=== bazhang_ is now known as bazhang [01:18] Anyone willing to help me attempt to resolve some bluetooth issues? === dkessel_ is now known as dkessel === bekks_ is now known as bekks === bazhang__ is now known as bazhang [12:33] can someone tell me why it is that, when i create a jpg it has no thumbnail for the icon? it has instead a broken looking gear as the placeholder [12:38] xubuntu lubuntu mubuntu ubuntu kubuntu or dubuntu? which one is more stable and fast? [12:39] CodFection, well, ive used xubuntu, lubuntu, and ubunutu, but not the other ones you listed. so i can only comment on what ive had experience on. [12:40] CodFection, and thus far, xubuntu has been the fastest for me personally. [12:40] or ubuntu with the xubunut desktop installed actually\ [12:40] CodFection, ^^ [12:42] thanks glitchd [12:42] I have tried installing xfce on top of ubuntu and it messed it up [12:43] badly [12:43] CodFection, maybe it was how you installed it? [12:43] CodFection, worked perfectly for me [12:43] ubuntu unity right? [12:43] CodFection, im using it right now, ubuntu 16.04.1 with xubuntu-desktop [12:43] CodFection, lol nonono [12:44] CodFection, im not a fan o unity [12:44] CodFection, and i stay far from it [12:44] oh... [12:44] because ubuntu comes with unity [12:44] I suppose [12:44] indeed it does [12:44] but you can install xubuntu-desktop and boot to that instead [12:44] i've installed xfce on ubuntu... my normal approach & have no issues. (also kde, mate....) [12:45] the process would be, install ubuntu, boot to desktop, install xubuntu-desktop, logout, select different desktop, boot into xubunut. [12:45] *xubuntu [12:45] at login .. I select the DEsktop I want to run... if you want to switch; logout & at login; select different DE [12:46] hmm so u have installed xubuntu-desktop instead of xfce [12:46] no need to 'reboot' [12:46] guiverc, thx for saying everything i just said [12:46] lol [12:46] ? [12:46] CodFection, its basically the same thing [12:46] sorry glitchd [12:46] guiverc, no problem=) [12:47] xubuntu is the xfce version of ubuntu [12:47] xubuntu-desktop is the xfce version of ubunut-desktop [12:47] but its not unity [12:47] there is no xfce version of unity [12:48] CodFection, what version are you on right now? [12:49] CodFection, ?? [12:50] 16.04 [12:51] CodFection, you didnt upgrade to 16.04.1? [12:52] ps: if you've fully updated Codfection, you'll be running 16.04.1 [12:55] yea sorry [12:55] 16.04.1 [12:56] ok [12:56] CodFection, its easy to install and give it a try and make your own decision on it [12:56] CodFection, sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop [12:57] thanks a lot glitchd [12:57] will try it [12:57] so no bugs or glitches right? [12:58] nah not really [12:58] its my go-to desktop for every install [12:59] nice [12:59] CodFection, btw, what are the specs of you machine? [12:59] jw [13:01] i5 laptop [13:01] same here [13:01] 16 gb ram [13:01] whoa itll run really well on you machine [13:02] u think I need i7 laptop or i5 is neough? [13:02] i hope youre using 64 bit [13:02] i5 is just fine [13:02] i have an i5 and it runs great [13:03] hp probook i5 8 gb ram [13:03] yea [13:03] nice [13:03] I also have hp [13:03] just make sure u install 64 bit [13:03] :P [13:03] which model hp do u have? [13:04] hp elitebook 8470p [13:04] quite old\ [13:04] no matter [13:04] elitebook are good anyways [13:04] i got mine a couple of years ago [13:04] yea [13:04] but yours is probook [13:05] eh.. [13:05] probook is better right? [13:05] i honestly have no idea between the models [13:06] I have bought lenovo y700 before few months [13:06] had a lot of issues [13:06] sold it and got this one [13:07] even thou it had better specs than this one.. I prefer elitebook [13:07] maybe build quality is superior [13:08] yea i think hp defiantly out-ranks lenovo [13:08] quality wise anyways [13:09] i think hp is a quality brand whereas lenovo is more the economy type brand [13:09] macbooks are the best [13:09] thou [13:10] only if I could afford one [13:10] lol [13:11] im not a mac fan either lol [13:11] never liked macs [13:12] hmm [13:12] true [13:12] have u tried them? [13:12] :) [13:12] indeed i have, and still jus not a fan [13:13] hmm [13:13] because it supports more apps [13:13] than linux [13:13] and it has same capabilities as linux [13:13] (bash shell) [13:14] yea but so does windows, but i dont use that either [13:15] but mac os is unix certified [13:16] and...? [13:16] unix is a trademark; meaning appl have paid $s to use the name, nothing more...... gnu/linux is the now more common standard than the unix of the 70s & 80s. [13:26] glitchd: your question. no answer sorry... i tried creating image (from tty; gimp) and every time a jpeg was created in my $HOME directory... it had a correct thumbnail (using thunar as file manager).... my ubuntu 16.04.1 has other DEs loaded; so its not a standard xubuntu. [13:29] guiverc, no problem, i guess ill just have to deal with it. although i noticed it only happens when creating jpg files through gimp. other image software display thumbnails on the icons corretly [13:29] correctly* [13:30] my attempt in gimp was just a 'save using different name/format' ... so not a "creation" at all... this could make my use completely different.... i'm graphically hopeless. [13:31] guiverc, wow. [13:31] guiverc, i just created another jpg and exported it to my home folder and the thumbnail showed correctly [13:32] guiverc, so apparently it only has a problem showing thumbnails on files save to the desktop [13:32] trying again: I did note in advanced settings (export; it has "save thumbnail" as an option! [13:32] same here [13:33] with this option changed; it showed in my thunar as a "picture" & not thumbnail; ie. generic icon [13:34] with save thumbnail option enabled or disabled? [13:35] maybe thumbnail database is prevented in the desktop folder.... by a rule... but pure guess [13:36] i believe this problem is gimp specific since i can create a jpg with another program and the thumbnail shows fine on the desktop [13:36] i tried one of each...(drawing lines over pic)... both saved to $HOME, but one had generic icon, one had thumbnail.. would have to try again to know which was which. [13:36] so its something with the way that gimp is creating these files [13:37] CodFection, are you using xubuntu-desktop yet? [13:38] just then with TICK on create thumbnail; thunar has full thumbnail; not generic icon.... saved to $HOME [13:39] s:/saved/exported/ [13:40] nope... that time NO TICK & I still got a thumbnail... in fact now all pics have thumbnail.. but I may have forgotten to make change to pic [13:42] guiverc, im not even gonna worry about it, ill solve this another time [13:42] guiverc, thx for the help tho. [13:43] most welcome;... sorry about slow typing/distraction thus repeatition before... my bad! [13:43] guiverc, no problem=) [13:43] adios [15:47] forgot password === Cristiano is now known as Guest2252 [17:38] Estou usando o Xubuntu 16.04.1, depois de uma atualização não sei por qual motivo no painel o icone do bluetooth duplicou e o da bateria ficou estranho, os icones, alguém poderia me explicar?
