[13:56] <[Saint]> 'do-release-upgrade -d' yields no fruit for yakkety. [13:57] <[Saint]> is there something blindingly obvious that I am missing? [14:04] [Saint]: Nope. 16.10 isn't yet in the meta-release file, so do-release-upgrade won't prompt you. You'll need to change your sources.list manually and run a dist/full-upgrade yourself. [14:04] <[Saint]> Aha, right. Thank you. Truth told I just jumped the shark and did that anyway. [14:04] <[Saint]> Good to know I was on the right track. [14:05] Pici: it is actually, I just checked, well in meta-release-development [14:05] oh? [14:05] not in the -lts version of course [14:05] [Saint]: what TJ- said then. [14:05] so maybe the config needs altering from lts-only to allow all [14:05] <[Saint]> Hm? [14:05] TJ-: wasn't there when I looked the other day, I guess I should have rechecked. [14:05] <[Saint]> So I do...? [14:06] modify /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades to say normal not lts. [14:06] <[Saint]> still good with batched editing sources.list by hand, or, is there a simpler method? [14:06] and then do-release-upgrade -d will wrok [14:07] <[Saint]> ah - is there any functional benefit to doing that over just firing sed at sources.list? [14:07] <[Saint]> I have around a dozen machines to do this on. [14:08] the release-upgrade specifies a new UpgradeTool to fetch [14:08] At this time? probably not. But do-release-upgrade does have the ability to run special scripts that might not be possible within the deb framework. [14:08] It also does some stuff to PPAs [14:08] see the file it actually reads on the server (scroll to the end) http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/meta-release-development [14:09] <[Saint]> there we go - I got it by editing /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades and doing s/lts/normal/g [14:10] <[Saint]> thank you Pici and TJ- [14:31] <[Saint]> oooop - I forgot about the bajillion "foo is modified from the original foo - what do you want to do about it?" prompts. [14:31] <[Saint]> I thought this would be able to be done with limited manual intervention.
