[07:06] Morning all [08:06] Morning all === marcus is now known as Guest75798 [08:41] popey, that "Box" thing... spectacularly dumb question, possibly. But how do you get the network cable in? [08:43] awilkins: no clue, will tell you once it arrives :) [08:43] £60 isn't bad for the bundle though [08:44] Looking at the photo with it's top off there's room by the power cable to feed in a cable I think [08:45] The next-gen 1TB My Passport drive (this is based on the previous generation... probably a good way to clear old stock...) is £57 at my local computronic retailer. [08:46] So £60 for the drive in a niche case, power adapter, and microSD card is pretty good. [08:46] yeah, that's what got me interested [08:46] I have a spare pi I can chuck into it, and having played with nextcloud, I know that's something i want on it [08:47] Shame they're not going to sell the case driveless :-) [08:47] it looks 3d-printable [08:47] Yeah, it ought to be... [08:47] I mean, someone could make a derivative design [08:47] it's only two parts [08:47] with a couple of magnets and screw threads [08:47] epic day yesterday. got to visit force india f1 team HQ at silverstone [08:47] I'd be happy to measure mine so someone could design it [08:47] wow [08:47] bet that was fun [08:48] behind the scenes tour of workshops and simulator etc [08:48] childhood dream realised [08:48] my father in law would love that [08:48] he's well into F1 [08:48] how did you arrange that? [08:51] morning boys and girls. [09:04] Good morning all! Happy Friday, and happy Hug A Vegetarian Day! 😃 [09:05] and use the opportunity to slip some beef jerky in their pocket? :-P [09:22] popey: we are a customer of Univa who make the HPC scheduler software. they sponsor force india and have a sepcial partnership with them. so a kind of exclusive perk really [09:22] got hands on with a car and played with steering wheel etc [09:37] JamesTait: I love vegetarians they make the best meat, beef, lamb, chicken, turkey. I'd say pork and goat too but they are both omnivores [09:38] :D [09:40] JamesTait: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Mvs5lWx2uQ [09:45] foobarry: buttons galore? [09:46] even have a mario kart mushroom button [09:46] to overtake [09:47] steering wheel costs £40k alone. looked quite low tech in a way as it is designed but tactile and visual clarity , not brushed aluminim and tiny leds [09:57] it's amazing how much money they get to spend on making super fast toys [09:58] the simulator was like imax cinema [09:58] wasn't turned on though [10:01] popey: and just think what they do with that tech, they go and put it in lorries and then eventually it trickles down to cars [10:16] arse [10:16] missed my appointment to donate blood [10:17] leave it in a jar outside? [10:18] i'll just go to QMC and do a direct person to person donation [10:19] I used to love giving blood. Free biscuits and tea! [10:27] they have those tuc cheese biscuits [10:27] yuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmmmyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy [10:30] Laney: you know you can buy them they have them in stores and everything ;) [10:31] * zmoylan-pi wonders if the amount of blood donated in ireland dropped when they stopped offering a pint of guinness [10:31] maybe yes but the quality have have improved [10:32] i dunno, problably blood offered now has less iron... [10:32] easier to ship when you can pick it up with a magnet :-) === dominic_ is now known as dwatkins [11:00] The dark colour in Guinness isn't iron afaik [11:00] It's burned malt [11:00] marmite [11:00] All beer has traces of Marmite [11:43] first venture into sainsburys since the meal deal fiasco ends in the most disappointing lunch in ages [11:44] they changed supplier. afwul tasteless munge [12:45] nougat is bootlooping on my touchpad :( [12:55] gotta love a good nuggit [12:56] ah this could be the low battery problem [12:56] bootloops on low batt [12:56] nobody in the office has a real charger [12:56] :( [13:07] Bah, Steam on Linux listed 2 VR apps as working [13:08] Plugged in Vive. Steam asks me if I want to install VR. Get all excited. Doesn't work. [13:08] grr [13:33] IKEv1 VPN on Ubuntu - *arrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhh* [13:34] Ubuntu deprecates OpenSwan and moves to StrongSwan. Hooray. More security, better VPN client. ONLY... i) their NetworkManager GUI has been broken on Xenial for 5 months [13:34] ii) It doesn't support IKEv1 *on purpose* even though the daemon supports it, because "IKEv1 isn't very secure" or words to that effect. [13:35] I applaud the attention to detail in improving security [13:36] I lament the impossibility of connecting to my work VPN without writing a huge config file and disabling or fighting with NetworkManager. [13:36] (or option 3 - use ike-qtgui / ShrewSoft VPN Client which is at least easy to set up, even if it fights with NetworkManager if you let it) [18:51] Hi. [19:42] o/ [20:04] https://youtu.be/TsE-Dqok5mY <-- my dad looks far too much like Kenny Everett [20:07] /me is afraid to click on the link in case it's a cupid stunt... [20:12] I don't know what a cupid stunt is so I guess it's not one of those [20:13] don't worry it's all in the best possible taste... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O881zyKgBBw [20:19] :-) [20:21] and if not... we can round them all up, put them in a field, and bomb the... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGMWZJlA0QA [20:37] finally nougat running! [20:37] and...its pretty much same old android [20:37] then why upgrade? [20:38] i had an old tablet needing a refresh [20:38] speed is quite good [20:39] but no discernable features [20:46] foobarry: you can split screen multiple apps - in portrait mode one app above the other and in landscape mode side-by-side [20:47] foobarry: to do that you hold-down the square icon on the right of the home button [20:57] https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/4l51HGG1/Screenshot_20160923-215702.png [20:57] like that [22:08] well... this is why i have at least 2 devices on me at all times... :-) [22:09] so i could be accessing data on one device while working on a document on the other...
