=== userXYZ is now known as CherryPuffs [10:20] Hi there! I just upgraded to Ubuntu Studio 16.04 and I'm a bit disapointed by the output of the command "uname -a" which is still showing version 14.04 [10:20] Linux djzustudio 3.19.0-61-lowlatency #69~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT Thu Jun 9 10:15:00 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux [10:20] any thoughts? [11:32] hi [11:32] anyone here? [11:37] I'm running UbuntuStudio on a VirtualBox VM in Windows 10 on a MSI laptop and am trying to get sound working [11:37] help tells me to check if my sound card is supported by ALSA [11:38] would that be the physical Windows sound card or the virtual sound card from the VM? [11:38] (I am very new to Linux and VM) [11:53] I'm the guest user with the audio driver question, now on Windows because Linux is going to need to be rebooted a lot ;) [13:13] update: managed to get sound working, turns out the bugged thing is something called "xV", any suggestions? [14:49] cmb___: Linux needs to be rebooted a lot? [14:51] cmb___: getting good sound in a VM (windows on linux or linux on windows) generally will give problems. [14:51] yes most tutorials end with "restart the VM for it to magically work" (it never does) [14:51] I would suggest running Studio from a live ISO [14:52] (or just installing) [14:53] live ISO means burning ISO to a physical optical disc? [14:53] In all honesty I have never used windows [14:53] cmb___: run from a usb stick is fine. [14:53] hmm ok [14:54] maybe ubuntu studio on vm is a bit too much as a first dabble into linux :P [14:55] linux on a VM doesn't make sense at all from my point of view... But I am prejuduced [14:56] of course it does [14:56] audio generally doesn't. [14:56] my entire workflow is based on Windows but ubuntu studio had some features I like, like a video editing suite [14:57] video should be fine. [14:57] so I thought it'd be nice to have both at the same time [14:57] video has a much higher latency [14:58] Or to put it another way video can work with a higher acceptable latency. [15:04] guess I just overestimated what technology was capable of these days [15:06] video is just once every 1/25th of a second at it's lowest latency. Audio in profesional use may go lower than once every 1/1000 of a second [15:06] 5 to 10 ms audio is very common. [15:08] it is interesting that we are quite comfortable watching video with audio delayed quite a bit. [15:08] but playing with other tracks requires less than 10ms [15:26] not too interested in getting good audio performance... if it works I'll be happy [15:27] I use Reaper which does not work on Linux anyway [15:36] aha! found it, managed to find a way to change audio device [15:36] thanks for the input [15:55] hello [15:56] Someone can help me [15:57] ther is someone? [16:01] Tommy_: just state your question and wait [16:02] People do not just wait for activity on irc, they may come back from doing other things. [16:06] ok sorry [16:06] I would like to know how i can put my usb live key in persistant mode? [16:08] personally, I don't know :) (I have never tried) It used to be that the USB stick was created that way. [16:08] but the old usb stick maker hasn't worked for a while. [16:08] And is no longer included. [16:09] ok because when i restart my computer i have to set the language and change the keyboard to azerty each time [16:09] So it would depend on how the USB stick is made. I generally use dd and then gparted shows two partitions on the stick [16:10] you use DD instead ISO [16:10] So I am guessing that the second partition could be mounted. [16:11] What is iso? [16:11] dd is a copy utility that copies the iso byte by byte to the install medium [16:12] so DD is a soft [16:12] dd is a sw utility [16:13] It does not work for DVDs I use xfburn [16:13] ok so what you advise me? [16:13] to install ubuntu on my hard disk [16:14] Tommy_: I would ask someone who knows more :) [16:14] ok [16:14] there is a lot more activity on #ubuntu than here. [16:14] you know i'm french and it's difficult to use ubuntu in english [16:14] There is no real difference from Studio to plain ubuntu for this purpose. [16:15] there may be a french channel too. [16:15] !fr [16:15] Nous sommes desoles mais ce canal est en anglais uniquement. Si vous avez besoin d'aide ou voulez discuter en français, veuillez taper /join #ubuntu-fr ou /join #ubuntu-qc. Merci. [16:15] Does that help at all? [17:25] anybody else having a issue with connecting an email client to gmail servers [17:25] with either evolution or geary? [17:25] neither can reach server. [17:46] Hello anyone here? [18:13] hello [18:20] studio-user071: I don't have any issues with it and Thunderbird. But try asking in the main #ubuntu channel, as it's not really Studio-specific. === sakura is now known as Guest48643 [18:34] 800 ms latency in LMMS :D [18:35] JACK is not working though... [18:36] YYAAAYAAyayayAYaayyyayayaYayaYyaayayAYyaayayayaYa [18:37] and with it about half of the interesting programs [18:50] Question - can anyone here give information on settings for email client? [18:50] network utils are missing from this distribution for some reason [18:52] #evolution [18:52] anyone here know the command to install network utils in terminal. [18:53] such as traceroute ? [18:54] sudo apt-get install traceroute [18:55] tried that it dis not work. [18:55] did not work [18:55] apt-get update [18:56] well worked this time. [18:56] strange it did not work last time. [18:58] well seems that i can traceroute to imap.googlemail.com [18:58] yet it says network unreachable on the message in evolution [18:58] anyone using a email client in the ubuntustudio ? [18:59] oh wait. i installed from software manager. probably only half installed or some shit like that. [18:59] anyone know the sudo command for install of evolution ? [19:00] going to have to uninstall and reinstall from terminal. [19:00] seems like that is the only way to get apps to fully install on this distribution.
