x2xx3xhi all, i tried to install google-earth but it did not work. On the forum was suggested to install "libgl1-mesa-glx:i386". oh man - it removed a lot of packages and started with a lot of unity-crap. so i panicked and closed the terminal. now my system wont start a GUI but i have got a login prompt. it was an 14.04-mate installation. can i fix this or am i better with a complete new installation?07:59

Akuliopen the real /etc/resolv.conf (not the one on your broken system) in a text editor08:08
Akulithen run 'sudo nano /mnt/etc/resolv.conf' and copy-paste the content to nano08:08
Akuliexit and save with Ctrl+X08:08
x2xx3xok08:10
x2xx3xdone08:11
Akulichange root there: sudo chroot /mnt /bin/bash08:12

MarioMeyHello.13:25
MarioMeyI'm trying to configure a VNC with a computer in local net.13:25
MarioMeyBoth Ubuntu-Mate 14.04.13:26
MarioMeyInstalled Vino in server computer and configured the password and not to confirm the remote using.13:26
MarioMeyInstalled Remmina and Vinagre in this computer... but none of them find the other computer.13:26
MarioMeyNor with the IP, neither by looking for it.13:27
MarioMeyI didn't change the port, neither.13:27
ouroumovhi MarioMey13:31
ouroumovMarioMey, I don't think installing Vino in Xenial makes it start automatically13:31
ouroumovTry and start it manually on your server from a terminal13:31
ouroumovcommand: /usr/lib/vino/vino-server13:32
MarioMeyouroumov, Ubuntu is Trusty...13:32
MarioMeyOh, let me see...13:32
ouroumovMarioMey, oh13:32
ouroumovRight, sorry, read too fast13:32
ouroumovWell, that's weird. Are you sure you configured your client properly?13:32
ouroumovMy config is the following:13:32
MarioMeyYes, I tried it with a Virtual Box here... and it was not activated. I'm trying with the real computer.13:33
MarioMeyRight now...13:33
MarioMeyouroumov, you said.13:35
MarioMeyI though that vino, when installed, it got activated.13:35
ouroumovMarioMey, in 14.04 I think it does13:36
ouroumovit does get activated *13:36
ouroumovAnyway on the server you got to go to the program vino-preferences and enable desktop sharing13:36
ouroumovOn the client: Set Remmina to new VNC connection, in 'Basic' input the server's IP then go to SSH tab and check "Enable SSH tunnel", "Tunnel via loopback" and provide username13:37
ouroumovOn the server issue the command: gsettings set org.gnome.Vino network-interface lo13:38
MarioMeyouroumov: if I don't run vino-server, it doesn't work.14:19
MarioMeyI just close the server by Ctrl-C in terminal that I run the server... now, I can't find it.14:19
MarioMeyMaybe, when vino was installed, it goes to Startup Applications... but I don't know14:20
MarioMeyI didn't reboot that computer.14:20
MarioMeyNow, I have a doubt...14:20
MarioMeyCan't I use JPG compression with Remmina?14:20
ouroumovMarioMey, I don't know about the compression14:25
ouroumovMarioMey, at least if you're running 14.04 you'll have a clear path to set vino as a service. I haven't found how to do that in systemd yet14:25
MarioMeyouroumov, JPG compression starts at 15bits color. 256 has no compression.14:27
MarioMeyWhat is systemd?14:27
ouroumovThe new init system14:28
MarioMeyOH.14:28
ouroumovMarioMey, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SystemdForUpstartUsers14:29
MarioMeyOk... good luck with that. I prefer staying in 14.04.14:34
MarioMey(for the moment)14:34
ouroumovNot blaming you14:34
IONtesthi all14:48
MarioMeyOther topic:14:50
MarioMeyI'm testing Virtual-Box with Ubuntu-Mate.14:50
MarioMeyBy installing Guest-Addition in the conventional way, it didn't work.14:50
MarioMeySo, I installed by terminal.14:50
MarioMeyIt works, the screen changes its dimensions.14:51
MarioMeyBut  I want to configure a shared folder... and it ask me for GuestAdditions...14:51
MarioMeyHow should I mount it?14:51
MarioMeyThe folder doesn't appear in Net folders.14:52
ouroumovSorry MarioMey, my VB-foo is a little rusty. You're welcome to wait for someone else to provide an answer and you can also post on the forum: more exposure14:56
MarioMeyOk, thanks.14:57
