[05:32] Morning everyone [06:15] morning all [06:18] good morning Kilos [06:20] hi nsnzero superfly inetpro andrewlsd chesedo paddatrapper Sicelo theblazehen and other lurkers [06:20] ellooooo [06:22] flush them out [06:22] Hey Kilos [06:22] /nick other_lurkers [06:22] morning :-) [06:22] hahah hi there thatgraemeguy [06:26] morning paddatrapper, thatgraemeguy, Kilos, nsnzero anton_may [06:26] Hey superfly [06:30] Morning superfly [06:30] hi yolo-bro [06:30] welcome to ubuntu-za [06:31] oh its zipper [06:31] and urbanslug [06:32] lol [06:38] Kilos: Hello [06:38] lol === yolo-bro is now known as zipper [06:51] i go do chores [06:52] in the snow :o brave man [06:55] sshhhhh [06:56] woolly sheep dont get cold [06:56] its just the sucker that lets them out that suffers [06:58] sigh not even any sun showing [07:05] lol [07:17] hi Kilos [07:35] morning Kilos paddatrapper nsnzero anton_may thatgraemeguy superfly zipper and others [07:36] Mornings chesedo [07:54] Good morning. [08:06] morning dlPhreak [08:22] chesedo: How are you? [08:25] great thanks and self dlPhreak [08:25] *? [08:27] Pretty good thanks [08:35] You're from PTA right, chesedo ? [08:36] power gone with the wind [08:36] wbb [08:36] dlPhreak: yes [08:36] Are you part of PLUG? [08:37] dlPhreak: nope (or atleast i do not think that i'm on the mailing list) [08:38] chesedo: Do you perhaps know how many people actively attend PLUG gatherings? [08:39] dlPhreak: no, did not even know they had any... [08:41] That's no surprise given that their home page looks like it fell throught time from 1997.. [08:56] they are mostly on Google Groups [08:56] actually, sorry, I'm thinking of GTPUG [09:57] good mornings [10:19] Hi inetpro [10:25] sigh [10:28] En nou Kilos ? [10:28] power cuts as usual [10:28] power blows away with the wind [10:29] That sucks. [10:39] Well. Looks like you can't easily boot a 4.7.0 kernel on a galaxy note 2.. Might need to recompile glibc or something maybe as well? I just did the kernel, and don't use loadable modules, so that shouldn't be an issue [10:41] theblazehen: what are you trying to do ? [10:42] nsnzero: upgrade the kernel to at least 3.12 (currently 3.10.64 IIRC?), so I can run lxd [10:42] Otherwise I might be able to do lxc now [10:43] I think 3.0.64 actually [10:44] I just copied the config from https://github.com/cyanogenmod/android_kernel_samsung_smdk4412, pasted it in by new kernel source, enabled namespaces etc and then built it [10:44] >"make randconfig" Create a ./.config file by setting symbol [10:44] values to random values. [10:44] Sounds like a great idea! [10:47] correct me if i am wrong - but isnt cynogenmod using an android kernel - not linux ? [10:55] theblazehen: What was that cheap domain name company you were talking about a while ago? [10:56] nsnzero: Android kernel = linux with some fancy settings [10:56] paddatrapper: Was it namecheap.com? [10:57] theblazehen: Sounds familiar. Thanks [10:58] theblazehen: you want to put linux onto a note 2 ? [10:58] nsnzero: Yeah. Display is broken [10:59] has a quad core 1.6 GHz CPU, and 2 GB ram [10:59] might as well put it to some use [10:59] And nice to test things on other architectures [10:59] Like this fun zsh thing: killzsh(){if true; then killzsh; fi};killzsh [10:59] git bisect shows different results depending on gcc -O levels on linux amd64 [11:00] And doesn't crash at all on freebsd [11:00] amd64 as well [11:00] Wanna try arm as well [11:04] Has anybody run this script? It adds 7ms delay for network packets [11:04] tc qdisc add dev eno2 root netem delay 7ms [11:12] theblazehen: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2171383 [11:12] theblazehen: ubtuntu touch on a note 2 [11:12] theblazehen: hope it helps [11:15] nsnzero: I know about it. It didn't boot a few years back (at least not to GUI), but the kernel is still too old for lxd. Even too old for plain lxc. I've managed to kill off most of android after I set up the chroot, and I've at least got a kernel that can do lxc on gentoo. IIRC ubuntu touch doesn't have a really nice userland either, just a little better than android. Was pretty much, oh I can't just use systemd/openrc/upstart [11:15] directly.. Hmm. Maybe I can at least do containers on ubuntu touch, and just not touch the host os. Looks like that [11:15] 's not gonna work [11:16] But got a sshd on gentoo running [11:17] So I boot up android, then have a script that adb shell's in to android, starts the usb nic, configures it to run a dhcp client (have it bridged to my normal network on the other end), start the gentoo container, and then kill pretty much everything android. [11:19] Hello [11:19] hi ra1v3n [11:19] Maaz nickometer ra1v3n [11:19] Kilos: ra1v3n is 99.4% lame [11:20] theblazehen: thats beyond my tinkering [11:20] yeh very hard to type nick that [11:26] hello [11:28] hi [11:30] hello nsnzero [11:31] whats up ra1v3n [11:31] The Ceiling? [11:32] lol [11:33] ;P [12:01] almost home time - take care guys [12:02] bye bye [12:02] cheers nsnzero [12:19] HALLO FREINDLY FRIENDS [12:22] hello jerit [12:22] but why are you screaming? [12:23] hi hi [12:23] anyone who gets the "friendly friends" reference will know why its all caps :P [12:24] orkay? [12:24] a character from an old kids show I used to watch when I was small always said it really loud when he came on screen lol [12:24] orkay? [12:24] don't rightly remember the show's name though... Kideo maybe? [12:37] I have no Idea [12:37] <--------------Ancient [12:42] how old is ancient if you don't mind me asking? [12:42] 33 [12:42] then you should know the show I'm talking about [12:43] pumpkin patch was another such show [12:43] Does this bring back any memories? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OvXsP-xzjA [12:44] oh The Horror! [12:44] xD [12:44] wahahahahahaha [12:46] hi jerit [12:46] hi hi Kilos [13:16] Kilos, I found my websites [13:16] where were they [13:16] on a completely different server to the one I was looking at :/ [13:16] lol [13:16] right there where they should've been at /home/admin/web/ [13:17] on your pc? [13:58] jerit: Molly Metronome <-- Nightmare stuff. [14:01] anybody awake here? [14:02] duh [14:03] andrewlsd and yet we're not as messed up as the youth of today [14:04] Hello SEptic [14:06] andrewlsd this is turning my brain to goo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFYJm47JBmE [14:07] "I feel like singing a green song" lol omg [14:08] She got in early on the whole "Green" everything bandwagon. [14:08] IT [14:08] (not sure if that appears properly for you, but I was aiming for "green IT") [14:09] anyone else here freezing. It is seriously chilly today. [14:09] Tinking of sitting in the fridge to warm up. [14:09] s/Tinking/Thinking/ [14:10] lol, "stinkingin" [14:10] lol [14:10] My fingers have their own autocomplete it seems. [14:10] I think of something, start typing it, and then my fingers do whatever the heck they want to. [14:12] any1 else having shit with multiple monitors and 16.04? [14:13] seems especially so with intel HD graphics on dell laptops [14:16] SEptic: are both displays the same resolution? [14:17] laptop screen: 1366x768 [14:17] ext1: 1920x1080 [14:18] ext2: 1280x1080 [14:18] got 2 dell latitudes 5430 and a 5440 [14:19] i can kinda get 1 external screen to work ... but its iffy, 2 seems impossible [14:19] i know the 5430 only support 2 displays at a time and cant do 3 at the same time [14:20] andrewlsd I can't type login without typing my name which is not login [14:20] plug in an out and the resolution goes all whack and all jams [14:26] jerit its username [14:26] then it will want the password [14:28] you people do funny things [14:29] is your gui not working? why would you want to type login [14:40] aah, yeah, I sometimes have issues like that jerit. ... with nVidia hybrid graphics card :-( [14:43] theblazehen: galaxy note 2 uses glibc? i doubt [14:47] not sure though .. i don't have a droid here. [14:49] might be naughty of me to suggest -but you may want a Nokia N900 for that kind of stuff, lol ... much weaker hardware unfortunately, but still seems the closest thing you can get to Linux in your pocket [14:49] no chroot stuff needed .. just boot a proper distro of your choice [15:03] Sicelo: that is tru. [15:10] Kilos if I'm coding the login form or such, then I'll write functions and