GeekDudeI have 14.04 (desktop) on a machine and it seems whatever I do it keeps turning the screen off after a few minutes. It's in "presentation mode", power settings are all set to not turn off display, light-locker has been uninstalled03:30
GeekDudeIdeally I'd just update it to 16.04, but that's not an option at the moment03:31

Lucrecioussomeone solved "no wifi" bug in 16.04 easily??08:47
knobHello everybody... is there a forum or something of the sort I could post an error I am getting?   It's driving me crazy, and I think it's too much to drop into this #xubuntu12:57
SuperXfcewhat is your problem ?12:57
knome!pastebin | knob12:58
ubottuknob: For posting multi-line texts into the channel, please use http://paste.ubuntu.com | To post !screenshots use http://imgur.com/ !pastebinit to paste directly from command line | Make sure you give us the URL for your paste - see also the channel topic.12:58
knobBasically, I had 15.04, and Chromium installed.  Chromium would "act up" and stop redrawing what it had.  Everything else redrew fine (Firefox, terminals, etc).  So I tried Google Chrome.  Same problem.   So I then did a fresh install of 16.04 last week... and Google Chrome is still doing the same thing.12:59
knobThat's basically it... yet I don't know where do post more detailed information.13:00
knomeare you using chrome/chromium from a PPA or the main repositories?13:00
knobIf i reboot the computer, all is good.    It always happens when the computer comes back from a "lock" (LightLocker?)13:00
knobknob, Chrome I am using from... direct download from Google.  I didn't add the PPA.  (sorry, still a n00b linux user!)13:01
knobAny idea .... where I could post this?    I think a forum because it's up there for more time?13:19
knobAlternately, I thought the ubuntu forums themsleves?13:19
knomeindeed, xubuntu doesn't have any specific forums; you can use the ubuntu forums13:27
knomehaven't really heard that light-locker would affect chromium's rendering though13:28
knobknome, yes... it's something odd in my installation.   And oddly, this is a laptop, yet in  my workstation, I haven't seen the behaviour.13:36
knobWill post over in the ubuntu forums them.  It's all good until I have to reboot the laptop.   Thanks!!13:36

Walkfar60Hey folks! I'm looking fro help with WIFI hope this is the right channel?13:44
Walkfar60typo for13:44
cscfWalkfar60, if you are running Xubuntu, this is the right channel.13:44
Walkfar60Thankyou cscf :) Anyway my wifi / ethernet have problems which are causing my sound card to stutter/echo. My wifi card is a RTL8821AE 802.11ac and the ethernet is a RTL8101/2/6E. Any help please?13:47
cscfWalkfar60, audio stutters when?  When wifi is in use?13:48
cscfie, how do you know it is a problem with networking?13:49
Walkfar60cscf, Yes. When I say watch a video or play a game offline I have no problems. I was just looking at my syslog which seems to show problems.13:49
cscfWalkfar60, sounds like net & sound fighting over realtime priority.  How many cores do you have?13:50
Walkfar60cscf, 2 cores13:50
cscf!pastebin | Walkfar6013:50
ubottuWalkfar60: For posting multi-line texts into the channel, please use http://paste.ubuntu.com | To post !screenshots use http://imgur.com/ !pastebinit to paste directly from command line | Make sure you give us the URL for your paste - see also the channel topic.13:50
cscfPastebin this syslog13:51
Walkfar60cscf, Ok done that I think?13:54
cscfWalkfar60, link?13:54
Walkfar60Another problem is I can't update my kernel from 3.13.0-24-generic as my system becomes unstable.13:55
Walkfar60cscf, Link? Not sure what you mean. I used http://paste.ubuntu.com13:56
cscfWalkfar60, yes, and then you need to give us the link that it gave you, so we can see it.13:56
cscfWalkfar60, as the bot said: "Make sure you give us the URL for your paste"13:57
Walkfar60http://paste.ubuntu.com/16474914/13:58
cscfgreat13:58
cscfWalkfar60, now, which line did you see a problem in?13:59
