clivejohow do I go about getting libdrumstick updated - https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libdrumstick ?10:39
clivejoI need 'drumstick-alsa>=1.0.1' to get this minuet to build10:41

IrcsomeBot<Clifford> Acheron88 yes they being migrated over to ddeb12:27
IrcsomeBot<Clifford> I forgot about that12:27
acheron88clivejo: I fixed that recent document shortcut problem for me anyway https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=363337#c114:34
ubottuKDE bug 363337 in Application Menu (Kicker) "Recent docs/history shortcuts in kicker/kickoff fail when clicked with "Could not find any application or handler..." error" [Normal,Unconfirmed]14:34
acheron88have no clue if making that change will break anything else the kio maintainers intended though.....14:35
IrcsomeBot<Clifford> Do you have the patch?14:51
acheron88nope. I just hacked a file after downloading the source and rebuilt the debs locally. just commented out the lines added by that partial diff from that commit14:55
acheron88I'm not certain doing that won't break something else, as the kde maintainer obviously wrote those lines for a reason14:57
acheron88I would imagine they will have a much better way to fix it14:58
clivejoacheron88: anyone from KDE commented on it?15:29
acheron88not yet. may email the people who made those commits on Monday, if it stays quiet on it over the weekend15:31
yotuxI was trying to make a package for the latest gnucash and was using auto-apt to resolve deps is there a better way to do this?16:05
huihuhHi, I just figured out why the "Send file via KDE Connect" in Dolphin is not working in Kubuntu 16.04 (tldr: it's a small typo in "kdeconnectsendfile.desktop"). Is there any way to report this to the maintainers without creating a new account on a bugtracker or joining a mailing list?16:17
clivejohuihuh: whats the file path and what is the typo?16:26
huihuhlong story short: in old versions a part of KDE Connect was called "kdeconnectfiletiemaction.so" which contains a typo. This file was renamed recently into the correct version, but somebody forgot to change the reference to it in this file is /usr/share/kservices5/kdeconnectsendfile.desktop In this desktop file there is the line X-KDE-Library=kdeco16:29
huihuhnnectfiletiemaction which should be changed to X-KDE-Library=kdeconnectfileitemaction16:29
huihuhso replacing the "ti" with "it" in this file fixes the problem for me16:30
clivejoah, yes I remember that typo in the install files16:34
yotuxwhat is the link about?16:38
clivejolink?16:38
yotuxstill failing .....16:39
clivejooh thats KCI16:39
yotuxokay and what does KCI do?16:39
clivejoKubuntu Continuous Integration 16:39
clivejoit grabs the lastest software from KDE git repo and packages it in LaunchPad(LP)16:40
yotuxokay I was reading about it16:42
clivejobut we are a bit behind at the moment and also moving our packaging to LP16:42
yotuxso when it sends a still failing flag that means that a dev needs to fix the package?16:42
clivejoyotux: in theory yes16:43
clivejokdepim is a beast to package16:43
clivejonot helped by it being split out into seperate packages16:44
yotuxsorry for all the questions try to learn and find a way to help. google is great but sometimes leaves me say okay I still don't understand16:44
clivejoyotux: not a problem, if I can answer, I will :)16:44
yotuxis there a tool to resolve deps from a source tar ball?16:45
clivejojust a quick look at breeze looks like they added two new files#16:45
clivejoyotux: I believe there is16:46
clivejobut I tend to just read the CMake files16:46
clivejoor even just build it in a pbuild environment16:47
clivejonote down what it complains about 16:47
yotuxfrom what I read one needs to run ./confgiure first them goto pbuild16:48
clivejoI find it easier to just package it up and throw it at pbuild16:49
yotuxlink: http://packaging.ubuntu.com/html/packaging-new-software.html16:51
yotuxso you goto step 6.2 directly?16:51
clivejomost software is already packaged16:52
acheron88that section is for software without already packaged versions in debian or ubuntu16:53

