klinHi01:12
lobo_hello05:48
waltersraspberryhi07:26
alkisgHello07:30
waltersraspberryhi07:30
waltersraspberryubuntu mate works on my raspberry pi 307:30
waltersraspberry16.04 :)07:31
alkisgNice! Can you surf with it? I find it unusuably slow..07:32
waltersraspberryyes i can07:32
waltersraspberryhave you a raspberry pi 307:32
alkisgNo I have pi 207:32
alkisgIt's 50 times slower than my i507:33
alkisgAnd pi 3 is only 0.4 times faster than pi 2, so... still unusably slow07:33
waltersraspberryi have put in a samsung evo plus 64gb micro sd is very fast07:33
alkisgI can't login to gmail in under 1 minute07:33
alkisgI can't watch full screen youtube07:33
alkisgThe sd card doesn't matter for those...07:33
waltersraspberryyou can install kodi or osmc and the rpi3 works fine as player07:34
alkisgIt's just unusable as a normal client, and only good for special cases...07:34
waltersraspberrybut the pi is micro07:34
alkisgkodi plugins break every second week07:34
alkisgI prefer using the browser07:35
waltersraspberryhmm ubuntu mate is good but my pi is faster then an windows 7 laptop07:36
waltersraspberryits boot in 5sec07:36
waltersraspberryi have overheatsinking07:36
alkisgBoot time doesn't matter at all07:36
alkisgIf you can't surf with it07:36
waltersraspberryalkisg07:36
waltersraspberryhave you hear from the udoo x8607:37
alkisgI prefer i3/i5's, they also come in small forms07:38
waltersraspberryhttp://www.udoo.org/udoo-x86/07:38
alkisghttp://www.gearbest.com/tv-box-mini-pc/pp_361276.html07:38
waltersraspberryshow this oneplatincomputer it can run all 8607:38
waltersraspberryis this your computer07:39
alkisgWhat is its cpubenchmark score?07:39
ouroumovwaltersraspberry, this udoo thing is not a product yet07:39
waltersraspberrywhy07:40
alkisgNo, I have a normal desktop i3/i5, and I'm only using the pi to remote desktop to it when needed07:40
ouroumovwaltersraspberry, it's a kickstarter07:40
waltersraspberrywhat is a kickstarter07:40
ouroumovwaltersraspberry, an operation to raise money for a project07:42
waltersraspberryit can be that this projekt have not enough money and then is the projekt not possibly07:43
waltersraspberryhow many cost the raspberry pi3 by you ouroumov07:44
ouroumovwaltersraspberry, I don't know and I sure as hell don't care07:45
ouroumovwaltersraspberry, I have no use for a PI07:45
waltersraspberryokay for me was this a other variant to computer07:46
waltersraspberry*as07:46
ouroumovwaltersraspberry, like many people I've toyed with the idea of getting one, but seriously I can't justify trading money for one07:46
alkisgI think raspberry PIs are only good for special cases, like print servers or meteo stations07:46
waltersraspberryyes i think it is to expensive ouroumov what do you think about the s7 edge07:47
waltersraspberryit is very expensive07:48
bolloI have three. Music (runeaudio), roms (retropie) and tv streaming (openelec).07:49
ouroumovwaltersraspberry, I dig the idea of an x86 single board computer though07:49
alkisgThey already exist, for example: http://www.gearbest.com/tv-box-mini-pc/pp_359435.html07:49
bolloThree generations07:49
ouroumovwaltersraspberry, I don't know what that is (s7 edge)07:50
waltersraspberryokay wait ouroumov07:50
waltersraspberryhttp://www.udoo.org/udoo-x86/07:53
waltersraspberryohh sorry07:53
waltersraspberryerror link07:53
waltersraspberryhere is it http://www.samsung.com/us/explore/galaxy07:53
ouroumovwaltersraspberry, that's a 40407:54
waltersraspberryohh07:55
waltersraspberryi send you a new07:55
waltersraspberryhttp://www.samsung.com/us/explore/galaxy-s7-features-and-specs/07:55
waltersraspberryso ist the right07:56
waltersraspberryouromov what do you think about this phone07:57
walter__my raspberry pi3 was frezzing08:01
walter__i think to make a kernel update08:02
walter__what is the command for a kernel upgrade08:02

alkisgMuch better08:11
alkisgNow, what is your question?08:11
walter__how upgrade the kernel08:11
walter__how install all pakets they i need08:11
alkisgYou updated and you didn't get a new kernel. That means that you already have the newest kernel.08:11
walter__have you a website with the i can put photos and paste the url here08:12
alkisgOne example is http://picpaste.com/08:13
walter__thank you08:13
walter__http://picpaste.com/Screenshot_at_2016-08-17_10_13_45-bIYgQbi3.png08:14
alkisgAnd what is your question with that picture?08:14
walter__the cpu is high08:15
alkisgAt 10% you think it is high? No, it isn't08:15
walter__no they change all secunds08:16
walter__seconds08:16
walter__from 10 to 3008:16
alkisgIt's a raspberry pi. Its cpu is much slower than a mobile phone. That's the best it can do.08:16