cscfWalkfar60, how is your CPU and RAM usage during stuttering?14:00
Walkfar60cscf, Not really been paying attention to CPU / RAM sorry. As for problems in log see about line 131 in log.14:03
Walkfar60Am going to play a video in background now to check cpu /  ram usage...14:08
cscfWalkfar60, good, that will be useful.  Also, this thread suggests that a kernel update or backport may help: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=224516414:09
Walkfar60cscf, Ok when stutter occurs CPU jumps from about 17% up to 42% RAM remains constant.14:11
cscfWalkfar60, ok.  What is your kernel version?  And exactly what sort of instability prevented your kernel update?14:12
Walkfar60cscf, Am using 3.13.0-24-generic on i686, within 5-10 mins of updating kernel I get a message saying Linux has a problem and your system may become unstable or words to that affect. Am using Xubuntu 14.0414:15
Walkfar60Need to disconnect and reboot...14:30
knobHey guys, if anybody is interested, I just received an Insync 'for-free' link.  http://balboai.eocampaign.com/83b7829a-6c54-4e03-8ad5-391b168bbdcf/76361366-1b69-11e6-ad39-0a4287b2e8c5/a6defc1d-1b51-11e6-ad39-0a4287b2e8c5/link-click17:42
knobNo affiliation... yet somebody might find it useful!17:42
angel1604ltsexcuse me I have a little problem with ubuntu 16.04does not see me the bluetooth card on my laptop  hp 4540s19:04
nairwolfhi, when I log in in Xub 16.04, I see some 'screen blinking', have you ever seen that ? In fact, when there is the 'log in' window, I see my wallpaper in the background. Seems ok. But after the blinking, I see the default wallpaper, something blue.20:12
nairwolfAlso, if I try to write my password, during the blinking, it stops to record my password, and I need to re-type it. Have you experienced that ?20:13
imrhi, I'm using xfce and display settings is erroring out with 'you need xrandr 1.2' even though there is the latest x11-xserver-utils installed. what can I do?20:38
squintyimr, might want to check to see if libxrandr2 is installed as well as x11-server-utils21:02
imrokay, I'll try that21:03
imrboth are installed21:04
squintyimr, sure it's saying xrandr 1.2?21:10
squintyimr, or 2.1 which is libxrandr2 current version ofr 16.0421:11
squintyimr, libxrand2 is one of x11-xserver-utils dependencies21:13
imr"This system is using RandR 1.1. For the display settings to work version 1.2 is required at least'21:18
imris it because I'm using VNC?21:19
knomeimr, are you using PPAs?21:26
imrto install the stuff21:26
imr?21:27
imrI don't use PPAs atm21:27
knomeokay21:27
knomeand which xubuntu version are you running21:27
imrwell, I'm not running xubuntu, but I got sent here from #ubuntu21:28
imrbut I'm running 16.0421:28
knomeif you are wondering if it's because you are using vnc, have you tried without it?21:29
imrwell, I'm running on a cloud provider21:30
paolo__hi21:31
paolo__hi21:31
knomepaolo__, hello.21:31
imralthough there's probably an alternative like xrdp that I could try21:31
knomei guess the question is what you are trying to achieve - and after that, how you can achieve that with xrandr directly21:32
imrI'm using the realvnc server; so maybe the problem is that they don't support xrandr 1.2 or above21:33
knomemaybe21:33
knomewhen i use vnc, i prefer x11vnc myself21:34
squintyimr,  xrandr --version   should be 1.521:34
paolo__question about xfce:  I installed nautilus and made it the default file manager for directories, but the system uses still thunar to mount removable media and the desktop and this gives me some problems when moving or managing files...   I would like to remove thunar....   is it enough to replace 'thunar'  with  'nautilus'  in the file xfce4-session.xml ?  or do I need to change other settings ?21:35
knomepaolo__, if you don't want to use thunar at all, it would probably be best to simply remove it21:35
imrxrandr program version       1.5.021:36
imrServer reports RandR version 1.121:36
paolo__ok, I'll try that, thanks21:36