clivejoso I tend to go grab that packaging and update it16:54
huihuhæclivejo16:54
huihuh@clivejo: what would be the best way to report the problem about kde connect i mentioned above?16:54
clivejohuihuh: probably the mailing list16:54
huihuhok, will try it there, thx!16:55
acheron88yotux: ditto as clivejo says when I'm making a few 'modifications' to a package for my own use16:55
clivejohuihuh: https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kdeconnect16:56
clivejohuihuh: we could correct it in packaging for 16.04LTS, so if you have LP could you open a bug please? 16:58
yotuxacheron88: I see that the package in the repo is older than what is released so I was trying to package and have it updated into the repos16:58
huihuh@clivejo which package? there is kdeconnect and kdeconnect-plasma which seem to do the same thing? I guess that kdeconnect-plasma is supposed to replace kdeconnect?16:59
clivejokdeconnect is KDE4 and kdeconnect-plasma is Plasma516:59
huihuhok, then I will add a bug report to kdeconnect-plasma later tonight, thx for the help17:00
clivejoI don’t know why they are linked, that was a decision someone else made 17:00
clivejohuihuh: have you a LP account?17:01
huihuh@clivejo no yet, but since I plan to participate a bit more in kde/kubuntu in the future I will make an account later. first I have to do some shopping and cooking and all that kind of stuff ;)17:02
clivejocan you sub me to that bug when you do?17:04
huihuhwill do!17:04
acheron88yotux: the version number listed for gnucash 1:2.6.12-1 indicates it's an unmodified sync from the Debian version17:07
yotuxokay17:07
acheron88so to update in ubuntu would need any new version from debian into the ubuntu repos17:07
acheron88or debian updated and then to ubuntu17:08
acheron88I think?17:08
yotuxso just so I understand 1: means debain, and the -1 is ubuntu17:09
mitya571: means epoch, -1 is Debian revision17:10
acheron88the 1: is an epoch, used in both debian and ubuntu17:10
acheron88-1 is debian version17:11
yotuxokay17:11
acheron88then ubuntu appends ubuntu and a number after if the modify what debain did17:11
acheron88*debian17:12
clivejoyotux: you should check to see if debian have the latest version packaged17:14
acheron88clivejo: the plasma kicker/kickoff dev has cc'd that bug I reported to the author of that commit17:14
acheron88so I hope they can give a fix that can go into FW 5.22 or plasma17:15
clivejohopefully they publish a fix and we can patch it17:15
acheron88latest gnucash in debian https://packages.debian.org/stretch/gnucash17:17

clivejowould you mind trying a test install of apps?19:27
DarinMillernp. Box currently has no PPA's. Just test apps?19:28
clivejoyes please19:28
clivejojust testing installablity19:28

