ln0kvhello. where i find ubuntu touch for htc desire bravo?09:43
brunch875ln0kv: have a look at this list https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Devices09:50
Soe1enhello10:00
Soe1enI am trying to install ubuntu touch on my bq aquaris e5 fhd with the flashtool but it always throws an error 1045 out10:01
Soe1encan anyone help me out?10:01
Soe1enoh nevermind this time it worked?10:09
Soe1enso when I type adb reboot bootloader, it boots into fastboot mode instead, is that normal?10:17
Soe1enso I think I ordered the wrong device10:22
Soe1enI got bq e5 fhd instead bq e5 hd10:23
Soe1enis it still possible to install ubuntu touch on it?10:23
Soe1enotherwise I will send it back and get the correct device I guess10:23
k1l_ogra_: do you want to restrict the handling of the topic to ops only?10:29
ogra_not really10:30
ogra_most ubuntu channels have the topic open, if this happens more often we should consider loging it down, but not because fo one occurence10:31
ogra_*locking it down10:31
k1l_the bigger ubuntu ones have locked them. but was just asking10:32
ogra_we can always lock it if it really becomes a prob ... i dont think it is one for now10:33
Soe1enI think I will send that device back10:50
ogra_i dont think there ever was an image for the FHD10:51
ogra_the HD is is identical to the 4.5 so there wasnt much porting involved ... the FHD has a completely different board10:53
Soe1enogra_: yeah, I see what you mean...10:53
Soe1enso uh10:53
Soe1enis there any chance to get a device which is not as expenesive and still available on the market?10:54
ogra_i dont think there are any new phones on the parket currently10:54
ogra_perhaps ebay has used ones10:54
ogra_but afaik the only ubuntu device you can buy newly currently iis the M10 tablet10:54

