[08:01] Morning all [08:08] gooood morning! [08:19] Morning all [08:21] morning [08:22] hey popey [08:31] morning boys and girls. === brobosti1on is now known as brobostigon [09:04] mornin === brmbrmca1 is now known as brmbrmcar [10:11] evening [10:25] * zmoylan-pi hugs mug of tea and contemplates turning on the ligths as it's so gloomy... [11:42] it's cold, too [11:42] * diddledan hugs zmoylan-pi's mug of tea, too [11:45] * zmoylan-pi pushes the pack of generic penguins towards diddledan to go with mug of tea [11:45] puffins ftw [11:46] aldi seal bars... [11:46] \o/ [11:46] * davmor2 watches the pack of penguins knock diddledan's tea off the table cause penguins are evil [11:46] * zmoylan-pi wishes there were puffins around the east cost of ireland... one of the few sea birds i haven't seen [12:20] afternoon all [12:20] wowzer, i listed 3 smartphones for sale yesterday and the first one is out of my hands already :D [12:20] \o/ [12:21] daftykins eats tonight \o/ [12:22] haha [12:22] only £35 for a Samsung Galaxy S3 [12:22] noodles it is... [12:23] aww yis [12:23] i'm on a diet since the US trip so no more curry ;) [12:23] noodles for using your noodle [12:23] no spicebag for daftykins then... [12:24] was that that funny Irish chipper thing? [12:25] yeah [12:25] seems one of our d&d gaming group had one recently [12:26] is now a fan [12:26] Hey folks, OpenVPN driving me a little nuts. I have a virtual machine running Ubuntu Server, OpenVPN and a web server. Shutting down the VPN allows me access to the webserver, as soon as I fire up OpenVPN - no access to the webserver. Any ideas? [12:26] :> [12:26] Azelphur: pastebin of "netstat -tuln" before and after? [12:29] daftykins: https://dpaste.de/wZao [12:29] the web bit is listening on 58846 for reference [12:30] thank tux for that 'raw' button XD [12:30] hehe [12:30] so is that you trying to run it on UDP 50302? [12:30] it being OpenVPN [12:31] daftykins: I guess, the OpenVPN part works fine, it connects and I can route traffic through the VPN [12:32] from what point are you trying to hit the site? your desktop on the same home network? [12:32] correct [12:32] Azelphur: are you routing ALL traffic through the VPN? if so then the web server will only be accessible through the VPN [12:32] diddledan: yup, that's the problem. [12:32] mmm gotta change your OpenVPN config [12:33] if your chosen web server were listening on all interfaces you'd hit it on the VPN host IP :D possibly 10.8.0.1 on a default config [12:33] question is what to :) [12:37] you could try messing with iptables... [12:38] yea, I think that's what I'm gonna have to do, sounds painful >.< [12:38] basically routing ALL traffic through the VPN means that replies on your public IP to the web server are trying to go through the VPN which has a different public IP [12:41] random aside: I love the theme music for Westworld [12:41] indeed, seems like what I want is traffic splitting, or split tunnelling [12:41] the whole intro is epic [12:41] err not sure if my last messages got through there before Wilhelm killed me [12:41] aww, poor daftykin1 [12:41] Azelphur: did you see the digitalocean guide? that has some handy tips [12:41] ikr :( [12:41] daftykin1: I did not, link? [12:41] diddledan: i lost mein Wilhelm [12:42] daftykins last message pre split was 'if your chosen web server...' [12:42] zmoylan-pi: ty sir [12:42] 13:35 < daftykins> it has a couple of routing changes that i'd bet will come in handy, i didn't ask which release you've got on there either [12:43] oh they've done a new one for xenial - https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-set-up-an-openvpn-server-on-ubuntu-16-04 [12:43] i've always followed the trusty one, personally [12:43] daftykin1: yea, I don't need to set up a server, I already have one rented :) [12:44] Azelphur: no look at the config, the guide is about the OS - not their service [12:44] focus, people [12:44] I see [12:45] check out step 7 === Chrisfu- is now known as Chrisfu === daftykin1 is now known as daftykins [12:48] if those edits don't work, whatever your VPS is using must have modified packages [12:50] physical trusty server i have at a clients failed