=== Laurenzo_ is now known as Laurenzo [09:48] Hi, I need to replace XP with Lubuntu on a very old pc with a 1GB of ram. It's working fine, but it is randomly freezing with a lines on the screen. Then, I need to restart whole PC. Can someone help me with that? [10:25] not now that you left, no :/ [10:30] lubuntu 16.04 LTS seems unstable [16:38] Hello all. Can I ask for help? For some unknown reason - when I go into Synaptic Package Manager and click on "Repositories" - nothing happens. [16:44] james1138: do you have problems using apt-get? [16:47] nope [16:47] james1138: so you can update/upgrade just fine? [16:48] Yes wxl. The only thing I can think maybe the problem was installing ICECAT browser... which may added Trisquel PPA/dependiences. [16:51] james1138: which synaptics should have no problem with. you might try reinstalling it [16:52] james1138: the other thing you can try to do is to run synaptic on the command line and see if it gives you any more obvious errors [16:53] Starting Synaptic is no problem - just seeing the repositories or adding new PPA appears the issue. [16:53] james1138: that's what i'm saying to diagnose. any program run on the command line should give you additional output for debugging purposezx [16:53] s/zx/s [16:56] WARNING:root:could not open file '/etc/apt/sources.list' [16:56] Traceback (most recent call last): [16:56] File "/usr/bin/software-properties-gtk", line 101, in [16:56] app = SoftwarePropertiesGtk(datadir=options.data_dir, options=options, file=file) [16:57] app = SoftwarePropertiesGtk(datadir=options.data_dir, options=options, file=file) [16:57] sorry - File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/softwareproperties/gtk/SoftwarePropertiesGtk.py", line 98, in __init__ [16:57] SoftwareProperties.__init__(self, options=options, datadir=datadir) [16:58] File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/softwareproperties/SoftwareProperties.py", line 109, in __init__ [16:58] self.reload_sourceslist() [16:58] File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/softwareproperties/SoftwareProperties.py", line 599, in reload_sourceslist [16:58] ok [16:58] got it :) [16:58] There is a little more... [16:58] don't worry about it [16:59] ok... sorry [16:59] fyi: [16:59] !pastebin [16:59] For posting multi-line texts into the channel, please use http://paste.ubuntu.com | To post !screenshots use http://imgur.com/ !pastebinit to paste directly from command line | Make sure you give us the URL for your paste - see also the channel topic. [16:59] use that to do `stat /etc/apt/sources.list` [16:59] ahhh [17:00] Me rookie... [17:00] all good [17:04] I hope the answer does not involved backup and resintall everything. [17:04] it shouldn't [17:13] james1138: you got that pastebin for me? [17:14] Oh... sorry. stepped away... working on it right now... [17:14] np take your time. just wanted to make sure you weren't forgotten :) [17:15] Done. It is asking "download as text" - is that for me or you? [17:16] james1138: um. all i was saying is copy the result of `stat /etc/apt/sources.list` and paste them into pastebin and then put the url here [17:17] stat: cannot stat ‘/etc/apt/sources.list’: No such file or directory [17:17] oh! [17:17] THAT is a problem [17:17] it means that your repos are gone [17:17] what version are you running? [17:18] 14.04.4 kernal 4.5.2 [17:18] k lemme see what i can figure out here [17:19] Gone?! This old dog messed up big time! [17:20] hm [17:20] i have a theory [17:20] Anyway to rebuild file? [17:20] first, create the file with `sudo touch /etc/apt/sources.list` [17:21] then reinstall apt with `sudo apt-get --reinstall install apt` [17:21] then look to see if there's anything in /etc/apt/sources.list [17:21] you should have default stuff in there [17:22] Reinstallation of apt is not possible, it cannot be downloaded. [17:22] ok [17:22] let's try one other thing [17:23] `sudo dpkg-reconfigure apt` [17:23] File is there but empty [17:23] Processing triggers for libc-bin (2.19-0ubuntu6.8) ... [17:25] james1138@james1138-ThinkPad-T43:~$ [17:25] k [17:25] now is there anything in the file? [17:27] if not, i have another solution. you should have a saved version of it. this should fix it: `sudo cp /etc/apt/sources.list.save /etc/apt/sources.list` [17:27] Sources.lst file is still empty but sources.d folder has stuff in it. [17:28] cp: cannot stat ‘/etc/apt/sources.list.save’: No such file or directory [17:28] oh jeez what did you do :) [17:29] there's also this idea: http://askubuntu.com/a/192388 [17:32] Giving that a try [17:47] Still nothing but Y PPA Manager is showing repositories [18:18] hey [18:25] After a few Lubuntu 15.10 updates and a long term with out using pc, my dual boot laptop lubuntu 15.10/windows 10, keyboard dont work on login screen to insert password. On windows work perfectly. I tryed a usb lubuntu live persistent, but is same thing keyboard dont work. [18:45] hey al [18:45] anyone got a thinkpad here?
