whitemaleHello :) - i have a Aquaris M10 (HD) (not FHD) with ubuntu touch installed on it. i would like to install Android on it, and i am a little confused about how this is done, in the wiki its says that there are a Recovery image and a Reinstalling gudide, the Reinstalling guide does not have any files for "bq Aquaris M10 (HD nor FHD)", please help :)00:59
whitemaleor is the recovery image just the recovery image of ubuntu touch? is there a android for aquaris m10?01:05
ahoneybunmariogrip: how do I see what works on that devel_rc-proposed channel?02:01
whitemalehow do i install android 5.1 on aquaris m10 hd firmware 1.3.0 with ubuntu touch installed on it?02:19

oftc_ftwhi all. i'm trying to install Ubuntu Dual Boot on my Nexus 4. It seemed to work so far, but when I click "Reboot to Ubuntu" the phone is stuck at the Google logo until I reset it. Of course, then it reboots back into Android. Any ideas?11:19
oftc_ftwI've got to admit that I use OmniRom instead of CM and TWRP instead of ClockwordMod. Could that lead to such issues?11:20
popeyPossibly.11:21
popeyWe generally don't support any kind of dual boot.11:22
oftc_ftwok sorry, i thought maybe someone had similar issues before.11:24
popeyoftc_ftw: we just don't ever test those scenarios really11:25
oftc_ftwpopey: i understand, it would just be really convenient to have this kind of setup right now. never mind then.11:29
brunch875I wanted to try that too just for the sake of it, but I've always been concerned android would patch some drivers or something and break the system.11:38

jgdxjibel, hey, how is bug 1588630 affecting USS? Anything I can do?12:43
ubot5bug 1588630 in Canonical System Image ""External display" still in English " [High,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/158863012:43
jibeljgdx, it's just a translation issue. I added a task to track which component is affected otherwise it's just umbrella projects12:49
jgdxjibel, okay12:49
mike00hi all, I want to report some bug at the screen asking for the pin. where can I report it?13:34
ogra_see channel topic13:35
mike00bug filing?13:36
mike00what shall I choose?13:37
ogra_just follow the link13:37
* saavento says Hi!13:38
mike00which area should I choose? I'm not English so I don't understand exactly all the categories...13:38
ogra_the area you think is affected by your bug indeed13:39
ogra_(what exactly is your issue with the pin)13:40
mike00if the background image is white or with light colour you can see very well words: the lock screen image is a bit darken, the pic image should be like that one.13:42
mike00pin+13:42
mike00*13:42
ogra_mike00, the lockscreen is lightdm iirc13:44
ogra_or unity8 ... just pick one of them13:44
dobeyit's unity8 i think13:44
ogra_https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity8/+filebug?no_redirect13:44
ogra_try that link13:44
mike00but I want to report the pin image not the lockscreen one13:45
mike00the image lock screen is perfect now13:45
ogra_what do you mean by "pin image" then ?13:45
dobeyit's the same thing13:45
mike00the background image of the screen asking for the pin13:46
mike00it's the same image of the lock screen but not darkened13:46
ogra_hmm, here it is the same brightness level ... the image i swipe to the side is the same as the next one that shows the number pad13:47
dobeyit's the same thing. unity8 is what manages the lock screen13:47
dobeyogra_: i think the complaint is a transparency issue, not hardware brightness13:48
* ogra_ doesnt see any brightness difference13:48
ogra_dobey, yes, respectively a picture brghtness issue ... but i dont see any difference in brightness ... trying to grasp what the issue is13:49
dobeyogra_: well you aren't looking at mike00's screen :)13:49
mike00yes, could be a transparency issues13:49
ogra_true, might depend on the wallpaper you use13:49
dobeyor hardware13:50
ogra_mike00, well, thats definitely unity8 ... so just follow the link i pasted above13:50
dobeyand image13:50
ogra_(even if that would be wrong, people will move it to the right bucket later)13:50
mike00my image as a white zone in the top left corner, under some words...13:51
mike00and I can't see the words very well...13:51
ogra_right, and the font is plain white with no shadows under the chars13:51
ogra_(usually a light drop shadow would fix this)13:52
mike00in the lock screen is better than in the screen asking for the pin...13:52
dobey*sigh*13:52
ogra_just file it against unity813:53
ogra_https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity8/+filebug?no_redirect13:53
mike00thanks13:53
mike00and is correct that I can close the screen asking for the PIN just swiping to left or to right?14:05
dobeyi don't think so, no14:10
mike00ok thanks.14:11
dobeymike00: are you asking about the main pin unlock for the system, or you are asking about SIM unlock pin?14:11
mike00the SIM one14:11
dobeyok, i am not sure if that is part of unity8 or not14:12
dobeyand i don't have a locked sim, so i don't know how it works exactly14:12
mike00ok, so the bug i asked for before goes under unity8 or not?14:13
mike00last question (I hope): can I attach more than 1 file in a bug report on LP?14:14
ogra_as many as you want14:14
dobeyyes; if it doesn't belong to unity8, the devs will move it to the right place14:14
mike00thanks, but how can I attach more than 1 file?14:15
dobeyattach a file; then attach another one14:15
mike00I'm sorry but I can't: I select a file and it works, but for the second when I select it, the pc deselect the file I choose before...14:17
ogra_if you click the "add attachement or patch" link it doesnt allow you to add a file ?14:17
mike00yes but only one file14:18
ogra_sure14:18
dobeyright14:19
dobeyyou have to attach one file, then attach another one14:19
dobeyi didn't say select. and even if multi-select worked, you'd still have to ctrl+click or shift+click to select multiple files in the chooser; but multi-select doesn't work14:20
mike00I click ok on the first file, then I click to attach another file and I select the second file and press ok. but then I see only a file under the attachments...14:20
dobey*sigh*14:21
mike00should I create a whole image with the two inside it?14:23
dobeyok, i obviously can't see what you are doing exactly, but you must be doing something wrong if the attachments aren't showing up. lp certainly supports multiple attachments14:23
mike00https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity8/+bug/1589533 it's ok this bug report?14:39
ubot5Launchpad bug 1589533 in unity8 (Ubuntu) "background image of the screen asking for the PIN is to bright" [Undecided,New]14:39
dobeyyes that's unity814:45
mike00ok thanks14:57