alkisgThat's why I'm saying that it's not appropriate for normal use08:17
walter__can he destroyed when is the cpu to high08:17
walter__i will buy cooler than he not be hot08:17
alkisgI don't know its temperature limits, ask in #raspberrypi08:18
alkisgHere is for mate desktop questions08:18
walter__okay08:18
walter__why is my nickname not waltersraspberry08:19
ouroumov<waltersraspberry> ouromov what do you think about this phone -> I think it's expensive08:23
ouroumoverf08:23
ali1234the funny thing about gnome system monitor08:23
ali1234see those curved graphs?08:24
ali1234the spline algorithm they use is ridiculously CPU intensive08:24
waltersraspberryhow can i make my own community08:26
ouroumovali1234, is there a better alternative? Maybe you can whishlist it?08:26
waltersraspberryno08:26
ali1234ouroumov: i reported the bug literally about 8 years ago08:26
waltersraspberrywhat a bug08:27
ali1234there is already better alternative, it's called top08:27
ouroumovali1234, I mean to get curved lines08:27
ouroumovali1234, where's the bug report?08:27
waltersraspberrywhere know a good easter egg on ubuntu mate08:28
alkisgali1234: system-monitor is using 1% of my cpu... I wouldn't call that intense08:29
waltersraspberry:)08:29
waltersraspberry°°°°°°°08:30
ali1234here's the main bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-system-monitor/+bug/9384708:30
ubottuLaunchpad bug 93847 in Gnome System Monitor "Excessive CPU usage by Gnome System Monitor " [High,Fix released]08:30
ouroumovFix released?08:31
waltersraspberryi found that ubuntu have a bit aperreance mac os x08:32
waltersraspberrymate08:32
alkisgFix released in 201308:32
ali1234maybe. i havent used gnome since about 201208:32
waltersraspberryi found that ubuntu have a bit aperreance mac os x08:32
waltersraspberrymat08:32
waltersraspberryon what based ubuntu mate08:33
ali1234it's not really fixed, CPUs just got faster in nearly 10 years, so now it uses only 2% - 3% instead of 10% - 15%08:33
ali1234until you run it on a raspberry pi, then it uses a significant % again08:34
alkisgali1234: well, a fix was committed and released08:34
ali1234yeah check the fix08:34
ouroumovwaltersraspberry, please make entire sentences and use punctuation08:34
waltersraspberryyou mean me #ali123408:34
ali1234has nothing to do with CPU08:34
alkisgA pi uses significant % of cpu even for running ls :)08:34
alkisgSpline algorithms have been running fine since the 8086 era...08:35
ali1234yeah, which is why this one is so bad08:35
alkisgI don't see anyone complaining about it, other than you, who are not using it...08:35
ali1234except for the 10 duplicate bug reports08:35
ali1234and the person commenting that it is still broken in 201608:36
alkisgWhich were fix-released in 201308:36
ali1234but sure ignore the facts08:36
alkisgAnd saying that the splines are not to blame08:36
alkisgHe blames another tab for 5%08:36
ali1234you can clearly see that they are08:36
ali1234all you have to do is run it and top at the same time08:36
ali1234and then switch between the tabs08:36
alkisgI did08:36
alkisg1% cpu, nothing08:36
ali1234and notice that the one with splines on uses ridiculous amounts of CPU08:36
waltersraspberryhelol08:38
waltersraspberryhello i have a problem08:38
alkisgali1234: on a pi, while watching the processes, I get 40% of one cpu, and while watching the splines, only 30%. So they definately are not to blame.08:39
ali1234here's the upstream bug where they talk about the CPU usage problem of the graphs. notice it isn't fixed. https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=63634308:39
ubottuGnome bug 636343 in resources "Use uber-graph for less CPU usage" [Enhancement,New]08:39
alkisgCan you reproduce what you're saying? I can't. End of story until someone here does reproduce it.08:40
alkisgRequest to use other libraries don't prove anything without benchmarks08:41
ouroumovhttps://paste.debian.net/hidden/85ff3349/ -> uses less than 5% on my i5 skylake. I guess it's kind of high.08:42
alkisgFrom comment 3, "I’m afraid not the graph drawing is consuming CPU, but updating the process list"08:42
alkisgI don't object to system-monitor consuming more cpu than it needs; I object to blaming the splines08:42
alkisgat least, I can't verify it08:42
ali1234did you want until the graph is the width of the window08:43
ali1234see comment 408:43
alkisgIt was 1300 pixels wide08:43
ali1234yeah and how long was the line?08:43
alkisgI can run "ls" and it will take more cpu08:43
alkisgIt's a pi...08:43
alkisgAbout 100 pixels high per graph08:44
ali1234yeah and how long is the line?08:44