MrChrisDruifmcphail: official apps are overrated, is there an unofficial app to have WhatsApp working on Ubuntu Touch? =)10:58
Soe1endoesnt look like, the english version has a different sortiment10:59
Soe1enheh, no ubuntu phone for me!11:01
ogra_MrChrisDruif, if whatsapp detects you are using an unofficial one your account will be locked down ...11:01
Soe1enbut thanks for your help11:01
ogra_(they also hunt down the devs of alternate unapproved clients usually)11:02
MrChrisDruifogra_: that sucks11:02
ogra_yes, tell them :)11:02
MrChrisDruifogra_: I'd rather have everyone I know switch to Telegram...11:06
ogra_yeah11:07
brunch875I've already convinced a couple of people. Although it'd be preferable to go XMPP11:07
MrChrisDruifBut if my account gets locked I have a legitimate reason for forcing others to Telegram or sms =D11:08
MrChrisDruifbrunch875: is XMPP better?11:08
MrChrisDruifWhich platform?11:08
brunch875well, I can use it on pidgin11:08
brunch875google talk supports that!11:08
MrChrisDruifUsed to AFAIK11:09
brunch875my biggest wish is for utouch to get some xmpp going with notifications11:09
brunch875then I can just convince people to talk with me via hangouts11:09
brunch875since most people use android anyway, they won't even need to download anything else; because hangouts comes installed by default11:10
MrChrisDruifbrunch875: what about Allo? =/11:11
MrChrisDruifThat's why I don't trust Google anymore11:12
brunch875it's the first time I hear about Allo11:12
MrChrisDruifToo many failed projects that just get dumped11:12
brunch875does it still use the hangouts platform?11:13
MrChrisDruifIt (in conjunction with Duo) will replace Hangings for consumers...11:13
MrChrisDruifNot sure11:13
MrChrisDruifs/Hangings/Hangouts11:13
brunch875I suppose it does, since hangouts is the old google talk anyway11:14
brunch875it seems like just another client built atop of it11:14
jgdxla_juyis, hey, mind if we discuss bug 1419803 here? :)11:16
ubot5bug 1419803 in ubuntu-download-manager "Update download would not resume after lost and regained network connection" [High,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/141980311:17
la_juyisjgdx: of course not11:17
la_juyistell me :)11:17
jgdxla_juyis, great, I'd really like the /var/log/system-image/client.log (use sudo to read this) before and after running $ sudo system-image-cli -g11:18
la_juyisok, let me grab them...11:21
jgdxthx11:21
la_juyisjgdx: what should i expect while running system-image-cli? (it's hanged - or at least no feedback)11:25
jgdxla_juyis, did you pass the -g flag?11:25
la_juyisyep11:25
jgdxla_juyis, aah, sorry. -gv11:25
jgdx(means get/download as well as being verbose about it)11:26
la_juyisah! gotchya11:26
la_juyisjgdx: uploaded - it's now offering to install, should i proceed?11:32
jgdxjibel, hey, do you have time to talk about bug 1618157?11:32
ubot5bug 1618157 in Canonical System Image "xenial/arm64 - no system-settings/about panel" [Critical,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/161815711:32
jgdxla_juyis, sure.11:34
jgdxla_juyis, I think we'll leave bug 1419803 alone and use bug 1617290 instead.11:36
ubot5bug 1419803 in ubuntu-download-manager "Update download would not resume after lost and regained network connection" [High,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/141980311:36
ubot5bug 1617290 in system-image (Ubuntu) "System Image fails with “FileNotFoundError”" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/161729011:36
jgdxla_juyis, hm, actually, maybe we should mark the latter as duplicate of the 14… bug.11:38
la_juyisjgdx: not sure if it is the exact same thing - meaning my situation was due to a network "Error" (maybe not very gracefully handled) while this other bug (16...) looks like something different11:41
jgdxla_juyis, yes, makes sense. Anyway, thanks for the logs.11:44
la_juyisjgdx: np, thanks for untrapping me :)11:44
jgdxbarry, ping12:01
jibeljgdx, sure I've time12:07
jibeljgdx, what do you want to know?12:08
jgdxjibel, seems 21 is a bit old, does uss still crash on 24?12:09
jgdxjibel, and anything in the logs or are you not able to get to them because of no adb12:09
jibeljgdx, 21 is 3 days old12:09
jgdxlike way old12:10
jibelheh12:11
jgdxjibel, reason I'm pointing that out is that we had an issue with ual2/3 and uss had to be rebuilt around that time12:11
jibelah maybe12:11
jibelI'll upgrade12:11
jgdxi'm flashing #24 or latest right now12:11
jibelI found nothing obvious in the logs12:12
jgdxjibel also, maybe do a dpkg --list | grep ii | grep ubuntu-app-launch to verify only one lib version installed12:13
jibeljgdx, I've  ubuntu-app-launch                                     0.9+16.04.20160825-0ubuntu112:16
jibeljgdx, is it the right version?12:17
jibeland u-s-s  0.4+16.04.20160824.1-0ubuntu112:17
jgdxjibel, sorry, the lib12:17
jgdx24 is a bit old IIRC12:18
jibeljgdx, the lib is the same version and it's ual312:20
jgdxjibel, good show12:20
jibeljgdx, anything in this list that would affect uss and must be upgraded http://paste.ubuntu.com/23111650/ ?12:32
jgdxjibel, Mirv said qtmir had to be upgraded to get unity8 to boot at all, maybe it's also affecting uss. Not sure12:33
Mirvjgdx: no we couldn't run u-s-s or any other app if we didn't have the qtmir updated already12:35
jibeljgdx, and how would it affect only the 'about' section?12:42
jgdxjibel, I don't know yet12:44
jibeljgdx, I'm flashing 2512:45

jgdxbarry, hey, I've been seeing a lot of FileNotFoundErrors on S-I downloads. Do you know what could be the cause?13:56
barryjgdx: do you have a log capture?13:56
jgdxbarry, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-system-settings/+bug/1419803/+attachment/4730763/+files/logs.tar13:57
ubot5Launchpad bug 1419803 in ubuntu-download-manager "Update download would not resume after lost and regained network connection" [High,Triaged]13:57
jgdxbarry, from bug 141980313:57
barryjgdx: looking13:58
jgdxbarry, seems a CheckForUpdates is required to unblock it13:59
barryjgdx: i think that error (in before.log) is saying that udm is reporting an error because it cannot find the file at the http: resource.  i can't think of why that would happen14:05
barryjgdx: it could be anything from udm getting a 404 from the server, to something on our side14:05
barryjgdx: would you have any logs of udm and/or the http traffic?14:06
jgdxbarry, could you ask la_juyis that? She's experienced this just this morning.14:07
barryla_juyis: hi.  ^^14:08

javier4porting wiki says totry to build recovery first. Are clockworkmode sources already included in ubuntu tree? If yes, what's the target to give to make to build a recovery? Or should I use the classic "makerecovery"?16:05