grasstypehello. What would I need to do to get the normal manpages installed in the CLI?15:24
grasstypeso I can do man ls, or man less, etc15:24
grasstypeoh please xchat, don't crash again15:25
ogra_use a chroot or a libertine container and install the respective packages15:26
grasstypeogra_, sorry, I meant in a chroot15:27
grasstypeI got one set up, and I can already use basic commands15:28
grasstypebut the default ones don't have manpages for some reason15:28
grasstypeso I can't get anything for "man ls", for example15:29
grasstypethe stuff I've installed myself works find, ie "man man" or "man gpp"15:29
grasstypefine*15:29
ogra_well, install the manpages, man-db and probably manpages-dev packages in your chroot then15:29
grasstypeogra_, xchat doesn't seem to like my keyboard. I couldn't pres the back key.. oh well. "manpages" and "manpages-dev" both installed. Still doesn't give me "man ls"15:34
=== dandrader is now known as dandrader|afk
ogra_grasstype, what about man-db ?15:35
ogra_(that carries the actual "man" binary)15:35
grasstypeyeah, man is installed15:36
JanCgrasstype: did you install coreutils inside the chroot?15:36
grasstypecoreutils? don't think so15:36
grasstypesays its already at newest version15:37
ogra_well, theoretically man-db should pull in everything it needs via deps15:38
ogra_Depends: groff-base (>= 1.18.1.1-15), bsdmainutils, debconf (>= 1.2.0) | debconf-2.0, libc6 (>= 2.14), libgdbm3 (>= 1.8.3), libpipeline1 (>= 1.3.0), zlib1g (>= 1:1.1.4)15:38
ogra_thats the deps list15:38
grasstypeis there a way to see if that's setup correctly? I Don't see why it wouldn't be, but idk wtf I'm doin, so worth a shot15:39
grasstypehmm, just tried apt-get install --reinstall man-db , didn't change anything15:44
grasstypealright, put it up on askubuntu , so I guess I'll see where it goes15:50
grasstypethis whole experience has been so educational!15:52
dobeyhuh16:04
dobeygrasstype: how did you create the chroot exactly?16:06
grasstypedobey, a guide online, let me see if I can remember16:08
dobey'man ls' certainly works here16:08
grasstypeIIRC I used the chroot command, I did something with wget and "vivid-preinstalled-touch-armgh.tar.gz"16:09
dobeyyou did https://askubuntu.com/questions/620740/recommended-way-to-install-regularcli-deb-packages-on-ubuntu-phone/623311#623311 ?16:10
grasstypeI didn't because I did it without a hose computer16:12
grasstypeso no ppa, phablet-tools, or libertine stuff16:13
dobeythe instructions in my answer there don't require a host computer16:13
grasstypeoh sorry, just read the top post. Yeah, looks like I used the top one16:13
dobeygrasstype: do you have the file /usr/share/man/man1/ls.1.gz inside your chroot?16:15
grasstypeI evenin man1, there is no ls.1.gz16:16
grasstypenope16:16
dobeywell then that's why "man ls" isn't working16:17
dobeyso why are the files missing for you16:17
grasstypesweet16:17
grasstypeI now know where it would be :) now.... why would it be missing16:17
dobeydo 'apt-get install --reinstall coreutils' in the chroot, then try man ls again16:18
mike00hi there. if I have to report a bug for the phone call incoming on which package should report?16:19
grasstypesweet, there it is16:19
grasstypedobey, your'e my hero16:19
mike00The bug is: when you receive a call you can close the notifications swiping and than the phone continue to ring but you can't do nothing16:24
mike00Or is it reported yet? I searched but I didn't find nothing...16:25
merpnderpIs Canonical still pushing hard to get into the mobile phone business? And is the Meizu Pro 5 the only phone available in the US (if it comes back into stock)?16:26
grasstypemerpnderp, looks like on both counts16:26
merpnderpgrasstype: "on"?16:27
merpnderpYou mean no?16:27
grasstypebut last I chcked, the Meizu still isn't fully compatible with the us market, supports different channels for the LTE spectrum16:27
grasstypeI meant "it", not sure how that happened16:27
grasstypeoh, "looks like it on both counts"*16:28
merpnderpgrasstype: okay thanks. Just want an Ubuntu phone that doesn't come with android.16:29
grasstypewhen I talked to ting about it, they said they can only guarantee 2g speeds, needs channels 2,4,or 12 I think, when they supported 1,3,716:30
merpnderpWell that's a bummer16:30
grasstypesame here. I ended up buying the m10 (what I'm not now) just because I couldn't get the phone that I could guarantee works16:30

