[00:20] I have a work around. The apps are showing up in App finder (alt+F3) [00:23] and running [14:52] Thank You for creating such a powerful product. BETTER than pro-tools ! === themacproguy is now known as Zachary_DuBois === dzragon^ is now known as dzragon === sakura is now known as Guest4714 [17:14] hello [17:15] abuntu-studio no sound [17:45] anyone know how to fix the banshe music player on xenial xersus - studio? [17:45] It does not work it just sits there when you go to add music to it. [17:46] you have to kill the application. [17:46] although rythem box does work it will not shuffle songs. [17:46] Why would they release this with so many bugs? [17:47] I mean music playback is somethint that every computer does. [17:47] Is there actually anyon on here? [17:50] * antto is not here [17:51] i don't use mine for music since i still use my other machine for that, and that one runs winXP [17:52] the ubuntustudio machine i have has built-in speaker into the case o_O so i can hear stuff from it [17:52] i don't have any mp3s there tho, i've only tried stuff like youtube and soundcloud [17:53] but i think i didn't have sound at first and had to mess around in the settings [17:54] check your mixer settings and see if there are any volume meters, check if they move when they should [17:55] i can't tell if that's gonna be the same for you, since i am with ubuntustudio 16 but with lxde [18:00] it does have sound but applications do not work correctly [18:01] banshe and rythem box do not work. [18:01] banshe does not play any music only locks up. [18:01] rythem box plays but only one song at a time. [18:02] and it forgets previous session of adding the media. So you have to add all the media every time. [18:02] You know for a studio you thing these things would have all basic bugs removed from them before release. [18:03] Anyone here? [18:16] studio-user891: banshee and rythm box are not pre installed in ubuntu studio [18:17] Ok any idea why they would not work on studio? [18:17] studio-user891: could it be that you have jack running, and the output of banshee in pavu controll is not set to play with the jack sink? [18:18] studio-user891: then perhaps banshe/rythembox have bugs. [18:19] i have not ever started jack [18:19] studio-user891: i personaly use parole for previews. But i did install audacious for playlists and my discographic library. [18:20] studio-user891: have you tried to startany application that does use jack by default? [18:20] audacious? [18:20] studio-user891: i just mention this because i know audacious works [18:20] ok well in volume control [18:20] studio-user891: http://audacious-media-player.org/ [18:20] may jack applications start jack for you if you forgat to. [18:20] sudo apt install audacious [18:20] it is using built in audio control [18:21] it? [18:21] analog audio control [18:22] what is analog audio control? an appl;iaction? [18:22] studio-user891: yes, but if you have started a jack aware application it might have started jack for you... what happens if you reboot, and do nothing else but start banshee? [18:23] the applications are there both banshee and rythem box, but both still do not work. [18:23] installing audacious with the sudo now. [18:23] banshee has a mad amount of dependcies. [18:24] do you hear audio from firefox? like youtube or whatever? [18:24] i didn't feel like installing it on this machine. [18:25] rhythem box worked perfect here. [18:26] audacious is working now. [18:26] thanks sakrecoer [18:26] studio-user891: according to me, its the best player :) [18:27] very simple interface and playlist manager worked immediately [18:27] you can even add effects, i'm a big fan of playing stuff at 66%-75% pitchdown when i'm in cosy mode :D [18:27] lol [18:27] nice [18:27] AND, conky can read its status ;) [18:27] sakrecoer: parole has gotten a lot better too.... though I am not so sure about UI [18:28] OvenWerks: parole is a great previewer! [18:28] it has not too bad playlist managment now. [18:28] opens so many formats. i sometimes miss having more information about videofiles with it, like FPS and bitrate [18:28] right [18:28] OvenWerks: yes, for playlists it is not the best [18:29] sakrecoer: but good enough to always have music playing... either in order or scrambled. [18:29] OvenWerks: absolutely :) [18:29] effects are what jack is for. [18:30] i'm just very fond of the library management in audacious: does nothing fancypancy, just scanning to make it searchable from its GUI [18:30] yeah, but to pitch down 66% jack is overkill :D [18:30] its 2 clicks away in audacious, lol [18:30] well it is the only one that works [18:30] is jack is running all the time anyway... why not use it. [18:31] true :) [18:31] i could use audacious with jack :) [18:31] sorry only installed this the other day. [18:31] installed it dual boot with win10 [18:31] PA makes a great front end, but jack is a much better audio server. [18:32] studio-user891: don't be sorry :) but know that it can be many different parameters that hinders your rhythmbox or banshee from playing... [18:32] studio-user891: rhtyhmbox worked fine for me on ubuntustudio 16.04 [18:32] sakrecoer: I would be surprised if they do not default to PA for output. [18:32] yes i know that that is why i came