OerHeksbut systemd got new tricks00:00
sudormrfcannot touch /forcefsck, read-only file system00:00
sudormrfgoing to have to reboot to live cd and fsck probably, right?00:00
Gallomimiarecovery mode might give you some leeway00:01
Gallomimiabut yeah. a liveCD can be very helpful00:02
sudormrfok00:02
sudormrfone sec00:02
Gallomimiai've taken to keeping mine handy (USB keys) and labeled00:02
sudormrfshould be something simple00:02
BillTheKidGallomimia: i don't really know what to say now :p00:02
BillTheKidGallomimia: where do i start reading?00:03
GallomimiaOerHeks: you're possibly the expertise i need. BillTheKid and i are troubleshooting his system. we've determined that fsck won't run properly on his LVM system. the filesystem seems.... defunct. any insight?00:03
MouaadHello, I just bough a new computer with intel i7-6500U (skylake) and amd radeon r7 , now what is the best ubuntu distribution to get both work (the processor and the graphical card) ?00:03
OerHeksouch, LVM is not really something i have done often :-(00:04
GallomimiaMouaad: 16.0400:04
OerHeksi read a lot of your conversation though00:04
GallomimiaOerHeks: i run it on my main system, and i still don't have any insight00:04
bashduplicateshello i was trying to install the fdupes command when i got this error message :00:04
bashduplicatesE: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable) E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?00:04
Gallomimiabashduplicates: you need to quit all programs that do installs00:04
MouaadGallomimia: but there is no fglrx in 16.04 !00:04
Mouaadis it okey ?00:05
bashduplicatesi am using my laptop on a virtual box, and nothing else is open00:05
Gallomimiabashduplicates: also you need to run the install with privliges. sudo00:05
bashduplicatesi used sudo00:05
BillTheKidGallomimia, OerHeks, I wish I have not used it too. I have no understanding of how it works and bit my ass now...00:05
OerHeksbashduplicates, use or bash or softwarecenter/synaptic .. or are there updates pending?00:05
NitrigaurGallomimia,, I have to close the chat now, going to go ahead with the distribution upgrade.00:05
Gallomimiais the filesystem read/only?00:05
GallomimiaNitrigaur: fabulous. good luck00:06
Mouaadit is not that simple to make hybrid-graphics work in 16.04...00:06
bashduplicatesGalomimia : it worked00:07
GallomimiaMouaad: er, i'm not sure actually. i switched to an nvidia card for that reason. but nvidia drivers got mainlined in 16.04. i've heard good things about it with radeons00:07
OerHeksMouaad, yes, see the releasenotes https://wiki.ubuntu.com/XenialXerus/ReleaseNotes#fglrx00:07
Gallomimiai mean... updates00:07
Gallomimiai've a question. is it better to use the 16.04.1 install disk? is there something i should do to my installed system to update it to that version? what's the difference?00:08
OerHeksthese GPUs are supported by the new AMDgpu™ RX 480 RX 470 R9 Fury/Fury X/Nano R9 M395X 390X M385 380X 360 290x 285 m270x 260x00:08
GallomimiaR7 is not in there.00:09
OerHeksGallomimia, the 16.04 was delayed some days, iirc, but oke to keep using it. 16.04.1 would be faster deployment00:09
MouaadI have: Intel Core i7-6500U and AMD Radeon R7 M360, but until now, i can't make them both work perfectly...00:10
BillTheKidGallomimia: would it be possible in couple of words to tell me what we try to restore so I can start googling? :)00:10
mustmodifyis this an error?00:10
mustmodifyOr just ... the expected output? https://gist.github.com/mustmodify/dddddf4d8f15279d6a07734e49e2699c00:10
GallomimiaBillTheKid: i just searched for LVM superblock lost and found some interesting results00:10
Gallomimiathe 2nd result00:10
BillTheKidthanks I'm going through it now00:11
Gallomimiaaw there's no solution posted. but we should try looking at lsblk00:13
OerHeksMouaad, seems like you ran into this bug00:13
OerHekshttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu/+bug/160398900:13
ubottuLaunchpad bug 1603989 in xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu (Ubuntu) " Radeon R7 not work in ubuntu xenial " [Undecided,New]00:13
OerHeksif so, please confirm00:13
Mouaadyes I did have this00:14
Gallomimiamustmodify: does your system have an mdadm raid involved?00:14
OerHeksi have read lots of tricks to get sometimes a result, like blacklisting nouveau .. worth a try00:15
MouaadI feel like trying 15.04.. there is drivers for my graphical card (http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/linux) and should support intel skylake processors...00:16
mustmodifyGallomimia: I don't know what that is, so I'll say no.00:17
mustmodifyI mean, I know what RAID is, and no.00:17
Gallomimiathen.. not sure why it's installed on your system. its not by default. i should think that error is not important00:18
GallomimiaBillTheKid: before you go much further, i suggest you post on the ubuntu forums for help. make a post like some of the ones you've seen, with all the pertinent outputs.00:19
Gallomimiaalso, we should look at the output of sudo lsblk00:19
Bashing-omMouaad: See: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2328993 . Maybe install the i965-va-driver ?00:19
BillTheKidGallomimia: http://pastebin.com/WzpwE6b200:20
sudormrfhmm....Oer00:21
mustmodifyGallomimia: ok, I'll take your word for it. :P00:21
sudormrfOerHeks, fsck /dev/sda1 reports clean, /dev/sda2 (extended) says can't read, /dev/sda5 (swap) says nothing00:21
GallomimiaBillTheKid: no surprizes there. still no idea how to repair the FS tho. sorry00:22
BillTheKidanyway Gallomimia, thank you so so much for trying to help me.00:22
BillTheKidreally appreciate it...00:22
Gallomimiai hope you can get it fixed :(00:23
Gallomimiai've spent weeks at a time with my system being offline due to similar problems. but at least i was able to read my files from a liveUSB00:23
sudormrfreboot, still the same thing00:24
Gallomimiasudormrf: which of those 3 partitions is your root filesystem?00:25
sudormrfGallomimia, /dev/sda100:25
Gallomimiaoh. and it said its clean..00:25
Gallomimiaare you on a liveUSB right now?00:26
sudormrfyep00:26
sudormrfI was, just rebooted again.  I can go back to the liveCD no problem00:26
Gallomimiait's still mounted r/o at this time? mount -l00:26
sudormrfin the liveCD environment?00:26
Gallomimiawell, right now00:26
Mouaadbashing-om, i will give it a shot, meanwhile anyway to make sure that i965-va-driver would work for Intel Core i7-6500U and AMD Radeon R7 M360 ?00:26
sudormrfGallomimia, same error when I log in directly00:27
Gallomimiait should still let us get a list of the mounts00:27
sudormrfGallomimia, and yes, it is mounted as RO00:27
