administradorHi. I am using Lubuntu 14.04 64bits. So, all of a sudden Pcmanfm did not launch, I reset the panel and stuff I could find in the internet and now in the menu I only have a run and logout option, I am in Lubuntu Netbook edition since it is the only DE I could login, not LXDE or Openbox I could login, How do I reset all Lubuntu?01:20
aidrocsidAny of y'all know the difference between Lubuntu and Peppermint? Is it just pre-installed programs?03:12

stairsandflowershello!  i use a latin american keyboard layout, with Ñ key included, which is working. since upgrading to 16.04, the key beside the letter P, which allows for typing accented vowels, does not work. pressing it + a vowel doesn't return á, é, í, ó or ú, just the vowel itself. how can i re-enable the dead key? there is no "latin american, with dead keys" option in my keyboard settings. apologies for such a noob question21:52

pod_ugh, i need some help to sway me back to lubuntu :s23:08
pod_i thought i would try mint, and i'm not liking the cinammon or xcfe and feeling like i should jsut re-do it with lubuntu23:09
n-iCereinstall23:11
pod_you think so? :D23:11
pod_i miss the days of old with fvwm, mwm, etc on sun sparcs23:11
pod_also23:12
pod_is it just me, or is firefox jsut a steaming pile?23:12
pod_i'm 41yrs old and finally bought my own computer (always had work computers)23:12
pod_and got a 6th gen core i5, 8gb ram, 2 x 1TB HDD and 1 512gb SSD23:13
pod_asus, for $45023:13
n-iCethat's just great23:13
pod_lol23:13
n-iCelubuntu will fly there23:13
pod_i normally use chrome23:13
pod_but i loaded up firefox23:13
pod_and just go to some regular website like stupid cnn.com and firefox is back to it's usualy tricks of taking up 110% cpu time23:14
pod_and i feel like i'm on my old shitty laptop23:14
pod_:/23:14
n-iCeI have never used firefox23:14
n-iCeso no idea23:14
n-iCeI use chrome as well23:14
pod_but yeah, thinking of just going back to lubuntu, i have tried mint for the last couple days once i got past u?efi boot issues23:15
n-iCejust disable safe boot23:15
n-iCeshould not affect uefi I think.23:15
n-iCeRight now I'm using Ubuntu.23:15
pod_my main issue was never-ending pcieport error messages23:16
n-iCeWanted to try 16.04 LTS Ubuntu.23:16
pod_i spent many hours trying to figure it out, googling, on chat etc23:16
pod_nobody could help23:16
n-iCeabout what23:16
pod_lemme get a paste of the error23:16
pod_pcieport 0000:00:1c:6: PCIe Bus Error: severity=Corrected, type=Physical Layer, id=00e6(Receiver ID)23:17
n-iCebut where and why you get that23:17
pod_erors like that, neverending, i couldn't boot23:17
pod_i supressed them with adding in boot command option "pci=nomsi"23:17
n-iCecannot you disable it on bios'23:17
pod_but it turned out there was a bios/efi option for "pci-express power management" or something like that, which i disabled23:18
pod_and that got rid of it23:18
n-iCeGood23:18
pod_but all my googling, chatting, nobody came up with solution23:18
n-iCebut finally you got it working.23:18
n-iCeThat's good.23:18
pod_but anyways, yes, i got it working23:18
n-iCeAnyway with that laptop, you can use any distro you want.23:18
pod_but thinking i want to go back to lubuntu23:18
pod_oh, my asus is a desktop23:19
pod_can't stand laptops, and have no need for one - i still have an old i3 laptop23:19
n-iCeoh good23:19
n-iCe:)23:19
n-iCeI can't use a desktop.23:19
pod_well, i do need a laptop, but jsut for car stuff23:19
n-iCeCan't live without my lap.23:19
pod_i'm a VW guy, and i need something to plug into the car to talk to the ecu23:20
pod_but for the house, i just want a nice simple fast desktop that i can use to play media and all my other computing needs23:20
n-iCelubuntu should work.23:21
n-iCeall desktops are gonna be fast in that hardware.23:21
pod_thats what i was using for the last couple years23:21
pod_for work and then personal23:21
n-iCeI use Ubuntu 16.04 in a i5 3gen 8Gb RAM 250HD23:22
pod_n-iCe: except when using firefox lol23:22
n-iCeAnd is extremadly fast23:22
n-iCepod_: let me open firefox to check23:22
n-iCehold on23:22
pod_do it23:22
n-iCedon't think is that way23:22
pod_load up firefox23:22
pod_go to cnn.com23:22
pod_then run top23:22
n-iCeok right now I am using 3.2GB RAM23:22
pod_every linux i've used over the years, firefox has always been a raging bloat23:23
pod_even this fresh install of mint 17.323:23
n-iCeloading cnn23:23
n-iCeand RAM went to 3.5GB23:23
pod_don't forget to read all the important news !23:23
n-iCe300MB23:23
n-iCeis not that much23:23
pod_what about cpu usage?23:23
n-iCedoes not go up than 9%23:24
n-iCenot any of my 4 proccesors23:24