alkisgThe spline? Full width08:44
alkisgThe process tab needs more cpu than the graph tab08:44
alkisgSo if optimization is needed, I don't think the graph tab should be the first thing to look for08:45
ali1234any type of optimization in g-s-m would be welcomed by its users i'm sure08:45
ali1234but after 9 years i'm sure they are no longer holding their breath08:45
alkisgFor the 1% cpu it needs in my i5, I certainly don't care if they optimize it more...08:46
alkisgFor the 30% it needs in the pi... well, ls needs more, so I just need to throw away my pi :)08:47
ali1234for me it uses 3% CPU on the processes tab and 5% on the resources tab08:47
alkisgIs this on ubuntu-mate 16.04?08:48
alkisgOr the gnome 3 version?08:48
waltersraspberrywhwn08:48
waltersraspberrysorry08:48
ali1234it's gnome-system-monitor on ubuntu 16.0408:49
alkisgThen the gnome-3 version, with compositors etc, so the graphic stack might be to blame there for the bit higher cpu08:49
waltersraspberrywhen is cold i open my window and my pi will not be hot08:49
ali1234i'm running it in xfce with compositing disabled08:49
ali1234i'm running it on an i7-670008:50
alkisgMaybe you have fewer processes then, or worse graphics card, dunno, that's what I'm seeing here08:50
ali1234i have a gtx-78008:50
alkisgi5-4440 here, mate without compositing08:50
alkisgnouveau or nvidia?08:50
waltersraspberry "Really, I'm not out to destroy Microsoft. That will just be a completely unintentional side effect.")08:50
ali1234now that the graphs fill the whole screen it is using 12% CPU08:50
waltersraspberry "Really, I'm not out to destroy Microsoft. That will just be a completely unintentional side effect.")08:51
ali1234nvidia08:51
alkisgwith fullscreen in the resources tab in 1920, and terminal on lower bottom on top of the monitor window => 2.7 cpu08:52
alkisg1920x108008:52
ali1234change the update frequency to 0.25 seconds08:52
ali1234when i do that it uses 40% CPU08:53
alkisgsame with processes tab => 4%08:53
ali1234process tab never goes over 4% for me08:53
alkisgSo again the processes tab is two times slower than the resources tab08:53
ali1234yeah for me it's 10x faster08:53
alkisgMaybe nvidia issues08:54
alkisgDifferent drivers get different results in different UI libraries etc08:54
alkisgE.g. I've seen 100 times faster or slower results on specific x11perf or gtkperf tests,08:54
alkisgnot in general due to the graphics card, but to specific bits, due to unoptimized driver08:54
alkisgSo maybe the bug you're seeking is in nvidia upstream08:55
alkisgTry comparing gtkperf or x11perf with an intel one08:55
ali1234wait, are you claiming that nvidia can't handle 4 fps?08:55
ali1234that seems like a stretch08:55
ouroumovlol08:56
alkisgNo, I'm claiming that for example putshmimage may be 10 times faster in intel than in nvidia,08:56
alkisgwhile, in the same example, the overall score may be higher in nvidia08:56
alkisgThere are specific unoptimized functions that are extremely slow in some drivers08:56
alkisgI've seen many bugs and fixes for such issues08:56
alkisgTry x11perf in just 2 pcs with different drivers, you'll see what I'm talking about08:57
* alkisg spent days on such benchmarks08:57
waltersraspberryhere is a long disscusion :)08:58
ali1234it's definitely a problem with the way the display is rendered08:58
ali1234the graphs update when you're on another tab but this does not take loads of CPU08:59
waltersraspberry;I have a Problem08:59
waltersraspberryi will ask all what is the best way to lern english vocabulary09:03
alkisgwaltersraspberry: this channel is for supporting ubuntu mate09:03
alkisgNot for general, offtopic chat09:03
alkisgTry joining this channel for offtopic chat: #ubuntu-offtopic09:04
waltersraspberryyes but this help me09:04
alkisgYes but you annoy people here if you chat about how you will learn english, so they will ban you09:04
alkisgThere are rules to follow09:04
waltersraspberrysorry09:04
alkisgAsk about mate, not whatever comes to your mind09:04
waltersraspberry:) okay09:05
alkisgOr join #ubuntu-offtopic09:05
alkisgPeople there want to talk to you about how to learn english09:05
waltersraspberryyes that is my problem09:05
alkisgSo ask them there09:05
alkisgType: /join #ubuntu-offtopic09:05
alkisgAnd ask there09:05
waltersraspberrynot works09:06
alkisgGoogle about how to join irc channels then, you did something wrong09:06
waltersraspberry #ubuntu-offtopic :Cannot join channel (+r) - you need to be identified with services09:07
alkisgali1234: I tried in vbox (which has its own drivers), I'm getting 1% gnome-system-monitor, and 30% compiz (this one in stock ubuntu/unity)09:08
