=== rodlogic is now known as Guest22211
RoyKpatdk-lap: I wonder how well that scales01:16
RoyK@bindi also, of course01:17
patdk-lapya, me also01:20
patdk-lapI also tend to monitor a lot of custom stuff01:20
patdk-lapand can't tell how that handles multible systems01:21
patdk-lapbut I have never seen someone monitor a whole network of systems using that01:21
patdk-lapI do a lot of realtime monitoring with munin though01:21
RoyKmunin isn't realtime01:25
RoyKand munin sucks rather hard on scalability01:25
=== jgrimm is now known as jgrimm-afk
RoyKpatdk-lap: btw, where are you located again?01:26
patdk-lapheh?01:29
patdk-lapmunin supports realtime01:29
patdk-lapnot a single module it comes with, supports it though01:29
patdk-lapyou have to download or make your own01:29
patdk-lapD.C.01:29
RoyKok01:30
RoyK.no01:30

sarnoldpowerdns recursor can server from an /etc/hosts-style file06:20
xibalbalooking it up, but that sounds beautiful06:21
sarnoldhttps://doc.powerdns.com/md/recursor/settings/#etc-hosts-file06:22
xibalbaexcellent, all done setting it up06:26
xibalbathis is perfectly simple for a home lab06:26
xibalbathank you sarnold06:27
sarnoldand it also runs something like 30% of the DNS traffic in the world :)06:27
xibalbathats nuts, i've never heard of it06:27
xibalbaat the ISP I was at we only used Bind for Recursive and Authoritative06:28
xibalbanot on the same boxes06:28
sarnold#powerdns on irc.oftc.net has the real experts in case you run into anything06:28
Goughi - is this something that would work on 16.04 ? https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-configure-a-mail-server-using-postfix-dovecot-mysql-and-spamassassin06:54
xibalbajust grab zimbra06:54
Gougxibalba, will it work if I want to create more inboxes for a certain domain ? and have automatic emaling out like for example when uers on my site reset passwords ?07:01
xibalbawww.zimbra.com07:02
Gougis that a yes ?07:07
xibalbahmm what should i do as a lab in linux to try and accomplish. got this fresh esxi box w/enough ram to run a few vms07:16
bekksInstall Ubuntu instead?07:17
sarnoldyou could try lxd migrations from guest to guest07:23
bekkslive migrations, I suspect.07:24
sarnoldI knew I a word07:24
xibalbai think im going to play with docker some and get a feel for it07:24
arcskycan anyone be nice and help me out with my sources.list http://pastebin.com/WEZjhvQN08:33
bekksDid you read line 7?08:34
arcskybekks: yes but i dont understand it08:36
bekksWhich part of line 7 is unclear to you then?08:36
arcskyall08:37
arcskysignature issue08:37
bekksSo which part of "The repository is not updated and the previous index files will be used. " is unclear to you?08:37
arcskywhy not help instead of give me hints08:38
sarnoldarcsky: can you get this file manually? http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/trusty-security/InRelease08:38
arcskysarnold: nice where do i save it?08:39
sarnoldarcsky: anywhere; once you've gt it, run gpg on it, save it again anywhere, and see what the signatures look like..08:40
sarnoldoh nce, if you run gpg with --verify it doesn't require yet another filename: gpg --verify /tmp/InRelease08:41
arcsky gpg --verify InRelease08:44
arcskybekks: sarnold http://pastebin.com/LTenpNt308:51
sarnoldarcsky: are you using a proxy like apt-cacher-ng or squid-deb-proxy or are you behind a transparent proxy at your ISP or something similar?08:51
sarnoldarcsky: do you have any errors in your dmesg that might indicate e.g. dying hard drive or bad memory?08:53
sarnoldarcsky: hey wait a minute; that shows "Fetched 83 B" and your previous paste had "InRelease [83 B]"08:58
sarnoldarcsky: just read those files :) find out what those 83 bytes actuall are08:58
sarnoldtime for me to bail, I expect that'll be enough to find the problem anyway :)08:59
sarnoldhave fun08:59

FManTropyxpostfix doesn't work14:20
FManTropyxhalp14:20
patdk-lapsince when?14:20
patdk-lappostfix always works14:20
FManTropyxsince I installed it :P14:20
=== not_phunyguy is now known as phunyguy
RoyKFManTropyx: did you configure it? ;)14:21
FManTropyxit tries to send with "<username>@<localhostname>" instead of the FQDN, even though I configured the external hostname14:21
FManTropyxthe /etc/mailname file contains the FQDN, but what did I screw up?14:22
patdk-lapand you have postconf -n, posted somewhere?14:22

FManTropyxcan someone tell me what I need to do to make postfix send mail out with not 'root@ubuntu-512mb-fra1-01' but rather 'root@c128.z80.guru' in the From field?16:14

UbuntuDudeI've installed a guest ubuntu server in a host ubuntu OS, the problem is with the network configuration I was able to bridge the guest nic to the host wireless card (because I don't have wired connection).. the problem is being unable to authenticate the guest to pass through the access point webApp in order to access the internet ... are there any suggestions to solve this issue?17:41

FManTropyxso, nobody here knows that about postfix? :)18:20
tewardFManTropyx: ideally you'll be setting the "From" address in the email message18:37
tewardif it's an automated message, then you have to figure out what's sending that message and adjust accordingly (usually they tend to default to the hostname of the machine)18:37
tewardi'm not a postfix expert, but address rewriting also comes to mind18:38
FManTropyxI tested with the 'mail' command18:42
tewardFManTropyx: i'm not familiar with your setup, but the way I've always tested my postfix is 'sendmail' from that server18:45
tewardnamely, http://paste.ubuntu.com/16417887/18:46
tewardthat sends with a From: field detailing what address to send with18:47
teward(that doesn't work on my local home network postfix, though, because that routes through a GMail account for sending mail)18:48
tewardFManTropyx: where that isn't working, and you can't define the "From" field, then you have to use some type of rewriting to have Postfix handle one address and change it to the one you want to send from18:52
tewardalternatively, change the hostname on the box (and where that's not an option, well...(18:52
FManTropyxI'd expect postfix to do it on itself, as the correct domain name is set and there is a config entry for it even20:15
asdf0hi :) quick question: i set up a new home server with ubuntu-server and enabled samba (using the same config file i had on my previous installation so I'm sure nothing is wrong with that, testparm confirms). i see the share on my windows computer in the network, but i cant access it, it says the server doesnt accept the connection20:17
asdf0is there some security thing i have to enable first to let outside computers access?20:17
asdf0allowed ip range in smb.conf matches what the computer has20:17

jrwrenyou could get very crafty with curl.  -b to set a cookies file and then parse the html yourself, figure out to where you need to post the form AP auth, and make more curl calls.22:13
=== rodlogic is now known as Guest7894
UbuntuDudejrwren: that is not possible with AP using md5 token to verify the client. at least not for me with all the googling I did to do this.23:37
UbuntuDudeI've even went through the md5.js and login.html files to try to do something about it but I couldn't23:38
