I'm checking out Ubuntu Mate (coming from openSUSE) and have a quick question: When I copy a file in Caja and paste it into Mate Terminal, it comes with a "file:// [03:59] " prefix. Is there a way to turn that off? [03:59] (So that the pasted text is just the path to the file) [04:45] hi [04:45] anyone in here? === box is now known as Guest45773 [04:46] why did my name get changed [04:46] anyone running mate 16.04 on raspberry pi 3? I'm trying to install 16.04 (Mate edition), and am repeatedly getting "Error no 5 Input/Output". The sha256sum of the iso matches what's on the website. I read about previous Ubuntu versions having this error and it being solved by running 'ubiquity --no-migration-assistant', but when I run that in the LiveUSB environment, I get a 'no s [08:14] uch option' error message. This is a brand new hard drive, so I don't think it's that. Any ideas? [08:26] mate|41013: are you using a usb stick? how did you create it? [16:36] * ouroumov takes the bets [16:40] Hello im back didnt fix it but i know what the cube is or i know a bit about its [16:41] the thing is its a warning cube built into the raspberry pi 3 normally if it keep lighting it means its not getting the needed power from the power supply but i dont know what it means if its blinking i just want a console command or somthing to remove it i've been seaching all over the internet for a fixing [16:41] are you guys still here? [16:41] uh [16:41] yes patrick__ [16:41] can you fix it ouromov [16:41] No [16:42] )-: i just want it away it makes me wanna trow the raspberry pi'e out! [16:42] Ask the guys who build your raspberrypi, or acquire a new power supply for it [16:42] i dont know them i bought it from a company cant remember who or were yes in china! [16:43] I'm sure you can find USB power supplies anywhere [16:44] but its not the power supply [16:44] its only the power supply if it keep lighting but its flashing not lightning [16:44] man i hate this. [16:45] Maybe it's flashing because the supplied power fluctuates [16:45] fluctates wjat dpes that mean [16:45] Power varies [16:46] but im running from a high end power bank [16:48] well some people says its my usb cable ): [16:48] Have you joined the #raspberrypi channel? [16:48] how [16:49] By typing /join #raspberrypi [16:49] okay i will do i found a way io will just have to shutdown the pie to set warnings off i hope it works! be back in a few mins [16:54] Dude the problem is fixed i just used another cable! [16:55] dude you still here? [16:55] yup [16:56] well i cant think my sony cable cant support enught power but a cheap shitty cable works fine [16:57] You know Sony is Evil right? [16:57] no i love sony lol :P [16:57] Like, if you had to pick a company worthy of being the leader of the Evil Corps, it'd be sony [16:57] hehe [16:58] i love sony beacuse they make the fastest phones ps i got a new problem [16:58] im trying to watch a movie with vlc media player but its all black the sound is there and so on but vlc media player just shows black why [16:58] Yeah [16:58] Check the forums [16:58] * The Ubuntu MATE forums [16:59] huh? [16:59] Here: https://ubuntu-mate.community/ [17:01] . [17:11] dont work ive tried those i could finde [17:14] join #raspberrypi [17:14] how do i join [19:01] How do I remove the borders at the top of open programmes? === don is now known as Guest26690 [19:36] just install ubuntu mate 16.04 on an old Intel single-core previously running WindowsXP. Not bad so far! [19:37] my neighbour has a 14.04 installation on an old xp computer too [19:37] not too awful :) [19:40] The system monitor indicates that I am using about 25% CPU and 425Mb of Ram at idle. These numbers are a bit higher than I had experienced running Ubuntu 12.04 with a Gnome desktop environment. [19:42] if you really want to go go light you'll get devuan with xfce [19:43] I tried Debian 8.4 Mate from a live DVD this morning and it was running on very little system resources. [19:44] devuan should be even better, it uses sysvinit instead of systemd [19:44] i run it on my laptop with MATE and an SSD, crazy fast :D [19:45] I am trying to convert this old box for a neighbor who checks his email and Facebook for keeping up with family. [19:48] I am not familiar with this distribution. I think it is worth a try for this project. Thanks, Akuli! [19:49] they're working on a live installer, but it's not quite ready yet [19:49] so i'd suggest installing debian from a mini.iso on a test computer if you have one, and then try devuan [19:50] That's fine. There is nothing but Ubuntu Mate on the current HDD. [19:50] try it on a test computer or virtualbox first anyway. partitioning is a bit different in a text-based installer :) [19:55] I will check out this distro. It may be the answer.