bashduplicatesi am trying to run fdupes in the background but it doesnt respond...00:27
Gallomimiawonder why. try dmesg | tail00:28
sudormrfGallomimia, /dev/sda1 on / type ext4 (ro,relatime,data=ordered)00:28
sudormrfok00:28
Bashing-omMouaad: Well .. in 16.04 I am not certain of anything I might know in respect to ATI hybrid graphics .00:28
sudormrfGallomimia, that isn't showing me much.  only a cgroup entry00:28
Gallomimiasudormrf: you're looking for error messages about the drive00:28
Gallomimiauh... i think if you change the tail to less00:28
sudormrfGallomimia, just did that ;D00:29
sudormrfscrolling throuhg now00:29
Gallomimiaif you just do dmesg it will give you tons of output. that might be all you need00:29
Gallomimiai think the END key would work, and scroll up?00:29
Gallomimiawell. who knows... i'm not an expert at finding logged errors00:29
gebbionei am seeing errors (EE) open /dev/dri/card0: No such file or directory00:30
gebbioneany suggestions on what to do?00:30
gebbioneubuntu is stuck on blackscreen00:31
sudormrfso far nothing is jumping out at me00:31
sudormrfstill looking at it00:31
YankDownUndergebbione: When did this start happening?00:31
gebbioneafter uninstalling the old propritory amd driver00:32
Jordan_Usudormrf: Please pastebin the output of "sudo blkid" and "sudo parted -l".00:32
YankDownUndergebbione: How exactly did you "un-install" the driver?00:33
sudormrfJordan_U, ok, one sec00:33
gebbionefrom synaptic00:33
gebbionethen checked modprobe00:33
gebbioneand now blacklisted amdgpu00:33
Jordan_Usudormrf: Have you checked the drive's S.M.A.R.T. status? ( you can do so with gnome disks).00:33
gebbionebut the device error sounds like a different problem00:34
sudormrfJordan_U, blkid: http://paste.ubuntu.com/22975295/00:34
sudormrfJordan_U, parted: http://paste.ubuntu.com/22975373/00:34
=== boomer is now known as bitch
YankDownUndergebbione: Ok...fair enough, how about running this in a terminal: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade && sudo apt autoremove && sudo apt autoclean => then see if you're still getting that crappy error, eh?00:35
sudormrfJordan_U, it's not installed ATM.  I would have to do it from a live CD00:35
sudormrfunless there is another package other than smartmontools00:35
GallomimiaBillTheKid: checking the disk's smart status is something you should also do. just to see if the drive is doing alright. no reason to think its not yet00:36
gebbioneYankDownUnder, i have no network and no update is running as everything looks up to date00:36
Jordan_Usudormrf: Gnome Disks comes with Ubuntu by default.00:36
sudormrfJordan_U, ah, one sec00:37
Jordan_Usudormrf: And it would be best to do all of this via a LiveUSB anyway.00:37
BillTheKidGallomimia: I checked with disks tool on gUI it says its ok00:38
BillTheKidGallomimia: https://linuxexpresso.wordpress.com/2010/03/31/repair-a-broken-ext4-superblock-in-ubuntu/00:38
sudormrfJordan_U, gotcha.  booting in to the liveCD now00:38
BillTheKidany thoughts?00:38
YankDownUndergebbione: Ok - then what about: sudo apt autoremove && sudo apt autoclean =>  ??00:38
BillTheKidI'm about to do the last commands00:38
BillTheKidsudo mke2fs -n  /dev/ubuntu-vg/root00:38
sudormrfJordan_U, disk shows OK in gnome disk00:39
BillTheKidgave me back the backups of the supperblocks00:39
gebbioneYankDownUnder, auto remove suggests removing 850mg of stuff00:39
gebbionehaven't run auto clean00:39
YankDownUndergebbione: yes...that sounds about right - what? Are you worried about "apt" removing things that might cause you issues?00:40
gebbioneyes00:40
GallomimiaBillTheKid: it does seem like a good way to go00:40
gebbioneindeed00:40
Jordan_Usudormrf: The order of things to do once in the Live CD/USB : *first* check the smart status, then "sudo fsck -f /dev/sda1" (which causes fsck to check the filesystem even if it was unmounted cleanly).00:40
Gallomimiaoh. if you have results, i think you're about to fix the problem!00:40
gebbionei had fglrx and after removing it i have this problem now00:40
gebbioneso i am a bit worried00:41
YankDownUndergebbione: Your choice. "autoremove" generally removes configurations, drivers, stale programs unwanted or outdated things...00:41
sudormrfJordan_U, doing the fsck -f now.  let's see how that goes00:41
sudormrfI was just doing fsck /dev/sda1 before.00:41
BillTheKidGallomimia: from the logs that you told me to check I know "blk_update_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 503816"00:41
BillTheKidthe sudo mke2fs -n  /dev/ubuntu-vg/root returns:00:41
BillTheKidmke2fs 1.42.13 (17-May-2015) Creating filesystem with 239951872 4k blocks and 59990016 inodes Filesystem UUID: 79f178fa-2cb1-4404-82f2-c7e7b7a34865 Superblock backups stored on blocks:  32768, 98304, 163840, 229376, 294912, 819200, 884736, 1605632, 2654208,  4096000, 7962624, 11239424, 20480000, 23887872, 71663616, 78675968,  102400000, 21499084800:42
BillTheKidany intuition of which block should I choose? is the sector number of the log related to the block numbers above?00:42
sudormrfJordan_U, ok, no errors or anything.  next suggestion?00:42
Jordan_UYankDownUnder: gebbione: apt autotemove (without --purge) won't ever remove configuration files.00:42
GallomimiaBillTheKid: the instructions say the first one. but really any should do00:43
GallomimiaBillTheKid: i wonder what that error in the logs means?? maybe that's where the corrupted info on the filesystem is00:44
Jordan_Usudormrf: Boot back into your installed system and pastebin the output of "dmesg --human". That should tell us what error caused the kernel to remount ro.00:45
sudormrfJordan_U, okie dokie :)00:45
GallomimiaBillTheKid: before doing the reboot, i would try running the fsck on it, and try mounting it00:45
gebbioneJordan_U, it made no difference anyway00:45
sudormrfJordan_U, http://paste.ubuntu.com/22976437/00:46
BillTheKidGallomimia: that's why I asked if the sectors and the block numbers are related00:47
BillTheKidGallomimia: I'll try to fsck it again :)00:47
Gallomimiathey are related a bit. but the LVM makes them remapped00:47
BillTheKidit's deleting ynodes now00:48
BillTheKidinodes00:48
BillTheKidSuperblock needs_recovery flag is clear, but journal has data. Recovery flag not set in backup superblock, so running journal anyway. /dev/ubuntu-vg/root: recovering journal Pass 1: Checking inodes, blocks, and sizes Deleted inode 10499058 has zero dtime.  Fix<y>? yes00:48
Gallomimiasounds pretty good to me!00:50
Gallomimiathe journal is exactly the thing that your drive will now use to recover whatever got corrupted when the crash happened00:51

