altker128Is there a build of Firefox for Ubuntu-Touch?21:08
Acou_Bassi dnt think so - only the ARM one for running in libertine21:11
dobeyno, there isn't a build designed for the phone interface. the tablet has it installed by default in the legacy apps container though21:11
Acou_Bassthe stock browser is pretty nice anyway ;D i like it21:12
Acou_Bassobviously not as featured as desktop firefox but which phone browser is?21:12
dobeythe "firefox mobile" tree could probably be built, and a package made, but i'd suspect it is quite a bit of work to do21:13
Acou_Bassyou mean, the android version? or the old-timey Fennec version?21:14
dobeyi mean whatever. firefox is open source :)21:14
altker128Well, the idea if one gets Firefox with desktop capability is the ability to use plugins...like noscript ;)21:14
kaisozHi21:23
Paddy_NIYikes http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2016/05/bq-m10-ubuntu-tablet-review-crazy-slow22:17
Acou_Bass;(22:21
Paddy_NII do think that these devices should be sold with a strong emphasis on the words "Early adopters, Unfinished/Experimental and possibly Developer Edition" being used as liberally as possible so as to not create a bad impression on the uninitiated22:24
Acou_Bassim watching a couple videos of people using it... doesnt look any slower than it is on my nexus 422:26
Acou_Basswhich is completely usable22:26
Paddy_NIAcou_Bass, That video makes it look terrible, however I have a bq Aquarius E4.5 that I flashed with Android lollipop a while back and it ran reasonably well on that22:28
Paddy_NII have never not been able to get Ubuntu Touch back on since22:28
popeyhttps://shkspr.mobi/blog/2016/05/the-ubuntu-tablet-a-review-of-the-aquaris-m10-ubuntu-edition/22:28
Paddy_NI:-(22:28
popeythats another terrible, but honest review from an Ubuntu user22:29
popeyWe need to take this feedback on board and fix the issues22:29
popeyand not ship devices with stuff like this22:29
Paddy_NIpopey, Exactly what I was thinking22:29
Paddy_NIThat is why I mentioned those words above22:29
Paddy_NIPerhaps something with less negative connotations22:30
Paddy_NIDeveloper Edition I think22:30
mhannesince you are talking about aquaris devices, forgive me if i ask again: anybody know if its possible - or planned - to get ubuntu touch on an E5 4G?22:30
Paddy_NImhanne, It runs on the E5 so I don't see why not22:30
Paddy_NIUnlock the bootloader if necessary22:31
mhannewell, that's what i thought when i bought it.. but turns out the 4G version is "vegetalte" and i can only find ubuntu for "vegetahd"22:31
Paddy_NImhanne, Did you try flashing it?22:31
mhanneyes, it says "Can't boot recovery image"22:32
=== salem_ is now known as _salem
popeywe dont have an image for that device22:32
popeyno idea if it even has the same soc22:32
mhanneand only if i set --device to vegetahd, otherwise it says Device is |MSM8916|22:32
popeyyou might need to sort the partitioning first22:33
popeyyou'd need the tool from bq and a scatter file22:33
popeybut again, no idea if the hd image would work on the lte, there may be significant internal differences22:33
Paddy_NIOh I see there are a few variants of the E522:34
mhanneah. that's the other thing.. the bq page doesn't accept my S/N for that...22:34
mhanneso i guess it's just not intended to be able to install ubuntu on it :/22:34
Acou_Basswhile we're on the subject (or not...) - can anyone link me a slimport cable they use with a nexus 4, so i can be 100% sure its not my phone thats causing convergence to not work for me?22:34
popeysure Acou_Bass22:34
popeyhttps://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00F44PA5M22:35
popeyi own that cheapo one22:35
popeyany slimport one should work22:35
Acou_Basshmm22:35
Acou_Bassyep, i think my phones borked then22:35
popeymhanne: we support very specific devices22:35
Acou_BassxD22:35