randallMarioMey, install guest additions, it can be obtained the same website you should've gotten vb, which isn't the software center15:01
MarioMeyI'm reinstalling it, with a video-tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsVi3ulnO0Y15:01
MarioMey(video: 15.10, mine: 14.0415:02
MarioMey))15:02
randalloh, rock on then15:02
MarioMeyrandall: I've reinstalled GuestAdditions and reboot.15:05
MarioMeyed15:05
MarioMeyBut I can't find shared folders.15:05
MarioMeyIt can't show "network:///", it says.15:06
randallyou gotta set those up seperatly, before you log into your virtual machine15:06
MarioMeyshould I turn it off?15:06
randallyeah, you gotta, then go into the settings for that virtual machine and look around for shared folders15:08
fifty-sevenCNSF is great for virtual machines15:09
NeueMannHey guys, I'm having a little bit of an issue. Whenever software updater pops up in my system tray, I click it and it disappears. Not only that but after it disappears, I start having issues with my keyboard. Shortcuts such as the volume and mute keys stop working.15:09
fifty-sevenCOr smb if you need windows zupport too15:09
NeueMann*running programs list (not system tray).15:09
fifty-sevenChmm15:10
MarioMeyrandall: I did it... and I still can't access to them.15:11
randallMarioMey, you loaded the guest additions into the vb and clicked to install inside the vb right?15:11
MarioMeyI installed by running file.run15:12
MarioMeyI installed it some days ago by doing:15:12
MarioMeysudo apt install virtualbox-guest-additions-iso15:12
fifty-sevenCNeueMann, open a terminal and type 'lsof +D /dev/input'15:13
randallyes, now you gotta add that iso to the vb where you once had the iso to install that os in that vb15:13
MarioMeyWhere is that iso?15:14
randalllook in your downloads folder15:14
NeueMannfifty-sevenC what is that supposed to do?15:14
fifty-sevenClist anything using your keyboard or mouse15:15
NeueMannNothing was printed.15:15
fifty-sevenCActually do 'sudo !!'15:15
fifty-sevenCIt will print this time15:15
TheSilentLinkhello I am using ubuntu-mate and I changed the default terminal app but it is not changing when I use ctrl+alt+t. Anyone know why?15:16
MarioMeyrandall:  you say that by installing virtualbox-gest-additions-iso, a ISO file was copied to Downloads?15:16
MarioMeyThere's nothing there...15:16
fifty-sevenCNeueMann, ?15:17
randallhang on MarioMey I'm gonna do do that and see if I can see where it went15:17
NeueMannhttp://pastebin.com/mevYZvjj15:17
MarioMeyOk15:17
fifty-sevenCLooks normal to me15:18
NeueMann:(15:18
fifty-sevenCYou could always try restarting your session.15:18
fifty-sevenCctrl+alt+bckspce  but this will kill all your open apps15:19
NeueMannAnd now it's working again. Then the software updates will popup in my running programs, I will click it, and everything will stop. I have rebooted several times.15:19
fifty-sevenCWell maybe whatever it was had terminated before running lsof so wasn't listed?15:19
NeueMannThe software updates dialog doesn't even come up though. Once I click it, it terminates and I have to run apt-get dist-upgrade in the terminal.15:20
MarioMeyrandall: it seems that the folder is already there... but I can't access it.15:25
MarioMeyIn /media, there is /sf_paquete ("paquete" is the name of the folder)15:25
randallI gotta do it meself to be able to tell you how to do it15:25
MarioMeyI got denied access.15:25
MarioMeyOk.15:25
fifty-sevenCNeueMann, try sudo apt-get install --reinstall update-notifier15:26
NeueMannNow we wait. . . :)15:27
randallMarioMey, I had to install vb first, now I'm making a virtual machine, I'll get back to you when it's done15:31
MarioMeyOh, thanks!15:31
MarioMeyEehehh..... I had 4.3.36.... now, I'm downloading 5.0.16!15:33
MarioMeyLet's see if something different happens...15:33
randallit might15:34
MarioMeyNo, nothing.15:38
randallhey MarioMey, just to eliminate it as a possibility, check the permissions on that folder on the host os15:41
TheSilentLinkHello can anyone help me change the default keybind for terminal to open terminator15:49