BillTheKidFree blocks count wrong for group #1 (31743, counted=8872). Fix<y>?00:53
sudormrfJordan_U, looks like UUID issue?00:53
BillTheKidI assume I keep pressing yes00:53
Gallomimiayour guess is as good as mine00:53
Gallomimiathe reason to run fsck is to fix all this stuff...00:53
sudormrfJordan_U, I just tried this: mount -o remount,rw / and it says: can't find uuid=UUID HERE00:53
Gallomimiasudormrf: you don't really want to mount something at / while your system is running00:54
BillTheKidit is insane how many confirmations it has00:54
sudormrfJordan_U, looking at the UUID from blkid and the uuid in the fstab there is a discrepancy00:54
BillTheKidI am on number 120000:54
GallomimiaBillTheKid: sounds like you broke a lot of stuff during that crash00:54
BillTheKiddo you think i can stop it and force yet?00:54
BillTheKid*yes00:54
=== gebbione is now known as gebbione_
Gallomimiamaybe00:54
BillTheKidhahaha00:55
sudormrfGallomimia, based off of what I am describing does it seem like the UUID went wonky?00:55
Jordan_Usudormrf: That would do it. That would mean that systemd would never remount it rw.00:55
Gallomimiasudormrf: the mount command is supposed to have 2 options. since you only gave it one, it's searching for the rest of the data in your /etc/fstab00:55
Jordan_Usudormrf: sudo mount -o remount,rw /00:55
sudormrfJordan_U, ok I am going to modify the fstab00:55
sudormrfJordan_U, yeah, that is what gave me the UUID error00:55
sudormrfso I will need to modify the fstab with the right UUIDs for both /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda500:56
sudormrfrebooting to the liveCD.  woop woop00:57
Gallomimiaif you fixed the problem, should reboot to the installed system00:58
BillTheKidI wonder how many ppl are from livecd in here :p00:58
sudormrfGallomimia, I was in the installed system.  rebooting to the livecd to try the fix (ro fs means can't modify fstab), will reboot after that00:58
sudormrfone sec :_00:58
sudormrf:)00:58
Gallomimiaheh. probably lots. but its usually recommended to use a separate system to connect to IRC while you troubleshoot boot problems00:58
Gallomimiasudormrf: ohhhhh of course00:58
Gallomimiawhat's broken about the fstab tho?00:59
sYmbiohi, anyone know how to have one exploitation system per session ? (if that's possible)00:59
sudormrfGallomimia, wrong UUIDs for the drive00:59
Gallomimiaby the way, the UUID is not required in fstab. its just better than /dev/sdXY00:59
Gallomimiahm. wonder how that happened00:59
sudormrfGallomimia, yes I know, but I am using them as a pointer01:00
sudormrfI do as well xD01:00

