[00:56] plasma keeps crashing every 10 minutes https://www.irccloud.com/pastebin/nxVMvzM0/ === claydoh is now known as Guest54344 [01:29] Boa Noite não consigo acessar a internet [02:01] what is the latest version of qt for kubuntu? [02:06] fuze: kubuntu currently uses QT 5.5.1 [02:08] fuze: The developers are working on QT 5.6.1 for 16.10 as it is needed for Plasma 5.7 and beyond. But it's not ready yet. [02:08] DarinMiller: i being told by #plasma that plasma keeps crashing every 10 minutes because i need to update qt https://www.irccloud.com/pastebin/nxVMvzM0/ [02:09] fuze: Are you running 16.04? [02:09] yes [02:09] DarinMiller: also isnt 5.7 the latest version, why work with 5.6.1? [02:11] fuze: Yes, 5.7 is the latest QT version. Since Kubuntu is a mix of debian and Canonical, the Kubuntu devs are somewhat resticted by their default packages which are QT 5.5. [02:12] Some of the more experienced developers have moved on to other projects which has drained some of the packaging resources. [02:12] DarinMiller: do you know how long it will be until 16.10 is released [02:13] :) 16 stand for the year, 10 stands for the month. So near the end of October will be the release date. [02:14] are all linux versions dated like that? [02:15] fuze: Have you enable backports ppa? It has more current versions of plasma and framework (5.6.4 and 5.22 respectively). [02:15] both of those may reduce the crashing frequency. [02:16] DarinMiller: im not sure what that is but all my ppa for ubuntu say xenial [02:16] fuze: sudo apt-add-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports [02:17] fuze: sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade [02:17] DarinMiller: what is the backport repo? [02:18] When the Kubuntu developer are adding new packages for the next release of Kubuntu, the often put compatible new packages in a "backports" ppa to make it easy for people on older releases to install updated packages. [02:19] Reference: https://launchpad.net/~kubuntu-ppa/+archive/ubuntu/backports === Guest89679 is now known as Mamarok__ [02:21] DarinMiller: ok awesome. are you a developer? === Mamarok__ is now known as Mamarok [02:21] for kubuntu === Mamarok is now known as Guest35980 === Guest35980 is now known as Mamarok [02:22] fuze: I wish. I watch the #kubuntu-devel channel often to try to learn the process. But most developers are on Euro schedules. So by the time I am home from work, they are headed off to bed. Hopefully one of these days I can start assisting. [02:23] oh i see, well i hope you can assist too :) === claydoh is now known as Guest68873 [02:25] fuze: currently, I try to test new packages to ensure they install/run without issue so I am familiar with the process flow but not with the detail required to create my on PPA or troubleshoot packages the do not automatically build. === littlebunnyfufu is now known as SonikkuAmerica [02:48] thanks DarinMiller [02:49] fuze: Ubuntu uses that dating scheme [02:50] ahoneybun: that seems scary for an apparently dwindling dev team to have deadlines like that [02:50] yes it does limit somethings we can do for KDE projects [02:50] Qt being one of them === claydoh is now known as Guest71349 === claydoh is now known as Guest63046 === mw_ is now known as aethersis [07:55] hello, do you have problems with plasma crashing in 16.04 too? === andreas_ is now known as andreas__ [08:56] hi [09:02] trying to burn Kubuntu image on dvd with K3b [09:04] Burned media [09:04] ----------------------- [09:04] DVD-R Sequential [09:04] Devices [09:04] ----------------------- [09:04] TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L632D SC04 (/dev/sr0, CD-R, CD-RW, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD-R DL, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD+R DL) [DVD-ROM, DVD-R Sequential, DVD-R Dual Layer Sequential, DVD-R Dual Layer Jump, DVD-RAM, DVD-RW Restricted Overwrite, DVD-RW Sequential, DVD+RW, DVD+R, DVD+R Dual Layer, CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW] [SAO, TAO, RAW, SAO/R96P, SAO/R96R, R [09:48] Trying today burn Kubuntu on dvd. Need help [09:48] K3b says error while writing [09:49] I tried with another burner, same error [09:49] Xfburn same error [09:50] I changed speed, from auto to 12x,same error [09:52] hello [09:57] Doing another download of Kubuntu 16 04 just in case, But convince former file is correct [09:59] hi, why dont you boot from usb_ [10:00] zenesc: try a different media brand or speed [10:04] the iso should be ok. agree with trying a different dvd brand. depends on the burner, but some just don't work well with some hardware === kat is now known as Guest19525 [12:06] nice, I am not baned from this ubuntu channel [12:07] any ops want to unban me from #ubuntu-ops so we can talk about this like adults? [12:59] Howdy folks [13:10] heya [13:11] one of my users isn't showing up in the user manager [13:12] since it is on the login screen it's mostly fine [13:12] but I'd like to change the avatar [13:49] Driminicus: system settings>account details>user manager>choose your username , then your username image, image from file , then path to avatar file or picture file ...whatever suits your fancy [13:51] thanks [13:51] but the problem is that one of the users doesn't show up there [13:51] which makes it hard to choose the username [13:55] Driminicus: does this help? http://askubuntu.com/questions/79565/add-user-to-existing-group [13:57] the audio thing is just an example the proper commands are further down the page [14:00] thanks, but now I would need to figure out which group to add the 'missing' user to, for it to show up in usermanager. [14:00] I have three user, all three show up in the login manager [14:01] but only two of them show up in the usermanager [14:02] I've compared the groups all users are a member of [14:03] 2 of those users (one who does show up in usermanager and one who doesnt) are members of all the same groups [14:05] Driminicus: it could be a permissions problem , one user not having the same priveleges as another, but I'm just speculating [14:05] right, I see [14:05] I'll look into it [14:06] but I probably should try logging in as the user missing from usermanager [14:06] to see if it does show up then [14:06] if it doesn't I'll be back after loggin in as the other user ;-) [14:06] thanks for your thoughts! [14:06] np [14:14] ok, so as it turns out [14:14] if I login as the 'missing' user [14:14] it does show up in the usermanager [14:14] I think it might be related to this bug: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=336994 [14:15] KDE bug 336994 in kcontrol module "User Manager does not show one particular user in the list unless I login as that user" [Normal,Unconfirmed] [14:15] so I have a workaround [14:15] just thought I would report back, and thanks for your help [14:25] Driminicus: glad to hear you at least have a workaround, i wasn't aware of the bug , thanks for the info [14:25] no problem, we're all in this together ;-) [14:26] yup, we sure are :-) [14:28] ok I have to check my Yakkety install , biab === rocket__ is now known as away === away is now known as Guest48385 [16:40] ola === Jobava_ is now known as Jobava === Jobava_ is now known as Jobava === heinkel_111 is now known as heinkel_flying === JosefFilzmaier_ is now known as JosefFilzmaier === gaugeinvariance is now known as neutrinomass === McLive_ is now known as McLive === heinkel_flying is now known as heinkel_111 === heinkel_111 is now known as heinkel_flying === kubuntu is now known as Guest95256 === widget is now known as tinheadned === HmpfCBR_ is now known as HmpfCBR === AciD- is now known as AciD`