volga629or where I can find information about it ?16:09
peat-psuwitjavier4: run "make recoveryimage" and the recovery image will be at $OUT/recovery.img16:14
javier4peat-psuwit, ok, like in the pure AOSP. Thanks.16:15
peat-psuwitjavier4: Indeed, it is an AOSP tree. It just contains a lot less things.16:18
javier4peat-psuwit, it's time to create a better wiki page. It's not possible to really understand what has to be added to ubuntu tree from your own AOSP tree to port a new device. It's not easy to understand which AOSP subdirs ubuntu needs and which not. And nobody can say if you have to make changes inside build/ or other directories. My tree is customized by mediatek, so it's surely harder to adapt, but that page really lac16:21

mcrxhi guys! quick questionm19:51
mcrxis there a way to remap caps lock to ctrl in ubuntu touch (with a bt keyboard)19:51
mr-woofhi all20:09
mr-woofI've just installed Ubuntu Touch on my nexus 4, are there known issues with connecting to wireless networks?20:11
dobeymr-woof: what channel did you use?20:12
mr-woofStable, Dobey20:12
=== dandrader is now known as dandrader|afk
mr-woofif I had the password showing and then click connect, it vanishes20:12
mr-woofif I hide the password it'll connect20:12
dobeythat's weird, but maybe related to the issue that was fixed in rc-proposed and should be fixed in the next stable update as well20:13
mr-woofis there a limit to the amount of characters it'll take as a password?20:13
mr-woofMy guest network is 22 and it works, my normal network is a lot longer and it doesnt want to know20:14
dobeymr-woof: ah yes, there was an issue with long passwords (and taking more than about 25 seconds to enter the password)20:15
JanChttps://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/158812620:15
ubot5Launchpad bug 1588126 in network-manager (Ubuntu) "[regression] Adding new wifi networks (with long passwords) never connect at all in OTA-11 and OTA-12" [High,Confirmed]20:15

dobeyyeah20:15
mr-woofah that sounds like the one20:15
mr-woofat least it's not me typing in the password incorrectly20:15
mr-woof:-)20:15
mr-woofdaft question, how can I tell what version I'm on?20:16
JanCin the system settings there is an item for info about the phone20:17
mr-woofah yeah, got it, ota-1220:17
mr-woofhow often do the OTA updates come out?20:18
JanC6 weeks usually, I think20:18
mr-woofseems decent so far, I'm just trying to find my way round the OS at the moment20:20
mr-woofany recommendations on anything I should install from the ubuntu store?20:21
JanCif you don't have them yet, maybe: terminal-app, uNav, uTorch, uApp Explorer, Cloud Music, Dekko, Trolly, ...?20:26
JanCand a couple of games maybe  :)20:27
mr-woofgot a couple of those, not trolly20:28
mr-wooflets see :)20:28
JanCit's to keep shopping lists on your phone20:28
mr-woofha Trolly is a good idea20:28
JanC(there are more advanced apps that can do shopping lists, but I prefer Trolly because it's simple/simplistic)20:30
mr-woofit looks good, I'll have to dig out my ubuntu login20:38
mr-woofactually got another daft question, I take it (at the moment) there isn't any encryption on the phones?20:39
dobeywell the "disk" isn't encrypted, right20:40
mr-woofI wonder if that's something in the pipeline?20:40
dobeyyes it is20:40
mr-woofsounds like a plan :)20:41
dobeydepends on switch to snaps though i think20:41
mr-woofwhat channel do you use?20:41
dobeymy nexus 4 has rc-proposed on it, but i kind of have to have it that way :)20:42
mr-woofare you developing for the phone?20:43
dobeyyes20:43
mr-woofas someone who is completely new to this OS on a phone, is it worth me going to the rc channel?20:43
mr-woofor staying on stable for now?20:43
dobeyunless you're wanting to test new features and such, i'd suggest staying on stable20:44
mr-woofsuppose that makes sense :)20:45
mr-woofthe os looks good so far, I've heard a lot about it but not had the chance to have a play with it20:45
JanCit also depends if you want to use it as your main phone or just for experimenting20:46
mr-woofI'm probably going to use it just as the experimenting for now20:47
mr-woofI have a nexus 5 with Android on there for my main phone at the mo20:47
JanCstill probably best to start with stable, I guess20:49
mr-woofyeah I think I agree :@)20:49