ac2hey, some of the documentation is little unclear, but is somewhere online that breaksdown package difference between ubuntu minimal vs a server install?02:25
tgm4883ac2: minimal downloads packages from the internet during installation based on what you select02:27
ac2tgm4883: similar to a mini.iso install?02:28
tgm4883ac2: yea https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD02:28
ac2tgm4883: I guess what I've struggled to fully understand is the necessary steps/installs to take a minimal install and make it the equivalent to a server install02:31
ac2tgm4883: usually when I install a fresh ubuntu server image I just select openssh-server and thats it02:32
tgm4883ac2: you'd need to install the server packages, not sure if there is a metapackage for server02:32
ac2tgm4883: recently I did a mini.iso install on a vps and there was a server package listed amongst various desktop gui environments, but I'm not sure what that server package includes and what I could be missing02:33
tgm4883ac2: well that server package from the mini.iso would get you ubuntu-server02:34

FoeHammeredI'm trying to install Aleph One, which has libboost-all-dev as a dependency. This shows up as a broken package for me, and my efforts to nail down what in it is broken have been a bit abortive. It has been suggested my system is borked somehow. How do I proceed?03:19
racoonsragehello03:20
Bashing-om!info libboost-all-dev03:20
ubottulibboost-all-dev (source: boost-defaults): Boost C++ Libraries development files (ALL) (default version). In component universe, is optional. Version 1.58.0.1ubuntu1 (xenial), package size 2 kB, installed size 10 kB03:20
Bashing-omFoeHammered: show us in a pastebin ' apt-cache policy libboost-all-dev ' . Then we see where we go from there .03:21
FoeHammeredhttp://pastebin.com/2GusbVih03:22
FoeHammeredBashing-om, there's the pastebin.03:23
Bashing-omFoeHammered: K; and what results in attempting to install ' sudo apt install libboost-all-dev ' ?03:24
FoeHammeredInteresting question. I'd been using the apt-get command.03:25
FoeHammeredBashing-om,  libboost-all-dev : Depends: libboost-python-dev but it is not going to be installed03:25
FoeHammeredE: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.03:25

