alkisgHi, when selecting the recovery entry in grub, I do get the whiptail-based rescue menu, but 1 minute later, some systemd jobs time out and complain about failed dependencies, and then start other things over the rescue menu, and the result is that the recovery mode is completely unusable in xenial07:35
sarnoldalkisg: try hitting ^L, see if that redraws the screen07:35
alkisgIt does, but moment, in my tests there were 2 processes reading stdin after that point, eating up half of the keypresses, let me reproduce the other part that isn't just about screen drawing...07:36
alkisg(thanks btw...)07:36
alkisg(the failed dependency in my current test is about swap, it's not mounted properly in recovery...)07:39
sarnoldblech it just keeps getting worse :)07:39
alkisgMeh I can't reproduce the whole chaos in a vm, only on my real system so I'd have to reconnect to irc all the time...07:49
sarnold:(07:49
alkisgI'll try to reproduce it in a vm, but it'll take me some time, so I might have to continue that later, thank you... :)07:49
sarnolddoes your vm have a swap device?07:50
alkisgYes, an extended one, the default ubuntu installation07:50
alkisgswapon -a mounts it but systemd complains that the device isn't ready and it deactivates it after 1 sec...07:50
alkisgI think that if I manage to achieve the swap target, then systemd will continue with the chaos that I see in my real system07:51
alkisgNope, I managed to make it to the swap target but I was still unable to reproduce the chaos in the VM. Maybe it's also related to the EFI/gpt that I have in my main system.07:58
alkisgSo for now I can only report the redrawing and the "swap failed" parts, which are minor, I'll come back when I've found a more solid way to reproduce the recovery chaos that I was talking about...07:58

stefanctthere was once a getXconsole function in lib/power-funcs from the acpi-support package that i was using in a script. any idea for an alternative in 16.04 and newer?17:28
Unit193I don't suppose anyone will pull 'update-command-not-found' from Debian's command-not-found package?  This of course supports external repos whereas Ubuntu's doesn't.20:37
juliankUnit193: We should really merge both variants into something common :/21:14
juliankOn the other hand, I thought about moving the u-c-n-f to apt-file21:14
Unit193Like ubuntu shipping -data if needed.  And yeah, I need to file a bug on u-c-n-f. >_<21:15

Bluefoxicyssh in and dmesg while repeatedly unplugging and plugging in keyboard and kernel says "Whoa dude!  That USB cable might be bad!" reboot to fix23:34
