davmor2Mirv: you're right it does need a pc there are instruction if you select offline maps I thought that had been updated though sorry :(10:43
Mirvdavmor2: ah, ok good that I won't spend more time trying to find it out :) yeah, I'm familiar in pc downloading since Openmoko times (before switching to vector graphics based apps)10:44
oSoMoNwillcooke, I commented on bug #163262011:16
ubot5bug 1632620 in webbrowser-app (Ubuntu) "No audio from webbrowser-app in 16.10 U8 or U7 session" [Undecided,Incomplete] https://launchpad.net/bugs/163262011:16
* willcooke checks11:17
willcookeoSoMoN, that better not be a Rick Astley video11:18
willcookeoSoMoN, how do I run that qml?  I tried from terminal in u8 and it's moaning about connection to mir failed11:21
oSoMoNit isn’t, but I was tempted :)11:21
oSoMoNwillcooke, ah, you probably need to trick mir by using the --desktop_file_hint parameter11:22
oSoMoNtry "qmlscene --desktop_file_hint=unity8 test.qml"11:22
davmor2willcooke: it's worse than that he's dead jim11:22
willcookeoSoMoN, works, and I have sound too11:23
oSoMoNwillcooke, good, so it’s just the browser11:23
oSoMoNmost likely an apparmor denial11:24
oSoMoNwillcooke, can you check apparmor denials in syslog when attempting to play sound in the browser?11:24
willcookeoSoMoN, got some, shall I paste in to the bug?11:27
* willcooke does anyway11:32
oSoMoNwillcooke, thanks11:35
willcookethanks for looking at it11:35
oSoMoNwillcooke, nothing relevant in those denials unfortunately11:37
oSoMoNwillcooke, can other apps play sound (e.g. music app, if it works at all on desktop)?11:38
willcookeoSoMoN, yeah11:38
oSoMoNom26er, you mentioned you didn’t have sound in the browser on yakkety, right? you might want to mark yourself affected by bug #163262011:40

Acou_Basseey guys, im planning to switch my phone back to ubuntu touch after a bit of a hiatus, does anyone have an IRC client recommendation (for mobile usage rather than convergence/desktop usage)? i had a quick look on uappexplorer and didnt see any that looked like theyd work for me but figured id ask in case ive missed anything :P21:58
mcphailAcou_Bass: I haven't found anything brilliant. I'm still SSH'ing into my home server running irssi on screen21:59
Acou_Bassfair enough, i do have weechat setup in a screen sesh already so ill probably use that as a stop-gap22:00
Acou_Bassi noticed theres a quassel client for ubuntu touch but doesnt look like it supports standalone, needs a server to hook up to22:00
Acou_Bassshame because it looks pretty slick :P22:00
mcphailAcou_Bass: I have a quassel server you can run on the phone, but the client doesn't seem to work properly22:01
Acou_Bassahh22:02
mcphailI keep meaning to make a Glowing Bear app to link to weechat22:02
mcphailSo many projects, so little time...22:03
Acou_Bassthere already is one in uapp but it needs SSL setup - i actually have a glowing-bear app stored somewhere on my PC that doesnt need the SSL22:03
Acou_Bassmy only thing with that is im running my weechat on a home connection and so dont wanna be opening too many router ports, so ideally need one that can either run through SSH or via my ZNC bouncer ;D22:04
mcphailAcou_Bass: It should be possible to run weechat "headless" on the phone and have glowing bear connect to it as a GUI22:04
Acou_Bassahhh true22:05
mcphailAcou_Bass: I haven't experimented with it yet, though22:05
Acou_Bassthats a pretty good idea actually, i like it22:05
Acou_Bassassuming it works of course ;D22:05
Acou_Bassno reason it shouldnt though eh22:05
mcphailIndeed :)22:05
mcphailI'm hoping the quassel client app gets updated. Would save me the hassle of looking at any other solutions22:06
Acou_Basshows ubuntu touch for if you need to run something, say, in a screen session? will it keep it alive if you disconnect freom screen?22:06
mcphailNo. You need to hack things a bit22:06
Acou_Bassahh22:06
mcphailYou can run a "server" app in the background if it doesn't spawn a GUI, but it is a terrible user experience. See my "syncthing" app on the store22:07
mcphailMy quasselcore server does the same thing22:08
Acou_Bassahh22:08
Acou_Bassyeah ive looked at the syncthing app22:08
Acou_Bassprobably gonna have to install it too, as i depend on syncthing a fair bit ;D22:08
mcphailIf you connect via the web frontend, the experience is OK. But it is very very hacky22:09
Acou_Basshow do you 'kill' the process? as my syncthing mobile use tends to be 'turn it on when i plug it in, leave it running for an hour and turn it off' xD22:09
mcphailI leave it on the store as a reminder we need proper background apps22:09
Acou_Bassthats with sailfishOS right now22:09
Acou_BassxD22:09
mcphailYou just flick it away from the app spread22:10
Acou_Bassooh and that kills the daemon?22:10
mcphailyep22:10
Acou_Bassthats better than id hoped, i was imagining having to open up terminal and killall it22:10
Acou_Bassim quite happy to use the webUI anyway, i tend to do that anyway because managing ti from a desktop is easier than a phone hehe22:11
mcphailI'll cook up a new package with the latest upstream binary, if you want22:11
Acou_Bassi suppose the other alternative would be how i did it on my n900 - download the binary and run it from a file in a terminal? ;D22:12
mcphailyou can, but it will be killed whenever the terminal app goes into background22:12
Acou_Bassahh right, so your app keeps it running as long as the app is there22:12
Acou_Bassthats handy22:12
Acou_Bassook so im gonna see if theres anything i needa backup on my phone, then might see about getting ubuntu back on it ;D woo22:14
Acou_Bassmain reason im doing it is because ive finally gotten round to fixing my USB port, so wanna test out this convergence thing22:14
mcphailI haven't dabbled in the converged stuff yet22:14
Acou_Bassits something im interested in from afar, its probably never actually going to be 'part of my daily life' but i think the concept is awesome22:16
Acou_Bassespecially with the miracast thing, thats a stroke of genius ;D22:16
