fucatushello11:07
fucatusi guess meta questions aren't welcome here so here is my problem: i installed bumblebee on my xubuntu and after a reboot my screen resolution was fixed to something like 600x480. from there I tried a lot of things and finally managed to get an option to change my resolution through the gui (display settings), however, the resolution didn't actually change11:09
fucatuswell, after a while of trying to fix it, now all graphical surface is gone, but i still have access via console11:09
fucatusis there a way for me to restore my graphics to the starting default?11:10
fucatusi tried several things and searched a lot, for example i tried reinstalling xfce, but nothing worked11:10

ProjectFiHello.18:19
ProjectFiI am not new to Linux, but still learning.18:20
ProjectFiI tried to format my Flashdrive, but it shows me error.18:20
ProjectFi"Permission Denied".18:20
ProjectFiI was using terminal to format my pendrive, and was following these commands. : http://askubuntu.com/questions/662935/how-to-format-usb-flash-disk-using-ubuntu-terminal18:20
ProjectFiCan someone help me out.18:21
krytarikProjectFi: That command is missing "sudo" in front.18:22
krytarik!sudo18:22
ubottusudo is a command to run command-line programs with superuser privileges ("root") (also see !cli). Look at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RootSudo for more information. For graphical applications see !pkexec (for older releases: !gksu and !kdesudo). If you're unable to execute commands with sudo see: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/fixsudo18:22
ProjectFiOh my lord.18:23
ProjectFiThank you.18:23
krytarikSure.18:23

ProjectFiI am so dumb and blind.18:23
ProjectFikrytarik: Which program will you recommend for making bootable pendrive?18:24
ProjectFiUnetbootin ?18:24
krytarikProjectFi: I recently just used 'dd' myself. :P18:25
ProjectFidd?18:25
ProjectFikrytarik: What is dd? Is there any tutorial on how make bootable usb on linux ?18:29
krytarikProjectFi: http://askubuntu.com/questions/372607/how-to-create-a-bootable-ubuntu-usb-flash-drive-from-terminal - but if you are on 16.04, 'usb-creator-gtk' should work as well.18:29
ProjectFikrytarik: I am on 15 version.18:29
krytarikThen I'd not bet on the latter.18:30
krytarik!usb | ProjectFi: There is quite a bit of info here as well18:36
ubottuProjectFi: There is quite a bit of info here as well: For information about installing Ubuntu from USB flash drives, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick - For a persistent live USB install, see: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveUsbPendrivePersistent18:36
thenewoneHi guys19:11
thenewoneis xubuntu the same as ubuntu ?19:11
thenewoneonly the xfce4 difference ?19:11
niteyehello peoples19:18
thenewoneHi19:19
thenewoneniteye: i have a simple question19:20
thenewoneniteye: is xubuntu = ubuntu only the wm difference ?19:20
niteyethe desktop environment is also different, but they use the same repository, so its almost the same19:20
thenewoneonly the desktop19:21
thenewoneok19:21
niteyebut im no expert on ubuntu because im also here for an issue i have heheh19:21
thenewonethanks alot :)19:21
thenewonewhat is the issue ?19:21
thenewonebefore i leave :)19:21
niteyei have a strange issue in the installation, when i create my paritions, the installer keeps adding 0 Mb sized free space in between the partitions19:21
thenewonewhat program you are using to create this partitions ?19:22
thenewonecfdisk gparted ?19:22
niteyeeven when i want to change an existing partition, if i click OK it says i edited the size, which i didnt, and it adds 0 Mb of free space after it19:22
niteyedunno, the xubuntu installer19:22
thenewoneniteye: can you delete this paritions again ?19:23
niteyeyup i can but when i try to recreate it, it happens again19:24
thenewoneok do the following19:24
thenewoneshred -vn 1 /dev/sdX ( the partition you wanna remake )19:24
thenewonewait 1% or 2%19:24
niteyeat least its handy i can IRC and surf the web while installing. on the same computer hehe19:24
thenewonecfdisk create this parititons again19:24
thenewoneand mkfs.ext4 /dev/sdX19:25
thenewoneyep19:25
thenewonei think i will give a try for xubuntu19:25
niteyeisnt shred gonna take an enormous amount of time. the partition is 2 tb19:25
thenewoneeven ubuntu is not secure that much19:25
thenewoneniteye: don't let it finish just for 1%19:25
thenewoneand use cfdisk19:26
niteyei need ubuntu because debian is terrible on my computer, too many driver and video issues, ubuntu seems to work much better, but i hate the interface, so i choose xubuntu, its not secure by default but you can configure it to be very very secure19:26
thenewonehow can you make it secure ?19:28
niteyeyou can set up strict firewall rules, encrypt the drive, set up a lock screen etc.19:29
thenewoneya firewall19:29
thenewonewish one you are using iptables or ufw ?19:29
niteyeiptables19:29
thenewonenice19:30
thenewoneufw sucks :)19:30
niteyei wouldnt know i never used it, :) but iptables is nice19:30
thenewonei'm donwloading xubuntu19:30
thenewonethe best19:30
thenewoneok guys thanks alot and have a nice day19:31
niteyeindeed the best, except the installer19:31
thenewoneniteye: did your problem solved ?19:31
niteyedidnt try it yet19:31
thenewonei'm runing arch now19:31
thenewonei will back to debian little bit19:32
thenewoneand distros based on debian19:32
thenewonejust for fun i will leave you knwo thanks alot and have a nice day :)19:32
krytarikniteye: http://askubuntu.com/questions/525596/unallocated-small-chunks-being-created-in-gparted-when-resizing-partitions19:36
niteyeaha so xubuntu installer probably aligns to MB, but i dont see an option to change it though, as i use GPT primary partitions19:39
krytarikniteye: You can use GParted from the Live session *before* running the installer.19:41
niteyewould it work though, because when i want to "use" an existing partition, even if i dont change the size, it says i changed it and adds a 0MB free space before or after it19:41
