sorinello_Hello. Does Xubuntu comes with some tool to create bootable USB stick with .. Xubuntu ? :)06:39
ObrienDaveinstall unetbootin06:40
ObrienDaveuse that to create a bootable USB stick. add up to 10GB 'persistance' so you can save files to the stick06:43
sorinello_thanks ObrienDave, I'll try it soom. The UI looks pretty ugly, seems I am missing mtools package also06:46
sorinello_but the final goal is to have a working USB stick06:47
ObrienDaveit's not pretty, but it works06:47
flocculantdidn't work for me - used the ubuntu tool and/or gnome disks06:51

Fernando-Bassohttp://askubuntu.com/questions/768569/ubuntu-16-04-update-manager-error/784977 Should people proceed like described in the accepted answer before upgrading to a new release?09:38
=== jast is now known as Guest91374
akxwi-daveNormally the upgrade process will disable them.. but to be on the safe disabling the ppa's wont hurt anyting..09:59
Fernando-Bassoakxwi-dave: And when I disable the ppa's, then I have to 'remove' the keys manually as well, I assume?10:12
Fernando-BassoThe guy said "You obviously did a system upgrade without having removed the external repositories before." That was mean. I have never seen in any piece of docs that we should do that manually.10:13
akxwi-davevery true... it was mean.. I have never had to manually remove them either..  but looking at that article it appears to be due to a specific  ppa..  the upgrade process normally disable them and lets you add them back in later10:19
Fernando-Bassoakxwi-dave: Thanks.10:20
akxwi-dave :-)10:20
Fernando-BassoI found that question when I did the upgrad to 16.04 (I had a similar problem, with vbox, if I am not mistaken). Since this is a working machine, I am afraid of wasting time with something that could be easily avoided.10:22
Fernando-BassoAnyway, thanks once more.10:22
dadorePoint me in a direction please11:56
knome-->11:57
knomethere you go11:57
dadoreclean load of 16.10 - nvidia 9800 video card - tried 2 different proprietery drivers and the xorg nvidia driver - same results.  when locking the system and coming back to it, screen is black, sometimes with a mouse pointer.  can not ctrl-alt-f3, f4, etc.. black screen too.. have to reboot  .  what should I look at?11:58
dadore--->  going that way.. ty11:59
xubuntu56wHow can I view (with a HDMI cable) my desktop on an external monitor AND at the same time on the internal monitor of my laptop?13:47
SuperSeriousCatxubuntu56w, settings -> hardware -> display13:49
xubuntu56wYes, and then I see only the desktop on the external one13:50
somedude23Hey, can someone help me upgrade to xubuntu 16.10?15:35
somedude23"sudo do-release-upgrade" or "sudo do-release-upgrade -d" both result in No new releases found...15:35
flocculantsomedude23: you need to set upgrade to look for normal releases15:36
flocculantat least I assume you are trying to upgrade from 16.04 to 16.10 for some reason?15:36
somedude23yes, I'm on 16.0415:37
flocculanthttp://docs.xubuntu.org/1610/user/C/managing-applications.html#update-configuration15:38
flocculantsomedude23: you do know that 16.04 is supported for 3 years and 16.10 for 9 months I trust15:38
flocculantand that to undo the upgrade you'll have to reinstall 16.0415:39
somedude23flocculant: reason to upgrade: cryptsetup 1.6.6 => cryptsetup 1.7.215:39
flocculantand that you'll have to go 16.10 > 17.04 > 17.10 > 18.04 :)15:39
somedude23and this used to be a non-LTS installation that updated itself to LTS for some reason15:39
flocculantyep - ok - just making sure you'll not come back in 8 months upset and all that :p15:39
somedude23nah, this PC is scheduled for format anyway...15:40
flocculantanyway - set it to look for any new version and try again :)15:40
somedude23ah, found it. stupid obscure options :)15:42
flocculant:)15:43
somedude23bleh15:44
somedude23The upgrade has aborted. The upgrade needs a total of 108 M free space on disk '/boot'.15:44
somedude23should have created a 512MB /boot instead of 256M15:45
flocculantsomedude23: clear out old kernels - you only need 1 :)15:46
somedude23looks like I have 215:47
somedude23I'll clear out linux-image-4.4.0-38-generic15:47
somedude23alright, downloading update... might take a while.15:53
