian, and we get it automatically from there17:43
clearwoodsirriffsalot: no just in the DE17:43
zequencesirriffsalot_: Hello there17:43
olinuxxzequence, I know, I've just proposed that to the debian-multimedia team17:44
sirriffsalot_zequence, have you been kicking some serious drum asses? :D17:44
zequencesirriffsalot_: Not yet, still stuck at home, but tomorrow, for sure!17:45
olinuxxzequence, I was just mentionning for whatever it worth17:45
sirriffsalot_zequence, cool, just curious :)17:45
sirriffsalot_zequence, actually gonna head to the rehearsal room alone tomorrow for the first time, drummer's off to denmark to see Adele and vocalist is busy working so, gonna try rigging for drum recording and shit17:45
zequenceolinuxx: Yes, unfortunately we would not package anything for Ubuntu unless it was totally impossible to get into Debian, and there were no serious licensing issues (and still, it would be only if someone is interested in doing it)17:45
sirriffsalot_zequence, I actually intuitively get drums more so than I thought, with some practice I could maybe pull off the basics17:46
zequencesirriffsalot_: Cool17:46
zequencesirriffsalot_: Like most things, simple when you know it17:46
olinuxxup to you guys :)17:46
zequenceAlways better to package for Debian so it gets spread out to as many Debian based as possible17:49
zequenceSo, no use in packaging for Ubuntu only, without special reasons17:49
sakrecoercool olinuxx, nice thought! but yeah, i think the debian way is pretty nice on a larger scale :)17:50
olinuxxas said : it's been proposed to debian multimedia as well, wait'n'see then :)17:51
zequenceolinuxx: I'm sure they could use a hand. YOu did the packaging yourself?17:51
olinuxxI started from a package of 0.3.1 from TangoStudio, then updated it to build on debian jessie (tangostudio was based on jessie), then updated to a 0.3.3+git version17:53
olinuxxoups17:53
olinuxxtangostudio was based on wheezy17:53
zequenceolinuxx: If there are no problems with the packaging, should be no biggie. But, of course, maintaining packages for Debian has its own workflows and problems, so it can get a bit overwhelming - but there are people willing to help17:56
zequenceolinuxx: First thing to do is create a bug for it17:56
olinuxxyep, I might do that17:57
olinuxxnever did before, so I'll check it17:57
olinuxxthanks for the hint zequence17:57
zequencehttps://wiki.debian.org/DebianMentorsFaq#How_do_I_add_a_new_package_to_the_archive.3F17:58
zequenceolinuxx: ^17:58
olinuxxwill have a look to it, thanks.17:59
galatheashi... anyone there?19:11
olinuxxgalatheas, a few people yes, please feel free to ask your question, then wait for an answer :)19:13
galatheasthx olinuxx ;)19:13
sirriffsalot_*sneers*19:14
galatheasso, i got some problems to get jack run with my audio interface... i use the Native Instruments Guitar Rig Kontrol 2 (usb) ... if i try to select the interface as input and ouput device, jackd dont satrts...19:15
galatheasi got the follow error messages...19:16
galatheasThu Apr 28 21:07:56 2016: ERROR: cannot register object path "/org/freedesktop/ReserveDevice1/Audio2": A handler is already registered for /org/freedesktop/ReserveDevice1/Audio2 Thu Apr 28 21:07:56 2016: ERROR: Failed to acquire device name : Audio2 error : A handler is already registered for /org/freedesktop/ReserveDevice1/Audio2 Thu Apr 28 21:07:56 2016: ERROR: Audio device hw:RigKontrol3,0 cannot be acquired... olinuxxyou're welcome galatheas , are you new with using IRC ?19:17
galatheasnot at all.. just used it to chat... not to solve any problems ;)19:18
olinuxxgalatheas, ok. Just be aware than on a help channel like this one, sometimes it can take a bit before getting an answer, so a "hi", then a question, then patience :)19:19
olinuxxI'm sure someone is going to answer you soon (I can't unfortunately)19:20
galatheasok ;) thank you olinuxx19:21
olinuxxwelcome :)19:21
sakrecoergalatheas: for apsting logs, please use http://paste.ubuntu.com/ when it is quiet like this nobody get hurt, but if serveal people are helping each other you will get in trouble with them :)19:40
