yeh_0x0hHello.15:09
yeh_0x0hDoes Lubuntu contain propietary blobs/software by default?15:09
yeh_0x0hIs it as bad as Ubuntu when it comes down to propietary v.s. non-propietary sofware?15:09
yeh_0x0h*A neckbeard-ed bloke wonders.*15:10
LuMintyeh_0x0h: how is Ubuntu bad in this regard?15:11
LuMintyeh_0x0h: iirc they have a script for installing everything proprietary a regular user can need.15:11
LuMintwith GUI, too15:12
yeh_0x0h@LuMint well the fact that Ubuntu (allegedly) contains propietary software by default, and a version of the linux kernel with binary blobs.15:16
LuMintafaic, it doesn't because legal issues.15:18
LuMintmint used to, but now it doesn't, too15:18
LuMintbut don't get my word for it, i'm not so sure, there may be something I overlooked.15:19
yeh_0x0h@LuMint Sorry disconnected.15:20
LuMintyeh_0x0h: besides, how is it a bad practice? I'd love to have a distro with nvidia drivers by default, because nouveau is painful to use on desktop15:20
LuMintno hardware acceleration, CPU processes GUI rendering, occasional weird freezes15:21
LuMintyeh_0x0h: do I need to copy what I've written after that?15:21
LuMint<LuMint> afaic, it doesn't because legal issues.15:21
LuMint<LuMint> mint used to, but now it doesn't, too15:21
LuMint<LuMint> but don't get my word for it, i'm not so sure, there may be something I overlooked15:21
yeh_0x0hWell Nvidia drivers is a different matter. There's no alternative to get your GPU to work if it's NVIDIA.15:21
yeh_0x0hAnd thank you for copying what I missed.15:21
LuMintiirc they have a script for installing everything proprietary a regular user can need15:22
LuMintanyway, if you go for netinstall/minimal, you can be sure, I think.15:22
yeh_0x0hThe reason I asked about this issue with Lubuntn (and Ubuntu) is because on the other hand you see a distro based on Ubuntu with no propietary parts or binary blobs whatsoever.15:23
yeh_0x0h>Trisquel, a GNU/Linux distribution based on Ubuntu that's oriented toward small enterprises, domestic users and educational centers.15:23
swift110hey ALL15:23
LuMinthi15:23
yeh_0x0hHello swift.15:23
LuMintyeh_0x0h: idk really, perhaps swift110 can answer your question better.15:23
yeh_0x0hThank you anyways for the info you provided, mint.15:24
LuMintyw15:24
LuMint>Mint still includes proprietary software (like Flash) and codecs out-of-the-box, but this has become less of a differentiating feature. The latest versions of Ubuntu allow you to enable a single check box during installation and Ubuntu will automatically grab the proprietary software and codecs you need, without any additional work required15:27
LuMintas of now Mint doesn't include it either. They provide a GUI script to download it upon installation.15:27
yeh_0x0hInteresting indeed. I noticed this before when I installed Ubuntu a while back.15:27
swift110hey LuMint how ar eyou15:36
swift110hey yeh_0x0h15:36
LuMinti'm fine, thanks :) and you?15:37
yeh_0x0hNot so bad. What about you?15:37
swift110im good LuMint and yeh_0x0h15:38
yeh_0x0h@LuMint too bad Trisquel is probably going to take some time. Worst case scenario, till april of 2017 considering their past releases.15:39
yeh_0x0hIt's based on Linux-Libre kernel and is entirely open source.15:39
yeh_0x0hI'm just bringing this as an example to project on Lubuntu. Literally looked up "Lubuntu free meter" hoping there would be some statistics or meter about how open source the distro is lol.15:40
swift110hmm15:41
yeh_0x0hswift110, are you a bot? :P15:42
yeh_0x0hNot trying to be offesnsive if you were a human.15:43
swift110wow15:44
swift110I am definately a human15:44
yeh_0x0hSorry 'bout that. xD15:44
yeh_0x0hOn a scale from 1 to America. How free is Lunbuntu? In terms of containing pre-installed propietary software. Binary blobs in the disro/kernel.15:48
yeh_0x0hAsking again so new users would hopefully have something.15:49
swift110lol15:49
yeh_0x0hheh.15:49
yeh_0x0hLubuntu*15:49
yeh_0x0hThat's a candidate pick-up line on tinder.15:50
yeh_0x0hlicensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License.15:50
LuMintyeh_0x0h: why it it bad again?15:51
LuMintyeh_0x0h: yet another fork of a fork?15:51
yeh_0x0hWhat's bad? Lubuntu?15:51
yeh_0x0hI'm not saying it's bad.15:51
LuMintyeh_0x0h: no, Trisquel. Lubuntu isn't really a fork15:51
yeh_0x0hAh. Well Trisquel is a based of Ubuntu and Debian. But with Linux-Libre Kernel (no binary blobs) and stripped from Ubuntu's propietary software.15:52
LuMintyet another Frankendebian? I thought LMDE was bad enough not to repeat it.15:53