dobeymerpnderp: nexus 5 with ubuntu works (mostly) great16:39
grasstypeI didn't see that the nexus 5 was supported... though they were avoiding that one16:43
grasstypeanything not work on that?16:44
dobeythe builds are from ubports.com16:44
grasstypeoh... bluetooth it looks like... well that means no keyboard... eh16:44
dobeyit's not "officially" supported like the nexus 4 or retail devices16:44
dobeyeh, connecting a bt keyboard to my phone is way down on my list of things i need bluetooth for16:45
dobeyif you want something that's a bit better supported than that, now, then a nexus4 is probably the next best option in the US16:46
grasstypeI'm just waiting for an officially-supported preloaded one. Was really really close to buyign the meizu pro16:48
grasstypewould have that instead of the m10, and still question my deciison sometimes16:48
dobeyi'm waiting for a phone that's not the size of an oversized handbag16:49

dobeyappears so16:54
grasstypemaybe once we get holographic floating interfaces like the movies of the late 90's...16:54
dobeyuntil we all get corneal implants anyway16:54
grasstypelol. Future is google glass?16:54
dobeyfuture is google probably buys a competitor to monsanto, and then we end up with "google grass"16:56
dobeyand then they abandon the project 3 years later16:57

mariogripdobey: thanks for letting me know?17:39
mariogripmhall119: forgot me?17:39
ogra_dobey, the manpages are actually wiped from the touch tarballs on purpose (together with all other documentation) ... so indeed grasstype can only find manpages for newly installed packages in the chroot17:39
dobeymariogrip: yeah, i can't seem to connect over adb or ssh after switching to that channel17:40

ogra_http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-dev/livecd-rootfs/trunk/view/head:/live-build/ubuntu-touch/hooks/99-remove-documentation.chroot17:41
ogra_(originally from some OEM team build tool)17:41
dobey*shrug*17:42
dobeythat's awful17:42
ogra_there is no need for any commandline documentation on a phone17:42
ogra_and it saves plenty of megabytes17:42
ogra_people should perhaps rather use the ubuntu-base tarballs if they want a fully functional ubuntu chroot17:43
dobeyyeah, no need for documentation, especially when we have a terminal app that we support, and allows people to use the command line17:43
ogra_dobey, well, maguro wouldnt have been possible with leaving the docs there (well, it would, but people would have ended up with not much space for data)17:44
ogra_thats a few 100 MB uncompressed17:44
dobeywell, we never supported maguro with 15.04 :)17:44
dobeynot sure what all exactly gets deleted there, but it seems like there are better things to delete, or better ways to solve explicit docs issues17:45
ogra_not really17:46
ogra_you could hire 50 people to split all documentation out of the packages and maintain a gigantic diff from debian though17:46
ogra_but then i guess if we hired 50 people we'd have something better to do for them ;)17:47
dobeywell, i doubt /usr/share/man is where all those magical megabytes came from17:48
dobeyanyway, whatever17:48
dobeyswitching to the 5.1 channel was not a great idea on this phone yet17:48
ogra_did you test aethercast yet ?17:48

mariogripdobey: oh, thanks for the tip :)18:24
dobeymariogrip: it seems like that might be the same issue, since after flashing the 5.1 image, my battery went from pretty high, down to like 34% despite being plugged in18:25

mariogripI tried connecting to a password connected and i get this, wpa_supplicant[830]: wlan0: Authentication with [mac address] timed out. might be the same as you get.19:03

_morphisthat will give you the stream output in VLC19:30
_morphisif you have both devices on the same network19:30
_morphisdobey: should be19:31
mhall119_morphis: does aethercast need the microsoft widi dongle, or will it work with any* miracast compatible display19:31

_morphismhall119: so file a bug for any not working one19:32
_morphismhall119: and don't expect all to perform equally19:32
dobey_morphis: ok, just wanted to clarify so we don't send mariogrip on a wild goose chase trying to patch in a libhybris that's different from what's already in the image, and sufficient for this :)19:32