sakrecoer*pasting19:40
sakrecoergalatheas: i'm affraid your logs aren't telling me much, but could you paste a screen shot of your settings in qjackctl here for me: http://www.pasteall.org/pic/19:40
zequencesakrecoer: galatheas: My suspicion is that jackd1 is installed19:41
zequenceSounds like the audio card is already use and jack can't grab it19:42
zequenceAlready forgotten if jackd1 is able to do that. jackd2 will do it19:43
galatheaswell zequence i use an ubuntu studio 16.04 installation.... so jackd is installed ;) @ sakrecoer ... screenshot in a few... ^^19:43
zequencegalatheas: jackd, yes, but that is just a meta19:43
zequenceWhich is why I*m asking jackd1, or jackd219:43
zequenceIf you for example decided to build something from source which deals with jack libs, then you would have removed jackd2 and installed jackd1 instead19:44
zequenceOur default is jackd219:45
zequenceUnder normal circumstances, it will just work - if you select a good device to start jack with19:45
galatheasno it is an fresh installation, without install anything else....19:45
zequencegalatheas: No need to select input and output separately, btw. It's best to not do that19:46
galatheassakrecoer: screen1 http://www.pasteall.org/pic/102513 and screen2 http://www.pasteall.org/pic/10251419:47
galatheaswell... i think i set up the rig kontroll device correctly as default device....19:48
zequencegalatheas: It is not the default device19:48
galatheas.... ehm... as system default ^19:48
zequencehw:0 is the default device19:48
zequencegalatheas: Try removing settings for input/output and making those default, then in the first page, select your device instead of "default"19:48
galatheashm if i start an mp3 or youtube video, i only listen on the output of the rig kontroll o019:49
galatheaswell... jackd starts then, but i dont have any peak on the inputs or outputs...19:49
zequenceYou can see inputs and outputs in "Connect"19:50
zequenceIf you want to monitor volume, you need to use some kind of software for that. Most recording software has monitoring built in19:50
zequenceIF that is what you meant by peak19:50
sakrecoerthanks zequence, sorry galatheas i have some afk things that came up inbetween. good luck!19:51
galatheas... i got an other message... Jack Server is started not by ladish daemon and there is no loaded studio, so a new studio is created and marked as started....19:51
zequenceladish is a separate application, so any problem with that is not totally linked to jack19:52
zequenceAnyway, seems like it is working now19:53
galatheaswell... jackd is started.. but it looks like that jackd is using the wrong device... (internal soundcard and not the usb interface)19:53
zequencegalatheas: That is why you need to select it in the first window20:02
zequenceqjackctl -> Setup -> Interface20:03
zequenceNot In and Out separately in Advanced20:03
zequence"default" always means the first device in order20:03
zequenceThe USB device is hw:0, but your device is hw:320:04
zequenceyou can see this by doing 'cat /proc/asound/cards'20:04
zequenceSo, "default" is always the first one - "0"20:04
zequenceSorry, the default device is hw:0, but your USB device is hw:320:05
galatheaswell... i change "default" to hw:rig_kontroll3 and i got the same error message...20:05
zequencegalatheas: Maybe you have some stuff running in the background from starting ladish or something20:06
zequencegalatheas: Let's try and kill that20:06
galatheashttp://paste.ubuntu.com/16119277/20:06
zequencegalatheas: 'killall jackd jackdbus pulseaudio'20:06
galatheasall killed...20:07
zequenceAlso, make sure to close all applications that deal with jac20:07
zequencejack*20:07
galatheasyep... all are closed...20:07
zequenceThen, open qjackctl, and try starting jack. Always do that first20:07
galatheasdriver Alsa and device: hw:RigKontrol3,0 ?20:08
zequenceyes20:08
zequencegalatheas: I'm assuming it has both stereo input and output?20:08