yeh_0x0hlol15:53
LuMint>2017 wouldn't think blacklisting packages would take em that long15:53
yeh_0x0hTalk about a Mint expert.15:55
yeh_0x0hHad to actually look up what LMDE is. Thought it was a WE.15:55
yeh_0x0hDE* desktop env15:55
LuMintWE?15:55
LuMintyeh_0x0h: i don't understand the hopes you have for Trisquel15:57
swift110lol15:57
yeh_0x0hxD15:57
yeh_0x0hI'm not a Trisquel Shill lol15:57
LuMinti'm not saying you are15:57
yeh_0x0hI just used it as an example to convey my concerns.15:57
swift110i see16:06
LuMintyeh_0x0h: what do you want from a linux distro?16:57
LuMintyeh_0x0h: actually, I think I rememberd something. IIRC RMS uses Trisquel "friends installed for me"16:58
yeh_0x0hThat's a valid question. Well a programming environment. And I like CLI.16:58
yeh_0x0hCLI is better for a power user than GUI.16:59
wxlthis might be non-support related? i.e. better for #lubuntu-offtopic?17:00
pabloeviaHi there.  I am a total beginner with Linux and Ubuntu in general.  I have installed Lubuntu in my old netbook Toshiba with Atom processor and 1GB of RAM.  Everything is running smoothly, but for some reason when I close the lid of the computer (so the system sleeps), afterwards the system freezes and I have to reboot in order to work again.  Could17:19
pabloevia you please provide me some assistance in this issue?17:19
joel135Maybe it's a problem with the network adapter.17:31
joel135Maybe the swap partition is too small.17:32
pabloeviaThanks for answering.  is there any way to figure out which could be the problem?17:39
joedoe47_Press alt+Ctrl+del should pop up system monitor see if swap is greater than or equal to the amount of ram you have. If swap is smaller, its a problem with swap, easy fix.18:08
joedoe47_You could also try putting it to sleep and seeing system logs by reading through all the stuff from the dmseg command. That will tell you if there is some hardware that it can't turn on or has drivers for it but its a lot of reading.18:09
LuMints/dmseg/dmesg18:14
yeh_0x0hI'm so stupid, missed the 5 messages I had here18:36
yeh_0x0h>.<18:36
yeh_0x0hdid you send anything LuMint?18:36
LuMintwhen?18:37
yeh_0x0hjust an hour ago or so18:47
yeh_0x0hI'm joining the Lubuntu realm anyways18:48
yeh_0x0hI was just asking lol18:48
yeh_0x0hI like to know background info about my shit lol18:48
yeh_0x0hAnyhow, what's a Mint shill doing here?18:48
yeh_0x0hMint, I found something18:51
yeh_0x0hhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vrms18:51
yeh_0x0hmight be sufficient as for the packages18:52
yeh_0x0hLubuntu is Debian based?18:52
yeh_0x0hCuz VRMS works on Debian-based distros18:52
swift110hmm19:40
LuMintyeh_0x0h: you sound like a 4chan runaway :)19:43
yeh_0x0hyep : ( that'll be me19:44
LuMintyeh_0x0h: you should put more work in your reading comprehension skills if you see any mint shills here.19:44
LuMintno offence19:45
yeh_0x0hwell your says Mint pretty clearly lol19:45
yeh_0x0hyour nick*19:46
LuMintit doesn't19:46
LuMintit's LuMint19:46
yeh_0x0hYou're using Camal-casing naming convention! this nick is split into 2:19:46
yeh_0x0hLu + Mint19:46
yeh_0x0hIdk what Lu is, but Mint suggested Mint the distro19:47
yeh_0x0hat least to me19:47
yeh_0x0hyou might have a different semantical meaning to this syntactic token :P19:47
yeh_0x0h*drops the mic* (shamelessly)19:48
LuMintactually, it does refer to Mint, Lu standing for LXDE19:48
yeh_0x0hoooh19:48
yeh_0x0hsee19:49

ubottuyeh_0x0h: The main Ubuntu channels require that you speak in calm, polite English. For other languages, please visit https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IRC/ChannelList19:53
yeh_0x0hSorry 'bout that. Got carried away.19:54
yeh_0x0hMy apologies.19:54
yeh_0x0hHappy now, bot?19:55
krytarikWell, it's more of a common term anyway.19:58
yeh_0x0hThank you for your help, LuMint.19:58
yeh_0x0hhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vrms19:58
yeh_0x0hIn case somebody asks about the existence of propietary packages in Ubuntu/its derivates.19:58
yeh_0x0hHave a good one.19:59
vijuHi, I do not hear any sound coming out of speakers / headphones20:04
vijuWhat could be issue? It was fine yesterday.20:04

LuMintyeh_0x0h: yeah, that's a nice package.20:05

vijuCould someone tell what's master and capture in alsamixer? And why the sound stopped coming all of sudden?20:07
vijuIt works now20:07
wxlviju: sometimes you have multiple devices. master controls them all. capture is input.20:09
