dbrassI would have a general question about the kernel supports in ubuntu touch for the LG Nexus 5. From my understanding, UT is using android's kernel with an abstraction layer. With kernel 4.9 addind mainline support for the LG Nexis 5, would it be possible to run UT on the mainline kernel without the abstraction layer? Would it be possible to run a kernel without patches from the SOC manufacturer?03:15

sakrecoerworked for both *slots once for about 5 minutes.05:53
sakrecoerwebsearch gives very poor info about dual sim usecase.05:54
sakrecoermy IMEI is all good...05:54
sakrecoerboth of them...05:54
sakrecoeri haven't done any changes to the phone, except OTA upgrades..05:54
sakrecoerif i swap the sims they register to their respective networks, but only slot one does..05:55
sakrecoerany idea how i could trouble shoot this?05:55
sakrecoeri get the sensation that the second slot has no access to antena, because it finds 0 providers...05:56
sakrecoereh...classic case of 'ask the question and it automagically' solves... although, it says i'm on roaming while i am clearly registered to the correct network...06:05

simon_for 5 minutes happening 3 times today07:01
anpoksimon_: we have seen that happen sometimes - but we have not enough clues to figure out how to detect that.. and then in the kernel and maybe restart the touchscreens..07:07

seth_Is there a simple way to get xenial on turbo? I've tried the to use the devel-proposed channel, but I don't see the device listed17:05
seth_2016/10/28 13:08:59 Device is |turbo| Device turbo not found on server https://system-image.ubuntu.com channel ubuntu-touch/devel-proposed/meizu.en17:09
seth_ubuntu-device-flash query --device=turbo --list-channels does not list a devel/16.04 channel17:10
dobeydevel-proposed is yakkety (or maybe zesty now) anyway, not xenial17:14
dobeyno, there's currently no way to install 16.04 on a phone17:14
seth_Thanks dobey. Let me show you what I was looking at that made me think that I could.17:17
seth_Development (proposed channels)  Automatically built images from the latest devel series (currently ubuntu/xenial). This is the channel is to be used by developers for system development purposes only, absolutely no guarantee of stability.  ubuntu-touch/devel-proposed/ubuntu   Devel channel with the community custom tarball17:18
seth_from this link: https://developer.ubuntu.com/en/phone/devices/image-channels/17:18
dobeyyes, someone hasn't updated that in a long time17:19
davmor2seth_: old info at the time of writing it was correct17:19
davmor2seth_: note the currently it moved on to yakkety and now onto zesty17:20
dobeyeven if you could install xenial on your phone, you wouldn't want to right now.17:20
seth_Are yakkety and zesty installable even if they're not quite usable?17:22
dobeydevel-proposed is "installable" sure17:22
dobeybut afaik doesn't boot17:22
dobeyfor turbo you need the -pd channel i think17:23
dobeymeizu-pd.en17:23
seth_interesting17:24
seth_thanks.17:24
dobeybut like i said, i don't think it even boots, and if it does somehow manage to boot, there's very little you could actually do with it at the moment17:24
dobeythere's no benefit to installing that instead of the stable or rc-proposed channel17:25
seth_I get this when I try: ubuntu-device-flash touch --device=turbo --channel=ubuntu-touch/devel-proposed/meizu-pd.en WARNING You are about to flash your phone with a development image - continue at your own risk! There is absolutely no guarantee that even the most basic phone functions will work. 2016/10/28 13:24:22 Device is |turbo| Channel ubuntu-touch/devel-proposed/meizu-pd.en not found on server https://system-image.ubuntu.com17:25
seth_well, there are some specific bug fixes that are patched in bluez that I've been trying to resolve17:25
dobeyoh the -pd channels don't have devel-proposed17:25
seth_I updated the latest firmware from meizu and built them into the system.img17:26
dobeywhat specific bug fixes? afaik anything that would affect our phones should have also gone into the stable or rc-proposed channels17:26
seth_and when that didn't work, I thought, let me try a later version just as mindless troubleshooting17:26
seth_https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/+bug/1539158 #2917:28
ubot5`Ubuntu bug 1539158 in bluez (Ubuntu) "Unable to pair with in-car hands-free system after OTA-9 update" [High,Confirmed]17:28
seth_it's a pair problem17:28
seth_there17:28
seth_but17:28
dobeyiirc, that update was before turbo was released, and when we switched to bluez517:29
seth_Several people are reporting similar problems, however the main bug that I'll copy in a moment is when bluetooth switches to headset for a call, everything is garbled17:29
seth_the same headsets work fine with the MX417:30
seth_it seems to be just a turbo thing, that's why I built a new system.img initially17:30
dobeywith the same version of ubuntu?17:30
davmor2seth_: known issue on mx517:30
dobeywell the turbo is different hardware17:31
seth_yeah, I've seen it discussed a lot that's why I wanted to help17:31
seth_I tried "new" bcm.bin files from meizu17:32
seth_so I'm scratching my head thinking about what to try next17:32
dobeyok, so you don't know that a newer bluez actually has fixes for the bugs17:33
seth_interestingly enough it seems that the new modem.bin provides different behavior as well17:33
seth_correct, I don't know. I just want to try and test and report back17:34
seth_the old modem.bin didn't appear to be for turbo, it has the signature of being for the mx4.17:35
seth_I've been trying to find out what's been going on with a modem issue and the bluetooth issue so there's been some overlap17:36
seth_the old modem.bin gives me:  Revision = S333_M86_20151002_CHNOPEN_MZ024 versus Revision = S333_M86_20160406_CHNOPEN_MZ03617:40
seth_from what I've seen MZ024 is MX4 and MZ036 is Pro 5. Sorry to dump all this. I'm about to get on a flight and just wanted to jot a few things down and ask about running 16.04. I appreciate the feedback17:41
seth_so I started thinking that the drivers for the bluetooth might be off too, but they didn't fix the problem17:42

pasko_Hello. I'm thinking about buying an Ubuntu Tablet. Is it possible to get root access in these devices? Thanx18:26
dobeyyou can do whatever you want with it, yes18:31
mcphailpasko_: afaik, you have root on all Ubuntu devices18:32
dobeybut why do you need root?18:32
k1l_iirc most users have a wrong conception of root from the iOS or Android usage of the term.18:32
pasko_I've spent the afternnon reading about it and most of them say that root partition is mounted read-only.18:32
dobeyyes it is18:32
dobeyand you shouldn't change it to not be readonly, really18:33
k1l_pasko_: you can make that writeable if you want. but the system is similar to android update system. which works best if you dont change the system stuff.18:33
pasko_Because in this case I would stop atuomatic updates, right?18:33
dobeythe root partition is not the full size of the storage chip. there isn't a lot of room to do anything in the root fs18:34
k1l_it doesnt use apt but uses click packages. btw, is there a plan if and when it will change to snaps?18:34
k1l_pasko_: you still get updates, but its not sure if the update will work if the base system is changed too much. that is the point why one should leave it ro.18:35
dobeyif you want to install traditional apps, you can do it via a libertine container18:35
pasko_ok. Thank you. Now I get it.18:35
pasko_Also, I would like to use openvpn client, firefox (which I know is installed) and a regular terminal app with ssh client. Are openvpn and terminal available?18:36
dobeyyes18:36
dobeyyou can set up an openvpn in the network settings18:37
pasko_Cool.18:37
pasko_I think I'll order one. Extrange thing is that the Ubuntu version is €10 more expensive than the regular Android version....18:40
pasko_Anybody knows why?18:40
dobeybq sets the prices, not ubuntu. guess you'd have to ask them18:44
pasko_ok, thanks18:54