to come back after rebooting it for a new kernel again, it only ever happens if i'm not there... if i am on-site to reboot it, it's always fine [12:52] dancing frog problem http://www.retrologic.com/jargon/D/dancing-frog.html 'hello my baby, hello my honey, hello my rag time gal...' ♫ [12:53] daftykins: https://dpaste.de/S9Sw woo, I'm batman === Dave_ is now known as Dave [12:53] VPN provider told me that was impossible [12:55] looks like patrick stewarts twitter has been hacked [12:56] "VPN provider" o0 [12:56] i thought you were hosting it :P [12:56] lol [12:56] so it's also debian and you asked here [12:56] daftykins: nope, not hosting [12:57] daftykins: also nope, not debian, Deluged package for Ubuntu creates the user debian-deluged and runs it under that. [12:57] oh i thought you were saying you'd fixed it but i don't follow the relevance of the paste [12:58] daftykins: I have fixed it, I can now select which traffic goes through the VPN and which doesn't [12:58] yeah my guide link had relevant params to that methinks [12:59] I see :) [12:59] per user or per process could be fun though [12:59] well I'm happy anyway, been stabbing at this one for days [12:59] seriously? [12:59] ouch :P [12:59] yea [12:59] I can do per-user, per process, whatever really now [12:59] just iptables mark it [13:00] here's a funny one i had a bit ago, my OpenVPN setup on a DO VPS died, couldn't understand why it wasn't working - turned out i'd accidentally booted a 32-bit kernel on a 64-bit host a while back, so it was unable to load the kernel modules to have the routing rules in \o/ [13:00] haha [13:00] they've since realised they can't keep up with kernel updates though and have just implemented a GRUB loader to load the default you have installed on the virtual disk [15:14] Hi, I've installed ubuntu, changed to XFCE, but the nm-applet is missing from the indicator panel. nm-applet appears to be loaded, and a notification pops up saying there are wifi networks to connect to, but it's not in the indicator area. Any ideas? [15:21] Nada? Google is no help :( === webpigeon_ is now known as webpigeon [16:27] they always wait so long [16:28] so so long [17:15] diddledan: played with yonder Nexus 5x HDR - http://imgur.com/a/KhmYP [17:17] :-) [18:18] https://twitter.com/swiftonsecurity/status/774312067297718272 [20:17] so who had their Asda online shopping cancelled today? :O [20:21] were they having problems? [20:22] apparently a glitch cancelled 15% of weekend orders! [20:23] oops [20:26] https://open.spotify.com/track/1pHVfiNHMMZYquR35fTZdM :) [20:28] for my fiance, https://open.spotify.com/track/5js1JJOAkR5KwlifBpvHMN [20:31] * daftykins doesn't use streaming services [20:32] * brobostigon is reluactant, but does. [20:36] reason i mention is last time i clicked a link i don't think it even told me what the track was [20:37] for a very good reason that song, :'( [20:37] oh it does, good ol' Queen [20:37] oh, how's she doing? [20:37] days of our lives, queen [20:39] * brobostigon will no longer be a father, <= 4 weeks ago. [20:39] :( sorry to hear [20:40] i am sorry too, :'( [20:41] i have played loads of piano and drums and written music. [20:42] ah neat [20:42] hope it helps! [20:42] we will see. [20:44] it would help if i could write in piano notation, and not just precussion notation. [20:45] percussion* [20:49] alien world to me, that one [20:50] its still alien to me, and i have played the drums for ten years plus. [21:09] how could i emulate a synthasiser on a normal computer? [21:16] hmm [21:17] http://linuxsynths.com/ o0 [21:18] https://apps.ubuntu.com/cat/applications/natty/zynaddsubfx/ haha natty [21:18] that was ~11.04? [21:21] was what i just found too. :) [21:22] is it still current? i almost ran !info against it [21:23] no idea. [21:25] something that i could map synth keys to my keyboard keys would be good. [21:25] hello [21:29] hi [21:29] how's it going, rainbowwarrior? [21:32] hi daffykins ok ty and you ? [21:32] oops typo [21:33] yep all good ta :) relaxing evening here === Myrtti_ is now known as Myrtti [21:40] wait. what? [21:40] I don't need rEFInd anymore to boot Ubuntu as a solo OS on a Mac? [21:43] m0nkey_: haven't needed it for years [21:43] m0nkey_: just bless the refi loader [21:43] refi* [21:43] I didn't even bless the loader [21:43] efi* damn autocorrect [21:43] crikey. [21:44] yeah I think the installer can do the bless itself now, too [21:44] m0nkey_: it's still a mac though, can't help with that ;D [21:44] Rather have Ubuntu than macos on it [21:44] oh agreed, but rather any hardware than that, i mean ;) [21:44] talk of the devil, they're releasing more on Thursday [21:44] it's a laptop from 2012, i'm not replacing it until it dies [21:45] m0nkey_: mine is a late 2012 mbp [21:45] * diddledan finds the model number [21:45] mine is a 2012 i5 air [21:45] oh, early 2013 [21:45] MacBookPro10,2 [21:46] diddledan: have you reclaimed your little soldier yet? [21:46] yup [21:46] I'm on it now [21:46] * daftykins instantly regrets that phrasing [21:46] lol [21:46] don't you have a vastly superior spec desktop? [21:46] yes [21:46] :-p [22:02] i don't like apple [22:03] osx nah see that's a daft claim [22:05] the only real answer is they all suck, but we pick the ones we either get paid to deal with, or the ones we mind picking up after the least [22:10] even if i am paid to deal with it i have no respect or admiration for windows [22:11] it's just a constant battle of wills with a big pile of poo... [22:12] i've had mac, i've given up on mac... linux is all that remains [22:13] zmoylan-pi: we should make a card game about IT support situations [22:13] i think i've seen some... [22:13] i could put "compiling a compatible wifi driver module" on one, then you respond with a Windows quip [22:13] and we keep going 'til we're out of ideas :> [22:14] a drive 200miles to disover muppet didn't plug in pc, lose 3 turns... [22:15] XD [22:15] discover customers new pc is just a monitor, transfer them to sales, get cut of commission 20 shekels [22:17] discover that customer can't connect to wifi as they have no wifi and have been using neighbours for 5 years till they changed password. lose 1 turn explaining to them that they have to sign up with an isp and wait for installation [22:18] it would really be just a list of some of my weirder problems... :-) [22:18] there really is a game in this [22:21] so i'd see it as a card game with players been developers/admins/managers each with abilities taking turns... [22:21] a manager would hold all the cards but could only play 1 due to short attention span... :-) [22:22] :D [22:23] although he or she could also defuse an employee with management phrases [22:23] management would also have less turns as they were tied up in meetings all the time... [22:24] so it would have goals for money, life, career. developers obviously score badly when trying to get a life or money... [22:25] and every time a chance card turns up a new language/platform they'd lose money time having to invest time/money investigating it... :-) [22:25] you should put romance in, then you can do the Star Trek thing of love always losing out to career [22:26] "well i love you, but i just got promoted to this far off station in the ass-end of nowhere" [22:26] *credits roll* [22:27] get a job were you can telecommute, win the game... :-) goals for developers [22:27] ooh that sounds like what we should call it [22:27] get a job were you are allowed use a cattle prod on users goals for admins [22:28] get a job were you can get drunk as a skunk at lunch, goals for managers [22:30] * zmoylan-pi will have a sniff around gaelcon this weekend and have a look at the card games and see if anything seems like a platform for this... [22:32] \o/ [22:32] fame is within reach [22:33] a card reading. a nutter named daftykins on irc helps you fix managers desktop in record time, get a backhander bonus 10 shekels and draw another 2 cards [22:48] hmm [22:48] networkmanager doesn't always show the correct wifi status after sleep [22:48] my desktop has an issue with network manager - it loses it's ip4 address shortly after boot up but ip6 stays active [22:49] it does it in both 16.04 and 16.10 [22:49] network for me comes up [22:49] just shows the network is offline [23:03] is it not trying to get a lease again? [23:03] seems not