clivejoI know19:30

soee*hog19:31
DarinMillerinstalling now 300+ packages....19:36
darinclivejo: https://paste.kde.org/pket1gryh20:13
DarinMillerclivejo: none of the app install errors seemed related to the build fails.  Were error something you were anticipating?20:27
IrcsomeBot<Clifford> Does kontact load?20:47
clivejoDarinMiller: those errors are probably due to copied FW we needed to make it build20:50
DarinMillerclivejo: Totally killed the install.  Want me to re-install and add fm staging?20:58
clivejono no its fine21:00
clivejodid kontact run?21:00
DarinMillerMany apps disappeared after the install error, I did not try to run kontact.  Reboot produced black screen where I can only log in via ctrl-alt-f121:02
IrcsomeBot<Clifford> disappeared?21:02
DarinMillerYes, stuff like kinfocenter was gone and several other items that were in the system menu, I did not poke around much before I tried the reboot.21:04
DarinMillerI can ppa-purge, re-install apps-stagin, and see if kontact is there and runs.21:04
DarinMillerwait, running sudo apt-get -f install now... lots of packages were left hanging....21:05
DarinMillerhad to manually connect to my network via command line.  but finishing the apps-staging install did not recover the system.... gwenview and specticle had unmet depends.... reinstalling YY.21:24
valoriesounds pretty bad, DarinMiller21:29
DarinMillervalorie:  it was expected, clivejo wanted me to test a sketchy YY apps-staging on a throwaway box and it went down in flames.  YY re-install already complete....21:32
clivejoDarinMiller: any apt errors?21:34
DarinMillerclivejo: Just what I posted earlier: https://paste.kde.org/pket1gryh21:35
clivejonothing regarding apps there though21:36
clivejoqml-module-org-kde-extensionplugin_5.21.0 is frameworks21:36
DarinMillermaybe I should have added the fm staging ppa?21:37
DarinMillerI can try again.  In that session, I think I was still on 5.5.5 as I did not have any PPAs installed. 21:38
clivejofew install problems21:45
clivejowell most of the apps I use are working21:49
clivejokonsole, dolphin, kontact21:49
DarinMillerinstalling updates landing now... had to sudo apt-get -f upgrade to make it work around the same 5.21.0-0ubuntu1~ubuntu16.10~ppa2 issue as before....21:51
clivejodid you do a dist upgrade21:58
clivejoFW5.22 and Plasma5.6.4 should be in the archive21:59
clivejowell most of them21:59
valoriedist-upgrade?22:13
valorieisn't full-upgrade always advised these days?22:13
clivejodunno22:14
clivejoI use dist cause it is bit more intelligent and gives me better errors22:15
DarinMillerHmmm YY box does not like updates landing PPA either.  Black screen on reboot, sddm/x fails to start.  Jumping out a prompt works but not sure what to check from there...22:18
clivejoI think something else is wrong on your install22:19
clivejoapps shouldn’t interfere with sddm etc 22:19
DarinMillerUnderstood.  Fresh install with formatted root directory.  YY PPA updates have worked fine up until today.   Maybe need to format the home partition, but I don't see how that would cause issue with X or SDDM either.22:24
clivejoKDE know about the KDE connect problem22:25
DarinMillerI will re-install and format both root and home.22:25
clivejothat should be patched in 16.0422:25
DarinMillerMy KDE connect notifications are working fine on 16.04, checking file browsing now....22:26
clivejoits the dolphin intregation22:26
DarinMillerFile browsing works fine too.22:26
DarinMillerin Dolphin22:26
clivejowhen you menu over a file in dolphin there is supposed to be a menu entry to send to you device22:26
DarinMillerFile copy worked fine. 22:27

clivejoneeds to go against kdeconnect-plasma22:32
clivejoI think kdeconnect isnt maintained any more22:32
huihuhWhen you install kdeconnect-plasma it also tells you to install kdeconnect. This is super confusing and it took me a few minutes to realize that kdeconnect is most likely the version for KDE422:38
clivejoagreed22:38
clivejoI dont know why that is22:38
clivejoit confused me for a long time too22:38
huihuhHow does stuff like this work? Who decides to dis-entangle them? I am completely new to all of this...22:39
clivejousually debian22:39
huihuhWhat would be the proper procedure for something like this? Write a suggestion to some debian mailing list?22:40
clivejommm Im actually asking in the Debian channel22:41
clivejoprobably wont get an answer today22:41
huihuhah, ok22:41

huihuhbtw, I created the bug report on launchpad and added you22:42
clivejobut its on OTFC network22:42
clivejoso I see22:42
huihuhIf you don't mind some additional stupid questions: what is more likely to happen in such a case: waiting that a new version is released upstream which fixes the bug or somebody "here" decides that this bug is too serious and it should be fixed sooner?22:44
clivejowell the upstream version can only go into yakkety22:45
clivejoa patch will have to be created for Xenial22:45
clivejocalled a SRU22:45
clivejohttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates22:46
clivejoquite a long process!22:46
clivejocould a few other testers please log your confirmation of this bug22:51
huihuhThx for the link, as a normal user I never really thought about what's going on behind the scenes22:53
clivejowell done on spotting it22:54
clivejoI use KDE connect a lot and I never noticed that!22:55
huihuhI use that function all the time because my phone has only 8 gb of storage. Therefore I was pretty annoyed when it stopped working. I could easily deal with all the plasma crashes from half a year ago, but not being able to copy pictures of fluffy cats to my phone... -.-22:57
clivejothat would make one very angry indeed22:59
clivejohuihuh: it affects Debian too23:12

DarinMillerI have held and broken packages....23:27
clivejoyou must have a mix of old and new packages23:27
DarinMillerI used the zsynced ISO for today's download, performed a full update, rebooted then added the apps staging repo and ran sudo apt full-upgrade -y23:29
DarinMillerNot sure where the new/old mix would have come from ....23:29
DarinMillerI can try on a different box, but I expect the same results.23:29