stuff called DoLogin or whatever [15:10] normally ends up DoLogan then I get excited and depressed at the same time coz nobody will do me [15:13] lol [15:25] lol. cheers folks, am off again. [15:26] cheers andrewlsd [15:26] * andrewlsd disconnects from Quassel Core. [15:41] Quassel Core? [15:41] dont you know quassel [15:41] comes with kde [15:41] hey guys... I've installed a ZNC bouncer on my ubuntu VM and I haven't had any connection issues today [15:41] thats a new one [15:41] irc chat client you can bounce with [15:42] not new pro and fly been using it for years [15:54] Sicelo: Pretty sure it does, lots of chroot apps in market. Also, neo900.org [16:33] http://elinux.org/Android_Mainlining_Project this is dissapointing [16:37] theblazehen: N900 & Neo900 do not need chroot. linux kernel can boot just fine, and the most stuff works in the mainline kernel. see http://elinux.org/N900 :) [16:38] using chroot is possible of course, but when you can put linux right on the hardware, why do it? [16:38] anyway, N900 is old now .. 256MB RAM is bad [16:39] Sicelo: Yeah, I would like one of those. [16:39] However I wanted something arm, and trying to get a normal linux on a old phone is more fun than qemu [16:41] maybe the Nexus line? [16:42] I don't have an old nexus though [16:42] If I didn't have an old android I wouldn't even be bothering with it [16:43] I have around 9 GB ram free on desktop, and around 27 GB free on vm/container host [16:43] Not hurting for processor power [16:43] And the android has a broken display, so nothing better to do with it [16:45] ahoy ZA! [16:46] hey pavlushka [16:47] aaa.. theblazehen , its been a while, missed you, :) [16:48] Yeah, been busy [16:51] yes my ppl [17:01] hello? [17:02] hi jerit [17:03] haha is that an age denying surname? [17:03] What? Young? No thats legit my surname [17:03] come on [17:03] you enjoy peeps calling you young [17:04] Actually nobody calls me young lol [17:04] lol [17:04] mister young [17:05] how old are you mr young [17:05] hehe [17:05] lol am 28, 29 on 20 Aug [17:05] oh my [17:05] still a baby [17:06] Trixar_za said folks here like to call you Oom Kilos [17:07] yes and i have no idea why [17:07] apparently you're like the old man on campus or something :P [17:07] maybe they like teasing [17:07] lol [17:10] so what would you say your linux experience level is at? [17:10] muhaha quantify the unquantifiable [17:10] oh my [17:10] irc greeter bot level [17:11] haha [17:11] and i can nag [17:11] i can install well [17:14] wonder where I am lol [17:14] jerit: we call him "oom" cause he is more than double your age... so seeing that he is a greeter bot that makes him OLD [17:14] you are in the best ubuntu channel on the planet [17:14] welcome to the channel btw [17:15] hi chesedo [17:16] ready for tomorrow nights meet chesedo ? [17:40] Sicelo: Not yet, but there's a few things I wanna write up in any case [17:40] Wrote a pretty long post on reddit the other day about my salt / docker setup, and my opinion on config management [17:41] Hi there guys, hi Kilos are you ok? [18:42] 20:16] <-- jerit (~jerit@197.89.203.153) has left this server (Read error: Connection reset by peer). [18:43] peer got you [18:43] happens a lot with mIRC :/ [18:43] oh we use proper clients [18:43] They gave me some info then suggested I get paid support [18:43] free ones that work [18:44] jan can you browse your site and see all your mails [18:44] Kilos like xchat? Please don't say xchat [18:44] yes [18:44] hexchat konversation quassel etc [18:45] then just download all your mails Langjan [18:45] or copy or something [18:45] not the mails, the addresses [18:45] ja that too [18:45] I need to export them in a format to import again [18:45] Langjan: paying to use a mailing list? Bad Idea! [18:46] No inetpro I have my own opt-in mailing list [18:48] Langjan: then please explain some more because I don't get it [18:49] Ok I have an outdated version of php list in my website where all my subscribers have registered to receive my newsletters [18:50] an outdated version you paid for? [18:50] Now I want to use php list via the web, its much cheaper than to get somebody to update