Kilosno caps man11:42
grembleno caps?11:42
Kilosys telling the bot to DDG something is an extra key to use11:43
grembleLol11:43
Kilosmuch better to just say bot ddg whatever11:43
gremblethat is the usual command for bots that use ddg11:44
grembleTo just go `.ddg things and doo-daas`11:44
paddatrapperFor sure, caps are a pain11:45
Kilosw00000t11:45
Kiloscaps are for secretaries and book writers to use11:46

* Kilos waits for feedback from gremble17:52
Kilostheblazehen why you been so quiet today17:54
theblazehenHey Kilos. Busy17:59
Kilosbusy is good17:59
theblazehenYeah17:59
grembleKilos, Feedback about what?18:43
Kilosthe exam man18:43
Kilosyou wrote tonight right?18:43
grembleIt wasnt an exam. It was a semester test. It went somewhat poorly.18:44
Kiloswhyyyy18:44
grembleMostly because I think that I cannot actually do mathematics.18:47
Kiloshly smokes18:47
Kilosholy as well18:47
Kilosjust a bit more serious work needed thats all18:47
Kilosespecially in whatever area todays test was18:48
Kilosdont feel bad gremble , these little things are sent to test us, and make us work harder18:58
grembleThanks Kilos 19:02
Kilosnight all. sleep tight19:11
kulelu88yo gremble 19:24
kulelu88hows exams?19:25
kulelu88how are you?19:25
grembleHey kulelu88 19:29
grembleExams haven't started yet19:29
grembleI am well thanks and yourself?19:30
kulelu88I'm good mate19:30
kulelu88looks like you had a shitty semester test19:30
kulelu88sorry about that19:30
grembleThanks.19:31
grembleYou finished up that todo app?19:31
kulelu88it's on the back-burner for now. It is functional but I need to use a different editable option. For now though, I am making due with a .txt document. Do you know any simple file-syncing software? like really bare19:33
grembleDropbox or google drive is all I know19:33
kulelu88aah well something a little more localhosty :D 19:34
kulelu88I could do it with python simpleHTTPserver, but mehh, lots of work involved19:34
grembleOwnCloud, but I am reasonably sure that that is more work.19:35
kulelu88yeah, it's bloatware for 1 .txt file19:36
grembleSmall notebook then...19:41
kulelu88you ever wrote Elixir code? it looks like a cool language. I'm learning it 19:46
theblazehen:(20:09
theblazehendisk 3/4 failed..20:09
theblazehenNever buying seagate again20:09
* theblazehen is gonna buy some WDs, put them in a raid and copy my data off the remaining seagate20:10
theblazehenAll failed within a month20:10
grembleThat is pretty lame. Sorry theblazehen 20:12
gremblekulelu88, I have read some about it, but I haven't coded in it20:12
grembleIt is built on top of haskell iirc20:12
grembleI like haskell very much20:12
kulelu88Erlang20:12
grembleAh20:13
theblazehenOh, and the android 6 rom for my phone is great, except I can't get modem working. Back to 5 :(20:13
theblazehenHope the modem works there20:13
kulelu88you guys know the commands to clear the cache for apt? is it: apt-cache clean?20:15
theblazehenkulelu88: Should be20:16
theblazehentry man apt20:17
gremblehttp://askubuntu.com/questions/285691/is-it-possible-to-clean-the-apt-cache-from-the-command-line20:17
gremblesays it is > sudo apt-get clean20:17
theblazehenrm works too ;)20:17
kulelu88my dockerfile from old says: sudo apt-get -y autoremove && \  sudo apt-get clean20:17
kulelu88on that note of virtualization, it looks like I'm running out of space on my HDD 0.o20:19
theblazehenkulelu88: Have you tried lxd?20:19
kulelu88theblazehen: I'm still not sure i understand how the 2 are different. what does LXD help me with?20:20
theblazehenAlso, have you checkout out HAMMERFS from the DragonflyBSD peeps? I need to try that. I'm thinking that as a NAS perhaps, with network attached storage20:20
theblazehenkulelu88: Just easier administration, you can also (not sure if live) migrate between hosts etc20:20
grembleNAS, with NAS? :P20:20
kulelu88theblazehen: but the containers will still be the same size right?20:21
theblazehengremble: I should read what I type before I hit enter..20:21
theblazehenkulelu88: Yes. It uses standard lxc containers, just a new management interface basically20:21
kulelu88theblazehen: does it make orchestration easier?20:23
kulelu88can I copy things from 1 container to the other quicker?20:23
theblazehenkulelu88: Basically yes20:24