n-iCeAnd I have chrome with 4 tabs, facebook, whatsapp yahoo and google translate23:24
pod_1835 gl        20   0 1689820 186744  85392 S   3.3  2.3   2:20.17 cinnamon     1272 root      20   0 1359460 245724 227864 S   2.3  3.0   1:22.45 Xorg23:24

n-iCenever checked that before23:25
n-iCehaha23:25
pod_ 7055 gl        20   0 1419636 432676  91316 S  73.2  5.4   0:37.37 firefox23:26
pod_ 7134 gl        20   0  974280 244652  56784 R  57.2  3.0   0:15.14 plugin-con+23:26
pod_load up firefox, go to cnn, click on a link23:26
pod_and now my computer feels like a turd23:26
n-iCeweird23:26
pod_firefox taking 73% cpu, plugin-container taking 57%23:27
pod_and slow as molasses23:27
pod_so dumb23:27
n-iCewell, download lubuntu23:27
pod_anyways... i haven't used firefox in ages, but mint came with firefox23:27
pod_so i was using it for a bit until i got my bearings23:27
pod_my linux install-fu is a bit rusty23:28
pod_but if i install lubuntu over what my current system23:28
n-iCewould be great23:28
pod_it won't delete what i've got im my /home/gl diretory right?23:28
pod_gl is my initals23:28
pod_*initials23:29
n-iCeWell youc an chose not to do it23:29
n-iCeif you installed in a different partition23:29
n-iCeif now, will be deleted23:29
n-iCenot*23:29
pod_ugh no i didn't23:29
n-iCeuse the live cd, create a partition23:29
n-iCeand move all there23:29
pod_i can do that23:29
n-iCeif you don't have a usb or a external hard disk23:29
pod_i have 2 1TB drives23:30
n-iCethen don't see the problem :p23:30
pod_i only installed the linux on the 512gb SSD23:30
pod_i wanted my two regular HDDs to just be like extra disks23:30
pod_lxde doesn't have transparency in windows.. iirc23:32
pod_that was the fanciest feature i kinda liked23:33
n-iCelxde is really basic23:34
n-iCethat's why is so fast23:34
n-iCetry ubuntu mate instead23:34
n-iCeor xubuntu if you want fancy stuff23:34
pod_i like basic23:34
pod_i have an '82 rabbit i restored, but put a turbo-diesel engine in it23:35
pod_still basic. love it23:35
pod_lubuntu has a newer kernel than mint?23:37
n-iCeI don't use mint23:40
n-iCe4.4.0-22 is what lubuntu use23:40
n-iCeMint should use the same, since it is Ubuntu based.23:40
pod_System:    Host: gl Kernel: 3.19.0-32-generic x86_64 (64 bit)23:44
pod_??23:44
pod_thats what inxi -S gives me23:44
n-iCeuname -r23:45
pod_i tried that23:46
pod_also. gives me the same 3.1923:46
n-iCethat's old23:46
pod_thats nuts23:46
pod_why would the newest version of mint, which is supposedly super popular use such an old kernel?23:47
pod_ughhh23:47
n-iCedo, sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade23:47
n-iCe:)23:47
pod_oh yeah, i could do that...23:47
pod_i didn't even think of that23:48
pod_i jsut figured, the spankin newest version of mint which i downloaded 2 days ago should have a newer kernel than that23:48
pod_bbiaf... lubuntu downloading slow23:50