tgm4883FoeHammered: follow the chain, what happens if you 'sudo apt install libboost-python-dev'03:28
FoeHammeredlibboost-all-dev -> libboost-python-dev -> libboost-python1.58-dev -> python-dev -> python2.7-dev* -> libpython2.7-dev*03:30
FoeHammered* also libpython-dev, * also libexpat1-dev03:30
tgm4883FoeHammered: Does one of those give you a better reason as to why it can't be installed?03:30
FoeHammeredNot so far, tgm4883.03:31
FoeHammeredA problem with my repositories or something, perhaps?03:31
tgm4883FoeHammered: perhaps if you added some weird ones03:32
trismFoeHammered: do you have -updates and security disabled? software-properties-gtk updates tab03:32
Bashing-omtgm4883: FoeHammered Do we have a packaging conflict ( my reference is 14.04 ) apt-cache rdepends libboost-python-dev >> Reverse Depends: libboost-python-dev:i386 , compare : apt-cache depends libboost-python-dev >> Conflicts: libboost-python-dev:i386 ?? Do I understand this correctly ??03:32
FoeHammeredThat's odd... I've got it set to automatically check for updates daily, but the Install Updates From has nothing checked.03:33
FoeHammeredBashing-om: To be honest, I didn't quite follow the question.03:33
Bashing-omFoeHammered: Await the knowledge of tgm4883 I do not see how it is possible to have a dependency and it still be in conflict .03:34
FoeHammeredtgm4883, shall I simply try to install something random?03:35
tgm4883FoeHammered: what's the output of 'sudo apt update'03:36
FoeHammeredtgm4883, http://pastebin.com/04XJX31Z03:37
tgm4883FoeHammered: well that's interesting03:38
FoeHammeredLooks like it's all openxcom and wine stuff remaining to be updated.03:38
tgm4883FoeHammered: can you pastebin your /etc/apt/sources.list file03:40
FoeHammeredUh... looks like I don't have to pastebin it. Just says: deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ xenial main universe03:41
FoeHammeredThat seems small.03:42
tgm4883FoeHammered: yea that's not enough I don't think I would bet it's looking for files in another repo03:42
FoeHammeredsources.list.d has the openxcom and wine-staging stuff inside it.03:43
FoeHammeredNothing else, though.03:43
tgm4883FoeHammered: well without going down that chain, you could try adding the other repos back in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu03:46
trismFoeHammered: check the two boxes in software-properties-gtk to add back -updates and security, run sudo apt-get update; and try installing your lib again03:48
FoeHammeredMuch better so far.03:50
FoeHammeredtgm4883, trism, this time it doesn't balk and complain of broken packages.03:50
FoeHammeredI may yet encounter more trouble. I wonder how that happened, anyway... Probably followed some line of thought, fixed one problem by breaking everything else.03:50
FoeHammeredI may yet find out!03:51
FoeHammeredThat's a strange number of ping timeouts.03:52
SchrodingersScatFoeHammered: everything is strange, when you're a stranger.03:54

