codebrainzhi. sometimes, very rarely, when I resume my computer from sleep and the login box comes up (lightdm?) the mouse cursor is stuck in the middle of the screen and I can't use my computer. If I try and restart the lightdm service everything locks up. Upon rebooting, the USB mouse doesn't work and my screens are swapped which one is primary, then after about 30 seconds everything goes back to normal. Anyone know what's going on?00:19
Wayward_VagabondGuys, my mystery power down was power outage00:44
Wayward_Vagabondthe battery must've just had time to recharge itself before I booted up00:45

bigman_I have a problem trying to reset the date to 2014...13:46
knomeit's 2016...13:47
bigman_I know, its because I usually use a windows partition to use a piece of software, which is cracked and to run the date needs to be in 2014, im running windows through virtualbox, but changing the date in ubuntu which is then passed to virtualbox, is not working...13:52
bigman_im in xubuntu, ive tried changing it in gui, no effect, command line with sudo date --set, not working either13:53
knomewe will not help with illegal activities.13:53
* pavlushka thinks its interesting13:53
bigman_changing the date isnt illegal13:53
pavlushkabigman_: are you a lawyer?13:54
bigman_no13:54
bigman_is that attempt at sarcasm?13:56
pavlushkabigman_: sorry, my bad.13:56
bigman_why would xubuntu not be letting me change the date?13:57
bigman_if i reboot and sudo date --set, it stays for about a minute and then gets updated to the real time...13:58
knomebigman_, i told you we will not help with illegal activites or help you get doing them.13:58
bigman_alright, ill find some help somewhere else14:00
bigman_is this place just for questions about operating system, because I have fcitx handeling my language input, and I set the hotkey for changing input methods but it just isnt working, I frequently change between four languages and i dont like having to click languages i want to use all the time...14:06
bigman_i would like it so that i just hit ctrl+space or something that will cycle through the languages, i set it through gui and through the .config/fcitx...14:07
pavlushkabigman_: I set my language switching combination to "left_alt+left_shift" and its perfectly working, I set it using gui keyboard options.14:13
pavlushkabigman_: দেথতে চান? :p14:14
bigman_in fcitx configuration? what script is that? some sub-script on hindi etc..?14:15
pavlushkabigman_: that is close, Its Bengali complex-script.14:16
bigman_in global config i have it set to enable the hotkey, but still not working...14:17
bigman_i can read a few sanskrit languages, the bengali script looks still to have common features14:20
pavlushkabigman_: you have to uncheck the "use system defaults" option first.14:20
bigman_where is that option?14:21
* pavlushka is on imguring a screenshot14:21
bigman_how do i view that screenshot?14:23
pavlushkabigman_: here http://imgur.com/a/YdXkJ14:26
bigman_ah i see, I unchecked use system defaults, but I never installed keyboards using the 'keyboard' application, in 'language support' i set the keyboard input method system to fcitx, and then in fcitx installed the keyboard, because for my chinese the sogou interface is only on fcitx...14:31

bigman_@pavlushka, guest89318: I solved the problem, it seems as though the fcitx gui does not list all the available features that exist within the config file in .config/fcitx/config. I uncommented the lines IMSwitchKey=True, and IMSwitchHotkey=... and then restarted fcitx and it now works,14:47
pavlushkabigman_:  congratulations!!14:48
bigman_thanks for all the help that you could give, i solved the date change problem too. Now i need to go to sleep, up early tommrrow14:48
pavlushkalol sure14:49
bigman_晚安 - wan-an - goodnight14:49
pavlushkabigman_: copy that, I'll paste it somewhere else :p14:50
atelloHello everyone20:46
qrobotHello20:56
qrobotI'm using xubuntu 16.04.1 and for some weird reason, I'm not being notified for updates20:57
qrobotHas anyone encountered this?20:57
qrobotI don't know if it's a xubuntu problem or a ubuntu problem..20:58
atellowhich updates? system? software?20:58
qrobotI guess neither. In 15.10 there used to be an icon in the panel saying there are new updates to install, and now I don't see it anymore, even after 2 weeks20:59
qrobotif I go to the Store, then I can see I need to update few things21:00
atelloI don't see that icon either, come to think of it21:00
atelloMight be that the software updater service isn't running on boot?21:00
atellolet me check, my startup settings are untouched21:01
qrobotonly after visiting the "Store" I get a window with a notification to update the computer. But still nothing in the taskbar panel21:01
atelloupdate notifier is enabled21:01
atelloyeah same21:01
qrobotand even if the computer is working for hours I don't get a notification. Is that your situation as well?21:02
atelloI haven't gotten a single notification in the panel since I installed last week. I know for a fact there have been updates (I run apt update/upgrade scripts every morning)21:02
atelloMight just be a bug with the applet21:02
qrobotHmmm21:03
qrobotit's a problem for people who are using xubuntu and aren't >= powerusers21:04
atellomeaning "fix it yourself" types?21:05
atelloI probably could, but I usually disable those notifications anyway, so it doesn't bother me.21:05
atelloI have a cron task to take care of that, so whatever :)21:06
qrobothehe21:06
qrobotDo you think it21:06
qrobotDo you think it's a xubuntu problem or a ubuntu one?21:06
atelloprobably xubuntu seeing as how that applet is an xfce4 applet. I don't recall if ubuntu itself uses the same software updater.21:07
atelloIt might be tied to that actually21:07
atellothere doesn't seem to be settings for notifications from the software updater21:08
atellointeresting, wonder if this has been reported already.21:09
atelloIf you're so inclined, go dig through the bug tracker21:09
qrobotWell, it seems no one is talking about this recent issue21:17
qrobotwell, someone advised to reinstall update-notifier and update-notifier-common. I hope it works21:21
atellolet us know if it works21:22
qrobotwell, I'll try it and report tomorrow if it helped. I will go to sleep in the meanwhile. Thanks :)21:22
atellosure thing, have a good one21:22
nolanddaHello. I have gotten myself into a sticky situation upgrading from 14.04 LTS to 16.04 LTS.22:31
nolanddaI upgraded a parallels VM and I think something is awry with the fancy LUKS/cryptsetup splash screen.22:33
nolanddaBecause the graphical display doesn't come up.22:33
nolanddaBut if I switch to one of the virtual terminals I can see that the ramdisk envitonment is running and will take a login.22:34
nolanddaBut I don't have any logins I am aware of for that env.22:35
nolanddaSo how do I provide LUKS/cryptsetup with the passphrase?22:35
nolanddaOr am I stuck extracting the disk image and shuffling it over to a machine where I can mount it?22:36
MrRobot7is Xubuntu 16.10 being developed/released along side the Ubuntu 16.10 releases?  I mean the Beta's and RC's etc23:18
MrRobot7i'm on 15.10, and would like to try out 16.10 on a non-prod desktop is why I ask23:19
krytarikMrRobot7: Yes - only Beta 2 and Final too though, otherwise Dailies.23:22