popeybummer22:35
Paddy_NIpopey, I must pick your brain tomorrow if you are available, I ended up getting the LG G5 so I am quite keen on getting Ubuntu Touch back on my E4.5. Was unable to achieve this previously some months ago with the help from various people here possible including yourself...22:36
Paddy_NII will keep the faith :-)22:36
popeyhttp://askubuntu.com/questions/602035/how-do-i-use-ubuntu-device-flash-with-the-bq-aquaris-e4-5-and-aquaris-e522:36
popeythats the "canonical" page22:37
Acou_Bassi can *sometimes* get my monitor to pick up on it - but i have to jiggle the chord and do that thing where you holdit in such a stupid position that any attempt to put it down disconnects it22:37
popeynote the guy who replied runs the team who do porting, so knows his stuff ㋛22:37
Paddy_NIpopey, Cool thanks :-)22:37
Acou_Bassand not had anyone whos been willing to fix it yet, because they just plug it into a laptop and go 'look, USB works fine! whatcha talkin' bout'22:37
popeyAcou_Bass: what kind of display?22:38
Acou_Basswell its a HDMI TV22:39
Acou_Bassive tried a couple of slimport cables but the one im using now is some fancy one that cost me like £20 so it better bloody not be the cable22:39
Acou_Bassim at least 90% sure its the USB port in my phone thats loose... but connecting it to a PC for the most part works (it sometimes dc's randomly, and only works with certain cables)22:42
popeyIt's pretty normal for the usb port to go on devices22:44
popeyI had to strip down a tablet to replace the usb port board recently22:44
Acou_Bassyep, thats why i quit using my ol' faithful n900 :P yanked the cable too hard one say and out came the port22:45
popeyawww, n900...22:46
Acou_Bassyeah, ive still got it... sometimes i boot it up and fiddle with it just for old times sake...22:46
popey:)22:46
popeyI never had one, looked longingly at it22:46
Acou_Bassstill works fine, ive got a spare battery and an external charger22:46
popeybut couldn't bring myself to buy one22:46
popeystill covet them when i see them22:46
Acou_Basshonestly ubuntu touch has it all covered, except the hardware kb ;D22:47
Acou_Bassand the IR/radio transmitter i suppose if youre into that22:48
Acou_Bassim really impressed still at how the maemo.org community just picked it up when nokia ditched it.. that phone still gets updates even now22:50
Paddy_NIpopey, I both understand and feel confused by his anger22:55
Paddy_NIpopey, Terence did know what he was buying in to right?22:55
ahoneybunpopey worked with openweathermap api?23:06
talonzi run archlinux on my n900 it doesnt get much on time no but its still sitting here staring at me on my desk ... hard to let such a great device go23:09
Acou_Bassyeah i ran arch on mine, though i ran it off an SD not off the main memory, the main was reserved for maemo23:11
talonzyeah i dont have a wm any more just console its good for that23:12
Acou_Basshehe thats a nice idea, have a li'l SSH client ;D23:13
talonzyou can run a samba share on it i had it running with a heap of mp3's on it for my sonos setup to play music23:14
talonzwhich was awesome23:14
Acou_Bass;D awesome too23:15
talonzi got an aquaponics system that i want to automate a little more with some sensors and stuff i know there are some linux apps out there to do that im thinking of using my n900 for that if possible23:16
* lpotter still has n900 sitting in a box23:21
Acou_Basshehe23:21
talonznice lpotter23:21
lpotterhad qtopia on it for a while23:22
lpotterback when I was community manager for qtopia23:23
talonzqtopia is qt extended right ?23:25
popeyahoneybun: not personally. examples in the weather app code :)23:28
lpotterya, same thing, different marketing name23:28
ahoneybunpopey wayyyyyyyyyyyyy to ahead of me23:28
ahoneybunI need something dead simple23:28
ahoneybunI do have the code downloaded23:28
