Doc-Saintly | Hello. I have my computer hooked up to my TV. If I turn it on with the HDMI connected to the TV, but the TV off, the screen will always show black and not respond. If I restart the computer while the TV is on, the screen works fine. | 07:05 |

Doc-Saintly | I'm guessing it's a problem with detection / configuration of the screen. Is there a way to make it automatically fix this? Or even a way to do it manually without restarting? | 07:05 |
flocculant | Doc-Saintly: xfce 11107 | 07:08 |
ubottu | bugzilla.xfce.org bug 11107 in Xfsettingsd "xfsettingsd resets TV mode to NULL on power cycle" [Critical,Reopened] https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11107 | 07:08 |
flocculant | I didn't get anywhere with patches there - but I did have success creating a script (comment 48) and having that in startup | 07:10 |
flocculant | obviously need to make sure of your output | 07:10 |
Doc-Saintly | flocculant: thanks, checking it out. | 07:12 |
Doc-Saintly | Seems surprising it hasn't been fixed through an apt-get upgrade uet | 07:12 |
Doc-Saintly | yet* | 07:12 |
flocculant | well that'd only happen if there was a released fix :) | 07:12 |
Doc-Saintly | :\ it seems like a pretty big deal to just let it sit like that | 07:16 |
flocculant | Doc-Saintly: maybe so | 07:17 |
Doc-Saintly | anyway, xrandr is saying "Can't Open Display" | 07:20 |
Doc-Saintly | even as sudo | 07:20 |
Doc-Saintly | mm, bleh. I guess back to restarting my computer each time. Really annoying. | 07:28 |
Doc-Saintly | thanks for the help flocculant | 07:28 |
flocculant | Doc-Saintly: sorry - wandered off | 07:29 |
flocculant | not sure why xrandr says that - I assume that currently you can see it | 07:29 |
Doc-Saintly | flocculant: using TeamViewer I can see the screen | 07:29 |
Doc-Saintly | and it's running fine, albeit at the wrong resolution (compared to TV resolution) | 07:30 |
flocculant | no idea about that thing :) | 07:30 |
Doc-Saintly | well, let's ignore that and just focus on the video card and that it works :) | 07:30 |
flocculant | maybe restart it - look at xrandr again | 07:30 |
Doc-Saintly | how do I tell xubuntu to just restart the display / reconfigure things. | 07:30 |
Doc-Saintly | I'm really tired of having to do a restart on these things. it's a media server PC, so it shuts down all my servers when I have to do this just to get the display to work | 07:31 |
flocculant | Doc-Saintly: yup I understand - I had the same thing - sort of | 07:31 |
Doc-Saintly | would changing distros help? | 07:32 |
Doc-Saintly | I can't stand the god awful GUI that Ubuntu uses by default now. Worst decision ever ~>~ | 07:32 |
flocculant | :) | 07:33 |
flocculant | I went somewhere else - but my issue was a pc *just* serving the tv - doesn't do anything else | 07:33 |
Doc-Saintly | so how did you solve it? Just switched distro for the PC TV? | 07:34 |
flocculant | yup | 07:34 |
Doc-Saintly | :\ is there a clean way to do that without doing a fresh install? | 07:35 |
flocculant | using openelec - it's been up for months now | 07:35 |
Doc-Saintly | well, need to restart which will bump me out of here. Thanks again for the help :) | 07:36 |
flocculant | no - had to reinstall it - but I obviously only had that | 07:36 |
Mark_D | Anybody knows why xfce4-mixer is missing in Xenial ? | 14:10 |
KeyboardNotFound | I have xubuntu 15.10 how can I upgrade to 16.04 without reinstalling ? | 14:34 |