zequenceMore is ok too20:09
galatheasleft and right channel... yes... for both...20:09
zequencenot starting now?20:09
galatheasnope.. same error20:10
zequencesure all jacks were killed before, maybe something hung?20:10
zequencekillall -9 jackd jackdbus20:10
zequenceDo it a couple of times, if it says no processes found they are killed20:10
galatheasjackd - no process found ;)20:10
zequenceOnly for that one?20:11
zequencealso 'killall jackdbus'20:11
galatheasyep20:11
galatheasnow both20:11
zequenceretry qjackctl20:11
galatheasruns... but a lot of xrun errors ;)20:12
zequenceok, then it's running now20:12
zequenceI would use 3 periods for buffer instead of two20:12
zequenceI hear it is better for USB20:12
zequenceAlso, USB is not the most reliable for low latency, so you may have to settle for fairly high latency20:13
zequenceFor that a realtime kernel could help20:13
zequenceBut, Ubuntu doesn't have one20:13
zequencegalatheas: Probably you were opening different applications in different order, and because there are like 2-3 different kinds of jack, one can get stuck and stop the others20:14
galatheasframes ... 32? ok?20:14
zequencegalatheas: No, that's very, very low20:14
olinuxx:)20:14
galatheas128? ^^ or more?20:14
zequencegalatheas: Yes, I would say so20:14
zequenceFor some PCI cards on some systems, even 16 may work20:15
zequenceBut, I would not think so for USB20:15
olinuxxI was just at the point of mentionning that :)20:15
galatheasok... looks good... no xrun errors...20:15
zequenceI typically use around 128/256 for live processing, but in the studio where I do all my monitoring through hardware, I keep it up at at least 102420:20
zequenceIt's a world of difference when you are mixing something and need a lot of plugins20:20
zequenceI might even have it at 2048 for that reason20:20
galatheasok... just tested a bit... 128 runs pretty good... ^^ now just need some nice guitar amp plugins for ardour xD20:28
galatheasthanks zequence for your help.... :)20:29
zequencegalatheas: Good to hear20:29
olinuxxgalatheas, you might want to have a look to guitarix then20:33
zequenceAlso rakkarack20:33
zequenceOr, what was the name now again :)20:33
olinuxxahahah :)20:34
olinuxxsomething around those lines ;)20:34
zequencerakarrack, that was it20:35
galatheascurrently playing arround with it... need more... DRIVE xD20:37
olinuxx:)20:38
jbermudesAnyone use Ubuntu Studio with a 4k monitor?21:27
zequencejbermudes: Nope. You?22:09
jbermudeszequence: Yeah, I just got a 4k laptop and everything's so tiny. I've been slowly making adjustments based on random stack overflow recommendations but overall it seems like maybe xfce isn't as easy to scale things for hidpi screens22:24
studio-user348?22:52
studio-user348il y a quelqu'un ?22:53
olinuxxoui22:53
olinuxxstudio-user348, c'est un canal anglophone ici, tu peux utiliser l'anglais ?22:53
studio-user348pas vraiment ah ah ah !22:53
olinuxx(asking studio-user348 if he can use english)22:53
studio-user348un canal Français ?22:54
olinuxxpour ubuntu-studio spécifiquement, je ne crois pas. Attends, je demande.22:54
olinuxxIs there a dedicated ubuntu-studio FR channel zequence / sakrecoer  ?22:54
olinuxxI bet no but better asking before answering :)22:55
olinuxxsuper :)22:58
studio-user348ah ah ah ! c'est vrai je n'ai pas vu l'heure22:59
olinuxxstudio-user348, is saying that he founds in ubuntustudio something he never really findes on windows :)22:59
studio-user348yes22:59
olinuxxs/findes/finds22:59
studio-user348je me régale pour le son22:59
olinuxxstudio-user348, tu connais linuxmao ? Y'a pas mal d'utilisateur d'ubuntustudio là bas23:00
olinuxxet ils sont tous francophones23:00
olinuxxsakrecoer, I hope it's ok to send him to linuxmao to get answered by french speakers, if it's not, please tell me (and forgives me)23:01
studio-user348c'est un chat ? il y en a un ?23:01
studio-user348je trouverai bien ...23:01
olinuxxde rien, content d'avoir pu aider studio-user34823:03
olinuxxbon redémarrage :)23:03
studio-user348merci )23:03
