Doc-SaintlyHello. I have my computer hooked up to my TV. If I turn it on with the HDMI connected to the TV, but the TV off, the screen will always show black and not respond. If I restart the computer while the TV is on, the screen works fine.07:05
Doc-SaintlyI'm guessing it's a problem with detection / configuration of the screen. Is there a way to make it automatically fix this? Or even a way to do it manually without restarting?07:05
flocculantDoc-Saintly: xfce 1110707:08
ubottubugzilla.xfce.org bug 11107 in Xfsettingsd "xfsettingsd resets TV mode to NULL on power cycle" [Critical,Reopened] https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1110707:08
flocculantI didn't get anywhere with patches there - but I did have success creating a script (comment 48) and having that in startup07:10
flocculantobviously need to make sure of your output07:10
Doc-Saintlyflocculant: thanks, checking it out.07:12
Doc-SaintlySeems surprising it hasn't been fixed through an apt-get upgrade uet07:12
Doc-Saintlyyet*07:12
flocculantwell that'd only happen if there was a released fix :)07:12
Doc-Saintly:\ it seems like a pretty big deal to just let it sit like that07:16
flocculantDoc-Saintly: maybe so07:17
Doc-Saintlyanyway, xrandr is saying "Can't Open Display"07:20
Doc-Saintlyeven as sudo07:20
Doc-Saintlymm, bleh. I guess back to restarting my computer each time. Really annoying.07:28
Doc-Saintlythanks for the help flocculant07:28
flocculantDoc-Saintly: sorry - wandered off07:29
flocculantnot sure why xrandr says that - I assume that currently you can see it07:29
Doc-Saintlyflocculant: using TeamViewer I can see the screen07:29
Doc-Saintlyand it's running fine, albeit at the wrong resolution (compared to TV resolution)07:30
flocculantno idea about that thing :)07:30
Doc-Saintlywell, let's ignore that and just focus on the video card and that it works :)07:30
flocculantmaybe restart it - look at xrandr again07:30
Doc-Saintlyhow do I tell xubuntu to just restart the display / reconfigure things.07:30
Doc-SaintlyI'm really tired of having to do a restart on these things. it's a media server PC, so it shuts down all my servers when I have to do this just to get the display to work07:31
flocculantDoc-Saintly: yup I understand - I had the same thing - sort of07:31
Doc-Saintlywould changing distros help?07:32
Doc-SaintlyI can't stand the god awful GUI that Ubuntu uses by default now. Worst decision ever ~>~07:32
flocculant:)07:33
flocculantI went somewhere else - but my issue was a pc *just* serving the tv - doesn't do anything else07:33
Doc-Saintlyso how did you solve it? Just switched distro for the PC TV?07:34
flocculantyup07:34
Doc-Saintly:\ is there a clean way to do that without doing a fresh install?07:35
flocculantusing openelec - it's been up for months now07:35
Doc-Saintlywell, need to restart which will bump me out of here. Thanks again for the help :)07:36
flocculantno - had to reinstall it - but I obviously only had that07:36