here and sorry is just a term of reference. [18:33] sakrecoer: everything desktop should basically default to PA as output. [18:33] how did you install the rythmbox? [18:33] studio-user891: sudo apt install rhythmbox [18:34] well i used the software control panel [18:34] studio-user891: hm.. should be the same, i think.. [18:35] sakrecoer: I see what you mean by depends in banshee [18:35] OvenWerks: audacious defenitly defaults to pavu when installed with apt in ubuntu [18:36] i mean... PA [18:36] :) [18:36] well the sudo apt remove banshee seems to work fin. [18:36] fine [18:37] sakrecoer: everything should default to either alsa (default device which PA creates), PA directly or jack [18:37] the install informed me that the latest version of banshee was already installed. [18:39] sakrecoer: there are some applications out there that default to alsa hw0. That would be a bug. [18:39] (and mean that they have likely not been maintained in some time and suffer from bitrot) [18:42] So question [18:42] is there any other applications in the software manager that do not install or work correctly when installed from software manager? [18:43] I mean i used a really old version of mint on a netbook that worked just fine. Why the hell would a new version of Ubuntu not work? [18:44] studio-user891: thats a hard question. they are supposed to work. and if they don't, please file a bug. [18:44] why should i they did not take the time to even test the application? [18:45] studio-user891: things are tested, however, to asnwer to your question "why should i?" well, because freesoftware is made by people like you and me [18:50] studio-user891: The software installer has had a few problems since it replaced USC (ubuntu software center). I do not trust either one (personal prejudice). [18:50] I have never released any software that i have worked on that has not been tested. [18:50] I always install synaptic as one of my first things. [18:50] anyhow yes i am going to post a bug. [18:51] This is one of the problems with Ubuntu's release schedule. It gets released by a certain date come "hell or high water" [18:53] the software installer's main bugs have been with packages that have been downloaded from other surces. That is it has been unusual to have problems with installing any application the installer can find in ubuntu's preo. [19:00] provided a feedback on application page....seems like they do not even check that as there are a ton of people with the same problem with banshee. [19:01] although they are using bugzilla repository ... why the hell is this so split. they should receive updates from review page to cross reference for bugs and alerts. [19:02] Well the hell or high water schedule should be scrapped. Hell this is not windows. [19:03] When i use ubuntu or some distro built on it I expect the applications listed to work. [19:03] not just install a non functional front end. [19:04] anyhow have to get back to bugzilla [19:04] i both agree and disagree; deadlines are important to push things forward, but then again... they are actulay called "dead line" because they can be deadly :D [19:04] thanks for the insight on the changes. [19:04] Good to know banshee is broken [19:04] that helps with the understanding the distro and the development. [19:05] well broken from the software center install for sure. [19:05] It may not be with the sudo install. [19:05] since that seems to pull from repositories that work. [19:06] based on the audacious install. [19:06] not on banshee. [19:06] thats booted to the curb. [19:10] ovenwerks [19:11] That krita application is great though [19:12] Sad thing is that I think we had to remove it for the next release [19:12] Are you serious they are removing Krita? [19:12] sakrecoer: did krita get fixed for 16.10? [19:13] krita was keeping the install iso from building. [19:13] it works perfectly with my wacom tablet. [19:13] right off the install. [19:13] of the o/s [19:13] I am not sure that it is installable in 16.10 even after install. [19:14] 16.04 krita works really well. [19:14] OvenWerks: i don't know the status right now tbh, need to ask ross if he ahs time to look into it. [19:14] ok [19:14] Ok well please check [19:14] i really dont want to remove the o/s [19:15] ok well have to reboot system now. [19:15] thanks for all the feedback. [19:15] 16.04 will continue to work for you and will be supported for 3 years [19:15] One hopes that krita will be fixed by 18.04 [19:15] yeah that is a good poin t. [19:16] when is release stated/expected for 18.04? [19:16] the release numbers are year.month [19:16] 16.04 was released in the 4th month of 2016 [19:16] Ah ok. thx. [19:17] what was the sudo command you used for the rythmbox install? [19:18] was it the sudo apt install rythmbox? [19:18] That sounds right. [19:21] one thing i do like about this is the IRC uses the firefox [21:23] hey ovenwerks [21:24] i was the guy who had issue with banshee and rhythmbox [21:24] seems like rhthmbox only looked up list of music. it did not actually import the music. [21:25] so tried the import button and it seems to be working now after a crash and relaunch. [21:25] even with the shuffle on and the cross fade. [21:26] Thanks for the information earlier on this. [21:26] have a good one.