alkisgSo I can't blame gnome-system-monitor, but surely compiz needs a lot of cpu in llvmpipe environments09:09
ali1234yeah it does09:09
ouroumovwaltersraspberry, see /ns help to register your nickname09:09
waltersraspberryi have tried09:11
waltersraspberryits not work09:13
ouroumovwaltersraspberry, ask for assistance on #ubuntu-de09:14
alkisg...on how to join #ubuntu-offtopic :)09:14
waltersraspberry:)09:14
ouroumovflexiondotorg, hi. Do you need me to do something else regarding that memleak issue? I can attempt to reproduce in other distros if necessary if it's needed.09:36

alomHi12:01
alomEvery Body How are you ?12:01
neoackbonjour12:08
neoackje debute sous linux ubuntu et lors de l'installation je n'ai pas de son pilote ALC282 quelqu'un peut m'aider ?12:08
neoackSVP12:08
neoackHi12:09
neoacki m beginner in ubuntu but i m no sound after install. My sound driver is ALC282. Help Pls12:09
ouroumovhi neoack12:11
neoackhi12:11
neoackcan you help mee lol ?12:11
ouroumovneoack, I assume you've went around and checked the sound settings?12:11
ouroumovThere's a pane in the sound settings window to select output hardware12:12
neoacki test alsamixer and lspci but my sound map is reconnized but no sound12:12
neoackoutput GK104 hDMI Audio controller Digital Stereo but if i change tou internal audio no osund too12:14
ouroumovcan you provide the output of the following command on pastebin.com? : lshw -C sound12:14
raspberryhi, does anyone here know how to get ubuntu mate recognise homemade joystick? I connected my joystick to the raspberry via SPI and it works, but I need the system to know that it is a joystick and don't know how to achieve that12:16
neoackthis http://pastebin.com/KVy5YJ5X12:16
ouroumovraspberry, no idea, maybe ask on our forums? ( https://ubuntu-mate.community/c/support/raspberry-pi-2 )12:17
raspberryI've posted there yesterday, moreover I've posted on raspberry forum too still no answer :(12:18
ouroumovso neoack the correct driver is snd_hda_intel12:18
ouroumovraspberry, well, maybe you just need to give it some time. :x12:18
neoackok ty sorry but how to install are you doc or wiki12:19
raspberryyeah I hope that's the case. It would be sad not to get any response. It's been four days I'm thinking about that problem. Frustrating12:19
ouroumovneoack, I mean it's the driver you're currently using, you're not using whatever ALC282 is12:19
ouroumovraspberry, why specifically do you need the device to be recognized as a joystick?12:20
raspberryto use it with Mission Planner, when the device is recognized as joystick Mission Planner won't need special code to control the drone12:20
ouroumovraspberry, you're running that under wine on a raspberry?12:23
raspberryraspberry I've made my own analog joysticks using MCP300812:25
ouroumovBut the Mission Planner home page says it's Windows software12:25
raspberryyeah but there is APM planner which some guy made based on Mission Planner and it works on ubuntu mate to make it possible on raspberry12:26
ouroumovI see someone slapped a "gaming" time on your thread, maybe you could update your post so people better understand what you're trying to do? :/12:28
ouroumovtag *12:29
raspberryok I've updated12:32
ouroumovraspberry, I've changed the topic on your thread a little for better visibility12:50
raspberryok thanks for that12:52
ouroumovI've also removed the "gaming" tag and added "system" instead12:53

YupyHi guys, I want ot install ubuntu-mate 16.10 but ask's for password and username... what is the default username and password?20:43
sixwheeledbeastDidn't think there was one.20:46
Yupystrange that is asking for one20:46
sixwheeledbeastIt will be whatever you used in the installer20:46
YupyI want to install it and is asking as default for username and password, I want to install it but have no clue what is the username and password20:47
GrorcoHi!20:47
Grorcodoes anyone know a way to customize the workspaces I would like 3 in the top row, and 1 in the bottom that I can ctrl+alt+down to get to from any of the others20:49
sixwheeledbeastIsn't it the installer asking you to create a username and password?21:01
Yupynope, when I add a certain username or password say's: password incorect... actually first time ask me for a password and username, I cannot see the installer21:02
sixwheeledbeastHave you checked the preferences for workspaces, right click the switcher?21:02
sixwheeledbeastI don't believe there is a default password the installer asks to set one on installation AFAIK21:03
YupyTY for the reply, I will try what is here... https://ubuntu-mate.community/t/live-session-password/721921:04
