[00:25] Hello [00:26] hi [00:31] anyone get network browsing working in xubuntu 16.10 ? [00:31] gigolo doesn't work either [00:31] simply cannot resolve a lan backup [00:32] Got winbind and libnss-winbind, btw? [00:32] i'll ret [00:32] try [00:33] I mean, that really shouldn't be the issue, just helps resolve the hosts. [00:33] yes i do. still not working [00:33] that was what i believed too [00:33] Windows or Linux hosts? [00:34] its a WD backup device [00:34] probably biased towards windows and mac [00:34] it works on windows 10 [00:34] So gvfs-backends and samba crap. [00:35] doesn't work with that either [00:35] KingsQuest, exact model of this WD device? [00:36] You tried the different cifs tools to try and figure out where the issue is? (smbtree, smbclient) Or mounting manually? [00:37] WD MyBookWorld [00:37] I used to mount the cifs drives due to better throughput than gvfs gave me, but that's been a while and I wasn't using a network drive but was to a Win host. [00:37] i have not tried cifs tools and gigolo doesn't mount manually. is cifs necessary for network browsing ? [00:38] It's Windows shares. [00:40] obviously even people with windows OS have problems finding this device in their network oO [00:40] That's fun. [00:42] KingsQuest, can you access the device via webbrowser? [00:46] yes [00:50] KingsQuest, and you have used this network drive before? [00:50] in terms of any linux could connect to a share? [00:52] in a linux other than xubuntu it would access it on one occasion. it was lubuntu. 15.10 i think [00:52] it still wasn't perfect [00:52] but worked === mrkramps_ is now known as mrkramps [04:43] A L V A R O M O L I N A [04:43] A L V A R O M O L I N A [04:43] A L V A R O M O L I N A [04:43] A L V A R O M O L I N A [04:43] A L V A R O M O L I N A [04:43] A L V A R O M O L I N A [04:43] A L V A R O M O L I N A [04:43] A L V A R O M O L I N A [04:43] A L V A R O M O L I N A [04:43] A L V A R O M O L I N A [04:43] A L V A R O M O L I N A [04:43] A L V A R O M O L I N A [04:43] A L V A R O M O L I N A [04:43] A L V A R O M O L I N A [04:43] A L V A R O M O L I N A === jast is now known as Guest9929 [12:48] hello [12:48] Giving Xubuntu a try. I managed to successfully change language... except internet browser. Maybe I should remove this one and install international version, but the software manager just stays like this: http://pasteboard.co/fEqoL2rPP.png [12:49] how to deal with it? [12:53] I could try to run the software manager in terminal to see debug messages, but it is hard to know what process name it is [12:55] ok, that was "gnome-software". sudo gnome-software helped to run it, but first impressions weren't very good. [12:59] Audio is not working on my xubuntu, how can i fix it ? [13:04] Removing Firefox failed. Oh wait, there are updates to Firefox. Maybe this will help. [13:08] Always do "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade -y" after installing Xubuntu :p It dont install from net during install [13:09] I always wonder why it isn't done automatically? [13:09] I'm after update, but not upgrade [13:10] It's live session btw [13:10] Nvm, think it do have an option to install from net. Anyway it is good to do to be sure [13:21] downloaded firefox-49.0.1.tar.bz2. I can't "just install" it. I opened it to see what's inside and it seems like there are binaries inside instead of source code. Fine, maybe I can extract it and run it via ./firefox [13:22] Archive manager just disappears while extracting [13:30] TheWild: if you want newer on the live session - just do what MildlySeriousCat says for update and upgrade [13:30] why would you want to update packages and then not upgrade it? [13:31] ^ that happened because I exhausted virtual disk free space on live session. I'm restarting it and going to do update and upgrade. [13:32] I'm generally new to linux [13:33] TheWild: aah right, well update just updates package list - upgrade grabs new package and installs it over old package (generally) [13:47] Windows 7 on my parents notebook once got fundamental reinstallation (not recovery). It worked fine for few months until it started displaying message about being non-genuine. Maybe it's good time to go open-source instead of bugging Microsoft to fix the issue. [13:49] However, I'm afraid that some day they hit a problem with new OS and I won't be able to help them. [13:53] DOnt give them the root password or a sudo abilities and they cant destroy it :p [13:53] sure [14:43] TheWild: honestly i'd just crack it [14:43] if you can't get it to reauthenticate [14:44] you have a key for it obviously, so morally i don't see much of an objection [15:22] hey