the one on my site [18:50] Well the guy who designed my site put it on there as part of the package [18:50] eish [18:50] what does he say [18:51] he has not updated it for ages [18:51] hes not an easy guy to get on with [18:51] did you pay him as well? [18:51] eish [18:51] yes, but not much - you know the story, pay peanuts... [18:52] walk softly and carry a big stick [18:52] ? [18:53] if he is stroppy use the big stick till he says yessir whatever you say sir [18:53] * chesedo has found the opposite to be true in the IT world [18:53] he has many issues [18:54] Langjan: does address are probably on the database... do you have cPanel access for the site? Search Google for quassel irc org ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT [19:40] huh? [19:44] trying to download quassel irc client but its not working :( [19:45] trying to download quassel irc client but its not working :( [19:48] ok [19:49] jerit: the server is down for maintenance [19:50] can anyone send me a copy? :P [19:50] jerit: for windows? [19:51] yes please [19:51] jerit: the monolithic client, I presume? (the full IRC client) [19:51] I guess lol as long as I can connect to IRC and chat with people I'm happy [19:52] /kickban jerit for using windows [19:52] ]:p [19:52] :O [19:53] lol [19:53] TIL I can probably make up a mailing list entirely on google by doing a search for any local email provider [19:53] jerit: all the links I can find point back to the web site [19:53] haha [19:53] guess I'll try tomorrow then [19:54] web.archive.org maybe has a copy? [19:54] since my mIRC isn't connecting anymore anyway, I suppose I'll just keep using freenode's webchat [19:54] ima look [19:58] I feel people that hate systemd haven't used android before [19:58] meaning, android is worse? [19:58] Sicelo: Yes... :( [19:59] https://linx.home.theblazehen.com/qkh3guwc.ext [19:59] lol .. actually, those people *know* android sucks [19:59] Also, trying to disable selinux just makes it not load white list, so gives you a boot loop. That was a fun problem... [19:59] Android could be so much better [19:59] but they don't really have much choice as the alternatives suck more (win phone, ios) [20:00] yeah [20:00] Its like linux but with all the tools taken away [20:00] Exactly [20:00] somewhat like a bird with one wing [20:01] uuuuuuhhhhhh Your search - quassel site:web.archive.org - did not match any documents. [20:01] Its flies along in ever diminishing circles till it flies up its own * [20:03] ah all of a sudden it works again [20:03] anyway, ima go play wow [20:03] cyaz everybody [20:03] at debconf, there was not a single win phone, haha .. (or maybe the owner confined it to his pocket, haha). there were iphones here & there, but the overwhelming majority were the droids [20:05] yes well it is the best mobile OS [20:05] I use CYanogen Mod [20:05] that atleast gives me a terminal [20:06] and no annoying adds [20:06] I hate adverts [20:06] especially targeted marketing based upon previous searches [20:08] https://linx.home.theblazehen.com/dpmuhsbj.txt yay [20:08] I want to use sailfish os [20:08] now that's a good OS ;) [20:22] there was bad news this week about Cyanogen [20:23] https://news.slashdot.org/story/16/07/23/0021223/cyanogen-inc-reportedly-fires-os-development-arm-switches-to-apps [20:27] aw [20:28] thats nod Cyanogen MOD thats for Cyanogen OS [20:28] they are seperate projects by the same company [20:29] ra1v3n: tried replicant? [20:29] not yet could not flash it to my rom for some or other reason [20:30] it's backed by the FSF, so should be the most libre android around, at least in theory, :) [20:30] yeah, but there is likely a lot of cross development between the two, so it likely has negative impact for Cyanogen MOD as well [20:31] hopefully not, but we will see [20:32] MOD is more of an enthusiast hacker project and CyanogenOS is inn closed dev intended for sale [20:32] atlest thats how I understand the it [20:44] Sicelo: actually, I think I did spot once Windows phone, but I can't remember who... too many people in Front Desk -_- [20:45] DLange [20:50] oh :p [21:31] see ya guys! Good night :) [21:35] goodnight [22:43] goodnight