TheNH813That's a possibility. I believe they may all need to be at the same refresh rate for Xinerama and similar extended desktop modes.09:54

TheNH813Ah, that makes sense.10:06

Zimmer<rizwanBD> Typical scenario is "use a laptop docked with lid closed, only the external screen is active, suspend, take the laptop, open it somewhere"... which leads to "no screen active".13:17
ZimmerTo debug this problem, check if gnome-settings-daemons is getting a signal that the display configuration has changed, by running xtrace against it, and look for a RRScreenChangeNotify event when resuming the machine. If that signal is being sent, then it indicates a possible bug in g-s-d. Otherwise, it suggests a bug in either X or (more likely) the kernel which is not causing the signal to be emitted to begin with.13:17

cfhowlettpaschalis, wild guess but safe enough to test: try booting the nomodeset options14:21
cfhowlett!nomodeset14:21
ubottuA common kernel (boot)parameter is nomodeset, which is needed for some graphic cards that otherwise boot into a black screen or show corrupted splash screen. See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132 on how to use this parameter14:21

BluesKajkev_, you must have copied the iso file to the disk, it's not the same as burrning the image , burning it makes the disk bootable as a live media disk14:24
paschalisin the meantime, there really lot of files that I am working with. compiling android from sources, so lot of files, lot of outputs. could it be something like fragmentation? because the time that it booted (and I shut it down) it took really long time. it has passed the purple screen though, and went to the logo screen (the one with the dots)14:24

b0kHello everyone! Quick question for you.. As of last night, whenever I boot up my laptop (running ubuntu) the OS doesn't immediately boot up anymore.. It just says "PXE-Rom Failed" or whatever, and then mentions something about a patent. I have to restart the machine, press escape on first boot up, then go into boot options, boot from EFI file -> grub -> and then ubuntu will load.. I have to do this each time.16:19
b0kDoes anyone know how to fix or correct this, so that ubuntu automatically loads on boot?16:19
compdocb0k, sounds like the computer is trying to boot from the network card. there might be settings in the bios to disable the boot option rom on the nic, and the boot order. It might be set to boot from the nic instead of the drive16:21

carpediembabyHello, I have a machine which is in a network that can only be accessed through another external machine. I am normally able to connect to it with the following configuration http://pastebin.com/c4aMQzrJ . But now, I am behind a network which uses a proxy. I am not sure how to integrate the proxy settings into all of this. Could someone help?20:38
bekkscarpediembaby: Unless your proxy allows ssh connections, you cant.20:39
bekkscarpediembaby: And in addition, it depends on your proxy type.20:39
carpediembabybekks: it does. I can connect to the first host using the proxy20:40
bekkscarpediembaby: then you are able to connect to your second host as well, dont you?20:40
carpediembabyBut i don't know how to connect directly to the host inside the private network20:40

