tarpmanBert_2: I'm afraid I don't know anything about fail2ban. trying pam_unix first and pam_ldap second makes sense, though I can't remember if those logs are normal. unfortunately I don't have time right now to spin up a test environment to confirm what "normal" looks like00:22

lunaphytehi.  i noticed this message at boot: "Waiting up to 60 more seconds for network configuration..."01:09
tewardlunaphyte: it means network autoconfiguration hasn't completed yet01:09
tewardwhether that's because of a misconfiguration in your settings or no uplink to DHCP or such and thus not getting an IP or route, I can't say01:10
lunaphytewhat i'd like to understand it why ubuntu takes so long to bring the interface up01:10
lunaphytethe config is pretty pedestrian, i think: http://dpaste.com/1H6M3HH.txt01:11
lunaphyteno dhcp, no hotplug devices.  just a single traditional interface, with a single fixed address01:11
sarnoldwhen the system does come up, is the name of the device 'eth0'?01:13
patdk-lapmine is enp133s0f001:15
patdk-lapkindof short :(01:15
lunaphyteit looks to be: http://dpaste.com/23MXM13.txt01:15
patdk-lapI know I fixed this same thing last month, but cannot remember what it was now01:19
patdk-lapoh, I remember01:19
patdk-lapthe gateway would not get assigned, no matter how hard I tried01:19
patdk-lapcausing it to keep on waiting01:20
sarnoldthat's crazy :(01:23
sarnoldlunaphyte: okay, what I'm about to suggest seems like .. ahem .. lunacy, but I've got no other ideas.01:24
sarnoldlunaphyte: try adding a blank line or two at the end of the file.01:24
patdk-lapsarnold, I did that, doesn't help01:33
sarnoldpatdk-lap: damn01:33
sarnoldI mean, that's probably best, because it's silly.01:34
patdk-lapI am using like 4 files in interfaces.d01:34
sarnoldbut it's annoying to have no answers01:34
patdk-lapand modified this line to include .conf01:34
patdk-lapsource /etc/network/interfaces.d/*.conf01:34
patdk-lapcause it causes it to not work if it locates bak files01:34
patdk-lapor maybe that was my problem, till I realized it01:36
lunaphytesarnold: it doesn't appear to have made a difference here either02:12
lunaphyteit sure would be nice if ubuntu would just tell me *why* it's waiting02:12
sarnoldlunaphyte: hmm. I found a very similar message, "Waiting up to %d more seconds for network." -- is this it? http://sources.debian.net/src/linux/4.6.2-2/net/ipv4/ipconfig.c/?hl=279#L27902:17
patdk-lapyes02:17
patdk-lapatleast after it fails the first time :)02:17
lunaphytesarnold: it's really close to that, but not quite: http://oi65.tinypic.com/2m4vrcw.jpg02:57
lunaphytefrom what i understand, it comes from here: http://dpaste.com/0M3KQCE.txt02:58

ddellavcoreycb i got caught up working on the oslo's yesterday and didn't get a chance to send this to you, please review and push: lp:~ddellav/ubuntu/+source/python-glance-store15:02
coreycbddellav, ok I'll take a look15:02
stgraberrbasak: commented, my best guess is that the reporters turned off IPv6 and now services binding [::] fail on their system, which is to be expected and not something we should spend any time on fixing15:37
rbasakstgraber: thanks!15:42
naccrbasak: just try running it again15:42
naccrbasak: i get thsoe intermittently quite frequently15:43
naccrbasak: if it's reproducible, there are cases where something is missing, but they are exceedingly rare (IME)15:43
rbasakstgraber: with the number of people claiming they're affected, either they're hitting different issues and are confused or maybe they're all using a hacked up VPS Ubuntu that disables IPv6 perhaps.15:44
stgraberrbasak: yeah, my guess is that they're either on the same provider which turns off IPv6 for them or they're all using the same set of scripts that does it15:45
naccrbasak: will reply onlist as well15:45
rbasaknacc: thanks. I'll retry.15:45
stgraberrbasak: I do remember seeing a bunch of howtos and hardening scripts which were disabling IPv6 (for no good reason really, if anything, IPv4 is the one to disable :))15:45
rbasakstgraber: I disabled IPv6 for years until I caught up with my firewall scripts. Otherwise restricting IPv4 only fails to have the desired effect :)15:46
naccrbasak: and if you passed -d (or --no-clean), you can just pass the same directory and it should continue15:46
naccrbasak: it's possible that on failure, we shouldn't clean by default for this case15:47
stgraberrbasak: making sure you don't have an IPv6 address with "echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/all/autoconf" works fine and we support that (that's what NetworkManager does when you turn off IPv6), what's failing is when you turn it off entirely, either with the kernel boot parameter or by doing "echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/all/disable_ipv6"15:47
stgraberI guess the other usual suspecs (bind9, apache2, ...) are probably a bit more clever as to what they bind whereas tftpd-hpa has to be told so when the address can't be resolved, it just fails entirely15:48
naccrbasak: just double-checked via publishinghistory and that file does exist15:49
naccrbasak: we could also add retries -- maybe note this is a usability bug15:49
rbasakI believe the current advice from the systemd world is to pick up interfaces changing and adjust binds dynamically.15:49
rbasaknacc: yeah - if it's normal then we'll need retries to make automated imports work reliably. I'll file a bug.15:50
rbasaknacc: I also filed bug 1597414. I figure we might as well have bugs to track these issues, since one goal is to never error out.15:53
ubottubug 1597414 in usd-importer "isc-dhcp cannot be imported" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/159741415:53
naccrbasak: iirc, that one is why we have -P15:53
naccs/iirc/iiuc/15:53
naccjust replied on list to that one too15:53
nacci suppose we could take that check out of the algorithm, though? and just trust the publishing history?15:54
rbasakShall we see how often this occurs? ~100 entries forever would probably be OK I think, if it's only historical and doesn't happen any more.15:55
naccrbasak: yeah, we've had 2 cases so far :)15:55
naccrbasak: i like that sanity check, because it is surprising when it happens15:55
rbasaknacc: so in this case, 4.2.2.dfsg.1-5+deb70u2 was already in Wheezy. So should the publishing parent be the same version?15:56
naccrbasak: no, the publishing parent should be 4.2.4-415:57
rbasaknacc: I'm not quite with it today I think, thanks.15:57
naccas that was the last version in debian/sid15:57
rbasakAh, I see.15:58
naccand then you'd need to manually check the changelog to konw what the changelog parent should be15:58
rbasakAnd the changelog parent version I can fetch from the changelog entry. Thanks!15:58
naccrbasak: it's ok, i'm just waking up :)15:59