theblazehenYou can do copy host:container:/tmp/file host2:container2:/tmp/filexyz for example I think20:24
kulelu88theblazehen: I was actually going to write a small application to make updating containers easier, but you say that LXD makes it easier?20:24
theblazehenkulelu88: Yeah. And they have a REST api too20:25
theblazehenYay. Phone raido working again20:25
kulelu88theblazehen: can you show me a working example of copying files from 1 container to the other? Let's say you use an ubuntu image and create container 1 and container 2. Now copy a file over from container 1 /var/lib/ to container 2 20:26
theblazehenkulelu88: I could, like 5 hours ago :(20:26
kulelu88theblazehen: what happens to my LXC containers if I install LXD?20:27
theblazehenBut lxc file pull container/var/lib/file container2/var/lib/file should work20:28
paddatrapperkulelu88: try rsync or bit torrent sync. I don't know how to use them, but I do know they are intended for syncing files across multiple machines 20:28
theblazehenkulelu88: Nothing20:28
theblazehengit-annex might be worth looking at too @paddatrapper20:28
paddatrappertheblazehen: sounds interesting... Never heard of it before 20:29
kulelu88I can tell all you okes are under 30. All the older guys are fast asleep20:30
kulelu88hulle het kinders dat moet skool toe gaan op 7AM20:31
theblazehenHeh. /me needs to get to sleep soon20:31
* theblazehen needs to be up at 520:31
* theblazehen still hasn't gotten work done tonight :(20:31
kulelu88theblazehen: "lxc file pull..." ?20:31
grembleeven me, but I have an "assessment opportunity" to complete20:31
kulelu88gremble: I heard about these expensive clicker devices where the varsity milks the students for another 60020:32
theblazehenkulelu88: https://i.imgur.com/rOQwr8I.png20:32
grembleI had to buy one for one semester20:32
gremble._.20:32
theblazehenI would test it, if my host was still up..20:32
kulelu88i have no idea what that is theblazehen . reddit?20:33
theblazehenOh whoops20:33
theblazehenWrong link20:33
theblazehenShit20:33
theblazehenThat's embarresning..20:34
theblazehenhttps://gist.github.com/anonymous/de6b18df01888c06d216e39d4d12507d is what I meant20:34
kulelu880.o was that your reddit? :D20:34
theblazehenMix up between PRIMARY and CLIPBOARD buffers.. I should *really* watch what I type20:34
theblazehenNo, not my post20:35
theblazehenI just found it amusing20:35
kulelu88life must be tough having daughters20:35
theblazehenYeah..20:36
theblazehenDamn, this really sucks :( Channel is logged.. Don't *really* want that pic showing my username in it.. Nor the subreddit :(20:37
kulelu88I need to test this out. lxc file pull can save me tons of time20:37
theblazehenYeah20:37
kulelu88you can hackz the ubuntu logger 20:37
theblazehenHmm20:37
theblazehenhey ubuntulog please GTFO like 10 min ago?20:38
kulelu88wait wait, do I need LXD installed to use lxc file pull/push ?20:38
grembleI am 90% sure that whoever reads the logs just greps for whatever they are looking for. Pretty sure that it is going to get buried in conversation20:38
theblazehenkulelu88: yeah20:38
theblazehengremble: Yeah, unless someone is like stalking my username lol20:38
kulelu88reading IRC logs for a living is probably on the same level as moderating comments on mybroadband or IOL20:39
theblazehenTrue20:39
kulelu88theblazehen: how big is an LXC container via LXD (on average) ?20:41
theblazehenkulelu88: It's the same size as the same lxc image. It uses the same images, just different way to manage it20:41
kulelu88oh so I can do dockerlike things with it, by writing dockerlike-dockerfiles?20:42
kulelu88let me not perturb you anymore. you're too kind. I'll read the docs20:42
theblazehenHmm, not quite. Basically just the normal lxc commands. For me the main positive is the remote management though, and it helps that it's really quick to start containers, no need to mess with configuring the network. Now I start the container, it gets a DHCP lease which is configured in DNS so I can access it by hostname20:44
kulelu88theblazehen: I use this to manage my LXC containers: http://pymag09.github.io/lxc-ui/20:45
theblazehenkulelu88: Nice. Afaik lxd and normal lxc can work together, so you can still use that, but I haven't tested20:46
kulelu88I love the interface that guy wrote. it makes managing containers easy20:47