bekksliuxg: I'm wondering what the actua problem is, behind your question :)23:11
liuxgbekks, I want to understand the test conditions. there are two parts of it, I just want to remove the second test one for the socket. thanks for your help..23:12
bekksliuxg: and where is that snippet from?23:12
=== jarvis is now known as jarvi5
liuxgbekks, it is from this file https://github.com/kyrofa/owncloud-snap/blob/master/src/mysql/start_mysql I am now trying to configure a mysql database using IP instead of socket.23:14
bekksliuxg: And why are you investigating the start script then instead of configuring your mysql db for listening on an IP instead of socket?23:15
bekksliuxg: all you have to do is editing the my.cnf23:15
bekksliuxg: the pid file is completely not related to "listen on a socket" and "listen on an IP":23:16
bekks.23:16
liuxgbekks, so, that part of the irrelavant?23:16
bekksliuxg: sure. all you need to do is editing the my.cnf23:16
liuxgbekks, my my.cnf is http://paste.ubuntu.com/23047905/23:18

df__Someone can tell me why I don't have my xorg.conf  file and  how to have it ?23:18
bekksliuxg: So it IS listening an an IP (127.0.0.1 port 3306) already.23:19
Picidf__: because a lot of modern xorg configuration comes from autodetection now.  If you need to setup an xorg.conf to add some specific parameter, you can just create a file yourself and put the directives in it,23:20
=== jarvis is now known as jarvi5
df__Pici ok I guess you can  confirm that because I have this graphic card : Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)23:20
liuxgbekks, according to the code, it saves the user and password to the root.ini file. somehow, it fails when creating the database at http://paste.ubuntu.com/23047909/23:21

df__Pici  it's normal that I don't have this file with my grpahic card23:21

Picilike I said, xorg doesn't need that file to run.23:25
liuxgbekks, this is the log of the mysql, I think the service is up and running. when creating the database, I get error like 200, it could be 200x sth.23:26
liuxgbekks, http://paste.ubuntu.com/23047915/23:27
bekksliuxg: you think or you verified?23:27
bekksliuxg: your log indicate sthat mysql isnt running.23:27
liuxgbekks, in the log, I think it shows only part of the error due to the space of the screen.23:28
bekksliuxg: line 18.23:29
df__Pici reason why I'm trying to creat this file is because  my Mouse pointer disappear after suspend in Xubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1573454  . Someone solve this problem by configuring this file.23:29
ubottuLaunchpad bug 1568604 in xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu Xenial) "duplicate for #1573454 Mouse cursor lost when unlocking with Intel graphics" [High,Confirmed]23:29
liuxgbekks, yes, that is where the error happens. it tries to create the default database there.23:29
bekksliuxg: and it fails due to error 200. So did you verify your mysql instance starts up fine?23:30
liuxgbekks, this is a more complete log http://paste.ubuntu.com/23047925/23:31
Picidf__: I don't see anything on that page that references xorg.conf23:32
df__Pici  not for this link but others on web. This link  shows that the bug is reported23:32
Picidf__: well, like I said, you can just create a file and put it there and name it xorg.conf.23:34
df__Pici  I have to write something in.23:34
dhsouphi. last time i tried ubuntu, i could not get rid of constant screen tearing (in movies and when scrolling on pages). i want to try ubuntu again, but scared to death that it will be the same thing. what caused it and how can i avoid it?23:35
Picidf__: Are you asking me what you need to write in xorg.conf to fix your bug?23:35
df__Pici yes I don't know how to get informations. People write something in and this bug maybe fixed23:36
Picidf__: You need to ask those people. Theres no magic word that would fix this.23:37

liuxgbekks, thanks for helping. I am now having the problem when I try to access mysql database, it complains like "http://paste.ubuntu.com/23047939/, it seems that it still uses the socket way to do that instead of using IP23:46
liuxgbekks, my code is at https://github.com/liu-xiao-guo/tomcat-maven-webapp23:47
liuxgbekks, the question is that how I can force it to use IP instead of socket, thanks23:48
