[01:17] hi, can I make "other updates" install automatically? there's only a display option and I only use this computer as a seedbox, so I don't mind updates === emma- is now known as emma|offline === justin is now known as Guest43854 [07:30] flexiondotorg: I FINALLY got round to installing Ubuntu Mate! Yay! I installed it for my grandad on his aging netbook on the weekend and he seems very happy with it. No wifi issues so far, which was my main concern going off all the LAS FUD ;) [07:32] In fact, it was because he was having wifi connection issues that I upgraded him from Xubuntu 14.04 to Ubuntu MATE 16.04 [07:35] flexiondotorg: The main thing I think this distro is missing is the MATE menu search plugin/mod like the Antergos MATE desktop has. Have you considered adding such a feature? Would you? [07:36] Its a python jobby but I don't recall its name off the top of my head [07:38] I'm currently contemplating switching my main machine from Arch back to Debian Testing now that OpenZFS is in the testing repos [07:41] I'll miss the AUR and pacman as I prefer pacman and PKGBUILDS to debs but I feel quality control and stability is higher for Debian. If I do return to Debian I expect I'll still keep an Arch install to for testing new stuff out [07:42] Prob my fave thing from Arch that I'd like to see in Debuntu is something like bacman [07:43] Thats saved me a lot of hassle on a few occasions === rw is now known as Guest82318 [09:17] Anyone here?[ === PaulW2U_ is now known as PaulW2U [12:47] Does Ubuntu MATE scale resolution with the screen it is connected to? [12:54] mate|17376: I think you mean does MATE scale its panel and fonts etc when attached to a higher res display, right? [12:54] mate|17376: No, it doesn't yet [12:58] someone working with the pine64 UbuntuMate ? [15:21] hello [15:22] any one ? [15:22] Could someone help me ? [17:22] Hello === tyler is now known as Guest3997 [17:23] Hello! Does anybody know how to dual boot Ubuntu mate 15.04 64bit and ubuntu 16.04 64 bit (or amd64) [17:49] can't you just use the 16.04 live cd/usb? the installation wizard should offer you an option called 'install alongside ubuntu 15.04' [18:23] Will the new snapd be automatically installed via updates? or will I have to install manually? [19:10] https://ubuntu-martin.org/blog/ubuntu-mate-yakkety-alpha1/ === Guest82318 is now known as randyw|away [19:19] hi, how can i stop caja when it tries to start >1000times? [19:20] Whats caja? [19:23] the window managaer i guess [19:32] Caja is the same as nautilus [19:32] a file browser/manager. [19:34] ya, and it keeps starting over and over [19:35] so - do you have htop installed? [19:36] top is installed, but get htop installed. it will make it a lot easier. [19:36] ya, it says wnck applet is on top usage of my cpu nearly 80% [19:37] or even better spreco. Do you have a keyboard with one of those buttons for opening a file manager? Maybe the key is stuck? [19:37] !? [19:37] so - kill that process with the command 'kill (proscess id)' [19:38] it was just a long shot.. [19:38] but, kill the offending proscess. [19:39] tried to do so, but than my bottom taskbar crashes [19:39] and every app in it [19:40] weird. [19:40] and a reboot did not fix it? [19:41] so when i than restart everything but "Fensterliste", what maybe means something like "windowslist" - it stops [19:41] but caja doesn't start at all [19:41] even reinstalling didn't changed it [19:42] what changes did you do when this error appeared? [19:42] this is realy wierd [19:44] long story short: i updated everything and than tried do clone my system via clonezilla, i checked the cd in virtuabox and killed the virtuabox before i started the clonig which wasn't succesful [19:45] i than started my pc and the windowthing appeared [19:45] purge the package and reinstall it. [19:46] a new installation wouldn't be a big deal but i would like to try it [19:46] might solve your issue. or delete it's .config folder. [19:46] purge? [19:46] it should repopulate the configs. [19:46] apt-get purge [19:46] via apt-get [19:46] ok [19:46] *package name* [19:47] it's called maximus. [19:47] the window manager for mate. [19:47] fuck ^^ [19:48] lol [19:48] i uninstalled caja^^ [19:48] what happened? [19:48] ah [19:48] its as simple as reinstalling [19:48] reinstall? [19:48] or you could dl nautilus - which i find is a better manager anyway [19:49] mr garshol, sir [19:49] yes, spreco? [19:49] it's done - my system is up and running [19:49] Cool! [19:49] purge was the key [19:49] glad I could help :) [19:49] sweet! [19:49] thank u so very much [19:50] then it was something in the .config that was fsckd. [19:50] that's awesome [19:50] no problem! :) [19:50] give me a shout if it fscks up again, k? [19:50] im usually on here. [19:51] i will, thank u :) [19:53] ah, i tried to show my desktop and it's broke again :P [19:53] weird. [19:54] purge and reinstall maximus. [19:54] its the display manager. [19:54] you should do it from tty [19:54] maximus isn't installed? [19:54] ctrl+alt+1 through 7. [19:54] your desktop lives on 7. [19:54] fyi. [19:55] nothing happens... [19:56] what's the issue exactly? [19:56] same as before? [19:56] ya [19:56] installed nautilus [19:56] good. [19:56] purged caja [19:57] set it as default in system settings / default apps. [19:57] so - how di i integrate nautilus the way caja was integrated? [19:57] so kind, thank you [19:57] that's the integration. set as default. [20:00] hm [20:04] i can't or i doesn't work [20:04] oh? [20:04] what's not working? [20:09] spreco: what's not working? [20:09] you could go to control center, and prefered applications towards the bottom. [20:11] ya, this is what isn't working, i restarted the system tryin it again [20:11] k [20:13] nautilus isn't showd in filemanager [20:13] shown [20:13] weird. [20:14] xdg-mime default nautilus.desktop inode/directory application/x-gnome-saved-search [20:14] sets it as default [20:19] thanks for ur affort [20:19] np [20:20] but i'll install new, i guess i'll get another ssd so it's "necessary anyways" *cough* ^^ [20:21] spreco: try this though: http://askubuntu.com/a/234532 [20:21] lol [20:21] till that point i may handle it like i do it right now [20:21] it's always necessary. =) [20:22] ok, firefox doesn't like me, too [20:22] yaa, i guess i will defintively install new ^^ [20:43] thank you and cya :) [20:44] bye === emma|offline is now known as emma- [21:54] Does anybody know, how to solve this problem: [21:54] mate-panel crashed with SIGSEGV in strlen() [21:58] sigserv .. sounds low level .. what are you running this from -- the shell [21:58] where is the message from [21:58] what did you do to the panel [21:59] have you googled the errror message :) ... there is ubuntu forums / mate forums [21:59] this place isn't always that busy [21:59] obscure problem [22:02] nomic, this message comes directly after booting system.. in problem window..