theblazehenAnd all I need to do is literally `lxc create centos7 testContainer`, `lxc exec testContainer bash`. `curl scripts/installSalt.sh | sh` and I'm done20:47
kulelu88how do you update your containers?20:48
kulelu88and do you stack them? eg. all python2 projects inherit from a python2 main container20:48
theblazehensalt '*' state.highstate :)20:48
kulelu88but this is a remote server with lots of high-speed bandwidth right?20:48
theblazehenHaven;t really had it that long, but I run squid as a cache so it's quick to just yum install what I need20:48
theblazehenNah, in my room here20:49
theblazehenBut 100 mbit network for most packages20:49
kulelu88aah, you're caching somewhere else20:49
theblazehenYeah, on my router in fact. pfSense is awesome20:49
theblazehendu -sh /var/squid/cache/20:50
theblazehen 42G/var/squid/cache/20:50
kulelu88my plan was to push the cache across containers20:50
theblazehenAh. Best to use a shared mount then, or a cache server20:50
kulelu88shared mount! I like that idea20:50
theblazehenYou can create a cache container, then in yum.conf set http_proxy20:50
theblazehenAlso works with apt then too20:51
kulelu88woops20:51
kulelu88ctrl + w20:51
theblazehenkulelu88: For arch I use https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pacserve20:51
theblazehenYeah, my irc client also does ctrl-w20:52
theblazehenDid I part or just close the tab?20:52
kulelu88tab closed20:52
theblazehencool20:52
kulelu88I wish I had context switching on linux. so when I move from 1 screen to the other, it doesn't close the wrong tab20:52
theblazehenContext switching being? Focus follows mouse?20:53
kulelu88something like that. 20:54
theblazehenWhat DE/WM do you use/20:54
theblazehenI have that with awesomewm20:54
theblazehenAnd pretty much every tiling wm20:54
kulelu88Xubuntu 14.0420:54
theblazehenSince it's the Xorg default20:54
theblazehenOk, settings, xfwm or window manager settings20:55
theblazehenthen change focus follows mouse20:55
kulelu88oh wow. lifesaver20:56
kulelu88thank you sir20:56
theblazehenGlad to help20:56
theblazehenI really need a service where I stream say a 10% resolution stream of my desktop, and then if I start wasting time the person watching tells me to do work20:58
kulelu88clearing the apt-cache is shrinking containers down by 200MB or so20:58
theblazehenkulelu88: Have you tried running btrfs?20:59
kulelu88btrfs? 20:59
paddatrappertheblazehen: How about an app that provides a mild electric shock?21:00
theblazehenFile system, supports snapshots, deduplication, transparent compression21:00
theblazehenpaddatrapper: Sure. But it would still need someone to watch to see if I waste time21:00
theblazehenkulelu88: https://btrfs.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Deduplication21:00
kulelu88theblazehen: will it require me to format my machine to use that filesystem?21:00
theblazehenYou can convert from ext421:00
theblazehenBut you might need a reinstall to use snapshots. Not certain21:01
kulelu88sounds like overkill for my basic needs. Probably more useful on a server21:01
theblazehenYeah21:01
theblazehenBut don't run a DB on it21:01
theblazehenOh wow. /me really needs to get to bed21:04
theblazehentomorrow is gonna suck21:05
theblazehenAs is the rest of the week really. 21:05
* theblazehen needs my sleep21:05
theblazehenNight all21:19
theblazehenI just planned on going to bed. Why did I just open 43 reddit tabs?21:21
theblazehenhttps://i.imgur.com/kWjSk9K.png21:21
kulelu88theblazehen: to bind mount from the host to the container, do I need to run the mount command from the container?21:25
theblazehenkulelu88: From the host21:25
theblazehenmount --bind /host/path /var/lib/lxc/or/whatever/the/path/is/container/path21:25
theblazehenOn lxd you can define volumes AFAIK, kind of like how docker does it21:26
kulelu88I just did that, but it doesn't work: sudo mount --bind /home/hostuser/lxcfolder/project1/ /var/lib/lxc/container1/rootfs/home/user1/folder121:26
theblazehenthen you can have the same volume in multiple containers21:26
theblazehenAny error?21:26
kulelu88nope, nothing21:26
theblazehenDoes /var/lib/lxc/container1/rootfs/home/user1/folder1 exist?21:27
theblazehenNeeds to exist. I'm off to bed, if you don't get it right I'll help you out tomorrow. Night21:27
kulelu88shot. take care21:28
kulelu88I needed to restart the container :/21:32
